Any Manual Tweaks for EVO4GLTE ?? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I see lots of stuff about scripts to remove bloatware, tweak battery, etc. but is there any listings of what all can be removed as bloatware without causing issues? I rather do everything by hand so I know what's going on. Makes it easier yo troubleshoot.

Rom Cleaner! You have a default txt file and you can add/remove apks from the list to uninstall. As for the list I don't have it but it's pretty much straight forward. Take a look at it and give a try

My general rule of thumb is if it sounds important it is so leave it lol...anything thats a widget a wallpaper google *unless using rom with google now learned from experience* sprint for the most part like sprint zone bs ringtones notify sounds that gay little beats symbol up top when you plug in aux/headphones i havent messed with stock net browser or messages tho not sure about them would love to find out tho umm calendar clock camera if you use another stay away from framework.apk and htc.res.framework.apk....honestly ive learned from just trying all you have to do is either a. Have a nandroid b. Titanium backup *must have* or c. Both i usually go with and reccomend option c....hope that helps you out man

(Q) Best apps for rooted users?

I wanted to know what sweet apps people use to take full advantage of root. I'm running Ginger bread and want to know if I'm missing out on anyother cool things with root?
Sent from my Ginger Tazz using Tapatalk
I wouldn't say that you're missing it, but here are a few of the apps that I consider requisite (for myself) when flashing new rom's on a regular basis:
TitaniumBackup - a must. spend the extra for the paid version. Very handy for restoring apps and settings. I figure it paid for itself the first time I ran batch operations.
DialerOne - a phone app similar to the stock Sense version that has T9 equipped for keypad dialing... (eg: I press 666 for "Mom")
HandcentSMS - my preferred messaging app.
Wireless Tether - at least I don't have to pay for mobile hotspot
The rest are just the typical apps I DL should I need them:
1337pwn (xbox friends list), dopewars, ebay, fandango, google maps/skymaps/my tracks, gps status, IMDB (satisfies my inquiries for random movie trivia), Mint (finances), speedtest, Swype
...and of course, the XDA Premium app! Seriously, its $1- why wouldn't you have it?
Thanks man I got Dailer one

There's a nice list over on AF in the Droid X root forum (http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/131944-favorite-root-applications.html). Credit to Trident for gathering these up over there. Note: these are not Droid X specific.
Here's the short version:
Titanium Backup
Root Explorer
Terminal Emulator
CacheMate
Drocap2
Wireless Tether for Root Users
AdFree Android
GScript
AutoKiller
Reboot Control Widget
SetCPU
Temp Monitor
I would put Quickboot in there too (along with my AFV app, of course).
Cheers!
To me, the whole essence of rooting your phone is the control and freedom you gain. Don't like the OS, change it. Don't like a protected app, uninstall. Boot animation, change it. Volume not loud enough, turn it to 11. Colors, change them. Need more storage, move data apps to system, or data cache to cache, cache. Cpu not fast enough, overclock it.
Android becomes whatever You want it to be. Not what some board room marketing geniuses said they thought it should be.

Lag?

My homescreen isn't as smooth as the video reviews ive seen and was just curious if its because I didn't do the ota update or if my unit is defective? Just getting some pointers. I tried deleting sine Widgets. Launcher pro is sluggish as well. I'm trying to see if maybe an app I installed could be the cause
I notice when I run a live wall paper its pretty bad as well. I used a program to backup my apps off my old EVO and restored just the apps on my 3d....I'm starting to wonder if that may be the cause??
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Sinse I updated my E3D, the homescreen hasn't been smooth either. Maybe its a bug.
Haven't updated yet but it runs like a beauty right now. Can't complain!
No update so no lag... WINNING
E3D
No update and my **** is smoother than Billy D Williams.
No update, the Green Friggin Hornut can wait. Smooth as butter with live wallpaper and ADW Launcher EX and several widgets.
My OG EVO would stutter with the live wallpaper.
I did all the updates and mine runs GREAT!! NO lag whatsoever

I did the updates, and then hard reset.

Hope they fix this in an update sometime soon

What did you use to restore your apps? I would suggest trying a factory reset, then install your apps back one at a time. You can use an app called 'app list backup' to save just a list of the apps you use. Then when you restore, it takes you right to the market to download the apps you need, one at a time. If you still have lag after the factory reset, then I'd be a bit concerned (my phone has 0 lag at all). What type of lag are you talking about? Scrolling homescreens? Opening apps? Scrolling your contacts? All of the above?
I'm pretty smooth..and as the day goes by I am more satisfied with the phone..this may be s stupid question ..but what is a hard reset ? A battery pull

A hard reset basically brings the phone back to the state in which HTC sent the phone to sprint. Deletes everything accept for the operating system.

Ima try that and see if it works. Ima do a factory reset and restore my apps one by one. Because none of my apps show up in in the market when I go to "my apps" menu.....just shows my purchased apps so I can't update them at all.
The lag is mainly rough scrolling through home screens and small delay when opening messaging app like 2 seconds....
I think the phone was smooth when I got.it but I can't remember. If it still rough after this ima take it back tomorrow and exchange it

[ROM]GerbilSense-6 Shooter-w/Netarchy Kernel-updt 08/08--MORE GOODIES-THE FASTEST ROM

Hello folks and this is my 1st rom for the Evo 3D. I call it the 6 shooter because it is light weight, fast and deadly
even without overclock this rom is FAST! OC just makes it insane!
This Rom includes all the apps, kernels, tweaks, boobies and such that I like to use. If you don't like something sorry, you can find what you want around these forums and add as you like.
Thanks to Netarchy, I love his Kernels and find them to be the best. Also to Mik (unknowingly) i learned alot from following him and asking questions and tearing his roms apart, visit his page and donate to him because without his work i wouldn't be making this rom !
Included is Netarchy's kernel. I find OC'd to 1.7 gives me a very smooth, fast, stable experience, with outstanding battery life. Now onto some goodies....
Odexed (651.7 base)
Adfree
D7 Google Reader
File Expert (easily mounts system to file alterations)
Bloatware can be destroyed in the settings menu
Removed Crappy ringtones and notifications that bugged me (like my marriage)
Mms no compression (she is fat) and max mms 5mb (default setting)
3D Homescreen Display setting
Hotspot hack with usb tether
Extended reboot menu
Browser settings popped loose
Browser tabs unlimited (go wild)
Hidden quicksettings now visible
Removed GPS icon when not in use (thanx Mik)
Removed the ultra annoying (like a nagging wife) USB debug icon (thanks again Mik, love your ideas)
Known Issues
-hot restart in the menu doesn't work, requires battery pull.
Normal and hot restart is determined by the fastboot option in the power settings.
There are not screenies because it is stock..and if you don't know what stock looks like, well you don't have the phone
***Disclaimer***you the end user assumes all the risk and responsibility with flashing this or any rom. I will not buy you a new phone, send you money, give you a voucher or any compensation you can think of because you destroyed your phone. Thanks.
older links removed, onto better things below.............................................
Updated 8/07/2011
-removed more bloat such as
-HTC widgets were removed beside music and calender
-mail app (gmail is all is use, if you need it search forums, its there)
-couple of framework thingAmAjigs
-460mb of ram available
-new Alpharev boot animation
-panoramic camera added
-sync and phone icon missing fixed.
-Green overscroll and sync fix included in zip below
-Battery percentage
Updated 8/8
-removed even more bloat--now 490 free ram---if you flash, skip setup, reboot then look at task manager you will have 470-490mb of ram free
-attatched is stock task bar--will free up even more ram!
When you setup accounts, set up your google first, finish and let it sync. Then you can do all the rest. Noticed for some reason it helps.
Download Here
OR HERE
Many questions about why i removed the email app, because i think it was worthless. I use this one because its faster, and better for enterprise, its from the Epic 4G. Thanks
Thanks to JoelZ9614!!! Panoramic camera-if you downloaded a previous version of this rom otherwise as of 8/6 9:37 EST it is included in rom-push to /system/app...download here
removed widgets-(CLICK THIS ENTIRE LINK TO DOWNLOAD)---place the ones you want in /system/app folder and reboot---if you dont' see it when you click widget at top it will say "browse all HTC widgets and it will be there.

Where can I find the Netarchy Kernel you have used for this Rom?

TITANIUM BACKUP USERS! Which apps do you Freeze?

Was just curious...
I currently have
Android Keyboard 2.3.6 - Don't use it
Badge Provider1.0
Calendar 1.0 - Theres a 1.1 I'm using.
ChocoEUkor 1.0
Clock 1.0 - Theres 2 of these...
Com.Samsung.app.playreadui 2.3.6
com.samsung.inputeventapp 1.0.0
CSC 1.0
Mobile Print 1.4.1 - Don't use it
Pico TTS 1.0 - Don't use it
Samsung Keypad 2.3.6 - Don't use it
Samsung TTS 1.0 - Don't use it
Service Mode 2.3.6
Speech Recorder 2.3.6 - Don't use it
wipeoutreciver 1.0
So what do you all have disabled and have you noticed any gains in performance/battery life?
I don't freeze a single thing....I download every rom and completely tear it apart. Anything that would be froze I just completely delete the APK....pretty much every one in your list and a hundred more. I also delete all the apps that installed to the system such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.....and just reinstall from the market. Makes the rom super light shedding crazy MBs....no running system crap....pretty much if I clear my ram there is five things running in services until I launch something....I have been on Omega for over a month and a half with NO issues whatsoever running Codeworx kernel and getting 16 hours up with 5 1/2 hours of screen on and about 45 minutes of voice calls not to mention texts all day.

CM9 DX2 gutting

I came from a blackberry where gutting the os is a way of life.
What all can be removed without affecting function, while freeing up space?
So far, from system/apps, I have dropped most of the live wallpapers and apps I don't use
I have tried deleting ringtones I don't use but that put me into a boot loop and had to wipe and reload.
Any ideas on how to safely delete more useless files?
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
it really doesn't gain you anything other than a placebo effect if you are used to devices with less than sufficient memory. The Dx2 has lots of memory and CM9 doesn't come with bloatware.

From what I have already cleaned up I can tell a difference is less lock ups already. The available ram went from 86% used to 69%
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
Freezing some apps will free RAM, especially on services you don't use if those apps run by default. However the live wallpaper apk is not running if you aren't using one from that package, therefore it is redundant. If you don't use corporate exchange, try freezing the email.apk and the exchange.apk. If you feel adventurous, nandroid your cm9 and freeze all the apps that don't look important. If you get stuck with a bootloop, simply nandroid back. Simple.
I recommend freezing RomManager (we can't use it).
It wont free up RAM, but it will stop Google Play from updating it.

What I have been doing is each morning I freeze one app, I use my phone all day and if there are no problems I delete it the next morning and freeze a new one.
So far I think I've done some good with my phone since I have deleted everything I can from the system folder.
The trick to deleting ringtones is confirm all profiles are set to the same ringer and notification. Then delete all the others.

Well then you have done something amazing, since the Android memory manage strives to keep RAM around 80% full all the time, by design and that's how it works best. If you remove every single app you should be able to achieve around 90% free and everything should run like liquid butter. And yes, this Alpha is more stable if you do not touch the phone or run anything.

Grab a 50lbs weight and go run up a hill. Now do it again with 20lbs. What's easier running with more useless weight or less?
I loaded a task manager widget that shows percentage of memory used (ram) i went from 60/404 to 123/404 after dropping useless files.
With all due respect the Android OS is nothing more than an Iphone with Blackberry problems. I have used all 3 i like Droid best but it has room for improvement, as everything does.
Im applying what i learned from the BBos to this one and it appears to work. Now you can be a negative fly on the wall all you want but someone else will read this topic and try it. Once a few do it and my results are duplicated you'll see it was useful to try something
Plus what's the worst that happens, you boot loop and have to reload?
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
Just a little check in.
I booted up this morning at 193/404 that's using 52% ram
I took everything out of system/apps i could and cleaned any app off my phone i don't or can't use. I also enabled "long hold back button to kill apps" instead of jumping back to the home screen when im done in an app i kill it.
All the above are habits i learned to service on a blackberry.
I wish more people would try and get my results.
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
with all due respect unless you have rewritten the Android OS, it simply doesn't work like that.
. Android likes to keep memory about 70-80 % full once it settles so that when it needs a task you were using before its faster to reactivate it than to load from scratch. You can kill things, but the OS will load them again anyway. If you fight that with 3rd party mem / task managers, it will degrade performance, not improve it. But if you insist on believing some fantasy about memory management. by all means ....
Maybe im wording this wrong.
Would it help if i changed the title to gutting an android.
I love CM9, ive even bought the developer a case of beer. Hahaha
Im not doubting what the system wants to do. Im just trying to guide it better by removing worthless files and managing ram with white and black lists.
For example I dont need dropbox to be running in the background when im not using it.

You will notice a big Jump in performance if you stop using a task manager.
You are better off playing with min free values and oom adj values.
I understand removing apps and files you don't use, I.do the same thing on my nexus.
But when it comes down to it, the task manager app is REALLY doing more harm than good. Of course when you use the task manager its going to seem like its doing what you want it to, thats how the apps are written, so that you FEEL like you're getting results you want.
Fact is, task managers haven't been needed in android OS for a log time now. Most ESPECIALLY if you are running an ICS based rom.
Trust me, if you wanna see an increase in overall smoothness, mess with min free and oom settings, and dump the task manager.
Or just keep doing what you're doing, just don't get offended when almost everyone tells you that clearing apps from memory and using task manager to kill apps is doing more harm then good.
There is a HUGE difference between an app RUNNING in background, and an app being cached in RAM. If you go to your manage apps list in settings and go to running apps, you most likely won't have many apps actually running and hogging system resources. If you switch to the cached tab you SHOULD see lots of apps in cache. Which means next time you open them it will open faster and use A LOT LESS CPU to get it going.
I do agree with getting rid of appd and files you don't use tho. I have ALWAYS felt that removing apps that are cached in ram that I do not use, will give more space for apps that I DO use to be cached.
But a task manager will not grant you that ability.
I feel like i learned something new today
Thank you

I also just wanna apologize, I didnt mean to come off condescending (I just re read what I posted Lol)
was just trying to inform a bit.
Any questions don't hesitate to ask. Android operates like.Linux, but not EXACTLY like Linux even tho it is VERY similar. A good thread to read on how is memory management works is the official v6supercharger thread started by zeppelinrox. That guy has torn thru the android os on the memory management level and his first few posts in that thread(even tho they may not make the most sense to you at first) have a LOT of valuable info in them.

Did you also turn on the option.in v6supercharger for the nitro lag nullifier also? It used to be option #20 i believe.
I always did and i swear, (placebo or not), it used to smooth out everything even more.
Then on top of v6, i would also run Kick ass kernelizer(KAK) with. I/O tweaks implemented (make a nandroid first just in case it bootloops ya..if it bootloops just pull battery and.put back in then plug phone into wall,.it will.boot BSR(since our bsr hijacks charge.mode) & you can restore nandroid) and it would be even more buttery.
Enjoy!
I'm glad I could help turn you away from task managers/killers
Your Android experience should improve greatly
Did the kak at lunch. Running nicely so far.
