1) What differences are there in the hardware between the Xperia S (LT26i) and Xperia SL (LT26ii) other than CPU speed? (1.5 vs 1.7GHz)
In comparing the specs on GSMArena, that seems to be the only known hardware difference.
2) If the only difference is CPU speed, is it likely that it would be as simple as altering a device ID string somewhere for one model to be recognised as the other by (eg: ) PC Companion?
3) If this sort of minor differentiation has ever been done by any manufacturer... presumably that would be a good basis for extrapolation...
Did they from that point release one update that covered both models, or are separate updates more likely?
As far as I know, the LT26ii isn't in stores yet and I haven't seen any teardowns. I'm expecting to have to wait a while for some of these answers
1) Likely minor changes, same board
2) Crossflashing with flashtool should be possible, not sure about PCC
3) Just a spec bump for the people who want a new device. Think version 1.01 not 2. All fujis will get updates with an interval of about a week, just like all montblancs.

John Cooper, UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, has been taking questions from customers on Facebook and, perhaps inadvertently, revealed that both the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro will not receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
We have been waiting for Sony to make an official statement on their Jelly Bean upgrade plans and this is the first concrete news we have on the matter. The Xperia arc S was the highest specced 2011 Sony Xperia handset, so if this handset isn’t getting it we can conclude that none of the other Xperia handsets from the 2011 range will get the update either. However, the 2012 Xperia range do look likely to get the update, although timing remains an unknown right now.
Its funny that many of the 2012 Xperia handsets have lower specs than the 2011 models. It sux! anw, we can hope for a developer to port JB for 2011 Xperia lineup. & Cynomod10 is coming with JB

Hello again.
I want to ask, do anybody understand how Sony number their firmwares?
Let's see.
For Xperia Ray we have 4.1.B.0.587.
For Xperia S we have 6.1.A.2.50
The last number is a build version I think. The number left to it is like a...I don't have any clue, really, but this is somehow connected with the build number. Maybe after fixing major bugs they increase it. Who knows?
Then we have A and B, and what is it - I don't have any freaking clue, really. No ideas.
The second number is corresponding to Android version - 0 for GB, 1 for ICS, and I suppose it will be 2 for JB.
But then comes the first number, and it's a real mess.
At first I thought it's a number of Sony UI version
Like, see, 6 is greater than 4, and compare ICS interfaces in Xperia Ray and Xperia S. Yeah, in Xperia S interface has more features, so my guess was it was a version of Sony UI. Then Xperia T rolled out, and it has 7.1.something. Makes sense, as Xperia T has small apps and new features in Sony apps, but Xperia S don't. 7 is greater than 6, so it makes sense again.
But let's look at Xperia J! The UI is again like in Xperia Ray. But, let's see, which FW number it has...11.0.A.3.18?! What the...? UI version number is greater than the Xperia T, but the UI itself is downgraded compared to Xperia T? HOW?
So, now I don't have any clue about how their numbering works. Can anyone explain me please?

The first number is the eDream Version thats why the JB build number is 9.1.X.X.X > eDream 9.

Its actually a method adopted by Sony to help their customers.
If you have an Xperia ray, running on 2.3 that is 4.0.2.A.0.42 or .62, after ICS upgrade it becomes 4.1.B.0.587. The build nos. help them recognize what the bugs of that particular firmware are.
As per the first digit, it ran from 2.1.1.A.0.53 in Xperia 2011 devices, to 11.0.A.0.something, in the Xperia Z. The more latest the device is, the larger the first digit of the build number is.
Hope I have helped.
Please press the Thanks button.
Yes, This is a question but for comparation phones and I think it belogs here. If not, mods please move it
I'm buying ZTE GRAND X IN next week and I want to ask you what you think about it. Spec here
I might switch to it and give lww to my dad or vice versa if it receive JB. I read that it will get in March 2013 (this month)
So, what do you think. According to unboxing videos it has AOSP UI which I like it
Edit: And how about Xperia J? Same spec like our phones with planned JB update
xperia j doesnt have same specs
our phones are better
but zte is better

Why do you want the official jb? You could very easily use custom fw. if the phone has better specs, it will be smooth too.

If I can do it, I will done that with my LwW. I have locked bootloader and 90% I'm sure this phones will be locked too.
Ok. There isn't any jb rom for locked right?
Btw, you could try wotan server, (I know it's not free, but considering you have two phones with un-unlockable bootloader)
Back on topic, I would go with zte as j specs are almost like ours, except the jb part. (Heard zte was better.)

Jb roms couldn't run on locked bootloader coz sony didn't released any official kernel, rom or sources for jb for our phones and will never do it. So we need custom kernels for jb which obviously need an unlocked bootloader.
Press THANKS if I helped,
Best Regards,

Dont miss the ICON FARM!
Well, there is not even Z for ZTE GXIN and J anroid development forum is not that rich like this :/ I'll buy it but I'm not sure if I or my dad will use it
I don't know if this is bad news but ZTE Grand x In have x86 processor instead of ARM and some apps might be not compatible with it.

Hello!According to my observation,note3,s4,lg g2,htc one have updated version4.4,but sony z1 and z ultra haven't.Why?SONY has fallen behind.Although,z ultra has many 4.4 ROMs,they are native andriod ROMs,which hasn't unique places.
According to me, it should happen after the announcement of Z2 (Sirius) at the upcoming MWC

Let them take their time, maybe they'll make the update worth the wait. In the meanwhile, enjoy AOKP 4.4
Hello i like to know whether any Game lags on the Z2 and when will Z2 GPU become obsolete sort of?
I want to buy a used z2 or m4 aqua. M4 aqua white really makes me love it.
I know the m4 heats and games lag on it.
So what should i buy OLD z2 or brand new M4 aqua?
I hope the device wont break for atleast 1 year as well.

if I were you I'd buy the Z2 because it had better specs, and maybe it'll have longer update support than M4, because it's a Z series flagship model. but if you like the white M4, then buy a white Z3, it has the same specs as Z2, and has similar housing to M4. the Z2, Z3 have 3gb ram, the M4 have just 2gb, so the Z2 and Z3 are faster than M4, and they also have bigger battery than M4.
Thanks for the reply.
Hello does any game lags on the Z2? I mean it has a 2 year old GPU?
Is there anything i should know when buying an Old Z2?

2 year old Z2 is a better than newer phones. It was a flagship phone bro, with a big LED and big 3200 mAh battery and 3gb RAM. The only department were the Z2 suffers is from only 16gb internal memory.
So another question will the xperia Z2 and xperia Z3 get android N in 2017?

I think they will get it. They're flagship models and Z2 is just a 1 and half year old model. The Z get updates as a 2 and half years model
