I am getting really frustrated with trying to get to the ringtone trimmer. I have searched and found several posts around the internet on getting to it via the music app. However, I cannot get to it on my phone it seems. If I start the music app itself, it doesn't show any music files. I tried doing a search for the file but it won't find it. I can't find an option in music to scan my phone for all music files either. If I go through root explorer and play it that way, the music popup player plays the file but there is no menu or options to set it as a ringtone, let alone trim it. It also doesn't add the file to the recently played list so I can'g get to it through the music app after playing it.
This has me really frustrated and I'm about ready to throw this phone through the wall. I found the HTC user manual telling how to do it, but guess what. IT DOESN'T WORK!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to work?
*If your response is to use a 3rd party app, don't bother replying. I want to find out how to use the tools included with the phone.*

I think this is what you're looking for but if not I apologize...this is what worked for me.
1. Open the HTC music app and start playing a song.
2. Once on the now playing screen, select the button with 3 dots about halfway down on right hand side.
3. Select "set as ringtone" option
4. Select trim ringtone
Good luck!

Maybe that is the problem. The only music app I have is called Music, not HTC music. I am running the latest stock deoxed Rom. It might have been removed.

If I open the music folder, I can do the same thing suggested above. Works for me but I'm not rooted. I also used quickshortcut maker (available in the market) which helps to locate the hidden HTC apps. I was able to find ringtone trimmer with this, although Im not sure where this app comes from, but it is not in my app drawer. Hope this helps.

Music app seems to find all the mp3 files, when the phone boots. I have had to clear its data, if I delete folders containing mp3s. Try restarting the phone, and see of the mp3, you're trying to trim, shows in the Music app.

That was the key, rebooting. Was finally able to see the file to play it and trim it. Thanks.

Mine keeps force closing on me whenever I try to view my music by album. It will show the wrong album names next to the album covers, and then it shows the wrong songs in that album, followed by a force close. Works fine if you view by all songs. Just wondering if anyone else is having any issues, or if it could possibly be my SD card.
I haven't had this problem yet. Did you try clearing the data? Settings - Applications - Manage Applications, then click the All tab, go to music and hit Clear Data

I need to make a slight correction. It force closes when I view by artist and then choose an album. I'll try clearing the data now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I get the exact same force close. I have done a factory reset, and a few various other things. I have just determined that the music app is buggy at this time, and I've been using the Google music beta in the meantime.

i actually have had issues with reboots while playing music. very weird, but using power amp has fixed it.
This happens to me with the HTC player, Double Twist and Winamp. It basically skips songs, randomly stops the music, when I shut the screen off it would stop the htc player and winamp would play. There's so many weird things happening, and they all affect the music.

Google Music is AWESOMENESS!!!
I had this problem. I downloaded mp3tag on my PC. Click on file>add directory and add your music folder. After your music loads, scroll right to the "codec" heading, and click on the heading to sort by codec. I am not sure what codecs htc's player supports, but I deleted anything that wasn't "MPEG 1 Layer III" (mp3 is actually an abbreviation for this codec). This solved all of the problems you mentioned for me.

Hi guys, long time listener, first time poster.
I thought I would share my experience with the music app. I'm also having issues, but it only seems to be buggy when my aux cable is plugged from the headphone jack to the car. The music will skip as if I'm fast forwarding through the track and will eventually start skipping whole songs. I've also noticed when the phone goes into the lock screen, the music widget that appears has both the "play" and "forward" buttons highlighted as if I'm pressing them. Clearly I'm not pressing them. It also bugs out with Google Music Beta, though the app doesn't have a lock screen widget, yet. I have yet to try other music apps beside the two I mentioned. I will report back with any findings.
Thanks for having me.
After a couple days of searching and reading, looks like it's a bug with the headphone jack. The phone is reading headphones/aux cable as a control device. The Nexus One, Incredible and a few other phones had this issue when they launched. mrjkwik has posted a link to a fix in another thread, but here it is again.

Works for me so far, until HTC can roll out another update. Hopefully they do soon. The link to the market is for a widget, so place it on one of your home screens and make sure it's on before listening to music.
I see when I open up TI that their is a ringtone trimmer, I have searched for it and it doesnt come up. I have tried accessing it and no dice, right now I have TI trying to "convert to user app" whatever that means. Has anyone found a way to use this, and why would htc/verizon put it on there and not have a way for us to access it?
The ringtone trimmer option is available under the stock music player, don't think it's accessible on it's own

Hmmm, how exactly do you access it there?
You can set a song as a ringtone, but can not cut it where you want it from there...
Through the music player:
Find the song/audio file you want, long press it, choose Set as Ringtone, and then (if the option appears) Trim Ringtone.
It looks like it will only give you the option to trim if the song is over a certain length. A 20 sec file didn't give me the option.
Currently rocking out to the sound of "Dovahkin! Dovahkin!" whenever my phone rings.

I do that, and only get the option of phone ringtone or contact ringtone.
Worked for me today. Didn't know it existed until I read this thread so thank you.
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
BVK's instructions got me to it. Very cool feature, actually. I had seen the service a couple times when poking around but was wondering where it was hidden.
This must be an example of the things people like about sense!
sorry if this has been posted before i really dont know what im doing buti have ics passion the newest build? and im having a problem with the music player it works for awhile and then it just goes in to "cannot play music at this time" and nothing works trying to get it to work and then i notice i have 5 of the same song and non of them play is there a fix to this or is there one on the way thnx
Yes it has but since this is your first post, we'll let it slide.
Go into Manage Apps->Musicplayer and clear cache and data. Reboot and Bam!! there you go.
Also don't forget for the future that your External_sd is now called EMMC just in case you need to direct something to your extsd card like 3rd party music player, camera,...
jyound New
it didnt work now it only shows one song but it still says it cant play the track you requested! am i the one person that had to get the busted samsung vibrant!

This happens to me as well and this is how I solve it.
First, force exit the music player (I use long-press on the back button).
Second go to manage apps > music player > clear data and clear cache
third restart music player and go to settings and refresh music from google music
Give it a little bit. It take mine about 20 minutes to complete the refresh but I have about 16GB of music on my phone.
This should solve it but for good measure, I reboot into recovery, clear cache, clear dalvik, and fix preferences.
Let me know if this helps.
That EMMC threw me off for the longest time. I bounced off a couple ICS ROM's before I realized the external was mounting fine, lol. They should put that in the OP of ICS ROM's
i tried clearing the data and cache and rebooted
i did everything and nothing i even tried to delete all music off of it and putting it back on and it gives me the same message immediately am i cursed?
is there nothing i can do
ive tried all of the above and still nothing is there anything i can do i really like using my phone as a music player its kinda important to me should i just switch to an iphone?
Have you tried another music player?
Install winamp. If it works, then try reinstaling google music.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
ive done it all
ive tried win amp and something else and when i tried those it just never played the song and there would be like 6 of the same song and non of them would play
Is the file type .mp3? If so it should play just fine.
Can you play the songs from the file browser? Try using "file explorer" or "root explorer", navigate to the folder that contains the music files and see if it plays from there. Sometimes after a fresh flash I need to do this to get music player to find the rest of my music folders.
Goodluck!
p.s. If you break down and buy an iphone send the vibrant to me dogg!
Try PowerAmp. It doesn't rely on the Android music scan or library. This eliminates the problem with tracks appearing multiple times. It also uses its own codecs and supports more formats.

I agree with the post above!
I had the "cannot play music" issue and tried the clearing of caches etc. nothing worked so I downloaded Power Amp and have been happy ever since.
Alright I ever since google has update the "Music" app they make it so if you do a keep offline you can't use any other app to play the songs. They have also try to hind the music when you save it for offline. Now is there anyway to fix this? I have found the music and were is sits but its like they lock the music files some how...
I am rooted as well.
I 1st did a search for .mp3 using Root Explorer and found that they are in data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music
When i am there i see the files but i am unable to play them in anything
Also the permissions for them are Owner: R/W thats it.
I have even tried to zip them up and put them on my PC to play and still not working what could it be? I just want to use Power AMP. lol :silly:
Anyone try this yet?

I've tried hiding my custom tones that I've downloaded at various points in different places on my phone (T-Mobile Galaxy S4), inclding the external SD, but to no avail. For example, I added a high quality .mp3 clip of a old rotary phone ring to use as my ringtone, I put it straight into the ringtones system folder.
Very next time that I start up Google Music, there's new stuff from 'unknown artist," low and behold, the ringtone.
Super annoying, part of the reason I was paying for all access to use Google Music was to have a clean, auto-organized library. I don't want all of my sounds system-wide added to my library, and I can't seem to find any way to change the folders it searches, or even to remove it from the library within the app once it is added.
Anyone have any ideas?
Isn't their a setting that let's you chose what folders Google music can see. For instance, in poweramp you can go into the settings and unchecked the folders.

Not one that I can find. The app is definitely on the side of simple/sleek rather than full options, which is nice except when you need to change something like this.
i think changing MP3 to ogg will solve the problem and put it in system/media/ringtones
