[HELP] Power Button Broken/Won't Power Up - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My power button recently stopped working. Luckily MeanROM allows you to wake the phone using the camera button. I decided I was going to go to Sprint to get the phone replaced. I began to follow the procedures for REGAW S-ON to restore it to stock as to not have any problems with Sprint. After running the RUU it left my phone in the bootloader, where I cannot get out of since I cannot select a command with the power button.
Anybody? I'm pretty much without a phone right now and am afraid that if the phone's battery dies I won't be able to turn it on at all. Right now its on stuck in the bootloader...
UPDATE: Phone is no longer on, the battery died. Is there a way to turn it on without the power button??

its risky because I dont know this for certain as Ive never attempted it but you should be able to load an update.zip or pmg.zip to your sd, although trying to get the phone to recognize it is a different matter, you would need to somehow power cycle. I know there is an easy solution to this I just cant think of it
edit: this is just me because I can be very stubborn but you could jab and poke and prod the power button mercilessly until it jumps into fastboot....that is if bootloader is still unlocked.....darn, this is a hard one

If the phone dies and I take it to Sprint, is there any way they can turn it back on? Or can I just tell them the power button does not work and they warranty it...

The repair center may try to clean or replace the power button and then power on the device, which may or may not lead to a very confused and possibly scared tech

I've seen it, a new tech or one unfamiliar with custom ROMs or inexperienced in physical repair will sometimes get scared thinking they are at fault when they see tampered or unlocked or just plain see the bootloader

At this point I'm hoping the tech freaks out and thinks he broke the phone, that way I'll get my warranty

Dude, techs have lost their jobs because of **** like this, its not funny when it happens to the tech

[Q] Is my Amaze bricked ??

Ok guys, yes...I'm a noob...
I did a master reset on the phone and now I get nothing...
It won't turn on unless I plug it in to the charger.
When it does turn on, all I get is a few vibrations, and
the icons at the bottom light up.
I can get windows to see the two "drives" of the phone,
but they are empty (have 0 bytes if you right click and check properties. If you left click, it says please insert disc).
I've tried a new battery and my battery turns another phone on...
I've also tried two cables and two PCs.
It hasn't been rooted or messed with, the battery died and I went to charge
it and nothing...I left it on charge overnight and at least see a bit life.
Any ideas, or should I just send it on to HTC??
So that others have a better idea... can you get into hboot or fastboot?
try a nwe battery

he said he already tried a new charged battery, so it can't be that. I'm thinking his phone's OS might be gone so he should probably installed a RUU or something.
In the dark...
Can't see anything come up on screen...
no idea what mode it's in, hboot, fastboot or anything ??!?!!
Think it might be possible to install just a stock (Tmobile) RUU?? If so, how ?????

Hmmm, OK
Do you think there is anything that I can do to get it running ??

There isn't a way if your phone isn't detected or you can't get into hboot. Meaning you have no control over your phone to do anything.
Anyways, for htc warranty exchanges that is done with tmobile... they usually send you the phone first and then you send one back in return. Unless your policy is different. So i suggest you calling them immediately.
Update
I can go into control panel and "see" the phone listed in device manager under portable devices as "F" and "G". Click properties and they are found as HTC devices. Does this mean I can do anything to it? I just want my phone back working as fast as I can. Sending it in will take a while. I bought this phone for the camera. We have a 1 yr old and don't wanna miss the Christmas pics...

are you on tmobile? they usually send within 2 days, their distribution center is in texas or something. I usually get it next day.
You said your screen doesn't turn on or doesn't show anything. It's gonna be hard to determine what you're doing even if you can run ADB to put it in oem fastboot and to flash a RUU that way. But it sounds like your display might be a problem too then. It'll be quicker to do an exchange. If you call in today, they'll probably ship it on monday and you'll get it wednesday latest. unless you have tmobile insurance plan. it should be next day and you'll get it tuesday.
Thanks
Well that might work for me then...can't hurt to give it a try.
Thanks a bunch for letting me know !!!
No problem, I had my fair share dealing with tmobile exchanges lol.
If you purchased directly from tmobile it should be very easy to do an exchange because your warranty is verified.
If you bought it off craigslist/ebay. sometimes the previous users used a different carriers that makes the warranty no longer verified. HOWEVER many customer reps will still try to process the exchange (you can determine by their upbeat personalities lol).
If you run into someone who won't do it, just call again and talk to another rep. Most of the time they will push it through because it's still a newly released phone.
Have you already contacted T-Mobile support? You'll have to talk to them anyway before they agree to replace your phone.
The reason I am asking this is because there might be an unpublished backdoor way to restore your device if your device is not completely (hardware-wise) dead. For example, Dell Streak has a complete firmware image on its internal SD card and you needed to somehow trigger an IPL routine to restore the device to its original condition.
I haven't heard of anything similar on HTC devices yet, but hey, it's just a thought. And if there actually is a way, and you are the first one to post it here, you'll be a hero!

yeah we normally just flash a RUU, but you can't even see the screen, so we can't even be certain that we're in the correct modes to be flashing and stuff. because we require to ADB it to restart in fastboot, but we can't even see if its going to fastboot. or if it already is in fastboot to begin with, so we're not certain which commands to run with the screen being off. Well you can always try commands and it should only work in certain modes, but do you really want to do it blindly? I would rather just exchange the thing.
Not afraid to try....
Well, I can't use it as it is...exchange is a hassle even in 2-3 days. Can't do anything until tomorrow anyway. I was thinking today, I've heard they can port Android to iPhone...there's no fastboot there, is there ??? Soooooo, if it's turning on, I should be able to do something...I want my phone back !!!
Edit: I misunderstood the issue

Flashing green light ???
It is now turning on and has a flashing green light, does that mean anything??

Bricked my phone -_-

I bricked my galaxy note i717 beyond recovery with a regular jig. I've looked into jtag but I haven't found any information whether it's viable for the i717 (i.e. which jtag it's using, which box I would need, where I would need to bring it etc etc.)
So here's my question: Do any of you guys know any more about how to unbrick the phone or details about whether/how to unbrick using jtag?
Maybe I've overlooked something else. Here's how it went down:
I was stupid and tried to flash the phone with firmware for the N7000 because I was overexcited and didn't know that it wasn't an n7000. Now the recovery mode wouldn't let me upgrade (understandable reasons I guess) so I decided to force flash it with odin which also didn't let me upgrade the phone. So I used some method relying on adb. The process took way to long so I unplugged the phone mid-way through it, then replugged it and suddenly the process reported success. So the phone started rebooting just that instead of actually booting up it stayed black. Pressing any of the buttons yields no response - neither vibration nor any screen response. Using the usb jig also yields no response but I'm not entirely sure if there's a jig method that might work - or a key combo that might work - or even a usb method that might work.
Anyway any advice would be highly appreciated.
Did you try return to the store where you boought it? If your phone don't show anything on the screen, there is no way store knows what's going on with your phone unless you tell them the truth
That's exactly what I would do

That's not guinea pig. He did couple wrong things in a row (wrong ROM, god know what he is doing with abd and then unplug the phone in the middle of flashing or something). If I'd make a guess, he screwed up the bootloader.

Hold down down volume button, home button and power button all at the same time. You don't know for sure until you try it.

I know on some phones that download mode can still be activated even if the screen isn't working properly and displaying it. I know many infuse users ran into problems and were still able to use Odin to flash stock and fix their phone. Try doing the hardware method of getting into download mode, and even though your screen doesn't show anything, it may still connect to Odin and you could try to flash back to stock.

U cant brick these phones.use the hardware buttons to get into download mode.
Take battery out and put it back in.hold power vol down and home for 20sec and then press vol up and plug into ur pc with odin running.u should see something on port section.
If that dont work.hold power and both vol. Buttons for 30 sec. Then press vol.up and plug in usb.hope it works.

Actually, you can brick it to the point of needing JTAG repairs to restore your device. That being said, it's very very very hard to brick it. You have to do something like flash firmware for a completely wrong device and screw up your bootloaders in the process.

I've read some so my suggestion is this:
First make sure that you have the drivers installed for your phone. Then pull the battery wait for a few seconds. press the down button and then the power to go in download mode and hold them pressed for 20s. Now plug in the USB and press the volume up button. If Odin detects it you're good to go! If not... Well it's worth a shot
My theory is that even though the screen is blank, the hardware still boots properly. Just make sure your battery is somewhat charged. And also plug in the USB AFTER you "boot" in download mode.

It's not that, we've all made mistakes, but it's like this guy went out of his way to try to brick the phone. This isn't like "oh crap, I flashed the wrong radio"
He tried to flash a ROM from a different SoC and every fail-safe wouldn't let him do it. I'm surprised at how well the different programs tried to save his phone, then he actually went ADB and forced it onto his phone and then he unplugs during a flash.
It's like he drove his car without paying attention and hit a fence that prevents you from flying off a cliff, then he kept ramming his car into the fence, then took some C4, blew up the fence, drove off the cliff, then started yelling "help, I fell off the cliff"

Need help. Bricked device over real stupid reason I would never imagine.

Hey guys,
So, I think I officially join the club of the bricked Razr Max people today.
It happened like this.. Everything was running fine, created a few restore points of different roms in SafeStrap. Two under SafeSystem Enabled and one with it Disabled. So, I go ahead like a newb apparently and try to load my first restored image from the original OS / Stock, and I forgot SafeSystem is Enabled while loading it, mind you, this Restore point was made with SafeSystem Disabled when I was new to SafeSystem. Low and behold, the phone started up, "Dual Core Logo" showed for about ten seconds, and the went right to black screen and I can't get it out of there. Nothing I can do will start up the device. I have the charger in meanwhile and the phone isn't even recognizing a charge.
What do I do? Am I f*cked beyond immeasurable repair? Let me know.
Thanks
Ok I'm short on time, but this should help!

You know what though? I can't even power up into Bootloader that's how bad it is. Like, I am left with holding down the power button to absolutely nothing functioning. All you need is fastboot files, RSD Lite and maybe, the factory cable. Just so everyone knows there are ways to get around everything!
Let's say you messed up your phone and it won't boot up. All you can do is get into fastboot and the bootloader. Problem is, your battery is too low to flash anything. Too easy:
Press and hold the vol down and power button until you see the screen flicker, let go of those buttons and quickly press and hold all 3 buttons on the side (power and both volume buttons). Once in the bootloader, plug in your wall charger. Now hit volume down until you highlight the SBF option and press volume up to select it. Now press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds and release it. Your phone will power down and should begin to charge. Once you get a full charge, repeat the process to get into fastboot, use RSD Lite and the fastboot files, viola!!
It's virtually impossible to hard brick a Moto phone unless there is a hardware issue or the bootloader gets corrupt somehow.
Umm, so out of curiosity. What might one do if the bootloader gets corrupted? I already sent it back to Moto and they claimed this new phone suffered water damage. (I've personally seen that the 3 stickers are non activated, 2 on board and 1 visible. So much for their theory). Just curious. And Jtag's seem quite costly and then there's the issue of correct pinout and finding the firmware. Any other solutions?

[Q] Workaround for battery pull

So ive been wondering since on this phone with the built in battery you cant do battery pulls for things like bad flashes or just to fix issues, what exactly is the workaround for fixing issues. Im not anywhere near the level of some people on here when it comes to flashing roms and fixing issues so ive been very curious about this cuz i really wouldnt know what to do if i flashed a rom got and got a bootloop...the only thing i could think of waiting for the battery to run out.

Way to be completely unhelpful. Did you look at your own google search? No answer.
I think it is a legitimate question.
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. This should restart the phone.
actually it is in there. it's the 6th result down, and it happens to be another thread just like this in this exact forum, but I thought we were all big boys and girls and knew how to search.
Let me spoon feed something that has already been discussed. If you hold the power button down for 10 seconds it will hard reset your phone.
If you want it to reboot into bootloader, hold vol-down while doing so and continuing to hold it until the bootloader comes up.

Thanks because that really had me worried too, almost had me reconsider my preorder and wait for the GS3 to be released. However I'm still a bit unsure if it will work when you need it...
Someone force yourself into a bootloop or splash screen hang and give it a try for us.
Tell us your results afterwards.

i tried it in the middle of a boot and it worked perfectly.
one more thing
Let's see how hard this is too brick, of course we need a volunteer. root your phone, unlock the boot loader. Put the RUU on your sd-card, go into bootloader, while the RUU is flashing, somehow kill power to the phone, let me know what happens

HTC EVO 3D won't turn on at all!!

I just bought an HTC 3D evo off craigslist, the seller said that he loaded the wrong ROM into it, he had android 4.0, tried to upgrade to 4.1.
I don't know if it is rooted or not, doesn't turn on at all (nothing happens, light, vibration, etc), i tried removing-the-battery trick, didn't work. I just want to load a new ROM into it so i can get it working again..
How do i do that?
Thanks.
Does the small led come on when plugged into a charger? Have you tried to hold down the volume down button and power button down at the same time to access the bootloader, also please specify if your phone is gsm or cdma.
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh!

the small led light does not turn on when pressing the power button (no signs of life at all!), i tried to reset (power button+volume down) it but nothing happens and it is a GSM phone.
Looks like your friend hoodwinked you bro. It sounds like he gave you a bricked phone. Unfortunately if your not able to access bootloader then its a paper weight now.

As I have said, you need to be able to boot into bootloader mode to flash firmware. Whoever sold you that phone didn't tell you he hard bricked the phone in the process. The hboot had to have gottened corrupted. That's why you can't turn it on.

Here's a tutorial that you might find useful in helping you set up adb http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751439.
Now do not take this the wrong way, you should listen to what I'm telling about your phone instead of ignoring me and trying to prove me wrong. Especially since I'm educating you on adb. I gave you that link so I dont have to explain how to set adb up. You have to be able to access bootloader, recovery or have phone completely on to run adb. In the end you will realize what I have told you. The person who sold it to you screwed you over. Your phone is completely bricked. Truly bricked. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm always open to learn new things.
I would definitely concur with Jsparta26, you unfortunately bought your phone from a unscrupulous, deceitful azz wipe.

I read your problem and read through the other suggestions, It does sound bricked but have you tried a different battery?, I had a battery one time that once it went completly dead the phone would not charge it, I had to charge it though an external charger, once it had some juice in it it would charge fine with the phone. All i am saying is make sure it is not something as simple as a bad battery before you decide to use it as a paperweight. If you do get it to turn on, let me know and I can help you get it working again.

Its like I said. Your hboot was corrupted. That's great you got your phone booted back up.
Now as for viper 3d there's no "best" ROM. Its a subjective topic so its basically not allowed. I can tell you its very stable, has lots of tweaks, and highly customizable. Only thing is that is doesn't have 4g or 3d. And it works on any hboot.

brick fixable
I had the same thing going on w/my phone. Problem was: the hboot was corrupted.. The only way to fix this is with linux.. I don't recall the exact files or command that I ran but if you search you will find them and it will bring your phone back to life.. NOTE: every thread i found had old information with older hboots which have different filenames.. Once you find the information on how to fix your hboot aka "brick" you simply need to get your exact hboot file and replace (flash) it through linux.. there is even an ubuntu cd you can download and boot into so that you don't have to install Linux.. I'd give you more info, but I'm at work right now and don't have time to research it. Good luck..!!

today i have a problem with my evo. i loss my phone in my car, and at night was frost, - 20 C.
half of day phone dosnt power on. my first opinion was that the battery died, but when i measured voltage, i see 3.75V, thats normal for X-Polimer Battery. after i Inserting the battery at her place, and press power button, phone turn on
i dont know, may be i had to remove the battery for a long time, or during this time dry condensate, after frost.
