Help changing apn.xml? - HTC EVO 3D

I'm on a VM Evo 3D (Evo V 4G), and I'm trying to get MMS working on this Sense 4 ROM. The default MMSC settings inside the native Messaging app is grayed out, so I can't change them from there. I can't use APN changer, since ICS blocks 3rd party apps from accessing APNs.
So my only option was to edit /framework-res.apk/res/xml/apn.xml. Decompiled with apktool, and edited the apn.xml. But when I compiled it again, it does this weird thing where it soft reboots. I can see the UI for a few seconds, and then it goes back to the HTC bootlogo. UI seems to work fine, but it only stays for a few seconds. Help? Also, I signed it with Signapk.
*EDIT*
Solved! You have to decompile it, copy the META-INF and AndroidManifext.xml from the original (compiled) framework, change necessary apn.xml content, recompile, sign with signapk, push it to /system/framework, chmod 644, reboot into recovery, and then do a FULL data wipe. Note- FULL. Wiping just Dalvik and cache WILL NOT WORK.
**EDIT**
I'm attaching my framework-res.apk to this post. THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU'RE RUNNING THE SENSE 4 ROM LINKED ABOVE. Push to /system/framework, chmod 644, reboot into recovery, and then wipe ALL data/cache.

Hmmm. You've probably tried this but maybe wipe cache and dalvik from recovery?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

After you recompiled it did you pull the new apn.xml and put it in the original framework-res.apk or did you try using the new apk it generated when you recompiled it
After you recompile it just take the apn.xml and put it in the original framework-res.apk don't sign it or anything
or you can change it using your epst settings. ##3282# then a then type in your msl then go to advanced then MMSC Settings and then type in your apn settings

You want the "apns-conf.xml" file in /system/etc I beleive that will make the edit you want.....I did that on newt's sense 4 rom for my boostmobile mms
Just edit the text then reboot

Change default settings?

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to set default settings i.e. ringtones, backgrounds etc?
thanks!
i think it is in the build.proc too. but i'm not sure....
Yes it is thanks!
I assume there was a typo in the 1st reply andit was really 'build.prop' you meant?
I am also trying to set some defaults in my ROM but changing the entries in the build.prop didn't change the default ringtone and notification sound. I am wondering if this is a theme thing and it gets overwritten when the default theme is activated?
I changed these lines in build.prop:
ro.config.ringtone=voodoo.mp3
ro.config.notification_sound=Weight.mp3
And neither were set in my ROM after I wiped and flashed.
Any ideas?

That's what I thought but the mp3 files are there in the ROM and I can select them if I wish to change the sound manually - the Weight.mp3 file is a standard one that is included by default, voodoo.mp3 is one I have added. However following a wipe and re-flash the ringtone defaults to QuietlyBrilliant.mp3 and the notification to Zeta.mp3.
There must be something else that gets involved?

I am only adding one audio file (the ringtone), the other file is one that's already in the ROM. I am adding the ringtone to /system/media/audio/ringtones.
I re-checked my syntax and that the files were all there, built another ROM and it now works. I am wondering if I didn't wipe the system properly (or at all) last time I flashed.
So anyway its working now.
Thanks, Andy

[GUIDE]criKet Wireless MMS fix for Sense 3.5 Rom

cricKet MMS for Sense 3.5 Roms
First download this zip everything you need is in it.
In this zip there is an mms.apk and telephonyprovider.apk
With root explorer move them to /system and set permission to rw-r-r
Then got to /system/app and delete your mms.apk (both odex files if your rom is odex)
Then go back to /system folder and move the new mms.apk and telephonyproviders.apk to /system/app (if your rom is odex you will now have to delete the telephonyprovider odex files, deodex it will automatically overwrite).
Now if you get FC's it is all good just pull the battery and hold volume down and power button to reboot into recovery. If you dont get FC's still reboot into recovery.
Now in recovery wipe cache and dalvik then fix permissions, then reboot.
After rebooting open apn backupandrestore (get it from the market) hit backup apns do this so it will make a folder on your sdcard.
Now go to the folder it just created and delete the xml in it
Now from the cricket zip you downloaded earlier there are two xml's, if you got a flashed sprint phone use the sprint(the same if you have a flashed verizon phone) move it to your apnbackrestore folder on your sdcard.
Now open up the xml with text editor by long clicking on it in root explorer scroll down and hit text editor and where it has [email protected] replace the x's with your phone number, then menu and click save & exit.
Next open apn b&r and delete apns and reboot.
After reboot open apn b&r again and hit restore apns and hit the the xml you just moved there then reboot
Thats it you should now have working mms on sense 3.5
Dont forget under the mms setting to set the limit to 500k that is the most cricket will allow you to send

A "Fresh" Approach for your Boost Mobile flashed EVO3D
First off most all credits to Fresh aka flipzmode for base and tweaks(Fresh Evo 3d 4.2.0)
I love Fresh roms been using them for ages and I finally decided to do my own with correct boost mobile mms, native voicemail notifications fix etc so here it is.
This is an alpha but should run just fine as I have been running it perfect.
Although this is an alpha i take no responsibility for how it affects your phone.
FLASH Responsibly and at your own risk.
changelog 0.1
Removed system apps
-Phone.apk
-vtt-sprint.apk
-Sprint_InstallerNC_v2_1_0.apk
-SPCSCorp4G.apk
Replaced stock Phone.apk with patched evo voicemail notification fix for boost see here for more info.
Correct Boost mms settings/url set
Added following apks
-com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup.. aka Titanium Backup
-mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser.apk aka Dolphin HD browser
-org.lsartory.cachecleaner.ng.. aka cache cleaner NG

various minor tweaks such as
-changed default browser url to google from sprints power deck
-changed applicable Sprint items to show sent from Boost

ive been browsing around and havent seen a proper fix for this besides those who want to make a profit.
im currently testing this and can send mms to myself, by way of the go sms pro app....it allows sending mms to yourself with a viewing pic......
AOSP ROMS
1. Delete the MMS.apk and mms odex if there is one from /system/app
2. install Go sms Pro from the market
3. Setup go sms Pro for Full features.
4. in go sms pro app hit menu>settings>>MMS settings>Fill APN config Manually
MMSC: Http://mm.myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com
MMS proxy: I left mine blank
MMS Port: 80
SENSE
1. go into mms app and look to see if mmsc is editable. (sense 3.0 & some 2.1 allow editing.
2. If not editable follow steps above for AOSP^^^^^
3. EDITABLE change mmsc to

there is no boost radio uses same radio as sprint as it uses sprint network and towers
the prl should be the same but u would have flashed that from your "donor" phone already prior to this
also if your phone is flashed mostly like ha secret and esn meid is "correct" dialing ##32823 then data profile>menubutton> restore will reboot and handsfree activate it and setup those values for you
go sms is useless. all u have to do is type ##DATA# (##3282#), hit edit mode and type in your "MSL". navigate to advanced and change the "MMS Server URL" to "http://mm.myboostmobile.com". i have had my evo 3d since its release and have never had a problem sending or recieving pics.
What doesnt work
-WIMAX/4G (Boost Mobile doesnt support it)
since boost mobile uses sprint towers can we roam sprint towers for the wimax 4g signal with a custom prl ??? now that will be a hot hit for many xxx

Stock ICS Contacts.apk and Phone.apk

For those of you who prefer the stock ICS apps for contacts and phone. This will do until CM9 is fully working
Just copy to /system/app and change permissions using root explorer.
I'm currently running this on Flex's rom seems to work ok.
Notes:
Phone - Dialpad doesn't auto look up contacts when dialing
Contacts - Doesn't switch to high res HaxSync photos
I take no credit for these, thanks to paulobrien on his HTC One X rom:
[ROM] MCR - MoDaCo.one for the HTC One X S4 (Sense + Vanilla)
Does anyone know how to fix the looking up of contacts when dialing the number on the dial pad?
Thanks for the APKs! Not to be greedy but I have one other request Anyone know where to find stock ICS messenger?

There's another post here with one but it force closes.
Update on using the stock phone and contacts app.
Both work great! Have been using for a few days now. I removed the HTC Phone and Contacts apk's from /system/app.
Only thing that is happening which I find weird is whenever my phone comes up after a reboot, the stock contacts app opens up. Haven't been able to figure out why
I have noticed that once a phone call is started, it still uses the htc phone app even though I have removed it from system/app. Is there somewhere else I need to put the apk or some modding i need to do in the build.prop? These are minor issues but I would love to have these working perfectly. I'm surprised there isnt more people commenting in here and wanting these.
Bump to the top. I'm interested in learning how to mod apps and rom's so if anyone who has experience in this would like to help me work on these that would be awesome.
So you removed HTC phone apk, but it still opens?

Yea, I'm doing the same thing. I hate all the bloat in it now though. GoSMS is worse.

It's working on my evo just fine actually. I stuck it in system/apps,fixed permissions and then installed it and it replaced the existing HTC app.

Can we get a link for the ones on rootzwiki? Every one I find seems to lead to removed pages. If the T9 and mms works, I'd like to try it. Thanks!

Here is the link. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/29460-in...pdate-7-5-new-playstore-ver-3713-and-mms-app/
I flashed the MMS zip last night and confirm that SMS and MMS messaging works.
I can't seem to get this to work. I'm using root explorer, I copy the phone.apk to system/app, change its permissions to rw-r-r, reboot, and nothing.

[Q] Help increase mms size limits on HTC One

Ok so a few days ago i came across a thread to increase the mms sending limits on the One. However for the life of me i cant find the thread again I have searched for an hour. On stock settings i cant even send a 10 sec video clip through mms. I understand i can email it however thats not what im looking to do. If anyone knows how or can help point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanc

I swear I saw a post on how to do it. I just can't find it anywhere. I know it can be done tho. It's horrible even a 10 second video is to big to send via mms. At least for my phone it is.
MMS Compression kills me. Can't send someone a nice high res pic. Sizes it way down and compresses it to hell. The main way I share pics is through texting and now it's just stupid to send a pic through texting since it looks horrid. Never had compression issues on iPhone unless it's through video but I don't care much for that.

How about using a different texting app such as Gosms? You can adjust the maximum mms size in that app.

/system/customize/MNS/default.xml
Look for MMS_Msg_Size1, 2, 3, and MMS_Msg_Size_Choose
Edit values to something like 500K, 1000K, 2000K -- whatever you like. Save, reboot. Might have to clear data on messaging app to get new values to take.
Edit: Current values are in data/data/com.android.mms/shared_prefs/com.android.mms.customizationBySIM.xml. Edit there and reboot.

Need to be running a custom kernel that allow remounting /system as rw. Stock kernel write protects /system so modifications are lost on reboot.
I made some size changes to mine, and now it looks like it doesn't want to send mms messages any longer, text messages work just fine.

if we edit the xml before we flash, will it keep the values or will the stock kernel make it revert back. Thanks for any info

I'm on a HTC One S and I did this too. Apparently the mms app now says the limit is what I've set (that is 1MB), but when I attach a photo this gets compressed nonetheless, even if it's smaller than 1MB.
Are you guys on the HTC One experiencing the same?
That's one main reason I moved away from stock messaging to Textra app. It's way smoother than the stock HTC one messaging not to mention It's light weight, not a memory hogger, very simple and smooth. The others like go sms and handcent are buggy and full of ads. Go to the playstore and try it for yourselves. All of my friends with Androids love it. BTW..it's Free.
