Hi..
How fast (or slow) your Streak boots? It seems to me that my Streak was booting much faster before. Now takes two minutes to complete booting.
- p.s. - complete boot, from Dell's logo to the locked screen...
Tnx...I hope you understand the question ( sorry for my eng.)

are you using longhorn 2.9.1?
by the way.. i am using longhorn 2.7 and after i turn off boot animation and sound.. it took only 30 second to do complete boot like you said... every time
Longorn 2.9.1
Yes, I'am on Longhorn 2.9.1 with cobalt theme....
Don't know...maybe the problem is in this theme...it doesn't bother me so much
...I'm just curious
tnx for reply

It depends on the rom (obviously) and the amount of apps you have that do stuff at bootup.
On ICS my device is finished booting before the bootanimation completes (you can unlock the screen if you know where the button is and it will unlock)
I went from Longhorn 2.9.1 to 2.7 and it was a huge difference. From around 2min+ boot time to around 30 seconds.
I was (and still am) new to this and a simple nandroid backup before flashing 2.7 then a data restore after flashing, going great.
tnx...
Yes...obviously that's it.
I have tons of apps

Depends on rom, cpu, kernel apps ( like launcher, fb, twitter and what opens at boot)

As far as i know, LH 2.9.1 has implemented some kind of defragging at boot, that thing takes some time to complete, so there you go with the boot time.
To make some advertising, you can try my LXdroid ROM 0.2 (link in signature )
CM 7.2 on my Streak with Phoenix kernel test 3 and 187 apps installed takes around 40 seconds with original inner SD

MIUI 2.4.20 takes about 30-33 seconds to boot, i run it quite lean with all apps i don't need running at startup turned off.
I think the speed of your innersd card might have an influence here however as i haven't swapped out mine yet i don't know for sure, actually something i really should do since the PDMI port is broken, and the device is worth nothing, might as well give it a go.
if you guys using longhorn 2.9 and above.. yes.. it does takes time for data defragging and moving data to internal sd... longhorn 2.7 is nothing fancy.. so it complete boots in just 30 seconds...
well... only longhorn 2.9 and above takes it time to boot... the other rom is pretty much standard boot time...

I'm loving cm7. Speed, debloat, a little freedom. Only thing better would be an unlocked bootloader and/or ics

If you have a DX2 this ROM is a MUST!!!!!! You have to down load it! Why Motorola would let Verizon fill the phone with some so crap is beyond me. Stock, the phone was a little buggy and made me wish asurion would give me back my cracked DX. It was choppy and the 512MB of RAM got was used up quickly with all the BLUR (Yes its good now but 512MB isnt enough). Stock google with no blur equals a dual core phone that flies!!! Take your time, follow the directions and you will never look back!!!
+1, your insight is well outspoken.
Thanks for the review brandon. It made me switch from liberty to cm7. I'll never look back! (except for miui )

alright well so far what i have noticed with this rom (and i came from the most recent version of eclipse) are the following:
1.) Battery life is much worse than before. i used to have 70 to 80 percent on days i wouldnt use or touch the phone and it would sit in my pocket for 90 percent of the school day. i barely touch my phone in school and when i got home today after practice, i was already down to 30% which made me slightly depressed.
2.) ive noticed there are small amounts of lag sometimes with the phone, granted when i was running eclipse, i was running speedy and a 3g script.
3.) i have had a little trouble with the gallery but it might just be the fact that my memory card is starting to poop on my face because its overstuffed to the brim
so now for a few questions. can you run any of the good scripts with cm7 because i really dont see alot of this speed that everyone keeps talking about compared to when i was running eclipse. is there also a way to increase the battery life like delete the file that saved the previous battery stats?
thanks for reading btw
Regarding your question about scripts, I believe the general consensus is that the scripts that we had run on the other ROM's should not be necessary.
However, someone in another thread posted this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21689117&postcount=3 and claims it helped w/ his battery life. He doesn't say by exactly how much, but he seems happy.
I haven't had many issues w/ battery life and I've seen improvement over the Eclipse rom, but you might want to monitor your current battery usage for patterns.
thanks! but yeah ive also noticed with this "hacked" cm7 recovery that when i try to install it it wants to force close, and when i click wait, a few seconds later it says install success! and when i click recovery mode it just shuts off and never reboots. whats the problem?
---------- Post added at 08:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ----------
and another problem ive found is that sometimes when my phone starts up, i get the roaming triangle next to my service strength bar and it flashes. why is it doing that?!
Are you plugged into the wall charger?

and should i try sbf'ing again with a different sbf file? because i just rebooted my phone again and it flashed the roaming triangle again :/

Great review, enjoyed the video as well! I am so stoked about this rom! I just flashed it last night. I have not been this excited about my X2 since the first Gingerbread rom was released.
I do notice a big decrease in battery life but I am going to try and calibrate the battery and see if that helps. Also, I'm going to give it a few days too since I've been using the phone more than usual too setting everything up.
Hi all,
I know this has been discussed before but I haven't seen any solution yet so here is my attempt.
My streak is rebooting with flashing lights. This almost exclusively happens after I've been playing a game for ~20 minutes or watching a movie for ~40 minutes. After that the graphics freeze for a fraction of a second and the lights flash and the streak reboots. Streak can boot (while draining 10% of battery instantly) but it will still reboot after it has loaded everything. I have to remove battery and presumably let it cool down for a few minutes before booting it up again into usable state.
It has also rebooted before on weird occasions like sitting on my desk charging or installing an application from market, but those were very seldom. Playing a game or watching a movie is a fail-proof way of crashing the streak.
This has happened on variety of systems from official 1.6, official 2.2, official 2.2.2, DJ 1.6, DJ 1.9, and most currently DSC 7.1. They are all wonderful ROMs, but none of them prevent this from occurring.
I replaced my InnerSD (using the cutaway method) with 4GB class 10 Kingston hoping it might be the problem but the problem persists.
I tried throttling back the speed below 800Mhz but makes almost no difference. Just takes a little longer to reboot loop. Some time ago I tried monitoring the temperature and it didn't go above 32 degrees Celsius while it still bootlooped.
So I am currently out of ideas of an "easy" repair. Is there any repair that comes to your minds? I wouldn't mind completely disassembling the streak for this purpose. (Dell will not accept my device...I confirmed and only afterwards I replaced the InnerSD)
Thanks for any suggestions.
having the same issue...
my streak runs fine... then suddenly the LED's start blinking a few times, and the phone reboots...
while playing games, making calls, surfing net....
anytime!
i am using a 1gb sdcard at the moment.
internal is 2gb, obviously...
the last few weeks i have flashed 345, 351, 360, 366, 407 update packages, nothing helped...
have flashed over 10 custom roms time and again, nothing helped...
have underclocked my device, did not help....
i mean i have tried my best in trying everything that i thought could help...
but nothing yet...
so i think, ultimately, is my mobo gone??
or any other way to know what is wrong??
thanks

Any success on this?
I just got my Streak 5 out of the bottom of the it's grave (just a forgotten drawer) but it was there because I had the same problem.
it looks much better then the galaxy Note 2!
overheating streak
Try this ..... take out the battery , wrap your streak up in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for ten minutes , my streak wont do anything unless it is frozen to under 24.4c . no fastboot or recovery , it boots up and performs perfectly until it reaches 24.4c then it goes unstable .
Okay, this may be an issue with just ME & my Atrix, or it may be every single Atrix on the planet.. I don't know - which is why I'm creating this thread.
When I "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM (something I do quite often, as I'm a flash addict) it is PAINFULLY slow.
Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it takes at least 30 seconds
(I haven't thought to time it until I started typing this sentence lol - maybe next time) - I thought that this was just how long such an operation took (despite the fact that a fastboot -w is done in just a few seconds)
UNTIL I rooted and flashed a custom ROM to my mother's Samsung Galaxy S a couple of hours ago - which finished the operation in fastboot-esque speed.
So.. Firstly - is this something everybody has to put up with?
If not - what do you think caused this, and what could be done to speed things up a bit?
I've always hated Samsung phones, but after rooting/flashing/setting up that SGS earlier, my Atrix is suddenly looking less attractive..
Are you using the CWM Touch recovery? I was having an issue of speed with it so I switched back to romracer's. Its much faster than the touch version for me.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me....I'm getting kind of desperate here! Basically my Atrix keeps randomly rebooting or getting stuck with the screen off (requiring a batter pull) . This happens about 10-20 times a day (my Atrix is far too unreliable right now to use as a daily). This seems to ONLY happen when on network (ie 2g/3g/hspa) and doesn't seem to happen on wifi. I can leave it on all night and day at home on wifi happily with no trouble but as soon as I go to work and leave it on network, the trouble starts. Its weird cause if the phone is doing something with the screen off (playing and streaming music over Bluetooth for example) it won't have any problems. Its only once I leave it at rest on the network that it turns into the most unreliable handset ever.
At first I thought it may be the neutrino rom I was running but I've since been using jokersax's amazing ics builds and the same problem persists. I did a full clean (format /data & /system plus cache and factory wipe ) and loaded on the latest beta build this morning, left it clean with zero apps except google (and xda!) and within an hour of getting to work the problem came back.
I am fully boot loader and network unlocked.
Please, if anyone has any idea I would be really grateful. I am tearing my hair out!

It is happening with me too, but, I dont realize it on happen on mobile data connection
Since i flashed beta 0.1.0 2d of Jokersax's ICS and come out of home
Today, for 5 times I have to pull battery out of Atrix
Why not try a more stable ROM first and see if you get reboots. You do realize some phones just cannot handle unstable roms like the cm9 builds even though they are great for some ppl it just doesn't workout also maybe you are using an oc kernel that your phone cannot handle.I would check both things first.
Try some a bit more stable.
cm7 ba2ft
wetdream
darkside
gingermod
If you get the same with those then maybe fastboot wipe and stuff like that so you can clear everything out
EDIT: flash a radio too

Hey,
Thanks, I'm going to try Gingerblur tonight... I had ruled that out as I have used darkside/gingerblur before and apart from the occasional reboot they were OK. The reboot was OK really, I know its a known issue with this model even with unrooted handsets, as long as its occasional and clean boots back to system again it doesn't really matter as I don't pin lock my sim (currently my problems are either a reboot every three minutes as soon as I switch the screen off... or, more commonly, the dead screen, needing that battery pull) .
I *suspect* that it may be the radio, but really need some solid advice on this because a couple of years ago I completely bricked my G1 by flashing the wrong radio and vowed never to touch radios again if I didn't have to....I am naturally very hesitant about radio flashing from that episode. Can anyone give me some decent advice on which radios i should be looking at for an unlocked ( but formerly Orange UK) Atrix? One very nervous owner here!
The other weird thing is that is perfectly fine when on a power source.

Hang on, I'm not making sense here, maybe it is these advanced ROMs, I was just surprised that neutrino (a cm7 based rom) also produced these reboot problems. Anyway, any advice on radios would be appreciated

As long as you flash atrix radios only you should be okay. I flashed just about every applicable radio on my brother's captivate and never bricked it.
I agree with you and previous posters, it sounds like a radio issue for sure.

I have the same problem with my Atrix running cm7 ba2ft. Sometimes it does not respond when you try to unlock, and I need to take out the battery to turn it on again. I bought the phone couple of weeks ago.
another thing to look at would be the battery my friend had similar problems with his nexus and tryed Roms and radios I bought him a new battery as a joke and the joke ended up on me cause he hasn't had the problem since let me know if this helped you aswell

Same problem here. Very aggravating.
I am having the same problem. And I am 100% stock with no mods. I just installed OTA 2.3.6 so I am waiting to see if that helped.
Yeah, I'm really worried this is a hardware problem - I've been quiet these past couple of days testing the brand new GB radio and when that still had errors i then also tried the European one - the problem still persists. I have now downloaded every Atrix radio under the sun now so may try a few more...
This is quite frustrating as a) I really want to enjoy ICS as it really is a step up from previous versions of Android and b) I no longer have the option of selling this in its current state.
I'm also going to try a new battery as WikidClown suggested above, can't harm....I can pick up one on Amazon for less than a tenner.
One thing is for sure, I don't think I will be buying Moto hardware again!

i baught my atrix used. everything was stock. still had multiple reboots and battery pulls daily. on cm9 they seem to happen less. and the battery pull only happened once. but i know the issue must still be there. might try my wifes battery. her atrix has rebooted maybe 5 times ever. 3 since this last official update (she is still lock stock and 2 smoking barrels)
OK, trying a new battery is my last hope...I did a fastboot wipe this morning and for an hour and a half it was all going so well...but then the reboot happened.

One thing to note is that it does seem to get very warm on the back, although the internals ( behind the battery) don't seem so bad. Is there any way to keep the temp down aside from underclocking? All my roms have always been under clocked so I know that doesn't make any difference.
The other thing I might try is to use something like Noled so the phone isn't completely idle. Might drain the battery a bit unnecessarily though....why couldn't Moto have put in an amoled screen?
Anyway, will report back once I've tried it.

I used to get tons of random reboots and then I was told to get the app called "Wake My Android Pro". Settings -> Test Activity -> Auto Startup, and Stop Activity checked. Weird settings, I know, technically with stop activity checked it doesn't do anything, but ever since then I don't experience random reboots. This was a few months ago when I was on just CM7. I've always installed this app when I get a new rom and I've tried Neutrino, Darkside, Alien, Aura, CM7, Wet Dream, and currently on joker's CM9 beta 1 build and RARELY experience random reboots. It went from once an hour to once a month now. I'm also on the .36p radio if that helps.

Cheers, have downloaded and will report back. The most annoying thing about troubleshooting a problem like this is that there is no immediate 'it worked or 'it didn't work' ....it's just a waiting game! Thanks a lot though, really hope it does work (and thanks for replying, was starting to feel like I was answering threads to myself!). I have .36 radio installed already (I think, will check...it's the Brazilian one isn't it?) .
Just to check then...you have all the check boxes in wake my android ticked?

Afternoon Forum
This possibly has been asked before however the search features of Google are insufficient at finding anything related to what I am asking.
Basically, I am looking for, whether it be a ROM or Kernel of Making my GS2 Boot Faster, I have timed my current ROM at 30 seconds, which to me as a bench marker is diabolical.
I remember having a ROM, I believe on my GS1 that made boot time around 8 seconds, I wonder if similar attempts have been tried for the GS2.
I look forward to your replies.
N.E.A.K kernel boots pretty fast. It actually gives the little vibrate, when everything is loaded, before the boot animation is finished.

#1 bootloader
#2 kernel
#3 init
#4 framework
Most useful thing you can do on a stock ROM is getting a slimmer kernel.
Most useful thing you can do in general is use an AOSP ROM with a slim kernel.
How often are you restarting your phone (and immediately need to use it) that 30 seconds matters?
You're ****ting me ??
You're actually concerned about a 30 second boot ? Sheesh
Only way around that is to run the most stripped back rom/kernel combination you can get your hands on, have no autoruns and basically install no apps on the phone.

Just to quote as can't believe 30 seconds boot to be an issue... To OP you have a smartphone to which is relative to a computer how long does your computer take to boot? How many times are you really having to restart phone? Not questions as rhetorical......
And an 8 second boot on a SP it must have been turbo #ROM
