Hi i have a Galaxy S2 with some strange issues attached .Firstly upon leaving overnight on a full charge it shows 100% charged but when unplugged from charger it instantaneously drops to critical and dies minutes later. Also the USB will not charge or connect to kies or register as a drive since the battery issue started . I have bough replacement batteries incase of an overcoooked original and same thing on all three.
The phone is on orange and is running a stock rom gingerbread 2.3.3 and is unrooted never been messed with or flashed and im the only owner .
Could this be a potential board fault ?or could it have in some way faultered on the firmware somehow with an easy fix
cheers in advance guys ..

First it sounds like a battery issue.
But if you checked with different batteries and with all you have these issues, it really seems to be a hardware issue in the phone ... maybe the battery stats chip, or the controller for charging (from power and USB plug).
If you are still on warranty, go to the store/service center and ask for a repair or replacement.
Good luck !
You can also try to clean phone battery connectors.
Best with izopropanol.

Ok. Had GS2 5 months, been no bother , had several different roms and last rom was Criseklo v38. Plugged phone into charger and nothing happened
Tried several chargers nothing. Waited about 40 secs with charger in and suddenly the phone tells me its charging... odd but ok. left phone to charge well left it half an hour unplugged charger it read 92% but upon unplugging charger the phone read it was still charging After about half a minute it no longer read it was charging. Ok . Leave phone to charge to full when it tells me, i unplug charger it reads 100% and stays at 100% and flicks between its charging and its not and percentage doesnt drop from 100% until i reboot and it drops to about 96% or so. Battery now loses about 50% overnight and i cannot gauge what state my battery really is at. Wiped phone, formatted new rom, same issue. different rom same issue. I assume from this its not software problem. Is it i need a new battery or does it sound like phones gone **** up. BTW i plug usb to pc and it instantly loads up my sd cards as normal so the usb port seems unaffected. Im not sure what to do
Check what kernel was installed with your last ROM.Sometimes kernels that are use for OC/UV can cause wierd things like this. You may have a corrupt one and if so may need to flash it again.Flash a CF-Root kernel and see what happens. If that doesnt change the problem then we will have to look somewhere else, but its a start.
I acquired a new ext battery but phone still has same issue. I've cleaned kernels in cwm and flashed others but the problem still persists.
I don't know what else to try.

Had the exact same issue on my SGS2. This is not a software or battery problem. I took it to my local samsung service center and they replaced the port where we connect the charger and it started working fine after that.
Mine was under warranty and i was not charged for anything. So everything's back to normal.

Did you return your sgs2 to default or was it rooted when when you returned it to a Samsung service center. I think its what ill have to do is return it under warentee.

Wow sounds like the exact same problem I had just a few days ago. I think my problem was down to moisture caused by using my phone while out in the snow. I bought a new board on ebay for £7 and that fixed the problem but obviously involved removing the casing and a few screws and plugs to fit.
Well i rooted the phone and was running a deodexed rom with siyah kernel. but before taking it to the service center, i flashed a stock rom and kernel and did the binary counter reset with a jig.
Even then they found out that the phone was rooted before, though i pretended i dint do anything and they couldn't justify it. So i guess the warranty was still valid.
hey, about a week ago I flashed my galaxy s2 with Resurrection ROM,everything went great,I also wiped emmc in the recovery(before I knew about the hard brick bug)
anyways everything was fine, restored via titanium backup, after about an hour I wanted to restart my phone,so it turned off,but never turned on,it won't respond to charging, usb connections won't go to download mode nor recovery..just makes some heat (as it was turned on)
so I took it to a well known repair shop and told me he could revive it with a J-Tag
but I'am just worried :s
what could be the problem?
What could the problem be ? Without opening your phone up & having a look/testing how would we know ?
Sounds like something on the mainboard or the USB/charging circuitry might have died given it died suddenly & not while you were in the process of flashing something/similar, though if he's telling you it's fixable with JTAG then he obviously thinks it's a NAND issue.
Take it to another repairer & get 2nd opinion (or a 3rd, 4th, etc).

My SGSII stopped with charging!
The battery was empty so i wanted to charge it, but the big battery never showed on screen
I tried different charging methods (wallcharger, usb) and used different battery's (standard 1650Mah & Extended Battery Kit 2000 Mah)
Is there something i can do because its way to early to buy another phone!
And just because i want to have it fixed

My phone dead too.. Was using NeatRomLite and there was no issue with it.. And today... *sniff sniff*.. in the middle of using the phone, it got stuck.. I pulled the battery.. gave it 2 min.. and tried to power it on.. nothin.. no download mode, no recovery, no charging indicators.. nothin.. it has as much functionality as a piece of rock now :crying:
Any updates on your S2's???
today i checked my phone and within an hour the battery had gone down from 70% to 30% and was hot reading 48 degrees celcius on widgetsoid monitor. i rebooted and it kept on draining till it got to 0 and turned off. once i got home and tried to charge through USB and A/C but nothing happens, the phone wont turn on or charge, blank screen. i saw it flash the battery charging icon for about a second but it went away straight away. about a month ago i was running cm9 and then flashed 4.0.4 to have a look at the differences but not long after flashed siyah kernel with odin and restored my cm9 cwm backup. i have been on cm9 and siyah kernel for a long time and thats what it had running today. ive had usb and a/c and misc charging current set to 600mA for quite a while as well, and when i charge the phone in my car it always gets a bit hot on the back.
is my phone dead from hardbrick or a problem with the usb charging circuit?
i have enquired about warranty where i bought it from and now waiting to hear back from them.
Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300) is just more than 1 month old. Due to the really bad multitasking abilities of the stock TouchWiz (On such an expensive phone, I couldn't browse and play music at the same time) I got really frustrated.
I rooted and flashed the ROM twice. Tried and tested two ROMs. Didn't quite like em. Came back to stock ROM.
Now I'm on stock ROM and still rooted. The charging time of my S3 was always very long and in my last charging attempt it has taken more than 9 hours to completely charge. I've done a factory restore already.
I've checked the charger through battery widgets and the charger is detected as an "AC Charger". I'm not sure if those battery calibrating software work. I don't think the charger is at fault.
I really need a fix for this charging issue. It's really sad that a brand new phone is acting like this.
Will be very thankful for all the help.

Okay, the new cable worked. However even it has shown the same problem once. The thing with my phone is it doesn't charge at the same speed every time. I can't be assured that after connecting the charger at night, I'll get a full charge in the morning. Sometimes the charger works well. Sometimes it does not.
You may have a faulty charging port or wall charger if you have already changed the cable...
Why not download the Galaxy Charging Current app and see if your SIII is charging at 1000mA using wall charger?
Galaxy Charging Current
My original samsung charge cable developed problems after 8 months (it started only charging at between 300mA to 800mA; changes after you plug in and plug out the cable to the SIII)
The wall charger is still ok as I get 1000mA again after replacing the cable with a Capdase cable.
The S3 has built in stability detection for USB charging. If it determines the connection is unstable, it restricts charge. Usually a simple cable swap resolves but as mentioned above, the port could be faulty.
If you're rooted try a kernel such as Devil or Perseus which can have stability detection ignored.
Hi XDA,
My Galaxy S3 stopped charging properly a couple of days ago. In a matter of hours it froze and charged a bit slower, then it wouldn't charge anymore. When the phone is off and I plug in the charger, the animation starts for about 1 - 2 seconds, and then the screen goes black. If it's on, nothing happens when i plug the charger in and out.
I've owned the phone for a year, and I rooted about 3 weeks ago, and installed CM10.1 (Nightly). It worked fine until this problem.
I've troubleshooted a bit on my own, and what I've found out is that, it can't be the battery that's the problem, because I've tried three different ones, and the problem stays the same. It can't be the USB port on the phone, since I can get it to work in Download mode (ODIN mode). I've also tried CM9 and flashing back to stock android. I've also tried charging it from the wall and the computer, and used different cables. Nothing has done any better.
I'm guessing it's software related, I just can't figure out how to fix it.
Thanks in advance,
Zhibbhi
the charging port of the phone might be faulty.

By charging port I would suggest the charging circuit inside the phone is faulty, as it sounds like you've eliminated all the other possibilities. Return the phone to fully stock for warranty repair.
So even if I can access the phone through ODIN, the charging circuit can be faulty?
I just thought it was a strange coincident that it went faulty a just a couple of weeks after I installed CM10.1

Odin has nothing to do with the charging circuit .
Solutions .
One the battery try another
Two the charger try another >> charge phone from PC usb .
Three the cable try another
Four the USB port on the phone >>> clean
Five the onboard charging circuit >>> needs a service centre .
Six and highly unlikely a firmware problem wipe phone flash stock rom .
jje
Ok, thanks a ton guys! I'm going to set the phone back to stock, and send it in for warranty repair as I've tried everything else.

In the future, avoid using S3's stock charging cable. I changed mine to one I bought off eBay and had no probs since then. I had several frequent problems like slow charging/no charging etc.

Best avoid using the phone to charge the battery at all, that way you don't stress the phone components with wake lock and heat. Buy a £6 desk charger and spare battery, replacing these is much cheaper than the phone motherboard.
Solved
I have an S3 and lately it has taken longer to charge and it was charging to less percentage. I tried 2 different chargers and 3 different cables with the same outcome. I was thinking about one of the threads I had read and they mentioned going to the cell store and it charged for them. I've read about it being the charge circuit on the main board and various other problems and solutions that didn't work. I went to Staples today and purchased a SCOSCHE reVOLT line h1 2.1 amp quick charge and in less than an hour I charged from 63% to the 100% I haven't seen in quite a while. The Samsung OEM charger it seems (as well as the other one I tried) had lost some of it's get up and go. It is working fine now and with this charger it doesn't take long at all to reach full charge. I've put a lot of time into customizing this phone after root and would have been VERY disappointed if I had to start over with a new one. I'd be willing to bet at least 90% of the charging problems people are posting about are caused by the charger deteriorating over time.

OK I bought used Galaxy S2 2-3 months ago & it was damaged or something (screw the seller) & it is not charging and battery draining very fastly even when the phone is locked & the phone is not connecting to PC and Odin too failed to detect my S2 . I bought a desktop charger & I have 2 batteries for it and it take almost 8-9 hours for fully charging the battery. My brother said it is short & and it can't be repaired. Actually he repaired the mobile from a mobile repairing shop & the phone worked perfectly fine (charging & connecting to PC)
but just after a day it returned to its original position i.e not charging & battery was draining. My question is that my S2 can't be repaired? I want to ask what exactly happened to it (can't understand what is short).
Any help regarding this would be really appreciated :good:

Perhaps he meant a short circuit. It means that there's something damaged inside your phone and the current flows somehow as it normally shouldn't flow.
After reading the description of the problem I first thought that maybe your USB port is damaged. That would explain the charging and connection problems. But it doesn't explain the battery drain... I don't know. Decide on your own if you want to try another USB port. It costs about 15 Euros and it's not that hard to change. Just google about this topic.
Hope this helps somehow.
