If you are done trying the wire trick, then pull out the all in one kit 3.2 and look at the thread and flash the stock ics from football and following their directions and thank football and Hansoon for the info and links.

Glad it worked for you lol. And same here, I had to do it 20-30 times but finally got it right

When I tried, I spent over an hour and a half trying to get it to work. I ran my battery down, and got to a point where I ran out of juice to keep going. I, too, thought I bricked it.
However, as long as you've not been successful, your bootloader should still be intact. And as long as you have that, you can recover from having completely blank partitions.
The next morning, after a full charge, I simply restored stock recovery using Hassoon's All-in-one Toolkit, and ran the stock RUU installer. Finito. Flashed 4EXT and began enjoying custom ROMs. There is no need to S-OFF if you're only flashing Custom ROMs.
I haven't unlocked the Carrier ID (CID), but I can flash any single ROM I want (T-Mo, Telus, etc). I have carrier unlocked the phone, however that was done through an online unlocking service. The whole reason I wanted to S-OFF was because the Amaze Bible indicated you could carrier unlock the phone yourself, without relying on another service.

I read on goodandevo.net that its supposed to erase all the contacts and everything else that you changed on the phone. that it basically reverts it to stock. is that true?

Why does it say "unlocked" but it still says S-ON?
I noticed that it says S-On, can you flash a custom recovery via bootloader?

I was able to flash clockwork mod. TWP didnt boot and just rebooted the phone when I tried to go into recovery. I dont have any roms here to flash and I'm leaving in a few for a final I have. BUT I did pop my memory card in there and am going through a restore now

I wonder if you can run the fastboot command "setsecureflag" if that will change the S-ON to S-OFF.

Why? HTC makes the phone and software for it. Their methods are better than finding hacks and holes in the software to push the things needed for s-off, etc.

I don't see why people are so scared to use the method. Yes you loose your warranty, but honestly how many people have used warranty to fix a phone? I personally have NEVER, but have used insurance 3 times over the last 10 years.

^ Thats why i don't use the HTC Unlock.
S-ON will always be on using HTC's method. I believe it's to keep you from flashing the radio. If I'm correct the only extra thing you can actually flash with htc's unlocker is the system, data and boot partition. Or certain recovery's authorized by HTC can be flashed.

Hmm ill try when I get home. It's not my phone. It's my friends. Hehe mine has been s-off since the day it was released.
Ok so can't flash splash screens. I tried flashing it via fastboot and the zip. When i try in fastboot I get a bootloader signiture error. When i try the zip it starts to parse it but then boots me out. Engine hboot zip did the same thing. While its partially unlocked I think they still locked down some things. Fastboot erase recovery errors out saying not allowed.

Really? 10 times in 3 years. This is why HTC is reserving the right to void your warranty. Phones will be offered as is before long if others are destroying them as fast as you.

Worked for me as far as I can tell. My device says S-ON but above that says 'UNLOCKED' and I was able to flash the CWR 5 recovery image and use that as posted earlier in this thread.
The worst nightmare was getting my computer to recognize the phone. I had recently put a new hard drive in my computer, and HTC Sync etc would NOT work. I tried TWO other computers and still would not work. Finally had to dig up the old hard drive, put it back in my first computer (since I had used that successfully to update my Slide in the first place to Froyo 2.2) and do all the steps.
Still can't explain what the problem was, since the new hard drive is the same base OS (Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit) but at least it worked. And now this phone has some life again (despite a failure to replace a cracked digitizer)

You can't S-OFF with the new bootloaders. But at least with your bootloader unlocked, you can do some of the things an S-OFF'd phone can (like flashing CWM Recovery and r/w in /system/), so it's still fairly useful.

You should be able to just flash the kernel like the guy above said if the s off process didn't work. That's the first thing I would try.
Was the newer RUU the stock Verizon non rooted RUU, and not a pre rooted stock type rom only? The rom only would explain why you're getting the jpbear screen on your phone still.
Yea flashing the right kernel worked, but this same phone has now gotten stuck at same screen 3 straight times.
I guess this particular phone just doesn't want to be s-off........
Try rerunning the exe several times. Every phone I've s-offed, I've had to rerun controlbear literally 4-5 times to get it to finally work.

Do you get past the wire trick part? And it say success 3 or 4 times and then get the error sober message? If so..what sd card are you using? are you using the one that came with your phone or a different one?

S- Off Question

It seems all the ROMs these days are requiring S OFF SO I am planning on doing it tonight.
Just curious, if you did S OFF what did you use for the wire?? It's not like I have wire hanging around my house or something... and if I have to purchase something where do I go???????????????????????????
This sounds so noobish and I am so NOT a noob LOL
Just did this today with a paper clip. Use one that has insulation on it and cut it back a bit on either end.
Like he^^ said said, insulated paperclip works great. Just wanted to throw out there though that the roms that require s-off, are the ics roms. However if you update your phone to ics via the official update first, then you wouldnt need s-off to flash those roms. Just saying in case for some reason you didn't want to do s-off.

I used a twisted copper wire usually found for automotive speaker wire. It was hard to use because I couldn't get a good contact in the little hole. I say go with a paper clip. If you can't find an insulated one then you can wrap it with electrical tape.
Also don't give up and be sure you have a charged backup battery. Be sure to also have the RUU ready on a spare sdcard. And also have the other one ready as well.
I just used some plain paper clip that I bent to make it work. It took a couple of times but I got it to work.

Quite a while since I tried with the stupid headphones wire first..I've been so busy trying to fix my DH's samsung that my Amaze was put on hold

S-off from GB
I am just trying to find out if anyone has been able to successfully S-off from GB? The reason I ask is because I had bought this phone for my wife not realising that the previous owner never updated it. I went ahead and unlocked, rooted, and installed a custom recovery but after doing that I could not use the OTA to get it running ICS.
I was trying to S-off with speaker wire while using the GB file's but just cant seem to get it to take. It just keeps failing or freezes trying to find the device. After reading a lot I guess I am going to try an insulated paper clip to see if that would resolve my problems.
If anyone has any input I would really appreciate it.
My next plan is to just try and flash one of the RUU files from recovery but I know that I cant do that with the PH85IMG files and because I am not S-off I cant use the ICS files to do that.
If anyone has ran into something similar and managed to get through it I am all ears!
Thanks a lot
I s-offed from GB. Then I flashed the ICS RUU with success.

I was in a similar situation to you, although I had updated to ICS previously; I was stuck on a custom ROM and did not have S-off.
My advice would be, if you can't get stock GB installed; to try and flash a custom ROM that is based on stock GB and then try to S-off. I managed to get S-Off using a custom ICS ROM that was based on stock.
Good luck.
Thank you both for replying. Well I was just wondering if the GB S-off was broken or if there was something I may have missed. I have used this method on 2 sensations so I do understand how to do it. I just seem to be having a lot of trouble with the wire-trick for some reason on this phone.
I am going to try the insulated paperclip first then if that just dosent seem to get s-off then I will see if I can flash a different rom. I am not sure what to look for exactly. I am just wanting the ICS firmware installed.
My ultimate goal is to get s-off to flash some of the ICS roms. I know there are some that should help with the battery life, and that is what she is really needing.
Thanks again
Try try again until successful.

Nothing in our forums actually needs s-off as of right now except kernels, but if you use 4ext with smart flash enabled you don't even need that. Everything that says you need s-off is just the dev saying they wont support your issues if you don't have it, as s-off means there's nothing preventing it from flashing properly.

Some more info would be useful, like what your Hboot version is and whether you're S-on or S-off. What recovery are you running, and what version? Also, what exactly do you mean by "bricked"?
Also, exactly how did you go about trying to install MeanBean?
Sorry I didn't have the phone with me
Ok well I'm getting the hboot version soon but it's running twrp and I'll get the version of twrp later..
Its s-on
Its soft bricked.. Friend was trying to install a s off rom on the phone and now the phone doesn't boot.
It will load the htc logo then go into a black screen..
I'm waiting for his hboot version but in the mean while
I would place the rom zips in a sd car and try flashing them and they would fail.
I'm asking for a nandroid backup since I fixed a htc one sv 4.1.2 from boost that way and I believe I can fix this htc evo 4g LTE the same
Once I have his full bootloader info I will load it up. He's a teacher at a middle school so hopefully he Reply soon
Thank you for your patience

No worries. Just an FYI, there is no such thing as a "S-on" or "S-off" ROM. Some ROM's have a kernel installer to facilitate flashing while S-on, others don't. Being S-on requires an extra step or two, but the ROM can be flashed regardless. Hit the link in my sig for more info.
what do you think may be the prob

Follow my directions exactly. Also, prior to flashing, go to the wipe menu and choose "Advanced Wipe". Check the boxes for cache, Dalvik cache, data and system, then wipe. Then follow my directions for flashing MeanBean. Report back and let me know how it goes.
Will try soon. Thanks
