So last night, my phone was stolen. Guns a everything. Shots and screams. But we are fine, a little shocked but fine.
So people, I really liked this phone, it never gave me any trouble and I have the chance to buy it again. It was rooted, with ZR3DX as my main ROM with 4ext recovery. Let say I get this phone...my nandroid backups will work? Or, as I fear, they only work with the same phone?
Damn, I recently went through similar situation, ended up having to spend 600$ to replace my Evo LTE.
I have always read not to use them on a different device (same model), but I have seen some people (rarely) day different. I figure better safe than sorry. Wish I could help more. Sorry.

You can try just to restore the data only aslong as it's the same rom

So let say I made a FULL nandroid backup. On the new phone, with the same ROM, can I choose to restore just DATA in the 4ext menu?
Worth a try, at this point you got nothing to lose, flash the rom do an nandroid, then try to restore data, the worst thing that will happen is apps and services will fc, good luck

it is working for me but it is finiky with the back button disable/enable.
seems to def be a bug in his back button logic as once it disables back button from the home menu, no sub menus work until the back button is enabled again.
hope that helps!

Personally, (and I've been through this over and over, and I know that Clockworkmod is like, my freaking "button", but here I go for hopefully the last time) :
CWM has just caused problems for me (maybe not you) on EVERY SINGLE ANDROID DEVICE that I've owned.
The constant updates, (lol, 'working now'), the inherent problems restoring Nandroids from all those versions ('new update, today!'), combined with the fact that AmonRa was always worry-free for me on my OGEvo, just EXACTLY like TWRP has been for me on the 3D. I've been through all these issues w/ Koushik
and he admitted that the issues I experienced with my EVO4G were real problems, and were only recently corrected. The 'every freaking minute' connections to paypal, verifying the "pro" version purchase of Rom Manager got old quick as well.
Once again, or TL;DR:
AmonRa was always ABSOLUTELY worry-free for me, just EXACTLY like TWRP has been for me on the 3D.
*That's reason enough, for me.
(I won't comment about this anymore, I promise...)

Ok so i just ordered my new HTC EVO 3D off ebay since my EVO is officially done, so my question is, after looking through the DEV section ive seen a lot of information on TWRP recovery and im wondering are there other options like with the EVO.
For instance the EVO had TWRP, Amon RA, CWM, ect..
The reason i ask is because ive had a pretty bad experience with TWRP so im reluctant to use it with this phone when i get it.
I used clockwork before I got twrp 2.0

I made a handful of code commits to TWRP at the beginning of the project.. The project was started as Amon RA announce he was "retiring" essentially from updating his recovery to work with EMMC devices.
The EVO 4G was an MTD device so Amon's recovery worked well. The EVO 3D is an EMMC device so Amon's recovery would not work.
Personally, I've had good success with CWM as it is consistent across devices and I haven't had issues with it across the handful of Android devices I've had.
Ultimately, the decision is up to you. I only use the basic features in the recovery, adb shell access from recovery mode, nandroid backup/restore and ability to process a .zip. These three basic features I use are essentially the same or at minimum very similar across the different recoveries.
Different custom recovery's will offer different features, different support and different UI/themes.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
I use clock work mod. Alot of others use Twrp but I rooted my phone with the old revolution method and I have never had any problems with cwm.
I can't get clockwork to stick for some reason. Haven't figured it out yet but twrp is awesome.
I haven't compressed the backups but it's a nice feature that saves space. And I read that 2.0 is crazy fast at backing up and restoring. Took me 1592 seconds to restore the recovery partition tonight. Long ass time.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192077
I tried twrp 2.0 didn't like it, it would quit in the middle of a wiping process and I would have to reboot into recovery again but it does have a touchscreen interface so some might find that useful. I used CWM like somebody else in this thread said it wouldn't stick I had the same problem. My favorite is twrp 1.1.1 never had any problems at all and the best part is you can flash multiple zips all at once. Oh! one more thing. I found out when using CWM wiping davlik cache would sometimes not work.
Twrp is my vote non touch version

I don’t know if anyone has experienced this before but I just rooted my phone and flashed the Sick-Sense VX.1 ROM and for some reason any time I switch the camera to 3d mode I get a green/pink blocky image (see attachment). I don’t know what is going on but the 2d camera works just fine and since the phone is bootloader 1.4 I really don’t want to exchange it and wind up with BL 1.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What I have tried:
Reboot
Pull battery 10 min
Reflash Stock Kernel
Flash SHOOTER-CDMA-SENSE-AnthraX-RLS001 Kernel
Reflash Sick Sense ROM
HTC Amaze Camera
Wipe the whole phone a few times then reinstall the ROM perhaps.
That's a weird pic lol. A full wipe should help . If not the camera is screwed up.

Sup man virus sometimes includes a superwipe tool with his roms I would check to see first if it has one.
Also there maybe nothing wrong with the rom your using you just need to do a full wipe like normal or you will have funky issues like the camera thing. If your flashing kernels with S on it can also cause that sorta issue. Read up on the kernels when it comes to flashing.
Also does the Amaze camera do 3d? I know it was a port from what I was reading up on.
Hope this helps man.

Which ROM has titties sticking out. Just curious for research purposes.
its because that camera is the one from the amaze and i dont think it has 3d capabilities.. switch roms or get the apk from another rom
The stock camera started displaying that weird image after flashing new ROM so I installed the amaze cam since it is supposed to work in 3D but it shows the same screen artifacts in 3D mode. I can view 3D pics and videos just fine its only the 3D camera that is freaking out.
is likely to be antrax kernel, i have that same problem but only with 3d games using infected rom with stock antrax, so i suggest you to try other kernel before you flash other rom.

Lmao same here I have seen some interesting wallpapers . On infected rom site virus has some nice lookin wallpapers and boot screens for enternity Need some research
Just as an update, I used superwipe and flashed new ROM and still no dice. Using my finger over the two camera lenses, I noticed that in 3D mode only the top camera is working so it’s probably a hardware issue.
Since I will get stuck w the 1.5 boot loader I was thinking it might just be better to wait for the ICS update then bring the phone in. Any thoughts on this?
TWRP is cool but I miss being able to flash a new rom/fresh update and just restore the data partition from a nandroid. This made life so much easier. I've seen a lot of people do it when they don't feel like restoring their apps with Titanium, among other things. It's always best to wipe and start fresh, but you can try to see if it work for yourself.
I miss it too, it was nice cause it had an app to go along with it kinda like rom manager. I emailed the dev a while back and he said they were gonna include support for our phone though

I will admit that it's easy to miss, so don't feel bad. It's not really advertised and the interface doesn't do the best job of representing itself.
Its what I did with tranquility and so far its running perfect
I miss it too, it had a nice interface and a TON of themes available
backups were also, at least for me, faster than those in TWRP
I i always thought it was a no no to restore data..I usually just restore my apps with tb and if I want the data of the apps individually if I want to .but this is good to know..

You can do this, but it doesn't make much sense. If your rom developer adds apps or other items to the data partition when you restore data from a nandroid it will over right them and you will lose them. You would be better off just wiping caches and formatting the system partition and leaving the data intact. At least then any tweaks the developer puts in data won't be lost when you do your restore. They call this a dirty install and will work most of the time without any problems.

Im familiar with dirty flashes but sometimes id like to start fresh while keeping data intact. I normally use a certain set of apps regardless of what is included in the rom. If it's something I'd want then I'd dirty flash, backup that data partition after uninstalling the bloat and use that for my new restore point

They take a premade cake and just put the icing on and call themselves bakers. Always do a full wipe to remove any existing bad sectors from your existing rom and also I don't use titanium backup etc, all my contacts are synced on my gmail acct my apps I have backed up with astro, I not had any issues with reboots for weeks now, my rom and kernel are stable as can be

I always make sure my installs are as fresh as a can always wipe all. But even before I even rooted, s-off or unlocked completely stock and untouched the phone hat those problems. I never backup apps with data and at times I have even downloaded all apps fresh from the play store but the problem always persists. If you could share a kernel I would appreciate it.
