I searched thread for this and not found quite what i wanted..
Can somebody please explain me or at-least provide me with some links that can teach me how to make a custom ROM (for starters, even if it teaches me how to tweak our stock Sony firmwares) for our Xperia S ?? I was a developer on Symbian and this Xperia S is my first android device so took some time to get used to it..!!
Now wanna try my hands and contribute something to the community !!
Any help would be appreciated
You can try to add what u want to ur rom , edit some bulid.prop lines , add some tweaks , and then back it up and upload like i did

That's what I want to know!! Where do I know what to edit in build.prop, what lines to add??

i have a galaxy ace ( of course), and i want to learn how to make a custom Rom, from scratch if possible,or by modify another one if it's better for begun.
I'm very motivated ( i'm french,but understand english very well), and really wants to learn.

PS: as i have read in a french website: if you want to learn for became programmer, you need to know how to programming... : it's a true quotation i think...
Break learning some parts first
1. Themeing -first of all learn themeing really dude u cant edit a rom if u dont know how to theme or handle apk I will post links to learn in my next post.
2.go to freeyourandroid there u can find how to edit boot.Img and lots of other stuff.learn how to add new apps,scripts and kernels.
3. Learn how to use adb .
4.if u are serious about development then install Ubuntu for advanced stuff.thanx emo for draging me in the world of opensource its amazing.
5.learn making apps.
6.then learn how to create updater script or make a flashable zip file.

All You need is winrar. You use that to open *.mtz files in which is all the stuff You need.
Is there anyone here that has the time to teach an idiot (namely ME ) how to make/edit roms and all that?

Editing a full rom is very hard and time taking....just edit SystemUI and framework-res to change the look and feel of rom. For example see my themes...all made on same rom but works on all phones...link below

Hey guys, i was wondering this, i searched for lots of tuts but i couldn't manage to find one, at least not one updated. I want to add one category to my Settings.apk called PureMIUI Settings, and inside one, i want to add one thing that says CPU Control, that takes you to No-frills. I am not asking for any of you to grab my .apk and do it, i just need to know if any of you guys knows about a tut for it. Thanks

you need to decompile systemUI.apk and have to edit a xml in it...
I think sandy7 will pm you so I am just giving the brief of what you have to do...

Hi I am an XPERIA Mini Pro sk17i user.I want to bring back the CRT on-off animation back in xperia mini pro running Icecream Sandwich.I have tried that trick which says tweak ink framework-res.apk.But it said to set the 'animatescreenlights' value to off.But it was already off in there.Then too,there is no CRT off animation active.Is there any MOD which can help me to do so.I have rooted phone.Is there any such mod available for this animation which i can flash.I dont want to use any app from playstore. I just want to have this CRT animation inbuilt like it comes with XPERIA Tipo.Also tell me if there is any Custom ROM for my phone which is latest and also has this animation in it.Please help.Thanking you in advance.

You said about modifying surfaceflinger.lib.My bro has XPERIA Tipo.And you also must be knowing(ofcourse)that it too has 320*480 display.So can I take help of his surfaceflinger.lib.His phone is notrooted but mine is.If you can provide me the safe ways to modify the surfacflinger.lib and the ways to procced about,please help.If you can tell me any other source on xda or internet to obtain such surfaceflinger.lib files of xperia tipo(or phones that you think are right),Please tell.

u can modify it...once its compiled from source there is no way to decode it
