Question regarding I717 and N7003 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi I live in Hong Kong and recently Samsung released N7005 in Hong Kong which have the exact same specification as I717 except LTE running 1800/2600 instead. Do anyone know if I can use the I717 rom? The stock ICS 4.0.4 is really draining battery and I am hoping I can upgrade to Jellybean to solve the problem.
Thanks.

NOoo! They are not the same, that's why they have different model numbers.
If you flash a rom from a different model you will hard brick your phone. And same specifications doesn't make them the same.

Ranger is correct ...
"DO NOT" flash any of the roms to that device .....
It would brick instantly ....g

Here is a partition listing from the i717. If yours is the same you may be in luck.
I would just unzip the ROM you would like, and verify the partitions being updated are correct.

You mentioned different radio bands which indicates a different radio chip ...
And I'm certain other chips are different also ...g

This advice is insane.
@zonyl, why don't you flash the N7003 rom on your phone and prove you're right?

Agreed.
iPhones have the same specs as our phone because they have to work on the network. That surely doesn't make them the same as our note.

Could it be I actually know what I'm talking about?
Prove you are correct by flashing a rom from another model phone. I'll be waiting here with the contact information for the JTAG repair.

Zonyl,
I believe that ranger is correct .
And while it "might " be possible to get a rom functioning on the device, an immediate problem presents itself . The first being a compatible modem.
We dont have one. And second, the kernel image. Again we don't have one. And attempting to flash "any " current version of either one would lock up the device, and brick it.
It isn't that we aren't willing to try, it is a simple fact that the device in question has incompatible hardware, and we cannot tell users to flash based on specifications alone.
The model numbers are very different, and the radio interface chip as well.
I'm sorry for my short attitude toward the OP, but I am simply preventing what I know will happen ....a brick .....g

no problem...good job k,

Short answer......... No......... re-purposing a band from 1800 to say 1700 poses alot of different issues... The biggest problem is that even when you get everything technically correct, there are micro ground-plane issues that eventually make the modem go out of whack (sorry for the simpleton answer) and even when it works it will remain buggy, the other things that will need to be changed are a recipe for bricking... So no......... BTW, I was successful in the modem modifying on the ATT NOTE using on to TMO system. Only major problem was it would cause a FC on the modem and drop calls..... so even with knowledge it is a gamble at best.

When you say "modem modifying" do you mean flashing another modem or do you mean rewriting the mdm.bin file?
The 1700 band isn't exactly 1700 - its like 1650 to 1750 likewise the 1800 is 1750 to 1850, so t-mobile works with this phone due to the marginal touching of the bands. Its inconsistant at best.

[Q] Just bought a Motorola Atrix 4G, however...

Hi guys,
I just bought a Motorola Atrix 4G from Ebay. However I was wondering, what ROM should I use, since I live in the Netherlands?
I already noticed a few roms here, however, since I live in the Netherlands, I want to know which one I should use for the best performance within my country.
Can someone please advice me?
Thank you very much.

Sorry I forgot to mention it's the cell phone from AT&T carrier. I already know where to unluck it, thanks to this forum!
I am really sorry if this is a dumb question, but I couldn't find anything on it on the forums for Dutch people. :S
You're welcome.

I apologize for Shaydar. That is an incredibly rude comment to make for absolutely no reason.
Make sure the ROMs are compatible with your network. I know that Canadian users were warned to avoid using certain ROMs at first.
However, I no longer own an Atrix, so you might need to some more research on the subject.

No problem, luckily there are some more decent folk around here. Oh well, I guess on every forum their are a few a..........
I never heard of a provider blocking a ROMs overhere in the Netherlands. But then again we are allowed a lot of stuff overhere, legalised soft drugs, red light district and so on. So I doubt it will going to block a custom ROM, but of course you never know.
So the ROMs, depending they aren't blocked, do work without problems with other countries, right? As a matter of fact, it doesn't matter what or who's ROM it is, the ROM itself doesn't provide the connection (phone/data/gps). Right?
Sorry if I misunderstood. Oh well; even if someone said it wouldn't work, it doesn't matter that much anymore, since the phone will arrive here within 2 days.
By the way, you returned the Atrix 4G? Didn't you like the phone or was there another reason?
I believe Canadian Atrix users have to use certain ROMs due to hardware compatibility. I'm no expert in Canadian Atrii but they've been waiting until very recently for an SPL that's compatible with their phones so I assume it's either compatibility between the ROM and the phone hardware (bootloader maybe?) or between the ROM and the network.
Sorry if I sounded rude.
All roms are just original firmware with skin and some mods.
Guess the guy sold his cell cause the bootloader was locked and some things like the real 4G, 1080p recording, and gingerbread are not yet available for the phone.
I am from france and all the roms avaible on this forum worked fine.
Got a preference for GreyBlur.
Enjoy your Atrix when you got it.
Mine cost me 425€ all costs in.

Okay thanks. After doing some researching I will be going to use the GladiAtrix2v4.2.3 (not themed) version.
Let's hope I manage to get it working properly.
On a sidenote; my phone didn't arrive yet.
One thing: don't be surprised when you don't see the earphones in the package.
At&T just don't provide them.... But there's a HDMI wire.... Weird choice...
And plug your phone to the wall-charger if it doesen't seem to boot.

Ah okay... I don't care much about earphones, though other people might. But thanks for the information.
Also thanks for the extra pointer regarding the wall-charger.
Darn... I also wanted to order the Motorola vehicle dock including rapid charger, but it seems they don't have that overhere yet or in my neighbouring countries. :S
Cleaned the thread, back on topic.
Simple question; is there a way to disable those annoying messages about updates?
I rooted and installed gladiatrix and it has been working perfectly since then. However I am not getting messages about installing an update (4.1.83.en.US).
I select "Install later" every time, however after 3 hours it's back and it's getting annoying. Or is the update safe to use on a rooted gladiatrix phone? If not, how can I disable these messages completely?

[Q] Will any of the Samsung Galaxy s2 roms work on the LTE version

I was about to get the SGS2 LTE and plan to flash it soon after getting it.. however I noticed all roms are currently made for the original 4g model.
I am not an expert but I know what I am doing for the most part (being an HD2 owner for 2 years). there are two issues I see... sorry, in advance, for the lingo i use
1) the LTE has 4 soft buttons in the front (like the infuse).. whereas the original has a hard button in the front. which means "Base rom" would be different, no?
2) I don't this is a big problem but ill ask any ways... All current roms are made for 4G so will that mean that the phone will only work on 4g, assuming the button problem is resolved?
If there is another thread that will answer this please let me know and ill remove this thread. I just could find anything. I clicked search thread, but only threads regarding random discussion about the lte version pop up.
Lol the LTE model hasn't been released yet... Sooooo yeah.

[Q] Korean version?

I've had my eye on the Galaxy SII for a while now.
I live in China, where there are several versions for sale, one of which is the Korean version (with antenna).
The Korean version is significantly cheaper than the "normal" version, so I might go for that one.
Should I expect any difference with other versions? I plan to root the device as soon as I get my hands on it.
Thanks.

I don't see how that will help answer my question. The outside just looks normal, but with a tiny extendable antenna on the right corner of the phone.
The model number on it is?
If its one of the following
M250S / M250K / M250L
you are good to go as they are compatible with the international ROMs you might loose the functionality of TV antenna on those ROMs though, also refer to the Korean thread in the General section for more info.

Do you mean I can just flash any custom ROM I want with full functionality? (except, of course, the TV).

Yes. I'm in Mongolia, and I bought a Korean Galaxy S2. You can essentially flash it so that it thinks it is an international version. The only thing that won't work is the radio/tv tuner. You'll be fine, and you'll save money on it. I say go for it. Luckily, unlike the Galaxy Note, the S2 is a device where Korean and International versions are nearly identical.

Just be aware that depending on which model you actually get, some firmwares in the i9100 forums will not work for you, and may in fact brick the device. Do your due diligence with research before flashing any firmwares or kernels.

S-Voice for Galaxy S II

Hi, I have searched for an answer and haven't had any luck. I know that the latest S-Voice App supposedly can't be installed on something other than a device running ICS. Found Here: http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-s-ii/
However, I can't seem to get it to work. It keeps giving me an error: There is a problem parsing the package.
I'm guessing I can't install it because I'm not running ICS. Can anyone confirm this? as it has been mentioned, that it does work. Found Here: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/samsung-s-voice-ripped-for-the-world-to-enjoy/

OP, you realize that as a T-mobile USA user, who owns an SGH-T989, you are actually in the wrong forum for your device, right? (I've also noticed you've posted in the Epic 4G Touch forums as well...)
I've already tried to tell you once that you're posting in the wrong forums. I guess it's up to you to realize what you're doing.
I'm not saying it as a matter of you're not allowed to post here, but if you request ports, mods, firmwares or kernels, and you post in a device forum that ISN'T yours, people will link you to solutions that will NOT work for your phone, and in all likelihood cause you no shortage of headaches if you decide to follow their instructions or install stuff they link you to.

Thanks for the reply, this is a nice guide, but i already rooted the phone, thing is, i want to use a custom rom, and there is no forums for the SGH-I747M or whatever, so im wondering if the I9300 roms/kernels work for it
Sorry not sure if this helps you, but there are other S3 forums.
I would think the telus/bell/rogers devices are more similar to the AT&T version, as it is also designated a similar model number SCH-I747.
Link to the other forums here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1667
According to www.pdadb.net your i747 is similar to AT&T's S3 http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3602&c=samsung_sgh-i747_galaxy_s_iii_lte
BUT I would recommend you do a lot more research and ask the devs in that section before trying anything. As you will most probably end up messing your phone up in using something incompatible.

I would definitely not use anything meant for the i9300 on your device as it is not hardware compatible, different CPU (quad samsung vs dual qualcomm)
