No Google search for GB anymore? :( - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings all, I'm having Xperia Neo rooted running GB 2.3.4. I just recently flashed my GB 2.3.4 and as usual got stock rom Google apps including play store, gmail, google search etc.
In stock rom, google search has older version, obviously, where its GUI is not that good and I remember that I had updated it when I haven't flashed or rooted and that GUI was so smooth and sleek. It was full white and bright than this older version came with stock. So I thought to update it from market manually. When I went to market, saw google search app but, Market says, only for android 4.1 and up oh Google, why so? what about GB users then dear? If suppose, I had not had stock .apk of google search and I wanted it from market only then unknown download, I could not have it on my phone only. Google search is most imp app, obviously. But why google did so? This is very disgraceful. Tell your views.

It says on the page you linked to that it is because it includes "google now" and that only works on latest version of android.
You can still use the standard search bar included by most manufacturers though.

I noticed that as well, they could have left the old version on Google Play as well. Most devices come with it preloaded but there were updates to the app that you can't get now unless you sideload the apk. You can get it here:

Android 2.1 + Google Talk issues

Hi guys,
Yesterday I updated my X10 mini PRO to Android 2.1 via regular SEUS (Claro carrier from Brazil). Everything went just fine.
Not a surprise, Google Talk is not installed by default and not available in the Market (same as in Android 1.6). So I installed APKtor and downloaded Google Talk version 1.3 (latest version available from Google).
The point is, Google Talk just does not work. When I tap its icon, it seems to start loading then it hangs (I get that "Force Close" message). It worked just fine this way (downloaded from APKtor) back in 1.6.
Anyone else seeing this? Maybe it's blocked by Claro? If so is there any way to debrand X10 mini PRO with 2.1 already?
Thanks!

Knudsen, thanks for the tip but there was no such app installed... Claro is really blocking their users to run this app (maybe because high amount of data usage?).
Anyway I ended up by flashing the generic UK firmware, now I can use Google Talk perfectly and I am rid of all Claro crap.
Now let me see if the battery drain issue is also gone
Cya!
If you use gtalk for more than 3 hrs , the maximum data transfer will be around 3 MB ... so thats not the problem
My problem is worse. I have samsung galaxy S with android 2.1 update1 and the gtalk will just not open. it blinks and disappears again. clearing cache and all that has not helped me. Help please

[Q] No Google maps in ICS?

I've installed Rebelrom 3.0 and now 3.1 but in both versions I can't find google maps anywhere. No maps show up in the play store either.
I did install the Gapps file so what am I missing?
Strange it doesn't look like maps is included with that rom, simply download another lpq based rom that has maps in it, like foxhound, and copy it to the /system/app dir.
Or try the Android market .

I can hardly find anything on the market. With a direct link it keeps telling me the device in not compatible.
It's a shame because besides the missing apps the ROM is great.
Is there another ICS rom available that has none of the Samsung-look menus and compatible with Siyah kernels?
I've installed the HyDrOG3N-ICS rom and newest Gapps, works great so far. Play store works fine as well so except for the camera option I'm happy

Is it possible to use standard Google apps on ICS?

Just updated my G2S with the official ICS update and was wondering if it is possible to install the standard Google calendar app rather than use the Samsung supplied calendar app?
It's possible, try rooting and using a holo-themed LPQ rom, or you could find the .apk
I can't post links yet, sorry! :'(

Stock ICS Rom

Hi All,
Sorry in advance if I have either posted this in the wrong forum or if this question has been asked many times before (I have searched the forum).
I just got a Samsung Galaxy S III on T-Mobile UK. Previously I had the Orange San Francisco with CyanogenMod, the Nexus 1 with CyanogenMod and an Archos 101G9 with stock ICS.
I rooted the device fine and then started to uninstall some apps which were pre-installed using the app removal tool within Titanium Backup. I then noticed that many of the stock android apps like calendar and email were not there. Instead, there is different email app and a calendar app called 'S Planner'.
I then installed the Omega Rom which had less apps which were pre-installed but I still had the problem were the basic google apps like email and calendar were still not there. I also noticed that the normal android sounds and keyboard were not part of this Rom.
I there a rom out there for my phone which is just basic android ICS? The less apps pre-installed, the better. Is CyanogenMod9 stable enough? The reason I like CyanogenMod is that they provide a list of the APKs which can safely be removed.
Thanks,
Dan
What about the blackstar aosp rom?

[Q] 101 IT roms

Hi all be patient with a noob.
I have a couple of ZTE phones which i have rooted and installed roms on so not totally clueless.
Now to the point I have unfortunately bought myself or should I say my wife 2 yes thats 2 Archos door stops.
One is a 101 IT G8 the other is a arnovatech 10 G2 (designed by archos).
The 10 G2 needs a power jack plug repair (nothing new there then) and I will looking elsewhere for advice on that one.
The 101 IT needs some work to make it easier for her to download her favorite games from google play, play store or whatever its called now.
So which do users feel is the best rom to use on this tablet based on stability, I know the most stable will be stock rom but this does not have google play?.
Hello

yes had thought about doing that but still wondering which is one of the better roms to use.
some people says urukdroid, some says original rooted rom, some says gingerbread...
first install SDE on your archos then install all disponible rom (degu, urukdroid, ICS ) then try them
for me the best rom ist GB (degu version) but for a lot of people it's urukdroid

Thanks for that, with a lack of response i'll leave it as is and just put market on via arctools.
Only problem with that is flashplayer is not gonna work, so she wont be able to watch videos or play her facebook games until i can get the apk file sorted.
I have flash player installed on my archos, normally on the first page of applibs
