Questions for newbie. Unlocking BL - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hai. After 4 months I decide to Unlock Bootloader in my SE Lww (WT19i). But i`m still afraid. Can U answer my questions?
1. Is it possible to brick phone after bad unlocking BL? I`m going to unlock by this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
2. Can I unbrick phone after bad unlocking bootloader and how I can do it ?:fingers-crossed:

Yes you can unlock your bootloader successfuly with this application. You will have to provide you IMEI no minus the last no. There will be no problem unless you pull out the cable or do something stupid. After unlocking remember to flash the correct kernel for phone.
Also backup all your data and apps as unlocking the bootloader will require to wipe the /data partition.

Oh really? Thank you. But I have one last question. For example i`m unlocking bootloader and the power will off. What i will have to do. Re-flash soft with flashtool ?

If it boots up without any problem then you won't have to. If it gets stuck then you will have to flash a stock ftf file via flashtool. But mostly it won't. Anyway unlocking just takes about 5-7 seconds. Atleast for me it took that much time.

how to root and bootload

Im new user of Neo..
I red all topics about modding but i still dont understand..
I have SIM unlocked Neo, how i can now to now is it bootloader locked and have I to unlock it or dont?
I updated software with one w client and now is 2.3.4, can I root it directly, is that enough for overclock?
Why I need to change kernel? And what is fastboot?
Can someone explain me in order what i need all to do, I want to get 2.3.4 rooted and overclocked..
2.3.4 is pretty new so I don't think that there is a way to root it directly without unlock the bootloader.
Check this anyway, I haven't tried it yet by the way:

New kernel for 2.3.4 is not relased yet......wait a littlebit.
After that you may overclock.
thanks for answering but i have one more
if I once unlock bootloader, it will be unlocked always, after all flashings or?

Yes. But only if you flashing via fastboot and flashtool and i think OTA is to fine. But i recommend flashtool and thatkind OverWire solutions.

ok thank you
first i have to do now, is to find Alejandrissimo to unlock me bootloader..
Sony Ericsson's site allows you to unlock the BL - free
http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
You need to look around this site a little more before you get too carried away...
I've just unlocked my bootloader but i cant see where is fastboot :S
I reboot phone and boot time is same as before unlocking bl
I think you're seriously confusing things. Fastboot is a PC based, not phone based, utility.
You can root 2.3.4, which is quite easy, but as of yet you cannot overclock as there is no modded Kernel.
Not sure why you want to overclock - you might want to get to use your phone first...

Hello,
If you want to boot into fastboot mode, you need to turn off the phone, and connect it to the computer while pressing the Menu key (bottom right button) . The LED turns blue
Then you will be able to use fastboot
OP already on 2.3.4
I'm not sure OP quite understands what's what...
Hmm i get it, i was watching on youtube some videos about fastboot on htc which starts up for 4 secounds and i think on that xD
i had much SE phones before this one and i know lot of things, but this was confusing me xD i had it on my drown X8 and i like it because phone is smoother and faster... i know that neo is good on typical settings but i want more
Well with 2.3.4 there is no useable overclocking (at the moment) and be careful not to run into the 0% battery problem. you can get 2.3.4 with the bootloader unlocked and also rooted though, which is good enough for now in my opinion. there is so many leds in the neo, red, orange, green, white and blue (correct me if there is more) and blue= fastboot. good luck with your neo
thanks a lot

[METHOD?] Relock the bootloader (unlocked with test point method)

Hey guys.
Two days ago i have flashed back my SK17i to stock rom.
I updated from FOTA.
I didn't know i must relock bootloader before updating from FOTA, so i bricked my phone.
After 2 minutes of deep panic, i've flashed the relock .ftf file, but it won't work on phones unlocked with test point.
So, i found a way to relock bootloader and go back to stock. (On forums i didn't see any guide regarding the method to relock bootloaders unlocked by test point)
I've done in this way:
1) Flashed stock kernel
2) Flash the .ftf relock file
3) With S1Tool hit restore
The phone is now bootloader locked, without losing of DRM!

brov dont really understand dis, please break it down a little bit!
I just registered to confirm this method works. I foolishly allowed a FOTA yesterday and bricked my phone. It was unlocked via testpoint so the relock method didn't work, even though I tried it! I also tried flashing with S1tool with generic firmware and that didn't work. Then just out of curiousity/desperation I clicked on the RESTORE button in S1 and my phone actually started but was now locked again. I re-did the testpoint unlock this morning so now my phones fully updates and working with my SIM of choice.
I don't know if you need to do all the flashing as it may just be the RESTORE that does the trick. I definitely won't be allowing any OTA from now on. Lesson learned!
Just to confirm, so long as I do the update via PCCompanion or SEUS software I wont need to do all this?

If you unlocked your bootloader with test point, no need to flash anything, just press restore button in s1tool.

You can't root on fw .62! You must flash back to .42 (use wotanserver) and then root. After that, update your phone by OTA (on the air update) to .62!
Completely untrue. You can root - read the posts.
In a nutshell, because posters fail to bother to read everything:
Copy Rootxperia.zip to the SD card
Factory reset (don't format the SD card)
Use flashtool or Wotan to install your version of 0.62
Use fastboot to BOOT (not flash) recoveryNeo.img
When CWM boots, install Rootxperia.zip
Done
(CWM in this instance is hot booted, not "installed")

This method works only with unlocked bootloader. By unlocking bootloader you loose warranty and some phones has no unlockable bootloader.
The OP has an unlocked bootloader... according to previous posts. My response reflects that.
Unlocking BL MAY affect your warranty... in practice highly unlikely.
Phones that cannot be unlocked are likely carrier locked which is a whole new moral ballgame. The desire to mess with these is dubious at best. Users intending to modify their phones should have unlocked carrier-free phones.

OTA update brick phones with officially unlocked BL. Since the ones unlocked via test point can use all official tools(PCC, SEUS) I believe they can also use OTA, since their BL's are patched.
Also, how can you accidentally update it?

Some customers with unlocked boot loaders have experienced problems when they are accepting over the air upgrades (FOTA - Firmware upgrade Over The Air). For customers that have unlocked the boot loader, please do not accept any over the air upgrades. For additional information, check out the hints and tips from the community on the XDA forum.

Yes, that is official statement for BL unlocked via official way. Since those phones can't use SEUS or PCC because those programs can realize someone messed with OS, but FOTA is dumb and can't realize that, so she still try that's when Mr. brick comes into town
Unofficially unlocked BL's can use SEUS and PCC so I believe they can also use FOTA. All brick's came from officially unlocked phones. I haven't heard any case where it happen with unofficially unlocked BL.

By my opinoin the easiest way is to unlock the boot loader and then you can do what ever you want..otherwise I would recommand wotan..
everything is possible, almost then, but indeed you cant root 62, but if you downgrade to 42 do this: tick only wiping data & cache with flashtool, restart your phone and then you are on 42 not so hard to do it if you on unlocked bl, but i think thats already explained sorry for that then, but it must work i try it many times on my own phone and lock and unlock my bl to several times, so good luck with it.
Flashing original sony ericsson kernel dont need bl unlocked?
And can anyone upload .42 kernel here in ftf file?
Becouse where iam found its have same size as .62 kernel

Hardware or Software failure

Hello,
I am only user, so no detailed knowledge about Android. But I am able to read instruction, so I've flashed often ROMs and also Kernel without problems.
(BTW - nice forum - and thanks to all developers to give us the chance to modify mobile phone)
Last time after flashing CM7.22 + nAa-Kernel (I flashed without SIM inside) I had no GSM after inserting SIM-Card. All other functions works normally (in Stock-ROM only in flight mode - in normal mode it hangs).
After that I tried several things:
- PC Companion Repair - so flashing Stock ROM
- SEUS flashing Stock Rom
- Bootloader unlock
- Root again
- Other Kernel /ROMs
- Flashing Stock-ROM with bootloader
All time no GSM. Can I do anything else ? Can it be Software failure, or maybe random Hardware failure, happens just when I flashed....?
Has somebody an idea ? Or is it bricked ?
X10 MINI or MINI PRO?
Also, if your deviced was branded (I mean if it has some carrier's label on your phone or apps pre-installed) and supposing you unlock bootloader, the GSM gets disabled. When you flash stock, bootloader gets patched and you have GSM again, I think or you've lost it forever and you need to recover it with
Also please, post in the correct section, this is a Q/A thread.
A known quote from SpyderX
If the simlock certificate specified is SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE, or anything other than NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE, or if you are sure you sim-unlocked your phone using Omnius, jump to step 3.
If the simlock certificate specified is NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE, you can't unlock the bootloader of your phone. If you try, radio capability of your phone will be disabled (this has been reported to be untrue by a number of people who claim to have unlocked bootloader successfully with msm7227_semc.cmd).
Do note that the SIMLOCK certificate doesn't mean that you have/don't have a sim lock on your phone.

In fact, bootloader was never unlocked, it was backdoored patched, thus, when you flash stock the patch is replaced with stock "file" resulting a "bootloader lock".
Your argument is totally invalid. I had unlocked bootloader, flashed back to stock and bootloader was locked, I couldn't flash kernel. So I unlocked again.
I can confirm you are wrong, because I did many tests on bootloader locking/unlocking.
No offence,

I never used FlashTool for bootloader unlocking, always the old traditional way of patching bootlaoder with s1tools.
Unlocking with FlashTool might be the issue. I can't tell how to lock it again, I only know that this is due to FlashTool.

[Q] SK17a - SIM unlock, ICS, Bootloader Unlock

Hi all,
I've read a couple of stickies, and been through quite a bit of threads here at XDA, and I still can't find my answer. I hope that this is the right place for questions, if not, please excuse my ignorance and move it to the correct forum.
Here's my problem:
I have an Xperia Mini Pro (SK17a), locked to Rogers. It's one of the phone models that don't have the ICS upgrade. Perhaps I can blame that on Rogers, but then again, I can blame a lot of things on Rogers. I've been waiting for the ICS upgrade for quite a while, and now I'm just going to take this into my own hands and install a custom rom.
My understanding of this is that unlocking the bootloader will make my life much easier, and it's what I intend to do. The thing is, I'm SIM-locked to that god-awful company Rogers. From my 'research', I've read a bunch of stories and stuff, but nothing that gives me a definite answer. Do I have to have my phone SIM-unlocked to unlock my bootloader? (For either the official SE unlocking service and Test Point method). Will SIM-Unlocking also sever any bonds that connect my phone to Rogers? If that's the case, then I might just be able to update via PC Companion, which I can settle for if it takes less work than unlocking the bootloader.
My efforts in trying to update via FlashTool (and the official ICS .ftf) were futile, resulting in Flashtool giving me an unsatisfactory "ERROR- Error flashing. Aborted", which I think may be because my bootloader is locked, or I'm SIM-locked to Rogers.
(Using the latest version of flashtool)
Currently, my phone is running the latest stock Gingerbread, with root and CWM.
This ties in nicely to my next question, regarding Recoverys.
When I read the thread pertaining to CWM on the Mini Pro, it said that it should only be installed on a stock rom. Would this mean that CWM isn't used with custom roms? I find this to be stupid, as then you wouldn't be able to access the Recovery menu when **** actually turns bad, and you've got to flash a stable rom in a pinch.
That's all for now, thanks in advance.
-Dillon
P.S.
I'm not too much of a noob, so I can understand all of this crazy Android lingo; I've rooted/installed custom roms on my fair share of devices. On the other hand, I'm no pro either.
I know that bumping is generally frowned upon, but I'm doing it in hopes that perhaps somebody that could answer my questions just missed my thread.
Again, my apologies.

Same problem
Man I have the exacttt same problem and doubt as you do, specially about the SIM LOCK, I want ICS on my phone too, I have the same model. Have you gotten any answers?
well you can unlock your boot loader and install custom rom and after unlock you will unable to update through seus or pc companion until you relock the bl. i suggest u to use test point in this way you will not lose drm keys. and if there is a problem in network try different baseband.
Before unlocking bootloader you must remove sim-lock. Basically it comes down on buying sim unlock code.

I had no problems flashing ICS via flash tool on my then locked bootloader, sim locked device, so I'm thinking that's not the problem here.
Make sure you have installed the right drivers for your device, that it has usb debugging activated and that it is configured to msc (usb storage) when flashing.
Also, when I unlocked my bootloader via paid method (alejandrissimo) it also eliminated the sim lock  I think it's part of the process. Anyway, maybe you could explain a little further about the error log you get on flash tool.
Don't forget to click thanks if I helped.
Edit: about cwm, of course you can use it on custom roms, some kernel even have that included. . First you install it on your stock ics and then you get to flash other roms.
