I am in no way saying the devs suck, I'm just saying that I look at the development section at least 4 times a day, and all the ROMs are repetitive.
I was just looking at the Sensation development and it seems like they're way ahead of us.
I love our devs and we would be nothing without them. I'm just wondering if anyone feels the same as me.
Plz don't flame.
Not enough ROMs?
PM the mods and ask wher'd the devs go.

No I'm saying that the ROMs are repetitive. Like there's nothing new. Most all the same ****. Not to say that they're bad or anything.
I agree. I guess it could be a mixture of the whole bootloader issue, and the way these forums were moderated. It greatly discouraged many developers. It could also be that with many other great phones coming out some devs may not have even gotten the EVO 3D to wait for the SGS2 or the next Nexus. Or maybe developing for this phone is harder than it was for the EVO, I don't know since I am not a developer. Hopefully well start seeing some ROM's such as Cyanogen and MIUI soon. Right now all of the ROM's are pretty much the same, just minor tweaks from stock. Not to take anything away from the hard work of those devs.
It's not because of the moderators. It's because there's no official AOSP builds yet.
I agree the only choice is sense 3.0 or senseless 3.0 with various tweaks thrown in. I just know of a few devs that left because of the poor moderating also. Im happy with what the forum has to offer though. The kernels are a huge plus for me.
don't forget that there were some Shipped S-OFF Sensations around before root, and also that their user base, being a global phone, is probably much, much bigger than ours.
nope i found my rom and my kernel and sticking with it until a aosp build is out
I'm hoping the next update will get more stuff going...

What rom and kernel is that cheesy?
Agree I have that same feeling as well slow development but I'm sure great stuff will come
what does the sensation have that we do not?
why do you want aosp builds out that don't work (sound, camera, etc) out for general consumption?
don't you think there are enough d3rp threads for people who don't know how to read?
Check out my kernel. ive posted several updates over the past few days
OP - I totally agree. I seriously almost posted this exact same thing a day ago but was too scared to get flamed. And I'm not saying anything bad about our devs - I was mostly wondering if there are specific technical challenges that are delaying AOSP ROMs. It just doesn't seem like it took this long for anything to release on the OG EVO (or maybe I'm imagining). Also, I remember that I LOVED flashing new AOSP ROMs and kernels, broken camera and everything! That was part of the fun: I flash a ROM today and it makes my phone way faster but breaks the camera, then tomorrow I get the camera back but the system is unstable - either way, I have the most cutting edge firmware in existence every time I flashed a nightly. Please, Devs, if you are holding back because everything isnt functional, there are a lot of us dying to try new stuff out.

Some people have AOSP builds that are 100% working. They're just not releasing them until CM7 is officially brought over.
So I just went through the sensation development thread, I would say the first twenty. And I found nothing interesting. Not one cool, oh that's different ROM. Theyre was a aosp ROM that didn't have audio camera etc, please elaborate O.P. in what they have that we dont

lol - since you ARE knowledge - please enlighten me.
People have ported them and kept them to themselves because of the moderators that we have. The mods for our forum make everything difficult. You see how the R3MIX kernel developer has left, and agrageben(no idea how to spell it) has almost completely left us.

As an AOSP fan this is what I always see...a bunch of Sense roms and a few AOSP roms...sans AOSP.
Not to diminish the efforts of the Sense devs...Synergy is kicking serious ass on my phone right now and I'm loving it....but I can't wait for AOSP CM7/MIUI builds to break everything and build it back up. Not to mention the really extravagant kernels. Bring on the AOSP CFS/UV/HAVS/OC kernels with 80mb roms....

Just curious..Where have all the Devs gone? The first few days the dev section seemed to be on fire! I haven't seen anything new pop up in a bit. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can be asking this question. I know they do this as hobby/passion and for free which is why I'm simply asking for "proof of life".lol.
Anyone know of anything in the works? Giving me even more of a reason to check the forums 100 times a day like a true flashaholic ;-)

Take a walk outside for some fresh air.
Messages like these will not motivate any dev in getting 'cracking'.
what do you mean, it is doing just fine.....they have been plugging away at getting CWM working....which without leaves most users at a disadvantage cuz some people just seem to have issues with oden and ADB. now that they have an alpha of CWM roms will be coming next. and i also think that since ICS is coming up the future that devs are waiting for that. why keep dropping ginger roms? and i see them working on ICS roms as well. we have a stable ginger rom in TPC's/da g's kernel mix. i still see the same devs working and plugging away and we have more now than we did 2 weeks ago...
they are working, and like you said.... they are working on there own time and for FREE.
we should all be greatful. when they stop working be worried.
I think ICS is in the works. The DEV just wants to clean up some of the other issues he is working on. Yes this is vague but I do not want to over step my bounds.

I too am eager however the one and only rom we have is stable. I can wait for ICS as long as it takes. We have an overclock kernel as well. With other devices I have seen dozens of roms and dozens of kernels with only one or two having full functionality. We have been very fortunate. With that said there seems to be less than the usual amount of Development on this device but remember this is brand new. It takes a while... with the streak we only had a few devs and even then at one point really only one dev. Give it a few weeks. If not do like I am and imerse yourself in reading on how to make roms. I develop android apps and have a few in the market, now that does not qualify me to make roms it does mean that I have the ability to learn like many others could do if they were motivated to do so.

I THOUGHT I made it clear that was not my intention at all. Thanks for the other responses they actually answered my question. There are many people like me who are fairly new to this. I am coming from the inspire and when I first got it there were tons of roms available, but I got it 4 months after launch. Then I realized I could have been using the desire HD roms. Can the international rooms be flashed using Odin?

NO. You will brick your device if you try to flash international ROMs, as they have a different processor as well as other various differences that essentially make them completely different beasts with the same form factor.
Reading a bit more would inform you as to why development is slow right now and why you can't flash international ROMs.
To give you the sparknotes version of what's going on however:
As others have said, we only have an alpha version of CWM, so devs are working on getting that polished up.
Second, devs are working on a way to get around the flash counter, so that you do not have any problems with a warranty exchange in the future. If you don't care about your warranty or want to risk a return with a triggered flash counter, go for it. Other phones have had their flash counter bypassed, so I'm sure our talented devs will come up with a solution fairly soon.
Also, as others have mentioned, we have one stable ROM already, and a great kernel, so that should solve most problems with using the stock ROM until more development occurs.
Lastly, with ICS on the horizon, there is not really a good reason to produce a ton of GB ROMs, so be patient and use the stable one we have already until ICS drops in a few months or so.
The longest anybody has had this device is 11 days right now, and we already have a stable ROM and OC/UV capable kernel. In my opinion, that's a damn good start, and I have a feeling that development will eventually be huge on this device. Give it a few months. =]
So funny how everyone keeps talking about ICS like its coming in two weeks! Btw the release date for that that everyone think is coming soon is for the International version!

Nobody here referenced the international release of official ICS. I think most people here know that it doesn't mean anything for our devices. However, it will be here eventually, and devs are most likely already working on porting over an unofficial version.

There are various dev versions of ICS cooking as we speak; and, I also wouldn't be surprised if Samsung surprises everyone with an official version on/around March 15th... including a US version.

I feel the same way. ATT and Samsung know they need to do something to pull ahead of android competition; they've done it with quality android hardware, now they need to do it with consumer peace-of-mind on the software upgrade front. Nowhere has Samsung said that ICS for "international note" is coming in Q1 2012. They merely say it is coming to the "note", period. I think ICS will come for the US variant sooner rather than later. I know when I got my Atrix, people whined and hollared that it would never get GB. ATT delivered GB very soon, to the scorn of the red-faced naysayers. I know the Atrix was Motorola, but its still an example of a carrier pushing a fast update. Samsung is an excellent company, especially with their Android devices. If any company leads the way for quicker full-product-line android upgrades, I'd expect it to be them.
Pure speculation and I'm maybe totally wrong, but I think the US Note will see ICS very soon.

thank you guys and gals
This is the downside of getting a newly launched device. I went thru it with the asus transformer 101. That was a little painful in the beginning, but the brilliant minds solved all the problems. It took about a month to really get rolling.
I picked up the Infuse about a year after launch and it was humming within 3 days cause all the hard work had already been done by those great minds in their forum.
The advantage with the Note is it's really great as a stock phone out of the box.
The smart guys and gals here want to advance just as much as we want them to succeed in making this Note the best it can be. So, Patience, and let them work. When they have something good they will be shouting it as loud as can be.
Support and good words go along way. We appreciate you guys more than you know! Thank you for all your efforts, and time away from your work, family, friends and hobbies to devote to this great piece of hardware.
this forum has gotten more action in the past week then the atrix did in the first 2 months. lol.
Damn you guys that are coming from other forums are spoiled!!! I remember waiting foreeevveer just to flash something on the atrix.. and then when CWM came out i was like "wtf is a CWM?" (atrix was my first android).
Stock rom on this phone is doing pretty well for me .Froze all the bloat, not using touchwiz -- and its like i dont even have anything from Samsung on there (besides the SPEN).
I can do without a rom until ICS comes out.. and that is going to do wonders for this device. ICS on the ATRIX is like a breath of fresh air, cant wait to see it on this beast.
Your right, I guess I was kinda spoiled coming from the inspire/desire HD forums. I never realized how long it takes to get things up and running. I apologize if I came off as being impatient. Again that was NOT my intention. I love these forums and appreciate the Devs hard work immensely.
On another "Note" (I know,I know, sorry) I was at best buy mobile last night where I know a couple sales reps and they mentioned that they hoped someone ported over Ics soon as the Samsung rep they spoke with at their store said Ics won't be coming our way for a good while. I myself take that with a grain of salt though. Do you think that a Samsung sales rep would even really know the Ics release schedule?

I guess I never looked too far into the flash counter. I had read a few threads about it, and people seemed to be convinced that AT&T would get fussy about it. I suppose it doesn't really mean much if you end up putting your phone back to stock and unrooting before returning it. If it wasn't for rooting and such, developers couldn't make apps and flash stuff to the phone, so I guess it doesn't really make sense at all why they would care if the device has been flashed with something else, especially if it is returned to a stock state for a return.

How did the thunderbolt get cyanogen, aosp and miui if HTC never released RIL? Who worked on it and how did they get it up and running?
and again, I know for a fact that the thunderbolt got MIUI (unofficially running), how did they do it and who worked on it (I know the developers but I never understood how and who got the RIL working)?
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/2148-rom...vicious-updated-11-9-2011-fixes-again-1033pm/
There is so much drama surrounding all of this and every time i think i will ask questions, i feel like ppl will come out of my screen and eat my head.
I know droid vicious had miui going, how was it done ?
and also how did all these ppl get s-off for the tbolt ? and why is it such an unachievable goal surrounded my loads of mystery beta testers that have sworn eternity of silence when it comes to our beautiful rezound
SO plz forgive my ignorance if I indirectly insulted someone's mother somehow.
First of all. This information is available to you...if you use the search button.
Slayher did RIL on CM7
I forget who got MIUI going
As for miui on the rezound? That dev you link too is well known for starting something, saying he has it, and dissapearing.
What I don't think you understand, is how hard it is to figuire out RIL for a phone. If memory serves me right slayher took a few months before he had it working. Even then it never worked perfect.
Wanna know why people get pissy? People like YOU who keep asking why RIL isn't done yet, and act like it is as easy as pushing a button frustrate people working on it.
We have an amazing set of devs on this phone, and possibly many more coming if s-off gets released. You will get your CM9 just be patient and respectful.

thanks for answering that Andy, I knew there was something I forgot to say haha.
It isn't that they are hiding in secrecy, to back andy up, it is that the guys who figured out s-off are testing 5-7 different devices. I say 5-7 because I read that they may have 7 devices it works on. Anyway, these devs have asked the beta testers to remain secretive on it, until it is released, and it won't be released until all devices are confirmed working. Personally since the same method works on all of them, I think this is a responsible thing todo. If they released it for say the sensation only, and we found it worked on the rezound, but was really risky and bricked phones, how much of a royal mess would they create.
I don't know about you, but if say AndyBones were to say something concerning the s-off method that he isn't supposed to and then we never got the s-off method for him breaking the s-off groups rules, are you not going to be really mad at him? I am as curious as the next guy to how they achieved s-off, but I want to actually get s-off so I am willing to wait. From what I can tell we can't be more than a few weeks away from s-off.
exactly what I expected
Dont understand the reason for the hostility. You guys make XDA such a friendly place.
I went over what I read again and again, and I did not complain once, either did I bash any developers or undermine their work.
My question simply stated was, did i manage to buy the most complicated phone to develop for in the market?
I compared it to the tbolt bec:
1- I owned it
2- they are both HTC LTE phones.
I didnt understand the mystery of the s-off thing, so i wanted some explanation. Thank you for taking the time out to explain it and crucify me in the process.
I do tons of research before asking someone to help me unlock or root or whatever. But from a user point of view, i wanted a developer , or an experienced user to shed some light on the complexity of the situation. there is very little information on how much more sophisticated the rezound is than the tbolt and why what worked flawlessly for the tbolt does not work for the rezound.
I still do not know what warranted such hostility.... but thx for taking the time out to respond anyway.

Your Welcome
so, in your research, did you happen to look into the fact that the Rezound is kind of a first of its kind with the radios it has?
second, the Tbolt was s-off with what a month or so of being out? maybe two months? and was still months and months and months later until we had cyanogenmod.
In this community we had no s-off then finally got Dev Unlock, which our excellent devs had to learn how to code around. It was new to everyone to not have full access to the phone. Also, as stated, there were a few amazing devs that helped with the Tbolt getting both S-off and with RIL, that we do not have on the rezound.
Third, no one is working on CM7 because why would they when we are so close to have a ICS OTA that will give us kernel source to ICS kernels. My understanding is that we need this source to really get CM9.
I personally have been with Verizon since day 1 of the thunderbolt coming out, and been with the rezound about a month and a half after it came out. I think the biggest problem in this forum, that we didn't have with the thunderbolt, is that people are coming from other carriers or devices where they had s-off from day one, and maybe some form of cm7 from day one, because they didn't start day one with that phone.
Those of us that started day 1 with the thunderbolt, understood it was a brand new phone, brand new type of phone, and a first of its kind. LTE was new on any phone. The people on the thunderbolt forums at the time were very patient, you never saw complaining because s-off wasn't out yet, you never saw complaining that CM7 wasn't out yet. People were patient, because they understood that writing for this phone was new to everybody!
Hello XDA,
As you may or may not know, the official CM9 Project for the HTC Amaze has not died at all. It is being worked on by developers like +Max Krivonos.
I am making this post mainly in hope of educating myself in regards to the development process and things realted to it.
I've been following the project since the day they released the video of what Max got working on the Amaze already. Over the course of many months, cable detection, SD card, and "wifi" was fixed. There are only problems like GSM and the Camera left. Now I understand that Max has been busy with a lot of things considering his comments on his update posts seem to say that, but I am just curious as to how long does it really take to get things like that fixed?
My HTC Amaze is only my second Android device to my HTC Sensation which I only had for about 2 months. I have never really followed a project exclusively so I have no idea as to what the average timeframe is. However, my main concern is that Max "opened the repo", and a leak for the ICS update already came out. Shouldn't this help a lot? There are already many developers who are pushing out very clean ROMs based off of the leak, and there's only around 2 problems with more than 1 developer working on the issues. How long does it really take?
I didn't want to bother Max and other devs by asking them because I'm sure they have a lot of things on their hands anyways. Like I said before, this is not meant to be negative in any way. I simply want to learn about this, because I have been very eager waiting for CM9 like everyone else.

i may be wrong so don't hold me to it. but i believe they need the wifi drivers which htc has not released yet to fully remove sense and get everything working. like i said i'm not positive but i think i read that somewhere else.
I think someone said Max quit working on it, and has posted his build online somewhere. As the poster above me said, it is because of the lack of source code atm. Once the ICS leak becomes "official", HTC should release the code. Keep in mind we're not really supposed to have this leak at the moment.
Max posted over a week ago that he was stopping his work on it as "he is just too busy" and released the repo.

Gosh, I had no idea because I couldn't find anything like that on Google+
Who will be working on it? I guess another thing i'm trying to ask is if it's impossible to derive the source-code from the leak.
Well I definitely understand were your coming from but I think we just have to be patient like its hard trying to pull the drivers that are specifically made for the sense it takes time to try and rework those drivers for an aosp rom so I guess it would be wise to just be patient and wait to see what spot or xboarder is doing. I know xborarder is on android-dev.us and he's working with a couple of ppl on a Tom so just be patient man.

Depends of the guys, i really appreciate the work of developers, but in 1 month, i see like 4 or 5 updates, with annoying updates like, NEW KEYBOARD, CHANGED BUILD.PROP and others, but nothing with NEW KERNEL, if possible get 3 or 4 developers to do 1 thing!! Or Stable kernel only in 2014 :/

A few questions:
There are not many devs left here. Do you think it is a good idea criticize our work like that?
Are you saying you don't want any updates unless it is a new kernel?
Have you considered trying to build a kernel yourself instead of complaining?
Just asking.....
I heard that the devs working on porting the XOOM kernel have progressed. Hopefully in due time...
It will, it's under development.

Im not criticating man, i really appreciate your work, you win my 10+ repp i only said that these updates dont be affect anything that the guys test. Because, i see much guys from here, and from other forums, that trying ICS several weeks because it have a new update, did you understand? hehe
Dont think wrong about my answr ;P
What exactly is the point of threads like this? People around here are getting just too good at nothing but whining and complaining. FYI, opening a thread like this is exactly the same thing as asking for ETAs, and I really hope everyone knows you NEVER ask for ETAs here. Instead of littering the forum with useless whiny adn wallowy threads like this, you could have helped the development efforts yourself. But no, people would rather just sit around idly and complain and whihe.
If you want a stable and fully functional ICS/JB right away, get a different device. If you want it in some undefined time, have patience, be supportive and QUIT ASKING. Better yet, instead of just waiting, take initiative and MAKE IT HAPPEN YOURSELF.
Hey Guys, I've reported this thread. I've got fed up with threads like these. Only asking for ETAs, growing up a bad mood... not throwing good vibes at all. We need patience, not ETAs. If you need a kernel so bad, then you've gotta have patience. That'll do the trick

wow, you've reported this thread?! all the guy was asking was how things are progressing. After the initial excitement of the ics leak there hasn't been anything of very much. He said he appreciated the work of the people who put the time and effort into trying to keep our phone as current as possible. Who do you think you are Ravilov labeling someone as whiny and wallowing (although just what you think the poster is wallowing in is beyond me - he asked a simple question). As for your pathetic 'no one asks for eta's' comment... I can only assume you've been spending too much time here.
Thankfully, the question was answered bu Syl and takemeouttt.
This is a forum, where people ask questions and, hopefully, get civil and informative answers.
1) New Keyboard -- Because people wanted to try the new keyboard with 'Swype'-like features.
2) build.prop edits -- Because different people are having different issues with the ICS roms. Devs are pretty much taking stabs in the dark to see which combination helps which device. (tegra part?)
3) Xoom Kernel Port -- Is compiled, but will be a while before everyone can test it and/or have a stable release (source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941654)
As for your original question, there's a strong possibility we might, but don't expect it anytime soon. If it was that easy, Motorola would have done it at the same time they did it for Xoom. Remember, developers might also upgrade to newer devices. Would seem pointless to develop for a device--that even the manufacturer abandoned, when you have a shiny new device.
The current "team" of developers ARE working "together". In my experience, it's hard to collaborate on something with another person remotely, but they seem to be managing it. Going by the thread, there are at least 2 active developers. Might be others who aren't updating in the thread, but are simply contributing by email and/or other ways?
This thread may or may not be pointless. I think if it gets closed at this point, it might help someone trying to find a simple answer without going through 1000's of posts in the development section.

I bought an atrix 2 weeks ago, i'm waiting to the delivery from China, so i think i would keep it for a year
I think that the community is simply misguided.
There is not a single post which clearly explains that we hit a brick wall regarding battery life.
Not knowing that, it IS frustrating to see a "new update!!" as the title of the ROM post and find only minor graphical changes inside.
There is a simple way to solve that, we need a sticky with an explanation regarding the entire Atrix ICS issue.
It should have a brief explanation that the ICS and JB roms that we have now are incomplete and generally suffer from graphical issues due to the old kernel constrains and even though we have a leaked version of the original ICS kernel, it is only barely functional and in most cases far from being a daily driver.
It will save a LOT of browsing (for me at least) since I check almost daily on the progress in the development section and it is quite a hassle to browse through all the latest comments for a clue of any changes or new ideas of how to make the rom work better and it will inform all those that don't bother checking and simply end up disappointed in the new changes.
Creating such a post is easy and I can do so if you'll approve of my idea, but the major point is to make it sticky and up to date, even if the update is simply updating the title just to show that no progress regarding kernel development/ ICS implementation for the Atrix was made.
I have no problems updating it either.
I adore the dev community here and all of you guys.
It's nice to see optimism where other developers and testers would just give up.
I love you guys and keep up the nice job. :highfive:

I think epinter tried taking the kernel from either the galaxy r and other similar phones and came out with the same issues as we get with the leaked kernel.

Tough to say if it will ever happen, but at least there are a few people still interested enough to try. Seems the current best hope is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016837
All the top devs are working on the kernel plz support them by donating something try reading QandA section
