[Q] Unlock in JB - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Well, I'm having a little problem. I installed JB in my galaxy, and I noticed I lost the unlock, after that, I restored EFS and unlocked again. Now, after unlocking (but not restarting) I had no problems, but as soon as I restart the phone, the unlock is gone. I am using AOKP JB from task650 with its default kernel
Thanks!

hmmm. interesting.
GS2 unlock is just a file edit IIRC. So the file is able to be edited, and sticks.. but after a restart it reverts back.
I've heard of a reasoning for this, not this exact problem, but stuff not sticking after reboot. Cant put my finger on it...

You might want to start here:

Not sure if it will help, but he was having a similar issue and found a solution. Also maybe you want to check the thread for the ROM you are using to check if anyone had similar problems.

Well, I checked out the thread, I can unlock it when I'm on ICS, but when I flash to JB I loose the unlock. However, he unlocked on GB and then upgraded to ICS, I could try that out later but I dont't think it'll make any difference..
Thanks!

Have you checked the aokp jb thread to see if anyone is having a similar problem?
Also, did you try just calling AT&T for the unlock code? in my previous job i used to travel frequently. Every time i got a new phone i called at&t, explained that i travel abroad very often and needed to unlock my phone to use local carriers in the places i travelled to. The gave me the code every time with no problems. I would assume the unlock code they give you would work regardless of what rom you have installed?

I've flashed 99% of available roms and kernels and have never lost my unlock.

Well, just flashed Súper Nexus, the unlock is working.
Thanks!

No signal what so ever

Just got my new atrix all sorted out as far as unlock BL install CWM and Jokersax CM9 ROM. However, once booted into the ROM I have no signal whatsoever. Phone was initially locked to BELL so i inserted Rogers SIM to attempt unlock (after installing custom ROM) and nothing happens. Go into APN and there is nothing. Attempt to manually enter APN, but it never saves??
Anyone have any thoughts? Similar issues for others with this ROM or is it something else entirely?
Any help is appreciated.

I have an imei# because I used it to purchase an unlock code. Wondering maybe I'd I nerd to flash a radio?
Something about the phone was that there was only like 1gig available out of 10.89gig. So I formatted internal storage. Not sure if maybe I shouldn't have done that or not.
Anyway I'll start searching for how-to on radio flashing I suppose. Anyone point me in the right direction. Best radio for Canada etc.?

Im on the latest 0.6.0 I just put the previous version on a buddies Atrix and it works fine. Also from Bell. I should at least have signal for phone right? Also it is strange to me that the phone does not prompt me for an unlock code?? Is it because I flashed a custom ROM before unlocking? And it yes, how do I get around it?
Need some guidance here.

Well if you installed the previous version, you shouldn't get signals as joker forgot to add some stuff. Make sure your on 0.6 and not the previous version.
If that doesn't work out you can try flashing a radio or flash another rom.

[Q] Check For Update issue after root

hello all,
i have followed entropy512's thread here to get my at&t samsung galaxy s2 rooted with stock settings...i then wanted clockworkmod recovery so i went to this and followed directions to get everything installed...everything was ok and working until a few weeks ago when the 'Check Update' option under Setting stopped working...
basically what happens is when i goto Settings-> Software Update->Check for updates->Hit OK (Check the AT&T server for new software update?) a dialog comes up that says 'Checking for software updates...' and nothing happens...i have left the phone over night with device management app checking for software updates... when this used to work, it took less than 1 minute to check...
finally, the only way for me to stop this is to go and force stop Device Manager under Applications->All, so before i restore the phone to factory, i was wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue here?
Thanks,
FI

OTA updates require factory recovery. I'm a bit hazy on the details but I believe CWM, in short, replaces that.
It might also be because you either turned off/uninstalled or inadvertently removed factory bloatware.

This. Amongst other things. If u insist on trying to eventually upgrade to whatever crap gets pushed out to us yer best bet is to do a full wipe to completely stock firmware.

once again, the issue is not weather i should worry about updates or not nor did i search for if i should worry about updates...this option was working and something happened that caused it to stop working...and my searches i did was around getting device management to connect to the dm server (which is where the 'Checking for update' got stuck)

both of you seem to be spot on...i didnt realize that removing bloatware which was marked as 'ok to remove' on the document of things to remove safely could have been the issue...initially i had frozen them using titanium...neway i restored the phone using the CWM backup i had and the option started working like expected...thanks for the input

Do you recall all the issues with UCKK6 Gingerbread? That was an AT&T release. The devs had to tear it apart to debug and try to fix it. Any build will have bugs in it. But generally, custom firmwares will have fewer bugs than AT&T firmware.

if my research that i conducted a while ago is right, then basically samsung has implemented a flash counter which increments each time you flash a custom, non-stock rom...it might also be applied to non-stock kernels/firmwares as well (im not too sure)...so to prevent the flash counter from ever incrementing, ill need to put the phone in download mode using the jig and continue from there...

This is wrong. It is only incremented when you use ODIN to flash nonstock items. CWM has no bearing on flash counters.

You have some bad information...but I have some good news for you.
The flash counter only counts the number of times you've flashed a custom kernel in download mode via Odin. Using CWM to flash anything can't touch the flash counter. Same goes for Mobile Odin. I've been rooted and flashing for months, I don't have a jig, and my counter is still at zero.

Any GB issues only surfaced if you updated to 2.3.6. 2.3.4 for a "stock" firmware was pretty awesome. I'm on the latest ICS leak from ATT (LD4) and aside from the emmc bug (I'm using a safe kernel so I don't have it) IMHO its more complete then CM9 was. I stopped using CM9 at the end of May and don't miss it at all now.

I reccomend roms that use i9100 bases as they are usually better, roms like phonebricker, and shostock2 are good, my favorite touchwiz based rom though is serendipity 9. But thats my experiences so try them for yourself (i use aokp as my daily though.)

Total noob in regards to Sony and customizing

I'm not sure where to start in regards to Sony.
I myself have a Galaxy S2 and read the Bible there and got great advice/suggestions in the forums, but the Sony bit has me confused.
I have an old Xperia X10a sitting collecting dust (it's about 2-3 years old now) and since a relative wants to get a smartphone and an Android more specifically, I thought this would be perfect for her, in case she were to mishandle it or lose it.
So first, I have to unlock the phone.
Then what I'm confused about is this so called "bootloader", is this something I need to worry about or not?
So unlock phone, then, what?
Thanks in advance.
Meant to put this in Q&A, sorry Mods.

You don't need to unlock the bootloader. just follow this thread that root it, install the Xrecovery(0.3) and flash donutHD 2.2.9 and you never have to worry about anything else. Or and unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with sim unlocking to work on different network.
So tell me how it went and ask any questions.

Lol flashing is hard for this phone e compared to others. Half the time the kernels don't flash because there's only two files in it instead of a lot for the loader.bin. like the othernight I flashed a kernal and wifi was broke and the phone was stuck sideways. Its different and I understand I'm in the same boat. Took me almost 13 hours to get this thing to stay rooted and unlocked. Used superoneclick to root and everything said I was except the flashtool lol.

All kernels that I tested was flashed with no problems. the .bin files aren't problem. All kernels which I had worked as they should. Wifi was not broken, and if it was broken, theres an update package to fix this, or you can ask in thread whats the problem that wifi is not running. ...... well sry man but I havent got problems with rooting or flashing. I think this phone is the easy task not the hard one.

I agree with harviak.. I had only one issue till now n that was when I was a complete noob and hadn't followed the steps correctly. I got it workin myself after that. So don't get scared of customizing.
Btw if ur cousin is on a different network and ur x10a is locked to a certain network then the bootloader has ntn to do with what u need. U need to remove the simlock. Look for an appropriate guide here on xda
And if u feel interested in putting in a custom ROM unlock ur bootloader (look for a thread called flashtool and check out the guides there)

[Q] SGS2 4.2.2 and 4.2.1 CARRIER LOCKING ITSELF!!

Well i´ve got a GT-9100, aka, international SGS2. Well after flashing one of the latest nightlies of CM10.1, when I inserted my PIN code, it told me to enter my network unlock code, but my phone has been Carrier unlocked since a year ago, and unlocked by imei code. So I thought.. WTF? I started to look on the internets and i oung a post on the cyanogen forums I thing it was, were there were a lot of people complaining because their SGS2´s had been Carrier LOCKED by those nightlies. I recovered my carrier unlock by flashing a /EFS backup I had from a lot of time ago, but I cant use 4.2.2 or the latest 4.2.1 because it keeps king of reseting my EFS!! And even if I flash the good copy of my EFS, if im still on 4.2.2, it resets it on every reboot!!. I dont know if this is a problem with all the 4.2.2 roms, since Ive also tried AOKP JB MR1 Build 5 and 4, and still the same problem. So it might be a problem with the AOSP itself.
Anyone know a way to use 4.2.2 and not have this carrier lock problem??
Any ideas at all??
I can still use older versions such as older 4.2.1´s and my carrier is fine again. WTF
Make another EFS back up with 3rd party tools like hc ktool and / or galaxy s unlock.

Ive already got a EFS backup, whats happening is that with 4.2.2 versions, the unlocked SGS2´s are being carrier locked again. And even if you restore your good EFS on 4.2.2, after every reboot, it resets itself saying its carrier locked again.
I know you already have a back up, I suggested you do a couple of additional back ups with 3rd party apps.

It looks like my phone was only PARTIALLY unlocked, wich i dont know what it means, and on 4.2.2 roms, partially unlocked phones are relocked again dont know why :S. So just fully unlock your phone using some unlock app on the market.

Nice, I saw that post but they seemed without any difference that I can perceive from just watching their different names... :S
UCKH7
UCKJ4
UCKJ1
...
ETC
Which one is the best to use?
They are pulled from official releases, and leaks of I777 firmware. From oldest to newest, the official releases are
UCKH7
UCKK6
UCLE5
UCLL6
UCMD8
Different phones and different geographic areas respond differently, so you just have to experiment by flashing them in succession, and trying out for a few days. You might start with UCMD8 as it is the latest, and many have reported very good results with it.

Is it asking for you to enter the pin?. If so you can log into your att account and get the pin for your phone from there. I was nosing around on mine yesterday and saw that option. But it did say if your sim is locked (10 failed tries) you will have to purchase a new sim card from them.
