as you are using cwm I guess you are on unlocked bootloader.
Flash a kernel which has both xrec and cwm like doomkernel v06 with bootmanager for stock based roms or kCernel for cm7/cm9 for cyanogen based roms.

You have to use different kernels so for using stock based roms flash its kernel and for cm based roms flash its respective kernel.
You can't flash both kernels same time and use them together.

Hi dears!
I would like to know if I can install and Custom rom or a kernel to overlock my Xperia Neo, with CMW and locked bootloader.
Thanks for your time guys
Kind Regards,
Ghafit
you can install a custom rom(rom should be converted to recovery image file) , but kernel cannot be installed on locked bootloader...
so, with stock kernel for example, can I install CM7, do you recommend that to me?
Nope, don't try that... you need a custom kernel for CM7 or MIUI roms.
and there aren't anymore nice custom roms with stock kernel?

do you recommend me to install that ROM?
yes you can try that but , users with locked bootloader when installed this rom face SU binary problems & wifi not working....(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281489&page=36)
NOTE : it is not the problem of rom , works perfectly on unlocked BL

Only stock based kernels like doomkernel or thkernel work with fera labs Rom.
You need to flash the recommended kernel in every ROM. The recommended kernel is mentioned in the OP
Hi, I am planning to isntall FXP146 over my stock .587 rom for my mini. My query is , do I need to install the rom before installing the custom kernel (like MESA) or the other way around? Or any order would do.
And which kernel is recommended for FXP if I am not into overclocking (MESA or Stock FXP) ??

You can use which you want, if you want more functions, use mesa.
You can flash kernel or rom first, normally this doesn't really matter. Only the clockworkmod version could change compared to the kernel you are using currently
Just flash the kernel then the rom or flash the rom then the kernel. You can use the kernel in the zip or mesa if u want more cpu governors & i/o scheduler like Mihahn said (better battery life too )
thanks guys for all the help.. yes i am using the MESA kernel, and i dont think anything can get better... loving cyanogenmod xD
help D:
umm I tried flashing fxp 146 but forgot to format data, now I am in boot loop and can only have fast boot, no cwm.
What should I do

First install a custom kernel. As most of custom rom required a custom kernel. So better have a custom kernel as you may need to switch to others custom rom in future. As for now, I personally recomended KernelPanic( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861905 ). I use Panic with Real ICS V6 custom rom and they works like a charm. Mesa provide good battery lifes but lack of perfomances and bad sound quality(i tried it myself before turn to Panic). You may try Rage kernel and Krsh as well. But there are abit old now, haven't updated since last few months. But still they are good kernels. Do some research before taking action's always a good idea. Cheers!

Depends on the base of your mini Rom.
Stock ics based you can use any ics based kernel like suave, lupus, etc.
For cm based you must use cm kernels.
Yes you flash kernels in fastboot mode with flashtool.
send from my mt11i with cm10 unofficially (TheDarkDefender build) on fusion kernel v5

There are two miui version in this thread.
1. v4 which ist stock sony ics .587 based
2. v2 which is cm7 based.
For v4 you can use any compatible ics based kernel.
Look at the stickys and you will find the kernels listed.
On my mind are stock sony kernel, advaced stock kernel, suave kernel, lupus kernel and nightelf (aliance) kernel.
If you are already on sony ics rom you can directly install miui rom.
If you want more kernel features than you must flash a custom kernel. To do so you have to unlock your phone bootloader.
V2 is cm7 based as already written. To try it you must unlock your bootloader and flash the provided kernel that comes with the rom.

Yupp.
V4 ist .587 based and works with stock kernel. You are limited to stock kernel features. If you want more like overclocking, etc you must unlock your bootloader and flash an custom ics kernel.
With a locked bootloader you are limited, with a unlocked bootloader you are free!!!
Hi.
I just installed CM10, and works well, but still has some bugs. Keyboard crazy with power supply, does not switch properly between Wifi and 3G ...
I wonder if changing only the kernel of other ROM's (fastboot ... boot.img) I could try to fix it.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure, u can try... mine works well on stock ICS with deleted bloatware. try flashing stock ICS.
you can try custom kernels but only those which are compatible with cm10 u can not flash a kernel that is for another rom that is stock based or on another cm based the kernel must be for cm10 only

Speedy Sola v5 on eXperience Innovation
Hello guys,
I have a similar question, I have tried to install some kernel after the rom is installed, and after that the phone doesn't boot, I did it through fastboot with different kernels and roms, I tried with Divaksh (eXperience v2 and Innovation v1.1) rom's and with Speedy Sola v5.5 or Munjeni's v5, is this normal?, how can I only flash the kernel?
Edit: Also first I installed Speedy Sola v5.5 and later eXperience Innovation v1.1 and kernel Speedy disappeared.
Thank for your replies!

Usually rom in zip contains kernel, so if you flash rom kernel anf then rom you will end up with kernel from rom. When you fastboot lernel, be sure your bootloader is unlocked and makd kernel you downloaded is for your device and it is right fof your kind of rom, stock cyanogenmod,...
After you flash kernel over fast boot then when you start the phone go directly to clockworkmod and wipe cache and dalvik. After that reboot and it should boot.
One exception, of course, if you want use experimental kernel, flash via cwm as it contains not only kernel but even updated libs.

Also thanks for the info, I didn't know that you lost the Kernel after installing a new ROM, but I have find my problem, Speedy Sola v 5.5 doesn't work on JB ROM for the moment.
