So yeah, I was in the parking lot of a Walmart near where I live and noticed I had an LTE connection, so I ran a speed test and got this:

I pulled forward one parking spot and ran another speed test and got this:
... 10 feet. I drove about 50 feet and parked again. (Safely, by the way.) I ran another speed test and got this:
Needless to say I'm kinda lost as to how finicky and flaky Sprint's network is. I'm not complaining (much), but I think it's kinda humorous how sensitive the 1900mhz band and the virgin LTE network is.
What modem/firmware and prl are you on?
I had similar results on my evo, the whole while the s3 stayed connected

This was on the 1.22 firmware.
I've noticed the same thing... its pretty flaky. But I will say this... Its 10X better than Wimax ever was. And the fact that you can keep LTE on without sapping your battery down to nothing in 2 seconds is awesome. 3G is fast enough when I'm out and about. And, if wifi is available at most places I end up...
The signal meter next to the 4g is not the LTE signal. Not every tower has 4g on it so you were probably on the fringe. And the EVO LTE sucks when it comes to picking up LTE.

I LOL'd pretty hard at the OP's post.
Woohoo sprint
Curious to find out if your are on the latest radios.

What's interesting though is that meter changes significantly while connected to 4g...every time

I was on the 1.22 firmware. The 2.13 firmware won't connect to LTE unless I flip airplane mode on and off.

Not surprised.
Where are these people doing speed tests? I RARELY get under 15-20 down. Is Chicago just that much faster than these other city's? I mean my best ever was 42 down at like 3am. Even my hsdpa+ tmobile incredible s would 4-6 down.

Lucky you guys, mine varies from 4 mb/s to 8. At work its a bit faster at 12 mb/s, really rare when it reaches over 15. When 4G was new in my home area, it was averaging at 18 mb/s, almost 5 times faster than now. IDK why it took a dump, can't complain but i miss the faster speeds.
I'm not real surprised at the poor showing by the nexus.
A couple of my coworkers bought the nexus and I can't believe what a chintzy POS that phone is. If it didn't have ICS, nobody would give it a second glance.

I go from 20 megs down to this depending on where I am at in the city. Very rarely do I get below 20 megs down.
This test below was taken inside the mall and was not an anomaly.

I am usually in the 45-60Mbps DL and 7-20Mbps UL. I am sure they are on a heavily congested area. And being that it is a tech company they probably have a lot of interference.
i usually get like 1 mbps....oh wait...i don't have 4g *sniffle*
My best was 24 down in suburban Baltimore. I've never seen above that.

My mom asked me the other day if they could upgrade their Network Extender I got for her house to an LTE one. I told her it wouldn't matter because LTE is so much faster than cable they would be bottle necked by Comcast. She didn't understand what I meant, so I just told her they don't have them yet, lol.
I get 20-30 down here in Charlotte.

I remember when I would see speeds like that.
They were all done at a 5am people were sleeping. Post some afternoon shots when people are up and actively using their phone. I get those speed at am hours too. Once day light comes i drop as low as 0.01kb

Here's myself in Arlington right now. Oh and how bout them tornadoes!
Swyped from mah 3vo!
Here is a more realistic look at normal speeds in the Dallas area, all are in Downtown Dallas. The two fastest ones were on 4G.
I win.
Not bad
Greetings from Slovenia
Im in Dallas as well and when they say its as different as day and night, they are right.
Its great at night and sucks in the day. Cant wait for Network Vision to be launched in Dallas.
not the greatest speeds ever, but hey at least we have Unlimited speeds with Sprint unlike any other wireless carrier lol

Seems to be right on par what I get in Arlington area. It's rare that I have full signal except when driving and passing a tower. I usually don't even bother using mobile internet anymore unless I just have to.
I read how to toggle it off, but if I'm in an area that has no LTE yet maybe it doesn't matter. Or is it always scanning for LT? I have great battery so far without messing with the setting, but would it be a little better by shutting LTE off?
I switched mine to cdma only, but I haven't seen any difference in battery life with it off vs on. YMMV

I believe turning to cdma only turns off CDMA-eHRPD.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I will say I consistently get speeds 500 kbps slower when I go to CDMA only, so I'm leaving LTE on.
yes i also get much lower speeds when going to cdma only
My speeds are similar either way, except for my ping speed which is vastly better with CDMA only.

This is true....discussed a little over at s4gru about this....though still some unknown/unsolved things relating to eHRPD i think...
My speeds dropped with LTE off as well. Particularly upload speeds.
With CDMA only I was around 20-30 kbps up.
With LTE/CDMA it's twice that. Interesting to know! Thanks for the post.
just ran about 5 tests on lte and cdma only. no noticeable difference.
.22-.88, hovering around .32 on LTE
.25-.67, hovering around .38 on CDMA
ping of 260-280 on both
upload of .25-.5 on both
Central Austin (no NV improvements yet)
I tested this just now, and I don't see difference either.
my pic from another thread... all the 2000s are cdma only and the others are cdma/lte

I contacted HTC about it, and got this:
Thank you for contacting HTC about your new EVO 4G LTE! Congratulations on your new phone! Do you love it?! I’ve had mine for about a week now and I have to say, I’m in love! I do understand how important maximizing your battery life is in your phone and I’m happy to tell you that changing the mobile network from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only will have no effect on the battery life!

Some sites around ATL did go live but then I think they blocked them. Probably just testing. I remember reading that someone in Smyrna and Lawrenceville had picked it up. Hopefully they'll get Atlanta rolled out soon enough!!

Wherever you have 3g service you will have 4glte it may take a while for sprint to get to your area depending on where you are located
So I was coming home from work, and I glanced at my phone , and here's what I saw. Did a speed Test and here's the results. Its the second time I've seen this. I guess tmo is finally deploying 1700mhz 3g at my area. I'm in st Louis BTW.

From a hardware standpoint both RANs are almost exact. Ive shown up to tmob sites and opened ATT cabinets on accident. The outdoor equipment is that similar. (same rbs, radios, filters, etc. )
I heard tmob/att had opened their networks to help with the states where they lost up to 30% of the sites from the hurricane. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Hello, I would just like to report to all Kansas City users that T-Mobile has switched their 4G network to the 1700mhz band and i am running CM10 nightly with the UCLF6 radio and my signal is great and have 4G. The problem with CM10 is that is always has jumped from 3G to H+ no matter what radio you are on but at least the connection is stable and i am getting speeds in the high 5Mbps!

I think you meant 1900mhz.
I see this in San Francisco bay area too. It works here and there but overall still the same old edge
