glad to have you on board! enjoy the phone!
BTW It runs dead trigger on max graphics without a hitch
I'm assuming that's a game. I'm not a big gamer but the only thing I can complain about so far is the lack of a physical keyboard lol quick question what's the most stable Rom and kernal for this phone right now? Currently running black ice v1.0 with a stock kernal from the 4.0.3 ota. I saw some posts about the v8 supercharger. On the sk4g we could only use the v6 one has anyone been able to oc this phone successfully? This Rom seems to be underclocked by default. Sorry for the noobish questions just too lazy at almost 4am to read through a bunch of posts

Is there a version of ICS for GS that looks like the Nexus one? Ive had this phone for a day and i hate the TouchWiz UI. I even saw that the update will be ICS but look EXACTLY the same as it does now . Thanks.

Try CyanogenMod9. Pure AOSP experience.
Congrats on owning the best Android device!
Logged using an SGS2 type droid while floating in CheckROM quadrant on a research mission.......
Thanks mate, ive just come over from Sony Ericcson X8 (the cheapest android on the market) and i was running an 'almost' fully working cm9 on it lol (very good devs)
So now im about to start the process of rooting and all that jazz...
Obviously im slightly nervous as its brand new... Hopefully it wont go wrong

Yep
but PLEASE, if you do, read the dev thread (1st post especially) and the discussion thread - find out what works and what doesnt - too many people dont bother to do this and keep asking the same questions over and over and over and over......
good luck!
So my friend has a Telus Fascinate and after using her phone briefly I decided she really could use a custom ROM for improved performance and to remove bloat. She doesn't own a computer and uses her phone in place of one. I am familiar with rooting, recovery and flashing custom ROMs. I've got a few questions and preferences:
I'm looking for something that will boost performance and remove bloat.
I need it to be incredibly stable as I will be flashing it and then it will be out of hands.
It doesn't matter if it's TouchWiz or not. I would prefer ICS if possible.
I've spent a bit of time lurking here but I don't think I have the time to completely educate myself on a phone I will have in possession for a few hours at most.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide, I really appreciate it!

I don't mind being on call for problems. She lives super close to me and I've given her my old Xperia Play as a temp phone because I need a USB Jig to get into download mode which I had to order. I just want something simple and stable enough for everyday use so I can minimize my involvement.

@Havoced, did you manage to get AOKP running on Fascinate 4G? Please let me know, thanks !
Apologies if this has been covered to death. I scanned many recent threads but couldn't find much.
My aging desire z is getting on my tits and was wandering if the s2 is still a viable modern handset. I know that the community is still very active but can't help thinking I'd be better off going for a nexus of some sort. Stock android is not a worry as it'll get flashed anyway.
I know the old view of 'get the best you can afford' applies, but money is short

Well, there are plenty of developers who put their time in making roms etc., so that's not a problem. If you want your phone to be updated faster, you have to buy a Nexus phone. It's all up to you, asking here will give you mixed results (or no answer at all).

I have a question about flashing. I use Linux so will be flashing with heimdall. What I want to know is do I have to flash a stock ics/jb Rom first or can i go straight for custom fun? I used to flash my sgs1 with odin and cwm so understand the whole download mode and the like.

Hi Guys -
i recently have bought unbranded HTC Amaze .. love its specs.. great phone
yesterday did root and installed T mobile ICS rom.
my set is new and have done only 2 battery charge so far not happy with battery performance, before that i was using samsung note it has huge battery life... So please guide me how can I improve battery life of my Amaze also i want to get rid of T- mobile apps in my firmware since I live in Pakistan where there are different service providers. Any stable custom rom if you want to suggest .. plz advice! thx
Wow welcome to the forum. The flavor of the week right now is the Viper Amaze Rom which we just got and a lot of people really like CM10 ROMs. Jose's renditions of AOKP and CM10 seem to work out well with the right tweaks. There are some of the older team nightmare and speed ROMS that some people still enjoy.
Umm if you wanna remove T Mobile bloat use Titanium back up.
And also the best place to post questions is in the Q&A section.
Read around try some ROM s out.

Thanks - next time i will do this in Q&A section, i just found that my screen brightness was consuming so much battery, now i have reduced it to around 10%. I found sense version 3.6 too older, it should be at least version 4. rightnow i am using go - launcher which looks good on dark colored amaze.
It's funny, I just switched from my Amaze to the Note 2. And it gets about 28hrs on a full charge with 5-8 hrs screen time. I can't imagine going back to a smaller phone any more. Just wouldn't make sense.

with your experience on XDA you should know, what is going to be an excellent ROM for somebody else, may not be for you. I don't know what kind of user you are.
not sure what your last phone was, but we have quite a bit of variety here.
here is my rundown and I am sure you know basics
ICS 4.0.4...........super stable by know beings update official updates have gone beyond
JB 4.1.2...........Touchwiz based pretty darn close to stock (debloated) and DAMN stable. only a couple out there but rock solid. some theming and mods out there for personal touches. not many updates needed
JB 4.2..............these would be AOSP, AOKP and CM based ROMS. lots of customizing. basically 3 ROM's in 1. with bells and whistles are some shortcomings. random reboots being the biggest flaw. many have success using alternate KERNALS built in conjunction with certain ROM's, giving options for OCing and UVing. different tweaks here and there can better chances for success. lots of updates on these.
JB 4.3..............still early in the game. smooth but working out a lot of kinks right now. its coming along
just an honest everyday user here giving an honest opinion m my experience here. folks are great funny and very helpful and a LOT of talent in development here.
good luck my friend. I am sure others will be along to correct me on SOMETHNG

Skeleton key is in the i717 thread because there are a bunch of us that use the i717 (AT&T version) and unlock it and use a Tmobile sim/service. It works great. So, he made that ROM for us.

I dunno..."great" is different for everyone.
Some people love Padawan, Blackstar....
Others love 4.2 ROM's, or ICS rom's
It depends what you want in a ROM. I'm using Skeleton Key, because I like ICS a lot. It works just fine for my needs. It is an excellent ROM, as are all the others. It just like I said...depends what YOU want.

you obviously have not read p. 355- 378 in thread then. which deals with the ONLY issue folks have had with that ROM. with those settings, my phone runs orgasmic.

not my intention to be a D#@K. too many people are wanting someone else to do the work for them lately. when basically it is what they themselves do to their phone, not what somebody else does it. so why would you not want to inform yourself and understand.
