If I were to file a claim for a replacement today, would I still get a X2? My phone got wet, but is still usable and I dont want to get another of this crap phone...
I would think so. I went to a Verizon store not that long ago and the DX2 was still on display. So they are apparently still manufacturing and selling them. Which means you would probably get the same phone. Unless you get lucky. You definitely wouldn't be given the choice of a nexus or anything like that though.
I really can't imagine that they are still making this phone. It hasn't been on VZW's site for a while. Where I work we are a VZW authorized reseller and they sold the last X2 a couple of months ago. How would we find out if they still have X2 stock? Just call them? lol

Interesting... Did you have to ask for a different phone or did they tell you that they are out of X2's? Can you request a Dinc2 or is it luck of the draw between the D3 and Dinc2? I DO NOT want a crappy Moto phone again, I would take a Dinc2 any day over these pieces of crap...

you get the choice, I jumped ship. I'm going to the Droid Incredible 2.
they said that because our DX2 isn't being produced anymore we can get either the D3 or the Inc2.
getting it on saturday!
AWESOME news! I am totally getting a Dinc2 then! Sure it isn't dual core but everything I have read everywhere has said that it is a much better phone on all levels than the X2, plus there is actually some dev support since it isn't a crappy locked bootloader... Goodbye Craporola!

the only thing that made the decision difficult for me was the fact that D3 is dual core. I don't really like the screen on the D3, or the form factor or the camera. But it *should* be able to run the N64 emulator at playable frame rates, well good playable. But DInc2 already has a very stable CM9 and CM10 is out and I think in alpha.
really for me I just had to get out of Motorola. They lost a customer and all my friends

I understand that, believe me. I went from the X2 to the Samsung Fascinate. The fascinate is a single core, but it's unlocked, and it has multiple support from Cyanogen through CM9/10. So, honestly, it kicks the X2's butt in my book. Plus I got it for on the cheap (didn't go through asurion)

Well turns out that I didn't have a tough decision at all... They sent me a Nexus! I couldn't believe it but all I did was ask for it and they sent it! Came this morning UPS overnight and Saturday delivery. Wow, I am blown away, this is awesome! I am guessing that this is something they wouldn't normally do, guess I just got lucky :good:
I was willing to settle for a Dinc2, but this is monumentally better!
I filed a claim with Asurion after my DX2 was acting up. Sure, I could wipe it and start again but I figured I could get a new phone. Well, they offered me the DINC 2 and I asked if I could be upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus since my phone was the top of the line when I got it and the DINC is subpar at best. I had seen on another post that they did this and it worked. They put me on hold while they checked and, sure enough, they said they would send me one. The customer service rep seemed a bit surprised but I guess they are doing this a lot now. It should be coming this Tuesday.
So if anyone wants to upgrade... just ask and they will probably send you a Nexus. Not a bad upgrade, especially since I get to stay off plan and keep my unlimited minutes.

That seems a bit short. I'm still happy with my purchase and hope this doesn't stop HTC from supporting it later on (I know it won't be soon) and that the devs may lose interest... Oh well. Maybe i'll scrap some cash together and just grab a desire when it comes out... who knows.
**Sorry for the poor title. I didn't catch it til it was too late.**
it's really all verizon's fault, they NEVER promoted the eris, and if you went in there wanting to buy one they would push the droid on you like no tomorrow.
hopefully this doesnt stop them from releasing the 2.1 OTA update to the general public, it will really help development along for us. Someday, when my eris dies I will upgrade (damn that incredible looks so good...) but until that day, I dont regret a single thing about it. except for installing leak, good thing a got a replacement though
It always seemed to me like the Eris has been advertised as Verizon's cheaper (even free for a lot of us) alternative to the Droid, and it did it's job well.
With the Incredible and Nexus One and all of the other phones (probably) coming out soon I'd expect the Droid to take the Eris' place in the lineup, like a "Buy a new HTC Incredible and get a Motorola Droid FREE" kind of deal.
ah.... oh well...
Looks like I will be upgrading soon... and paying the full price too lol, since I JUST started my contract on November 2009... oh well technology comes and goes.. and I'll have a new testing device!

Why would you upgrade that quick? The eris still has quite a few miles left in her. Early adopters can be very annoying sometimes. I have a friend (kind of) that buys a new macbook everytime there is a refresh. Drives me bat**** crazy to pay several hundred dollars more for something that does only a little more than the old one...

We all know technology changes daily be it hardware or software or whatever...
Cell phones, pda's ect are particularly susceptible as they are market driven and manufacturers are always trying to come out with the "Next Big Thing".
Hell the moto droid is now available on several websites for 20 bucks on a new 2 year...Letstalk.com etc...
Being a former 8 year blackberry user I can say this for Android at least theyre not just putting a new facade over a dated os\ui . So long as my eris doesnt melt down at the end of life date I'm good. Also so long as you're a VZW customer you'll get support for your device even if it is minimal.
I always felt the Eris was kind of an afterthought, the way they marketed it.

It's just a thought for now... I haven't totally decided but I will wait and see what the HTC incredible or whatever VZW comes out with, has to offer... if its something like an amazingly fast phone I'll probably get it.. if not I will stay with the Eris.. I don't hate the Eris, I think it is one amazing phone
plus I'd still be on here [XDA] using the Eris for testing stuff, helping out as much as I can..
looking at the incredible's spec sheet though, it's really worth the upgrade, i mean... it literally DOUBLES most of the specs, the re resolution of the screen is 480x800... the eris' screen is 480 in LENGTH, that's pretty impressive. Will i get the incredible? if i had the money, which i dont, so i will stay with my eris for as long as I deem fit, because honestly, it's a damn good phone for what it's worth.
and what about in six more months after that and they double the specs on the incredible

exactly... I will see when i comes out what people are saying first.. and the eris is an amazing phone for the price. I really dont think you can beat the value.
After rocking an HTC Touch for 1.5 years, I bought a brand new Eris from someone and avoided a contract reset just a week ago. I think it's a great phone, and I have no regrets. I can upgrade anytime but I'm still on a very good Alltel contract so I want to hold out as long as I can before switching to a VZW plan. It does everything I need it to do.
Has anyone heard anything more about this? I'd like to know if it's actually going to happen or not. Although I'm sure if it is we'll find out soon.. I'd also like to know if they'd offer us an upgrade for free or at least half price. If they stop doing the phone completely I think they should at least offer us something. I'd love to upgrade to the Incredible if it was free or half price..
why would they give us a new phone simply because they've stopped selling it?
If you have to do a warranty replacement or anything like that, I'm sure there is a large multitude of backup units, and once those run out/they stop carrying those, verizon will simply replace it with a phone of equal value and hardware features like they always have done for discontinued phones.

I just read an article about the nexus one being scrapped. Thought you just another person complaining because they were impatient. I'll eat my words and apologize now.
yeah, the nexus one is pretty dead.
plagued by 3g problems, and low sales, the only thing to really look forward to in picking one up over another phone like the incredible is that it it's wireless N chipset miiiiiiiiiiight (big might) get support soon.
honestly, for the price you'd be better off getting an incredible and waiting for root to get vanilla-android.
and man, why do people hate sense ui so much? the only ONLY problem it has is how laggy it can get. and on the eris? honestly, I expected it when I bought it looking at the specs. but upgrading to 2.1 got rid of ALL the lag for me. I love the look and extra screens of sense.
and jebus... the incredible is rocking DOUBLE the cpu and ram hardware, using nearly the same rosie build as the eris. it will be faster then us on 2.1 out of the freaking box, and with root... you'll be blazing through apps like crazy.
Noticing a whole stack of them in the case at a local Bestbuy, I asked 2 store managers and 2 other dept employees about the new Razr. They ALL said it was a non-event, although Motorola had invested $mils in advertising. Evidently, it was designed and put into production months ago, and nowadays that's just not quick enough for the Android market. Things simply evolve much faster than Motorola's bureaucracy can adjust.
Biggest reason customers put it back on the shelf: Soldered in, non-replaceable battery.
Reason #2 : The screen is a yawner. It's boring, old news.
Reason #3 : It's new, it's gonna have bugs, and customers simply don't have to put up with that.
#4: $299 w/contract - and you're stuck with it for 2 years.
Is this phone locked? Can it be flashed? Just curious - one of them told me it can't be rom'ed. Would Mot be that monopolistic ?
According to one of the phone-dept workers, a good chunk of sales have been returned overnight after a disappointing unboxing/testing.
Frankly, I thought the phone was a pretty solid piece of work - especially compared to the plastic Samsungs. I love it's little slots on the side for XD cards, NICE touch. But alas, the screen is, well, is just isn't. Not with the 1200x800's about to hit around Thanksgiving.
Oh well, one of them said Mot's is already planning a Razr-2 in Jan to fix all this stuff, but now they're behind the power curve. Who knows.
I think Amazon offering the phone for $111.11 or Costco including $100+ in extras is why Best Buy isn't selling many.

This.
Also the phone needs recovery at this point I believe. It can certainly be "Rom-ed" but it just can't be "Kernel'ed". That is a pretty lame deal breaker if you want a phone simply to install different kernels to boost your quadrant scores that no one cares about.
If you ask me I agree the phone is amazing, I love it. The screen is mind blowing to me, so I have no problem paying that and being in a contract for it. I guess one needs to consider all the options customers have at this point, mainly with the iphone on verizon now. Every average jo wants an iphone just cause his neighbor has one.
Anyone true tech enthusiast wouldn't buy from Best Buy LOL (I've went there with a friend that insisted I do for Black Friday). That place is terrible and is a total rip off. Geek squad and the employees (I haven't spoke to a single one that seems to know what they're doing/talking about) yeah they're something else. I highly doubt there's going to be a RAZR 2 coming out in Jan, it's probably the DROID 4, which has similar design but also has a physical keyboard. If it definitely is the the RAZR 2 this will be my last Motorola phone period. If their solution is to just make a new device like 2-3 months later, instead of supporting their most current phones, then that's a bad business model for sure.
Sure there probably will be a RAZR 2, but I personally hope not, seeing it would kinda tarnish the fact that it's a unique device/name series. But yeah with Amazon selling the device for 111.11 on 11/11 and Costco with that beast package, and a good majority of people pre ordering to get the phone early (one day w00t). It's not a surprise that Best Buy isn't pushing the phones like hotcakes. Also I would take anything that Best Buy tells you about Android rumors with a grain of salt.
I wouldn't go to best buy if they were the ONLY brick and mortar selling phones. I'd wait the 2 days for UPS.
Anyone with good common sense wouldn't go to BB for their phones even with their instant rebate deals. Their "insurance" plan is a rip off and the fact Amazon was selling it for 111.11 on the day of release (as someone said earlier) is reason enough for BB to not see this phone flying off shelves.
Add to the fact, all the advertising dollars Verizon spent, pointed to the phone being sold BY VERIZON STORES. I have a friend who works for verizon and she sold out of the RAZR within a couple hours and her store had a couple hundred of them.
SO don't go drinking Best Buy's kool aid. Especially when they know nothing of phones (let alone the products they sell as a whole)
the OP is completely full of crap... so is anyone else that says the removable battery is a "no go". did the soldered in battery hurt Iphone?
the screen on this phone is fantastic, anyone who wants to complain about it is a person that will never be happy with anything.
bugs? this is the least buggy phone that i have ever owned.
im nowhere near a moto fan boy, but these complainers need to jus STFU, the Razr is a sweet phone.......

I lol'd. BB is terrible for computers/phones etc (Newegg for life!). Anyways the fact that they're saying there's a RAZR 2 coming out in like 4 months yeahhh no. Droid 4 probably aka RAZR jr w/ a keyboard, will be nice for those that crave physical keyborads. But I doubt moto is gonna pull another "Bionic" deal with the RAZR. Replacing their flagship so soon after it comes out, I'm trying to retain faith lol.

I don't think so. Motorola have learnt this from his past. Milestone was buggy.. but watch at the first ATRIX ROM: there wasn't any important bug at all. They've only enhanced its speed with the updates as personally I haven't noticed any bug.
And anyway, every first S/W version of every pda has got some bugs, that's absolutely normal, with the exception that Motorola is very fast at updates.

This device is another exception in Motorola's policies. Moto uses to sign their devices forever, but as Moto said and confirmed publicly, like happened on ATRIX for the Gingerbread update, when RAZR will get ICS, Moto will give us an unlockable bootloader, thing that is SURE for non branded devices and for branded ones (like Verizon's...) it's about the operator.

I know of some guys that have bought the RAZR, unboxed, tested for 30 minutes and then re-sold it. It was too big for their hands. I don't know other bad things as for now.
Anyway, in my opinion, you should try the device in a store prior buying it, especially if it is a big device and you've got small hands.

Yes! Cause we all know that Best Buy store employees are always right !!!!
Since I agree with most of these Bestbuy comments, I made a trip over to the Verizon store. Hit 3 actually, one is the largest in the state. Guess what - there were dozens of new razr's in stock there too.
Not convinced, I asked around, speaking to 3-4 employees in each store. They all said the same thing the Bestbuy people did - the phone is a 7 month old semi face lift of some earlier Mot phone, and simply put nobody cares for it and nobody's impressed. Same list of complaints earlier in this thread.
"What's everybody waiting for" I asked? Everyone said the same thing: the high res screens that are about to hit. Namely the SAMSUNG Nexus is the first of a long list of new generation phones, we may see 6-7 by EOY they told me
So, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, so feel free to yell at me if it's not. I currently have a DX2, but will probably be getting a new phone today. I'm kind of (barely) torn between a Rezound and a Razr. I mainly want to get rid of my DX2 because it seems that we'll be locked in the bootloader section for a while, and it doesn't seem to be worth it anymore. Would this be the better device to get? Anyone regretting their purchase of the Rezound? Also, does it appear the Rezound will be completely unlocked soon?
There is nothing to not like about this phone. It feels so good in your hand, runs smoothly, and will have great dev support once rooted. By far the best phone on the market

I realize I'm probably speaking to a biased crowd, but I appreciate the info. I think the DX2 is losing support fast. They're doing some great stuff looking for some info about the bootloader, but I'm not sure they're going to be able to get in there. Looks like I shall be joining the ranks of the Rezound tonight. Thanks.

The ubiquitous "they" (whoever that is) are working on s-off, meaning that at some undetermined point in the future, we may have an unlocked bootloader. No guarantees, but I would put the odds pretty good in our favor that we'll have it within a few months. Fortunately, the phone works pretty well with the stock ROM (yes, even with the bloatware.) And if you really can't stand the bloatware, there are methods using temp root to de-bloat your phone until a permanent solution is discovered.
As far as the hardware, it's solid, large but not overly cumbersome; I did not feel like I went from a 3.7" screen to a 4.3" screen just by the feel in my hand, but my eyes certainly notice the difference. Also, it's fast: like I said, even without de-bloating there are no hiccups or interface lag whatsoever.
And you can wear overpriced, over-hyped red earbuds, to show everyone you bought the newest, shiniest phone.
No regrets getting this phone whatsoever. Just anxiously waiting for root ... but to be honest, it wouldn't be the end of the world if root is never achieved. I'm completely satisfied with the phone. *fingers crossed*
I came from the X2, you will think you never owned a smartphone before, lol. You may even throw your X2 at the wall.

funny you say that because when i goto the verizon store i disregard all motorola lol
Hi. I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but what the heck. I've owned an HTC Incredible for almost 24 months and this past Saturday I dropped it glass first onto the concrete. Needless to say, I have an x2 UPS should be dropping off at my house today. I'm looking forward to the larger screen and dual core CPU.
After browsing the developer forums, I am disappointed how little ROM selection there is. I read this is because Motorola locks down their system. I had the choice of an Incredible 2 or this. I chose this, so I hope I won't be disappointed.
About me: I have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, so I hope to help test out ROMs as much as possible after I root. Which shouldn't take too long to talk myself into it . I'm more of a lurker than a poster. That's all for now.

Welcome. Since you are coming from an HTC phone, you may get a little frustrated with how much you cant do on a Motorola phone. BUT, we do have awesome developers who make awesome ROMs for our phones. I suggest Eclipse or CM7. And I would forget how you used a rooted HTC and learn from scratch with your DX2. For instance, if you have used ROM manager or anything similar, don't use it with your DX2. A lot of people mess up there phones with that. We dont use ClockworkMod Recovery, but an alternative called Bootstrap Recovery. Since our phones are locked down, we have to be tethered to a wall charger to use this. No flashing on the go for us. And ICS is a ways away from getting onto our phones. Just a few things we have to deal with. Its still a nice phone.

Though stuff is bleak now and people like me recently moved to other phones like the nexus or dinc2 or resound, still dragonzkiller is working on CM9 and that should immensely help this device. Right now 2 of the best ROMs are CM7 and eclipse, which is a huge complement to eclipse as it is based on blur....
Oh crap, btw pray to god that your phone does NOT have 2.3.5 OTA on it. If so, you cannot root it. Yet.

With it being more difficult to flash, maybe I'll have a more operable phone lol. On a more serious note, after reading that HTC is releasing ICS for the Incredible 2 I am somewhat disappointed for not choosing it. I'm happy to try a Motorola phone again thought and will enjoy the 0.3" larger screen, my main reason for talking insurance into giving me this phone. Anyways, thanks for the information, it will come in handy on down the road.
Sad to hear there's only 2 main ROMs people use. I'm crossing my fingers for having 2.3.4 .
It probably will have 235 http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x2-hacks/205470-bummer-full-2-3-5-1-3-418-root-broken.html

That sucks. Damn Motorola.
Welcome to the X2 commnuity
To be brutally honest, I believe the incredible 2 has a much higher satisfaction rate compared to the X2. *cough cough* that's why I was going to get the Inc2 until I saw Rezound at a reasonable price
But as said, there are some developers that make X2 quaint =)
I SWEAR TO GOD if the ota breaks root I'm leaving this crap phone.... omg I'm effn pissed!!! Hopefully there was a mistake somewhere... read the link above guys.. and be ready to scream at someone.

I thought someone in this thread said it but I guess not. I read someone saying Eclipse is modified to block OTA updates. Thats a relief on my part since thats what I'm using.

The Incredible 2 didn't even pop in my mind to be honest.
My phone has 2.3.4, let the fun begin . The phone seems pretty quick so far, except when unlocking. Does the snappiness end over time like I've heard?
I've had both, dinc2 is far better.
no offense to dx2 devs though. Dzk, nitro and company are the best.

I hate to hear that. How were you able to trade up to an Inc2?

Yes. Yes, it does end. Anyway, the good news is you are on 2.3.4 and thereby been spared by the tyranny of Moto, but by just. Your best bet is CM7/Eclipse and soon CM9... Just don't ask for ETAs, else you'll suffer the wrath of the Dragon!
And don't dare update to 2.3.5. In fact, just root that damn thing and install CM7/Eclipse to avoid being nagged by the phone to update, when the damned update does arrive.. Enjoy (I can't say that with a straight face, sigh) your device as much as possible. And I hope I and others didn't rain on your parade too much. Have fun with the X2...

If by rain on my parade you mean make me regret getting this phone... . I do enjoy the slightly larger screen and resolution so that's trade off enough for me. But if it does end up like the post you linked, dinc2 here I come.
After not even having the phone activated for 24 hours I'm having trouble. It's the infamous sdcard music playback skipping I've read about . This happens intermittently, sometimes few skips sometimes many. Called Asurion, they told me to take the battery out and hold power down for 15 seconds. We'll see how it does at work tomorrow.
Edit: This happens with the phone idol running PowerAMP with music from 128 KBPS all the way to 2580KBPS. It gets worse downloading updates on 3G.
Youll never completely get rid of that, and its not the sdcard it dies it on internal as well, im looking into new samsung phones, done with motorola soon as I find what i want. Without nitro, dkz, and the rest of our gang i would have been gone months ago. But cm7 and eclipse are both amazing compared to what this was out of the box
from my X2 roaming the north
If you go into power amp setings and find the buffering option and select the largest one it may help the skipping. I came from the original droidx and i was expecting a better phone but turned out to be worse. I am just glad that we have any devs working on this phone! they have done alot for it.
bare with me
Okay i'm extremely fed up. I have had my DX2 for less than a year and I am now just returning my 4th DX2 (will be a total of 5 dx2s) this week for software/hardware related problems. None of this has to do with flashing roms either because the first 3 and possibly the forth i never flashed a single rom. ( mainly because i was to scared)
so here is my question:
in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586153, litetaker explains the process of receiving a phone upgrade after i believe 2 replacements. IM ON MY 5th!!
I would think that they would have mentioned something about receiving a phone upgrade after my 2nd replacement. But it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't want to give out a free phone after all the news about Verizon no longer offering the unlimited data plan and bottle necking 3g users.
anyways,
can anyone confirm that it is an option to receive and upgraded phone at no extra cost me after 2 replacement phones?
Idk man took me 5 different malfunctioning Droid X's before Verizon's insurance Asurion decided to offer me an X2. Then again that wasn't straight from VZW either.
Sent from my stupid smartphone
well the first 3 were through a authorized Verizon retailer and the last 2 were from an actual Verizon store.

In my experience they are never going to offer and it doesn't matter the carrier...any time that I have ever gotten a replacement of a different model it was something I had to tell them I wanted and had to have been very very firm about

I've pretty much flashed everything since i received my last x2. eclipse,cm7,cm9, and others which have escaped my mind, but im just sick of the x2 especially the physical menu, home, back, and search buttons. its annoying at night when my girlfriend is trying to sleep and im on my phone and it just goes CLICK, CLICK, CLICK. i'd just like a new toy to play with and i feel like i have a solid argument ( having 5 replacements) to qualify for a new model.
After my second one I asked for a similar device besides the x2. I played stupid and asked about the incredible2. They said they could do that.

Good luck maybe a nexus if early upgrade but I doubt they will for free.
lol like i said my hopes are high. my upgrade isn't until feb 2013. think that it is to early for an "early upgrade"? but maybe ill settle for the droid inc2 and save my upgrade for something bigger in the beginning of 2013

Amen on the clicking sounds. I have the exact same situation, while she has a Droid Razr with no physical buttons!
Though I am curious as to what issues you've encountered? I've been pretty harsh on mine, but without any real hardware issue. With software I can never get the combo of WidgetLocker, Poweramp, & gReader Pro to not make my music stutter. Other than that, I am sitting at "barely content, but want more."

Worst case scenario, which I hope not for your sake of bad runs with the X2, try Button Savior. That will fix the clicking

Hi, I already talked to ya on my other thread you referred to but this is for the benefit of all...
YES! It appears to be a policy on Verizon's side to offer a different model after two replacements of the same if the customer is still unsatisfied. The lady who answered the call and told me the following:
"You haven't reached the threshold where you will be eligible for a different phone. You need to request 2 replacements, so far you only requested one"
However, Verizon will not actively suggest that, unless you get a super nice and sympathetic rep. You must mention it to them and then they will look into it and say, "alright, what would you like!" It worked for me, and several others. And as per the PMs I received from the OP, it seems to be working for him too, who is currently on a customer service call!
So, happy replacing-your-phone-with-a-different-one-and-not-letting-verizon-rip-you-off-ing! (Holy smokes Batman, this concatenated word has 81 characters! )
Cheers!
P.S: I will never "bare" with you. Now matter how nice a person you are, I am NOT getting naked and funky with a dude... If, on the other hand, you are a dudette, then by all means, lets bare together!
