Noob question probably with a simple answer but i am a little confused so i'll ask.
I recently rooted my S3 and flashed the latest omega rom and siyah kernel, all is good for now.
I am on Android version 4.0.4, my question is when Jelly Bean is released and i want to update to it how do i go about it? Do i need to flash stock rom/firmware and upgrade via kies/OTA?
If i flash a Jelly Bean rom just now will my android version change to 4.1 or will i just have the jelly bean rom running on ICS
If someone could please explain it would be much appreciated, thanks.
U need 2 flash stock/official rom to get OTA updates from Samsung.
And if u flash Jelly beans then it wont be running upon ICS.
Ur version will change to 4.1 if u flash JB
Custom rom will also be JB based .

When jb is released you just download the firmware from sammobile.com and flash with odin. No need to go back to stock.

I rooted my Galaxy S3 the other day with the intention of installing one of the JB rom's out there. I thought as my S3 was not locked that the official JB update would be a little way off yet. Yesterday I find the official JB being pushed to my phone. It went through the update process and then said it could not update because my phone had been modified. I checked the rom version and it is now 4.1.1 so it seems to have actually updated everything apart from the interface which is still ICS.
Is there a way to get around this? If I do a factory reset will that wipe the root? Or can I do something to hide the root from the update?
All advice much appreciated.

Thanks for that. didn't realise the interfaces were the same. Was expecting a bit of a facelift but then I guess it's what's under the hood that counts.
It did say it couldn't update the software because the phone was modified so I am wondering what, if anything I am missing.
One thing I did notice pretty much straight away was the battery seems to be running down quicker. Could be my imagination of course but I will test it over the next few days to be certain.
flash any stock Rom and change csc

Rooting will not stop you from updating OTA through KIES. It wont update through direct OTA.
Update via Kies or download the DLJ4 and flash with odin. You will have the same result

Hi,
i have recently noticed the new jellybean leak and im interested in rooting my s2 which is the Vodafone Kernel 3.0.15-1056085 - Build number imm76d.bulpg. I can find numerous tutorials how to root ones with a different build number. But i cannot find anything on the BULPG 4.0.4 build.
Wil the steps for the 4.0.3 work?
Thank you
You don't need to root if you're flashing the JB leaked update.
You just need to know how to comprehend the English language, learn how to use the search feature or read the S2 forums and have a big enough set of balls to flash it using Odin.

Briliant,
So the I9300XXLSJ Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Test firmware for the Galaxy S II. I9100XXLSJ will work OK although my build number is different?
I have not done any rooting for a few years since my HTC Hero so ive lost track of all the roms and releases.
Thank you. :good:
If you do want to root then download Siyah kernel (TAR not CWM) and flash the TAR file using Odin. Then the world is your Chinese knock off pearl factory.

Hello, please, is it possible to download another country's official firmware from Sammobile and install on my Galaxy SII? Will I also be able to get official updates (like jelly bean 4.1.2) and install them in my country whenever updates are available in that country since i'm using that country's firmware?
I am still stocked with Android 2.3.5 and I really need to upgrade it to Android 4.0.4.
If it is possible to do so, please recommend a country from sammobile.com that I should download and install the firmware (preferably android 4.0.4) to my Galaxy SII. Thanks a lot.

try Kies for an update. Almost all countries have been upgraded to 4.0.3. and please don't install 4.0.4 it has got a super brickbug.
First of all, I really appreciate your quick response and advice.
When I used to try and update via Kies it tells me I'm using the latest update + I live in Nigeria and the latest update for Galaxy SII in Nigeria on Sammobile is android 2.3.5.
I recently upgraded my phone to the unofficial Galaxy SII's jelly bean, after I noticed a few irritating bugs, I decided to switch back to my stock 2.3.5. But there is one problem though, the baseband version is still I9100XXLS6 (the unofficial jelly bean baseband version), therefore, my Kies application cannot recognise it, it always says " Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies" when I connect it to Kies. How can I change it back to the original baseband version to be able to use Kies?
There are pictures to confirm this. Thanks

those few irritating bugs have been fixed by different developers, you can try a rom based on XXLSJ, which have these bugs fixed. Or you can even try Siyah Kernel v6 http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
How did you reverted back to Gingerbread. The correct is, Flash Official firmware download from www.sammobile.com with ODIN.
I reverted back to gingerbread using the backup I made previously before updating to the unofficial jelly bean. The backup still has the correct baseband, but I don't know why the unofficial jelly bean baseband version is still here. Do you think downloading and installing that from Sammobile will solve the baseband version issue? Thanks

yes, flashing with ODIN will fix it, but it will wipe your current OS. Or else just flash your pervious modem with ODIN or through CWM.
Ok. Is it advisable to download another country's firmware? For instance one of India's Android 4.0.3 since you said 4.0.4 has issues that might cause break. Thanks

yes you can install 4.0.3 from any country. Just change the CSC with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manniakk.cscselector&hl=en

Hi, I downloaded the official Android 2.3.5 (I9100XWKJ1_I9100OJVKJ1_I9100XXKI4_HOME.tar.md5 and SS_DL.dll) from Sammobile. It's quite different from the usual CODE, CSC and MODEM files from other firmwares. Please, how can i install this on my Galaxy SII using Odin? I've searched the web for that but all I saw was how to install the leaked version of Android 2.3.5.
NB: I downloaded that of Nigeria. Thanks

hi ,
i wanna downgrade the 4.2.1 firmware jelly bean rooted in 4.0.4 ice cream, but is a problem i have the XXELKC and i don't find the 4.0.4 firmware for this kind of baseband , shall i install the 4.0.4 I9300XXBLH1 baseband ? it will work if i chose another stock firmware with a different baseband id ?
many thanks,
g00dness
You could flash some standard stock rom and then flash your baseband from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740061 (its there). Or if the 4.0.4 rom is the stock rom of your carrier, there is absolutely no problem with flashing that
Just by curiosity, why do you want to do that?
You can surely find your carrier firmware at sammobile.com

You are officially the least helpful person on here.
On topic : If you want a particular baseband, just flash the rom you want and then flash whatever baseband you'd like from within cwm
