So I don't know if many or any other people are having or have had this problem(could be related specifically to my car, but unlikely as you'll see later), but I feel like I've heard others mention it. I've now had this issue on multiple roms, from saurom 7.1 GB to now PA cm10 2.0 with flapps OC kernel.
The problem:
When connected to the car stereo via Bluetooth, I'd lose volume control on the dash and only have its control on the phone.
Why does this suck?
Well having to do this to adjust volume can be very annoying for several reasons, like:
1. Having to grab the phone every time you want to adjust the volume
2. Slower volume increases and decreases
3. Depreciating the phone hardware faster
4. Scaling the volume in much bigger, less precise(sometimes it will be either too loud/soft) increments
5. Potentially much lower overall loudness (depending on where the car's own volume was at when it lost control)
6. Potentially more distortion (raising the phone's volume to max to compensate increases distortion regardless of where car volume is at).
What I soon began to realize is that it happens from certain apps, like Pandora (which is usually my go to), but not for the system standard music app like Apollo (which is why I don't think the problem source is related to my car).
So, the work around I figured out for myself is loading both, pausing Pandora, playing Apollo to get volume control, then holding down the back button to kill Apollo(make sure this is enabled in developer options in phone settings), then Pandora should start playing again all by itself and still have volume control. Haven't tested it yet on other music apps, but I suspect it should work the same.
Hope this helps if anyone else had this problem.

This is my first post so bare with me. I have been wanting to use cm10 but I have the same exact problem. In my 2012 scion xb I have bt audio and use spotify and tune in radio for everything. I was using the same method as you to control volume, but when i used synergy rom for my s3 I had the car controls (dash and steering wheel) back. Although I have to re-link the bt every time I Turn my car off.... didn't have to do that with my tbolt, it stayed lined even after i shut my car on and off. Still love my s3 better though lol

Hey guys, with my touch hd, i like using my in-ear headphones although they are far too loud when using the music player tab in manilla. how can i put the volume down?
try searching, there's already a thread about this.
as far as i know, that thread suggests using advanced config to set the music player value low. Setting it to 1 still makes it rather loud for a minimum sound level and so this doesnt really solve my problem.
also, with the audio booster enabled, how do i change the overall volume?
the only way ive been doing this is by creating profiles with various changes to the overall db values (ie subtracting and adding 1 from total, 2, 3 etc.) but this is a long process and id have to do it for every config.
any ideas?

This maybe a bit simplistic and you may have tried it, but why don't you take all the frequencies down to -6 in the Audio Booster? This in theory should drop the overall volume by -6db? The other thing I did was buy high impedence earbuds which where 150ohms, but ear buds are not everyones thing. I don't like "in the ear" phones myself. I have some yuin PK1's....they are superb HiFi.
If the music is too loud, you can edit the registry to fix it:
Local_machine\software\HTC\AudioManger_eng\Config\ music_player_volumn
Change the DWORD to 10 or lower and soft-reset the mobile
(Original value is hexadecimal: 64 or Decimal: 100)
You have just decreased the maximum music player volume in TouchFLO3D
Here is another tip.
If you want the phone to remember the last volume used with headphones, so that the next time you plug them in, they will automatically play at that last volume, you can also do this in the registry. The only problem with this particular tip, is that after every soft-reset, you'll have to enter the changes again in the registry.
But here is how to do that:
Local_machine\software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\SavedHand SetVolume
Change DWORD to 0

How about using your Stylus (or finger) to lower at minimum?
Rgds,
huh?
Why would you edit registry etc?
Whats wrong with the up/down volume keys or as stated the volume icon in taskbar?

In some cases, (and I had this problem), even having the volume at just a couple of bars was pretty darn loud. That meant that it didn't give you much room to play around with a decent volume range. Basically, you knew you never needed the volume louder than just a few bars. If you wanted to rock out - it was fine. But if you wanted to listen to music at a soft volume, it was not that easy. If you turned it down a bar or so, it would drop the volume quite a bit and another bar down meant no more volume. Also, the side buttons drop the volume faster than if you use your stylus. So, that meant that using the buttons sometimes dropped the volume from loud to mute in one press. So, I had to take the stylus out every time to carefully lower the volume just a bar or two. And that gets annoying.
So by making the registry adjustment, you are basically setting your desired max volume to be at the top of the bars. Now you have whole range of bars to slowly drop the volume down when you want to listen to softer music.
Not everyone has this problem. I had it with my stock ROM, but once I started using Dutty's ROMs, I never had a problem with it.
I see, 5 mins out of box Dutty's ROM on my HD
This problem went away since i switched over to kwbr's Topix a while ago. It seems to be a result of some headphones having a higher sensitivity to others, so they interpret the same electrical signal into a louder sound, hence why HTC try to eliminate the problem by giving a set of headphones which are known to be the right sensitivity.

I don't understand your question.
However, when I use the audio booster, I can still use the volume buttons as usual. Do you have anything else installed that could be interfering with it? For example software to map buttons?
I think you should use WMP to play, easier to adjust the volume
Try using one of these:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/apple-iphone-stereo-handsfree-adapter-p15226.htm
Works well, microphone and answer button work, and has a volume slider so you can tweak volume as required.
I spend most my time in a library with in-ear headphones and the lowest volume is just too loud for me. Is there any way to change the volume rocker's (or slider's) increments?
I'm using Vegan 5.1.1
Sorry Hachi, I dont have an answer for you.
But I am bumping this post up because I have the same problem.
Also took 5 minutes of searching to find this post.
Has anyone found a solution to this yet?
Thanks
Tnt Lite. I had vegan before and lowest setting is still loud. Tnt Lite works. Just do a backup first and try TNT
I would also like to know if there is a solution for this. I am currently running VEGAN 5.1 and when I listen to music only the first half of the media volume does anything. From half to full I dont really notice a difference. I would like to be able to properly spread it out so when I turn it up the max volume on the screen is also the max volume of the device.
I am using TNT Lite 4.4 and noticed the volume is very low until the last setting, not a linear curve.
try using Quick Settings from the market. it allows you to tweak the volume a whole lot more than the stock settings menu.

This does help with system level volume items, but as far as media being played even at 1/10 the volume is too loud.
Fortunately using my blue-tooth headphones I have found I can use the in-line volume control to make it a reasonable level. I just don't know what I will do on an airplane.
Can you keep your BT awake while the screen is off?

Running vegan 5.1
I just tested with locking the screen and had no problems playing music with the stock player, tested for around 12 minutes. After that i set my sleep to 2 minutes, started a song and walked away with the screen still on. The screen went to sleep but the music kept playing, tested for two songs.
Good question and sorry I don't have an answer, but I'm glad you asked. I've seen huge volume differences in different apps. For example, Angy Birds is too loud for quiet settings even at the lowest volume level while some web sites are too low even at the highest settings.
Try the free poweramp app in the market. Go into the eq settings and adjust output. This solved a volume issue for me
I bought my Galaxy S3 (UK version) when they first came out, but recently had to have the motherboard replaced under warranty due to the phone suffering from Sudden Death.
Before the repair, the audio output via my earbud headset was perfect, but now I'm getting a persistent and annoying low-level background hiss. This is not affected in the slightest by the volume control - even at the lowest volume setting the hiss is still present at the same level. It lasts for about 4 seconds after audio playback has finished, and then stops with a slight click/pop as the audio circuit shuts down.
You can also hear it from the rear-panel speaker if you put it close to your ear and perform any action which causes a noise to be generated - e.g. keypress clicks or the notification tones when you press the volume rocker (just make sure volume is set low first though, as that speaker can be loud when you've got your ear up against it!)
I've done some checking and it's definitely hardware related - nandroid restoring my old ROM doesn't make any difference. It is really annoying when I'm listening to music at night in bed, usually at the lowest volume setting, as the hiss is much more noticeable without other ambient noises to drown it out.
There were a number of reports of similar issues last year but not everyone seemed to be affected, and the threads all seem to have dried up now. I'm wondering how many 'original' S3 users have this problem, versus more recent purchasers? I've added a poll, just to see how widespread this issue is - please treat any phone where the motherboard has been replaced for Sudden Death issues as a 'recent' phone.
And how do I go about getting it fixed if the current motherboards all seem to have the same fault? Is there any low-level firmware setting to reduce the physical gain of the internal audio amp circuit, as it does seem to be happening in the final stages of audio output rather than in the software-controlled stuff? I'm not worried about losing the top end of the volume range, I use bluetooth for more amplified playback anyway.
Andre
Background hiss / noise no and thats from one of the very first SGS3 .
But a fair number of the sound mods do add noise .
>>>is is not affected in the slightest by the volume control - even at the lowest volume setting the hiss is still present at the same level. It lasts for about 4 seconds after audio playback has finished, and then stops with a slight click/pop as the audio circuit shuts down.<<<<
That has been well posted up on XDA hiss + pop click on shutdown as you said long time ago .|Not seen any user posting really since those threads died . Most are just looking for more loud or more boom boom .
A number of kernels now have sound adaptations .
jje
Yeah, I first put it down to some sort of audio mod in the ROM that I had installed, so I nandroided back to the vanilla JB that was in the phone when I picked it back up from repair, and even back to my older ICS stock ROM (which had no audio mods at all) and they were all exactly the same.
Sound tweaks are all going to effect the source sound digitally, before it hits the analogue amp stage, and I suspect it's the final analogue stage which is generating the interference.
I don't care for lots of volume or boom boom (and anyway, I have amplifiers or car audio for that) but I do want my original lovely hissless audio quality back...
Andre
Do you still get the hissing with a good sound enhancing kernel (such as boeffla)? If you do, sounds like you have a hardware problem
Sent via TCP/IP
Ah, I didn't know some kernels were better than others for noise reduction. Although I'm not so interested in 'enhancing' per se, more reducing! But the problem I'm getting is not effected by the volume controls at all, the hiss remains constant whatever any of the level sliders are set to, just as long as the audio circuits are enabled.
The ROM I'm currently running is Omega AOKP v7.0, which is based on AOKP JB 4.2.2 milestone-1 and stock kernel. Is there a suitable kernel compatible with that which might help me does anyone know? (boeffla isn't as far as I can tell)

My SGS3 is about 9 months old, and I have this too. However, in my case the background hiss is at an extremely low level - to all practical intents it's inaudible. Certainly not enough to be annoying, even in the quietest of environments.
I flashed 12.1 (Nightly 4/28) a couple of days ago from CM11 (Snapshot M9). Overall, I like it except for one glaring issue. For some reason, the audio seems to self-adjust no matter what. I initially encountered this while I was calling. The incoming volume would suddenly get painfully loud, like it was a max, so I would hit the volume down button several times and then about 15 seconds later, the volume shoots back up again. On top of that, the volume also goes back down to where I was expecting it, so it kept fluctuating from quiet to loud.
I also tested this just playing music. I played a song, adjusted the volume to max, and then slid the slider down to about hitting volume up three times. It was quiet for a little bit and then just went right back up to a significantly louder volume. Tested this with the plain "music" app and Google's Play Music app. I have AudioFX disabled as well.
Just tested the inverse of this where I went from low to high volume and it seems that it wants to keep a certain loudness. I guess similar to how there was that one feature that you could enable in previous versions to prevent hearing damage when wearing headphones.
I just tested this with headphones as well and the anomaly doesn't seem to happen.
Anyone know if there are any fixes or is this just a side effect from it being a nightly build?

After doing a few minutes of research, it seems people with the OnePlus One are also having this problem on CM11:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...galaxy-s3-volume-going-crazy.html#post4342611
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-2309
This user notes that the volume setting to make ringtones gradually louder may be causing the issue for them:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-3026?jql=text ~ "volume"
I don't see too much on CM12.1 at the moment on the bugtracker except for this on a Z3:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/NIGHTLIES-1147?jql=project in (CYAN, NIGHTLIES)
So for anyone else who is curious, I did a little more digging between my college finals and found that it seems to be a Lollipop thing, not just a CM thing. I guess the only thing we can do is hope either the CM team or Google comes up with a fix for I guess what would be called 5.2 or 5.1.5.
all 26+ builds 12.1 have this bug
The Samsung Galaxy S21 got rid of the phone jack from previous models and now has only a USB-C connection. I bought a USB-C-to-phonejack converter so I could use the headphones I had from my S7 phone. It works when I am using the headphones to listen to music or watch videos. By "works" I mean not only do I hear sound through them, but I can control the volume either using the phones controls or the built-in controls on the headphones. EXCEPT! Except when on a phone call. When I use the headphones when using the phone, the volume control does nothing. Neither the controls on the phone itself, or the controls on the headphones. I end up deafened because the volume is at max and can't be turned down. Again, this is only while speaking on the phone; other apps let me use the volume controls.
Any ideas on ways to fix this?
Thank you,
S.

I can't guarantee that this will work. But often what seems obvious to me is something other people miss completely. (And the other way around too.)
When you press the volume down or up rocker on the phone, have you noticed the three horizontal dots at the top of the onscreen volume indicator? If you tap on that 3-dot menu, multiple vertical volume indicators appear. I haven't tested with a USB-C audio jack dongle but I am betting that if you have the dongle plugged in (regardless of whether the earphones are plugged into the dongle), one of those vertical volume sliders will be specifically for the dongle/USB-C output.
Give this a try and let us know if this works. If it does, I realize this might be annoying to do every time. But maybe then you can find a utility in the Play store that allows you to set individual volume levels.
Good luck.
P.S. I fully understand if you prefer the wired earphones. But I can tell you that when I use bluetooth earphones of various kinds, simply pressing the volume rocker does reduce/increase phone call volume.

Thank you. I never really noticed those dots in the volume control; just ignored them all this time! I pressed them and see the extra options. I haven't tried the USB-C dongle yet... I just packed it away for a trip this week. I'll keep it in mind though and try it as soon as I unpack.
