If I unrar the apk out of two diff ROMs, take some lockscreen images out and replace the images from another framework-res.apk, do I just need to re-rar/zip it, rename to .apk and then overwrite it using root explorer and then change permissions?
Or do I have to rezip and then flash whole ROM?
Thx in advance.

Its not that easy of a process..
You'll need to learn how to use APK Multi-Tool
the lockring images are not in the framework.apk they are the ones when you open the rom then system then app they are call=Idlescreen_Base.apk idlescreen_photo.apk idlescreen_shortcut.apk IdleScreen_Stock.apk IdleScreen_Weather.apk
i just change it on zr3d from meanromics cause i didn't like the one in zr3d hope this helps

The ones I found are in the framework res apk. I want the ones from Mazda's jb aokp which were in drawable-xhdpi to replace agrabrens cm10 1.6 which were in drawable-hdpi. I have both folders pulled up and see each roms lockscreen weather icons? Sure that isn't what I'm after?

If ur just replacing images...take both the Res folders out of the apk. Meaning using 7zip or winrar to open each apk up. Drag and drop each Res folder to ur desktop. Open each folder up. Drag and drop images from one to the other. Then once done drag and drop the correct Res folder back to the framework.apk that u want to use. Once done u can replace via root explorer and fix permissions and reboot phone
No need for to use apk multi tool unless ur decompiling and playing with XML files or actually editing .9 files. Tbh its an overkill to use it for anything less.

Thanks, thanks pretty much what I was figuring, just wanted some conformation.
Got them switched out and working. At first I just pasted it not thinking and didn't have the correct permissions set and put myself in a boot loop..:banghead: heh
So I just flashed ROM over itself and set correct permissions before swapping it out again. Rebooted fine and have new imgs. Thx smurf!

can someone please tell me what the hell these .pro files are? i'm used to seeing .png files in the apk's, and have done quite a bit of searching, but cannot find what format the .pro files are in the system apps on the lg optimus
also, what to do to convert .png's to .pro's and so forth
thanks in advance
I'm seeing the same thing all the themes for ninja/metamorph are using .png files.
But when i open the apk's for said theme they contain pro files instead of pngs.
I'll do some of my own testing.
But if anyone else has any incite please let me know.

somebody recently said that if you rename your .png files to .pro, it may work
i havent tried it yet though
I just tested it and it worked.
But when i tried it with a .9. file it cause my phone to bug out and had to load a backup.
So watch out for those .9 files.

Na i just used DOS to remane them like ren *.png *.pro
And done!
Still there are alot of bugs with those pro files some work some dont...some cause boot loops or the app not to work.
What i need is buuf style control bar and maybe some buuf themed apps that will work without renaming files.
have you found a way to view and edit files .pro?

All I really want to do is make the icon that shows up in the status bar look like the main icon of the MMS app. I have done what I did in gingerbread to do it, but the icon looks really tiny when I do this on ICS. Is there something special I have to do?

for ICS, no. for HD devices like the rezound, yes.
Theres a folder in res called drawable-xhdpi. this is where you need to change your icons. youll notice, they are all larger than the icons in the hdpi folder. this is for HD screens.
the icons for the status bar need to be 50x50 pixles

maybe. if they arent sized right it may resort back tot eh drawable-hdpi folder with the smaller icons
resize them to 50x50 and try it
Im trying to theme the colors alone, I was able to get the apk and the only way I could make some changes was by using 7zip to extract the contents of the apk to a folder, I made my modifications I wanted to, and now what? How do I put it back to .apk type file or make it a flash able zip if at all possible?

Doooope! Worked like a charm.
Couldn't get it to flash...says failed. What am I doing wrong...?
Pretty sure it's not a flashable zip. There's no Meta-inf folder.
Just put it in the location the OP says to put it. I dont know if it needs to be extracted first, though. Haven't tried it yet.
Hoping this might make the TWRP UI lighting/backlight brighter. TWRP is so dim on my screen I can barely see it.

not flashable or anything, dont extract, just copy ui.zip(has to be named ui.zip) to /sdcard/TWRP/THEME and reboot recovery to load the theme...

Awesome job. If I wanted to modify this to my own liking, can I simply just change the colors and recompress it all back to zip and paste back into my themes? Or do I have to change something in the .xml file aswell?
slightly off topic, but in the OP, you mentioned that you originally made this for the TouchPad. Can you share please!! I'd love to have that on my touchpad too! If you have already posted it somewhere, sorry, I searched the touchpad section and couldn't find it.

Good day!
Guys is it possible that Xperia 2011 devices running ICS .431 can also have the on-screen buttons like the one in Samsung Google Nexus running ICS?

Sent from my GT-I8552 using Tapatalk
It was not a hack,
It's just re-code the program for an additional features.
Limited is different from Prevent,
maybe the original programmers code this for the apps by category or for this apps only, but he/she does not prevent it from other category.
if the source programmers prevent other category for this apps, then that's the term of hacking.
android is open source, if the source code is available then there's no hack, coz it's sharing,
they said, there's the code, use it, modify it, add additional..... and SHARE again the source.
you can decompile apk by apktool or apkmultitool to become readable xml (source)
you can also decompile .jar by simply renaming it to apk.
example: services.jar, rename this to services.jar.apk,
you can now decompile it and after recompile, rename again to services.jar
Dear friends can any one confirm if this works on stock rooted rom. I'm currently away from pc for next few days and can't revert back to stock, if it gives a fc. Any suggestions

Yeah this works expt for some issue with adding an app to window side bar...
While adding..when u press and hold an app from list as soon as you drop app icon to side bar the app is differnt than you selected...eg. u drag and drop music u get video playr instead or something else randomly added to side bar...
.
So you hav to remove that unwanted app from sidebar and try adding another app from list...and after some random draws u may get your desired app in side bar...
.
Its tiresome yeah...but still unlimited window option works somehow...and we shud appreciate that right...
