Automotive Home - HTC Amaze 4G

So I recently saw the Automotive Home app from the One S and it's way better than what we have on the Amaze. Now to the question...Is it possible to port this over to Sense 3.6, i have it a go on my amaze to see what happened-cleared cache, dalvik, fixed permissions and of course it did not install. If it is possible to port what would be needed to get it going? I saw this thread but they had no resultshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549877
Would this link be useful in doing the above? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053227
Sorry but i'm definitely a NOOB to this but if the above is a start ill gladly try and get it going.I know there are alternatives but this looks great!

Don't think the above post is necessary. However I might be wrong. Try to just push the app into system / app. It should show up without a problem. Do not try to install it. You might have to play with the permissions.

I tried that and it shows in my app drawer but crashes when I try and load it. I'm thinking that since its from sense 4.0 it may need to be decompiled and worked on. I'm a noob with this kind of stuff so just threw it out there. I'll keep working on it and if I get it working ill post for all.
Live and Die on this day....

Makes sense. I didn't try so I'm not surprised it failed. Might have something to do with the framework difference between 3.6 and 4.0. Theintellgent has a 4.0 rom, might wanna ask him if he knows where to start.

Text Messaging .apk Swap

First, let me say by no means should I be trying any of this, because I don't really know much about how to modify software on Android devices. I've seen the .apk from AOSP taken and used on the Thunderbolt to replace the stock HTC text messaging app. Is there any way possible to take the .apk from some Motorola version of Android to swap in the Motorola text messaging app? That was by far the best looking messaging app in my opinion. I've tried simple .apk swaps and that doesn't do it. I'm just trying to figure out if its even possible or is it to entangled in the Blur b/s for me to even ask for help?

Not unless you have the software for it. Called backsmali or somethin like that. You could try posting on a dev page and ask for it

Camera.apk and Video.apk

hi guys can any of you pull out camera.apk and video.apk from your ROM.. i would just like to try it if its going to work with MIUI. thanks!
It won't work. That is, if you're trying to get the ones from the Samsung roms. They hook deeply into the touchwiz ui, and therefore won't work. (Not even sure I'd they'll install, let alone show up in your app drawer).

[Q] Share option missing from all apps menu

I recently noticed that the share option was missing from the all apps menu, can anyone please help me restore it? I'm currently using a rooted HTC explorer running android 2.3.5. Please check the screenshot for more info. Thanks!!
Can someone please help me with this?
You mean it hasn't been appearing after the upgrade to 2.3.5 right? Maybe HTC removed it and I don't think people use it that much to be bothered about making a mod for it. If you want to share your apps through Play Store links, try 'MyAppSharer' in Play Store. You can even share apks of apps with this.

Actually i haven't updated my phone. It came bundled with 2.3.5 this bug appeared just a few days ago. Can it be fixed? As for the app, thanks a lot!!
Try this - go to Settings-Applications-Manage apps-All apps, find HTC Sense in the list (if there are more than one, it's the one logo that looks like the home screen and is be a few MB in size). Open that, clear data and press home. It should reset your launcher and app drawer. I don't know if it'll work but try it. Also you *may* need to set your apps and widgets on the various screens again. I haven't used Sense in a long time so I don't remember exactly.

That worked mate thanks a lot!!

[Q] Stock ICS Keyboard on Sense 3.6?

Is it possible to install the AOSP ICS keyboard apk pulled from an AOSP rom and install it onto stock Sense 3.6 and have it fully functioning?
I have my old MyTouch 4G on an AOKP rom and I pulled LatinIME.apk from it. Now I'm just wondering whether this keyboard would function properly on my unrooted stock Amaze.
EDIT: Would I also need LatinIMEDictionaryPack.apk as well?
You can just answer that yourself, try it, if it doesn't work, then voila, question answered, right?

I get an error when opening the .apk. "There is a problem parsing the package." I've gotten this kind of error many times for different apps without understanding what it actually means.
Could someone explain to me what this error means in the context of Android apps?
EDIT: Would it also be possible to try and push the app through ADB?

That's probably because the android version is different, try pulling it from an ICS based rom, for like the sensation since that is similar to your device and give it a shot again before try to push it to the system.

What do you mean the Android version is different? I'm pulling it from an AOKP rom which is ICS based, however it may possibly be the different resolution on the 2 devices. WVGA (MyTouch 4G) vs qHD (Amaze)
I guess I'll just download CM9 for the Sensation and try again.
EDIT: LatinIME.apk from CM9 for the Sensation works like a charm!
I like the stock ICS keyboard as well, compared to sense. You can also download a ICS keyboard straight from the Play store and use it right away.
I am Chinese using Motorola thus I got thousands of chances to play with different roms modified based on the stock. Many would change the ime, but some prefer the original.
I did notice when installing a stock ime update pack from Moto, that not only the Latin.apk is changed, but some other modification will be made in the system layer as well.
I believe it is like the stock browser or Google talk app, that a single file would not work functionally without the other parts related.

Now that I know that the AOSP keyboard works on Sense 3.6 flawlessly, I want to go about putting a full fledged AOSP application onto my Amaze. I want to try putting the AOSP messaging app on, but I do not think it will be as easy as a simple keyboard.
The stock messaging app on the Amaze and the AOSP messaging app on CM9 for the Sensation have the same filename. I'm not sure if I'm right here, but would this indicate that they can't be run side by side with each other?

As I said before, give it a shot, make a backup of your current app by copying it to your sd card or something, then replace it withe AOSP version, since I've noticed that files with the same name usually can't be installed together, even if you rename the other file, but you can give that a shot as well.

The thing about the current app is that it is the stock messaging app which is located under /system which I do not have access to modify as I am not rooted. If I install the AOSP version, it would be installed under /data. I am not sure how they would them interact, assuming that they can be installed side by side.

You're not rooted, therefore your chance of screwing anything up is practically zero.

Guess I can't just install it and hope it would work. Any other means to getting this to work or am I just unable to install it?

From the message it gave you, the only way to get it to work is by replacing the current stock file with that file, but you have to root to do that, .

You can get an apk signing app, that should change it, I'd recommend changing the name as well and keep your fingers crossed that it won't conflict again and well hope it works too.
Is there a reason to make this issue complicated? There are several free ports of the ICS keyboard available in the play store, why not simply install them in addition to the sense keyboard and use it as your primary input?

Think i have trashed my Prime

Hey all used this guide to upgrade stock jellybean,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909819
Worked brilliantly and then got above my skill level when removing some bloatware, normally i copy the apks i remove however this time i pressed delete by mistake, now have huge issues with play store and other apps. I have deleted too many apks
Have tried installing google apks again but still no joy. Does any one know of a way i can install JB again to start afresh i did try downgrading as per the guide but that didnt actually remove the JB firmware. I feel although even with huge amounts of help from flumpster (many thanks) we arnt cracking it so a fresh install is prob best, i just hope someone knows how to.
Thanks in advance.
You may try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916285
This is the full Rom which should add your so called bloatware again.
Before deleting any apps you may first freeze them and see if all goes well without them.
Actually, there is no need to actually delete them. As long as they are frozen or disabled, they won't be active.

Thanks for the help do you know how i can install as i said my prime is stuck on the startup wizard and i cant get past that, it just says setup wizard has stopped and then recycles it. is there a way of installing from Fastboot or ADB bootloader.
Good question. I would just give it a try. Since you are not within a bootloop you may also be able to adb push missing files and start with a maybe functioning device...
