Cheapest place to order unlock code for Samsung SGH-i757m? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Can't find much info on unlocking this phone?
Anyone have any idea what's the cheapest place to order unlock code for the Samsing SGH-i757m?
This is the Bell S2 HD LTE variant
Cheapest I found is $24.99 on Ebay? How much do other people pay?
thanks

did you try unlocking it yourslef by generating the unlock code ? or if that fails, patching the nv_data.bin ?
if you are unaware of this methods, pm me or search a bit and u'll find out how to work it out.

If there is a free method, I am kind of curious!

Hi, sorry to revive this thread from the grave, but I feel that this would be worth it, what I am about to share...
At the time of writing this, it is about 8:40AM & I'm on a lack of sleep, I had recently acquired a SGH-i757M ( Bell branded ) I had been doing google searching for multiple hours, everything I've come across for trying to SIM UNLOCK this device either didn't work, or was not " Free " as they had claimed... I know sim unlocks can be done, it's just a matter of how to go abouts it. anyways, so I was starting to give up hope that I wouldn't find a solution, so I ended up resorting to the debug/test mode & started playing with things. ( secret code is.... *#*#197328640#*#* – Enable test mode for service ) but before that, I had ICS installed & it was just giving me a hard time ( Lots & lots of program stops, I couldn't even open the Storage in settings menu with out it stopping. ) a little ways later, I managed to get a copy of gingerbread installed ( 2.3.6 I think ) & so on gingerbread, this is where I somehow " glitched " the sim lock. I kept playing with the simulation items, causing it to crash & network locks " I had gotten a interesting reaction after forcing a crash ( I saw in the notifications that my " locked " sim could not connect ). So a little time goes by still tinkering with it, I believe what happened, the device froze, powered off ( kernel panic maybe? ) then I pressed the power button, then I get in tiny letters " MDM Error " or something like that... shut it back off, then it booted normal, then I come to my home screen & pull down the notification menu & behold, I am connected to Rogers wireless ( on the Bell i757m ) I got spammed with a few texts due to my phone being down for a few days, I can send them out, I'm positive I can make calls. I just don't know if this is permanent or what, but it's a start! I am also being 99.99% honest here * I'm a really cheap person, I really did NOT want to pay 40$ for something I could've probably figured out myself. * If you guys want a video of said device working, let me know.
Feel free to leave me your thoughts... I was pretty shocked at myself, thats why I'm even mentioning this to you guys.
*** note to admins, THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL, I just gave good detail in my story/adventure, so please don't edit my text. ***

[Q/discuss] Securing Download Mode Boot

I'm on of those who curious if my Ace got stolen/missing and wanna prevent anyone from flashing via ODIN/download mode. CWM would be a different story for me.
Is there anyway to secure it with an authentication module/additional pre-boot img? 10 key PIN would be wonderful enough to have. I guess it has something to do with creating our own bootloader?

Jekle ace that's a really cool idea,,, but india the operators never take actions in case of a stolen phone, they only take action if you are VIP or something, there are hell lot of procedures like filing police complaint filling up loads of forms etc...
i think third party apps like "where's my Droid", or any other good Antivirus cum security system app could come handy in these situations

Hi, thanks for all the replies. I'll quote this one.
Really unusable? I didn't know that You mean black listing the IMEI?
Is it unusable after being flashed via Odin and then being inserted a new SIM from another operator? Sorry for a lot of questions.

Just see how hard out is to change/repair the imei in these forums. Imei blocking is the best way to permanently block the phone from working within the country.
In the UK IPhones which have been reported lost or stolen often get sipped overseas, particularly to the USA where they will usually
work.

[Q] Currently unlockable bootloaders

For us with currently unlockable bootloaders (branded phones), will removing the sim-lock give us the option to unlock the bootloader?
No
That was a definitive answer. Strange, cause I know people with unlockable bootloaders in their Arcs and Rays have managed to unlock them.

Slightly worried about getting the phone from Rogers here. Hopefully the Sony store will have a working unit so I can enter the command into the dialer to see if I can easily unlock it or not.

Currently there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, it will probably come at some point, but not now .
There is no drawback to unlocking your bootloader though, as they will still probably accept your device for warranty, unless you fry your phone with overclocking and such.
But yea, branded phones cant be unlocked at this moment, or well, they haven't figured it out yet. So if you are branded you can't even unlock your bootloader...yet . Give it time, everything will be figured out in time .

I am under the impression that selling it in the Canadian Sony store means it will not be branded for any carrier, since they'll be offering the phone unlocked. Probably even if they offer it on contract with a carrier like Rogers, it would still be unlocked, but just subsidized with your contract plan.
edit: They did say that the phone is exclusively with the Sony Store in Canada, so you can't get it straight from Rogers anyways, so no worries!
If there is brand in rogers, I am pretty sure they will lock the bootloader just like they did in xperia arc

Bought mine from the sony store locked to rogers. I can confirm that the bootloader are in fact locked. Bought mine at launch early tuesday morning.(12th)
They currently only sell XpS's locked to rogers. They unfortunately don't sell the unbranded version(/unlocked). They were also surprised by this fact apparently.
BTW the rogers bloatware that came with the device is annoying as hell. If you're going to buy on frim the Sony store in canada. Debranding would be the first thing I would suggest to do. Seeing as rooting or custom roming is out of the question.

Have to admit that i'm a little disappointed i got my phone as soon as it was released on my neywork.
That was before the information came to light, that branded fw's have their bootloaders locked.
Had i known that BEFORE i took the plunge, i would have upgraded via a third party mobile phone shop.
I am even more disappointed to see custom roms and tweaks coming out, only to find myself unable to go anywhere near them. Grrrr!
I have de-branded my Xps but i still have the bloat-crap on it. Which is now filling the ten whole spaces in my main menu.
I have been checking on here everyday hoping for a root solution and also on the omnius and setool sites but still i am without a solution :-( and my biggest concern of all is...
As most the devs and rom chefs have unlocked bootloaders, that means hardly anyone (if anyone) will be working on a solution. Double :-(

I hear you bro
Don't worry, it will come
I have faith in this community that something will be figured out. A few weeks ago it wasn't even possible to flash custom kernels and such, and they managed to figure it out. Now that things are flowing nicely, the rom developers have started working on making things again, and maybe there's more things being looked into in terms of rooting.
I've been here since my X1 and the community hasn't let me down yet, I'm confident they will find a way to get a root, and probably (given the speed even a tester CM9 came out) before ICS.
I guess you might have wait for those paid software like setool .... It will be like the same case like xperia arc. Rogers or any branded phone do not allow bootloader unlock.

Too bad the phone is going to Sony on Monday for the yellow screen issue.

Yeah, I can't take the plunge and use this phone as my daily driver. Not with Timescape (or whatever you call the Sony UI). I want to be able to use AOSP apps. What I hate is when the UI elements creep over when you're using an app (stuff like checkboxes) and it just makes the overall experience feel inconsistant.
I have since buying the phone debranded it and flashed the singpore rom, and it does a good job at eliminating bloatware, but I want to go in deeper and install CM9 whenever that's ready.
The phone does have what looks like the test point connections, I wanted to mess around with them but I didn't have the proper screws to remove the battery cover. Anyone know what the size of the screws are so I can get a screwdriver that fits?

If you could have done the test point process, I'm sure it would already be posted here. It's quite possible there will be some type of testpoint exploit in the future.. But as of now not the case. I wouldnt suggest messing around inside your phone unless your ready to void your warrenty and at least somewhat know what your doing.
Who knows you could be some secret dev-ninja-genius. ...but then again your asking about screwdriver sizes instead of just eyeballing it like most people would do, so I very much doubt that bro.
Just my 2 cents.

I know you were just trying to be mindfull of what happens to my phone and stuff, but if I "eyeballed" the size what good would it do if I don't have a small enough bit to fit the screw? I was able to remove the frearson screws but am missing the torx.
A test point method is still possible (maybe) but the reason that there are no posts about it is that the software used (Omnius, SEtools, etc) is not yet compatible with the XS.
Im toooo interested too, my phone has bootloader blocked for my phone company, so I cant get root or do anything
Im waiting, I hope too much they find a solution soon !

no I didn't try any other, sent several mails and made some registrations but didn't buy from them (some replied simply that they couldn't do it), I searched and even posted a thread to ask if people found a sure site, but without any luck. Then I found this thread and in it there are several sites/ebay sellers that were reported working for the ION with SEcodes the latest, so I wrote them an email because I wanted other codes as well (got response in less than 5 min) they told me to wait about a week and I got them six days later. Was worried because I read the whole site and their return policy wasn't clear. It turned out that my order was number 30 something so i hoped it wasn't a scam and my hopes came through
I read that the method with the sever even unlocked some bootloaders, which is a big plus and was cheaper but no luck with that.
as advice if you worry to much and have a camera or a phone that could make a good video, you could record the first time you enter the code (IMEI and service menu visible) so if it doesn't work you shouldn't need to do it again for proof if they want video and decrease the number of the counter

I just ordered from Sonyericssoncodes, got my fingers crossed, I hope it'll work. It does sound like Sony has some of the worst locking.
Still waiting for the code from Sonyericssoncodes, originally he said it'd be available today, but prob not until next week.

Find stolen phone by IMEI number

Hello all,
Sadly, my SGS 2 was stolen at a railway station recently. I had removed the sim from the phone since the battery was low to put it in another phone. So it's lost now without the sim in it.
Is there any way at to track the phone purely by it's IMEI number (which is all I have)??
I'm totally wrecked that it's gone... I didn't have any tracking software loaded on the phone like AndroidLost /Cerebrus or anything of that sort. I did have Avast I think but I'm not sure if that has a tracking feature.I doubt if I can also use that remote installation technique (which one actually really works?) considering there is no sim on it with no net connection on it.
Help from the local police station in filing a lost phone case so that the IMEI can be reported to the network provider has been useless as they both seem to have better things to do and just keep me running in circles.
Is there anything at all left that I can do on my own now? I've seen a lot of sites where they say you can report your IMEI lost phone number and they say they will alert you if it ever comes up. But there seems to be a lot of them out there. Which one would be the most reliable to do this?
Has anyone else done this before with any success. Looking for the best possible information and hopefully some solution to get back my phone. It had so much of my stuff on it and I spent months customizing it. Really regretting now that I didn't take the time to load a tracking software on it.
Thanks for any help or insight anyone can provide.
Firstly, my sympathies. I can imagine how bad it must feel to lose your phone. Have you tried 'Plan B' by Lookout? It'll work if at all the phone is ever connected to a data plan/ wireless network.
Hope it helps.

Thanks Haxtreme, I've installed Plan B via Google Play online and I picked my SGS2 device and it said that Plan B will be remotely installed to my phone.
But is this relying on the sim to deploy the software to the phone? I don't remember punching in my IMEI number for my device on the Google Play store at any point. Does it already have the IMEI number? If not, how do I update that on the Play Store so it knows where to remotely install the software to?
Thanks again for your prompt reply!

No it uses your Google account not the sim. as long as its got a connection to the internet and is linked to your account, it'll get installed irrespective of whether the sim has been changed or removed. The IMEI and google account are linked the very first time you boot up a phone and it asks you to enter your mail id or create a new one.
The fact that it shows up in your list of devices when you log on to Google play via your desktop itself shows that its still linked and your account hasn't been deleted from the phone.

1) u can use 'Avast' antivirus which has 'Anti theft' functionality.
2) u can try some third party apps like 'Cerebrus' from stores and see
Well I am sorry for the loss of your phone but listen buddy... All these software stuff is not really gonna help because i don't believe they can give you any pin point location of the thief. What i did successfully, when my Galaxy Note was lost previous month. I had the original IMEI number and i had contacts in Law Enforcing Agencies of my country. I requested one of my friend there and he asked my IMEI number.Few days later, he informed me that my number is being used by someone and his calls are being tracked. Yet another few days later, he asked me to come by and collect my phone. When i visited his office, i found the thief locked and my cell recovered. The guy told me that while listening to his calls, the thief eventually revealed his location, while giving someone his address for collection of something. So Police caught him at the address. I dont know about your country, but if you have someone in these kinds offices, they can surely help. Thanx
One thing I dont understand is how a cheap GPS system gives mostly an exact global position, but these phones with all them tracking software dont.

theres not alot you can do unless you have a connection in mobile providers so they can track your imei number, if they found a s2 with no sim they would leave it off and use odin or cwm so tracking would be harder

I don't think the issue is that the GPS part of the mobile can't locate the position better or worse than a cheap gps system. For tracking a lost phone a well working gps is not enough. You also need a working internet connection and a clear view of the sky in order to get a fix. Like any gps system. It is the combination of this factors that determines the quality of a good tracking configuration.

Via apps like Cerberus and others you can set your phone to automatically send thief's mobile number via email or sms after they insert new sim. You can remotely get your phone to take pictures and videos (front and back cams), sound recordings. You also create pop up messages on screen (and take pic when they open it), remotely wipe or lock device, install the app as system app and also hide it from app tray.
So a GPS location is just a bonus really.

Thanx

Hello all,
Sadly, my SGS 2 was stolen at a railway station recently.

First of all I would like to tell you Avast has a very good anti theft feature (which is completely free by the way) if you had root it does allow nand write(for settings I guess) and integration into your rom(factory reset can't remove it then) only a flash operation can remove it, in settings if you had set friend numbers and safe numbers, the moment an unknown sim is inserted, messages are sent to your friends numbers informing sim change (you will get the the thief's number) also if you had enabled it in settings it will force both data connection and gps on too, you can track the phone with gps precision by sending a message (either via sms or their online portal) with the pin code(details are in their site), you can lock the phone, perform a wipe, sound an alarm many other functions. Avast also has amazing stealth technology and starts at boot, so if you want you can jump the thief because he will be able to see only his balance reducing while you remotely control your phone. The key thing you must do is set friend numbers.
Edit : The only way to bypass this security is flashing a new rom. Also it can't be un installed as it will be set as device administrator which requires password unlock.

I really do hope you had set friend numbers, Avast anti theft was very useful to me as sometimes my little brother "steals" my phone because he adores my s2, and sometimes I get really pissed so i remotely lock it rendering it completely useless, even if the phone is switched off and on it will lock again, unless I type in my pin or remotely grant access the phone will remain locked.

Firstly, my sympathies. I can imagine how bad it must feel to lose your phone. Have you tried 'Plan B' by Lookout? It'll work if at all the phone is ever connected to a data plan/ wireless network.
Hope it helps.

Go to the play store via your computer. Log in with your gmail id, 'purchase' the plan b app. (Its free) and select the particular device from the list of your devices, if there is one. If your phone is ever connected to the Internet and still linked with your Google account, it'll get downloaded
Good luck.
