WIFI sleep policy (ain't turn off on sleeping) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using stock rom 4.0.3 LPG with siyah kernel 3.4.1
Seems like the wifi ain't turn off even when I choose (in advance manu) "keep wifi on..." only when plugged in or never.
Nothing really helps..I can still see its on (also on battery monitor) when the device is on deep sleep.
Alao there is no app or service that running and required wifi while it last...
Sometimes its turn it off after ~30 min, sometimes after more then 3 hours (if so).
Anyone have any idea how to make it work or why is it happens?

Well looks like it is not permanent, sometimes its took 1hr of screen off to get wifi sleep and sometimes took 30min to turn it off.
Also forgot to mention that when the WIFI was awake all the time its happened when there is even no WIFI connection around (no routers)...
What could it be ??
any help will appreciate.

[Q] Experiencing Wifi drain issue, anyone else?

It seems that upon turning my screen off my phone will not enter deep sleep properly, sitting at around 30-50% of the total time. I have narrowed it down to what seems to be a wifi issue.
Phone Specs:-
Build: CheckROM RevoHD v4
Kernel: SpeedMod k2-18-test13
Baseband: KI4
When I completely turn off Wifi and 3G I experience very minimal battery loss and over 95%+ deep sleep.
Turning on JUST 3G also gives me 95%+ deep sleep with slightly higher battery loss then disabled.
Using Wifi only causes me to lose A LOT of battery life (about 1 % per 5~ minutes, screen off of course) whilst having about 30-50% deep sleep if even.
Yes, I have tried turning off syncing, background data, GPS, locations etc. with 3G and Wifi seperately and there seems to be no change at all. I have tried several kernels (mostly speedmod) and they haven't seemed to fix this issue.
This leads me to assume that my current app setup is irrelevant as I used the same setup when comparing Wifi On and Off/3G.
Has anyone else encountered an issue like this? Would really appreciate any input that will go towards solving this problem. I will try completely different kernels to see just what exactly is going on until someone can help me out with a fix.
Thanks in advance.
It could me that your router is causing the problem. What router do you have? It could also be a modem problem. Try changing your modem and see if that helps.
Changing kernels won't help.
I'm using an RT-N15 Asus router (asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTN15/) using WPA2-Personal security. I might try changing the mode, which one do you suggest for the setup that I have? Have never changed modem since stock.
*EDIT* I tried a few different modems and didn't seem to help at all. Tried Dark Knight 2.3 kernel and same problem. I guess I'll have to try another wifi network to see if it is the router.
Do you have Wifi sleep policy set to 'never'? Make sure it is.
settings>>wifi >> wifi settings >> menu >> advanced >> sleep policy >> Never
Yes it's off. I've been playing around with it more and finally got it to deep sleep properly with Wifi on but the battery went from 48% -> 21% in 7 hours while being 90%+ in deep sleep. Android OS came up at 59 mins, 53% battery usage.

[Q] WiFi Disconnects Regularly

Hi,
I just bought a Sony Tablet S, amazing device. The only problem I'm having is that when the tablet is idle, or the screen shuts down, the WiFi gets disconnected and it doesn't reconnect untill I open the WiFi panel in the settings app.
Now before you guys jump to conclusions, yes, I changed the WiFi disconnect policy to "Never (uses more battery power)". That hasn't helped at all.
Any ideas? Is this just with Sony S or a generic Honeycomb thing? Tablet hasn't been rooted as yet.
Try Advanced Wifi Lock Free. It works well with my tablet.
This issue seems to be a bug in Tablet S. I hope they'll fix it in the ICS release
Yes, already discuss here...
You need to install a must have application...
Advanced Wifi Lock

Worked
Thanks for the app recommendation. It's working...so far .
I bought my Tablet S 2 days ago.
Though I have heard of this issue before, my new tablet does not have this problem, maybe Sony has fixed the bug.
p.s. I changed the wifi disconnect setting to Never.
I started using wifi advanced lock a couple weeks ago and it works great! Much better than making sure the screen stays on during all your downloading
...Although I've noticed a massive change in battery life. Typically I was always getting 7-8 hours of screen on (gaming) time out of it, with up to an additional 24 hours of time with it on standby.
Now I got about 13 hours standby and 4.5 hours screen on time with wifi constantly on.
All I'm saying is to have a widget for turning on/off wifi quickly, and leave it off when it's not in use. I didn't think that wifi made THAT much of a difference..but apparently it does lol (and that was still without autosync on either)
I uninstalled that and use spare parts instead. Advanced wifi lock was horrid with my battery grrr
I think is normal, because if you put your tablet in standby is because you're not using them so why you need wifi on?
When you turn on again the wifi will reconnect auto again
WPS Wifi Lock
I had the same issue when connecting at my house, If you have a WPS enabled routter, connect to you access point using WPS. At keeps the signal locked.

any way of getting rid of time out

when i start to download any file which is big ,after the screen goes black after 1 minute the WiFi also stops working i have to start the machine again and the WiFi starts to work again
it means that i wont be getting any notifications while the screen is off as the WiFi is off .not nice
any way of getting around it
thanks
Download "Advanced Wifi Lock (Free)" from the store and set it so WiFi doesn't go off. It's somewhat of a battery killer but it's better than the alternative.
The wifi is a big flaw in the Tablet S that wasn't fixed in ICS.

Try this: before downloading the file, go into advanced Wi-Fi settings and set the Wi-Fi disconnect policy to "Never" or if you have your tablet connected to its charger, "Never when plugged in". After the file has been downloaded, set the disconnect policy back to what you normally have it set to.
This is the WLan Bug. Sony cant get it better with ICS and to change the Wlan Settings does not bring the result.
So take your Screentime to max about 5min. and tap every 2 or 3 minutes the screen. Revert this Settings after download is complete.
greetings Dimes
I've only ever had this problem once, and I could fix it by just going to Settings>WiFi Settings>Advanced>Disconnection Policy and said "Never". That would be my suggestion since (as mentioned) third-party WiFi lock's chew through battery like theres no tomorrow...
Good ideas. I also use an app that does not let the screen sleep when the power cord is plugged in.

[Q] After JB update, wifi always off in sleep

I like keeping my wifi on while my screen is asleep so that I can receive chat messages or e-mails without being at my computer. I never had this problem while running ICS on an unrooted TF201, but ever since I installed the upgrade to JB my wifi will always disconnect after the screen has been asleep for a few minutes. I've checked every setting I can think of. In the Wifi Advanced menu, I have it set so Wifi is always on, and in the ASUS customized setting I have Disconnect network during sleep to off. Under Power Saver I have Enable low battery settings off, set Low battery level to 0%, and even set Wifi OFF to off. Despite all of this, it seems like the tablet under JB goes into some sort of deep sleep and disconnects the wifi after about 5 minutes of inactivity.
I have noticed that this problem does not occur when the screen is on. I also have the dock, and set the screen to always on during meetings in the event that I don't need to enter any notes for a few minutes so I don't have to fool with any delays from screen wake .
Is there some setting I'm missing? Is it a hidden setting that I could access by rooting? Or am I dealing with something internal to the build that I can't change at all? This may not seem like a huge deal to most, but it has become one of my main uses for the tablet when I'm at home. I'm very disappointed with JB so far even though the wifi does feel more responsive on the Prime after the update (when it's not sleeping, of course!).
EDIT: I noticed this evening that the wifi turns off even when I'm running something that uses it while the screen is off. I was listening to Pandora, and about 5 minutes after the screen went off, my music stopped. When I turned the screen back on, I saw that the wifi had indeed become disconnected.
hey,
I have exactly the same problem with my tablet. I have checked every option, I did a factory reset several time, I have checked it on 2 different routers but it is still disconnecting the wife when it goes in the sleep modus. Did you or anyone else find a solution?

Since tasker is designed to automate all of android, it is the go-to app for this issue, as well as others
