LTE getting Bricked using old flash - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Been reading over at Mik of a lot of EVO LTE getting bricked trying to go back to old saved back up any one here and if so what was the steps ?

I know more than one of us bricked trying to flash the older firmware after flashing the new firmware.
I should have made a thread dedicated to the issue rather than just a post in the update thread....could have saved a lot of eVos

How do I avoid brick?
Stay off new firmware? I am currently rooted via zedomax and s-off via lazy panda.
I downloaded the latest radio and PRI from Capt. Throwback but haven't flashed them yet.

Just don't try and flash the older firmware after flashing the new one.

I'm planning to hold off an updating to the latest firmware until I flash a ROM that's based on the latest software version. If you're running a ROM with an older base, using the latest firmware could cause compatibility issues, and since downgrading could brick the phone, you'd be stuck. Unless you're experiencing connection problems, I don't think there's much reason to risk it.

Yup. Bricked here. Tried to reflash the last firmware because I had no service ay all after flashing the latest. I actually had service on aosp toms but nothing on sense. I really didn't think I was taking much of a risk being s-off
Edit. Just browsed the forum, brick threads all over the place. Most of these ppl are able to access bootloader/recovery. NOT BRICKED.

Yeah those are mostly people who don't understand their bootloader

I had an honest-to-goodness brick from downgrading firmware. No bootloader, no recovery, no charging light, no combinations of buttons worked, cpu in Qualcomm download mode, but lazy panda unbricker couldn't find it.

If you installed the latest OTA, it's not a good idea to flash to an older version so you can root. You're likely to brick the phone.
Sucks, cause I wanted to flash CM10 once the camera was fixed, but looks like I gotta wait til a workaround is invented.

The issue is firmware, not software.
You can still install whatever ROM/ROM version you want.

My bad. X.x

I just got s-off through lazy panda yesterday and installed twrp, now I wanna install synergy rom but it is based off the newest ota base, while I of course have the 1.13.651.1 base. Can i still install this rom and will it function as it should? Do I need to find some modified RUU that will give me the latest OTA without losing s-off?

So just to be clear, ROM's never include firmware (except for maybe official OTA updates)?
According to this, "a phone’s firmware is basically its operating system." So do ROMs depend on a certain "operating system" to function properly? If I have a ROM that was built on an older firmware, does that mean it may not function properly with the newer one? But this won't brick a phone, just maybe make the ROM not function (but you can still flash a different one)?

Try the unbrick tool in the lazy panda thread, its for a very specific kind of brick but it may work

In my defense, I had just joined the forum yesterday and for the first time unlocked the bootloader, removed root, flashed a custom rom and kernel. But the OTA update was performed before I even came onto XDA, so I didn't know that because of it I would not be able to revert to stock. Now I do.

I have a question.. I am s on hboot 1.15 htc dev unlocked. I want to run meanrom 3.6 but it is based off the new update. I have read you can use fast boot or flash gui to flash the kernel and than flash the Rom after that. Question is.. Is this true for my setup and is there any concern about not having actually updated everything on the update? I read stuff about a Rom or base mismatch issue..Thanks for any help..

You got it...just fastboot flash the boot.img from the ROM, then flash the ROM in recovery and you should be all set. You shouldn't need to install the latest firmware for it to work, but it's probably recommended. That being said, since you're s-on you won't be able to anyway. Should be fine with just the kernel and ROM.

The new radio kicks but. Solves most or all problems with LTE. The dream of s-off for hboot 1.15 is a fantasy. Even the developer for Meanrom decided it wasn't worth waiting for an s-off that will probably never come and took the latest ota to bring his new phone up to date with the complete firmware package. Mikey was s-off and completely bricked his phone by accidentally putting the old firmware zip on his sdcard and flashed it. His replacement phone came with 1.12 and instead of going with s-off he decided to take the ota and keep it s-on. That way, he will have to flash just like the 1000 other users that use his rom. Yes, I am happy I am s-off, but if you aren't, you might as well get the full use of your phone and take the ota, unlock your phone again, and install MeanRom.
Those people that chime in and say the latest ota isn't worth it sure haven't tried it. This phone is so smooth now it is indescribable. The radios alone are worth it, but HTC did a great job with this update. Sense 4.1 and Android 4.04 are a grat combination.

Make sure you read the OP. You have to update the firmware in steps to be able to run the lastest ROMs.
There is no reason to update the HBOOT, in fact you do not want to do that. It just makes it harder to gain S-OFF when you want.
Captain throwback's firmware update Thread
Before I finally got soff, I was running the latest on. 1.15 firmware without any issues. So there's a good chance you can run the latest rom without updating, still it depends on your phone really. HTC phones have a nice feel and overall quality, but stack the same model head to head and there are still a crap ton of differences. Me and my gf both have launch day evos, I can over clock and under volt while she can't do either. Her camera crashes, she has lte hand off issues, navigation crashes, and she has problems with sms. I have none of those problems

I am having errors when flashing and I have never sseen them before. I assumed it was from the new firmware I have flashed.

Did you flash the touch panel too, or just the firmware without touch? AFAIK, the tp doesn't work for non 3.16, and will cause issues. When you say you are getting errors, what are the errors?

I flashed the full firmware, which apparently has the tp in it.
So that is the problem?
Can I flash 3.15 and be good to go?
Are you s-off? If so you can downgrade the TP only. The zip for that is in the firmware thread.
Downgrading firmware will result in a brick I believe. If you are s- on then either stay with 3.16 ROMs or s- off your phone.

If you flashed full firmware, it means that you s-off, what recovery do you use? Downgrade tp first, then you can downgrade recovery if you want, from here. http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98 Scroll all the way down to bootloader flashable 2.3.1.0

If you didn't install the standalone touch panel update, you don't need to downgrade your touchpanel. The 3.16 full firmware file in the thread you listed does NOT include the updated touchpanel.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

Ummm......as far as downgrading, one of the root methods had you downgrade your phone. Can't recall which one, can't really be bothered to look it up, but that's how a lot of people got s-off. Technically, you temp-brick your phone, but I mean...it takes all of half an hour, if that.

EVO LTE restarting continuosly after Jelly bean Update

I am Using HTC EVO 4G LTE in india under reliance india network.
I am using it for almost 2 months without any issues,
Last week i installed the Jelly bean OTA, from them onwards the device keeps on restarting every 5 min.
Its boots perfectly works stably for 5 min and then it re-starts.
I dont know what to do? .. Will downgrading to ICS will fix this problem.?
If so whats the best method to downgrade .. I am noob when it comes to this device. Please guide me.
I checked the forum but its with too many posts and got confused on it.
Honestly the first thing I would retry is a factory reset(if your not already s off) just make sure to backup any data you want saved onto your pc first. Perhaps even a phone call to your carrier as well that way they can document the issue so if you need a replacement later the paper trail will help.

There is probably ten thousand more people on here that can give you a more qualified answer than what I'm about to but I can tell you right now your gonna have to do the leg work and work your search bars...But I have recently been dealing with downgrading these EvoLTE's lately so I can at least help you narrow it down(a little).
Since you upgraded to JellyBean, I think the most important thing you will need to know is whether it updated you from the 2.13 firmware to the 3.16 firmware and whether your touch panel img was updated or not. If you were updated to 3.16 with the new touch panel, your basically going to have a heck of a hard time trying to downgrade to ICS...You'll have to get s-off and use a linux/ubunta live cd to downgrade it back to 2.13 so that you can then load a ICS rom. (BTW, if your in this boat, good luck because until they come up with a easier way to downgrade(if they ever do) it seems to be no joke, I wouldn't even attempt it, but I'm pretty much a noob to this stuff)
If your still, hopefully, on 2.13 , then all you should have to do is unlock your bootloader, and add the ICS rom to your sd card and flash a TWRP custom recovery then flash/install the rom through the bootloaders recovery(TWRP recovery). I would recommend the MeanRom ICS rom, it's easy to find and a great ICS rom that is basically stock. That or hunt down a stock 4.0.4 rom. Good luck.

Most likely not. When the EVO got the official update to software version 3.16, the firmware that came with that update included an update to the touch panel. If you have the updated touch panel you can only use ROM's that are software version 3.16. Using anything else will render the touch panel inoperable. Your best bet, as stated above, is to get S-off. Once you do this you can install the previous touch panel driver and flash an ICS ROM. You can leave everything else as-is. There is no need to downgrade your firmware.
