Battery indication problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with my s3's battery indication. Sometimes the battery is stuck at a certain level and does not go down regardless of usage. But when i restart my phone, the indication becomes correct. So far i have encountered this problem only 3 times so its nothing major. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess its a software issue. I'm currenty on stock rom and not rooted.

I just had this problem today with my i9300.. Me and my friend were out hiking, i was using my tracks and taking a few photos, we got back to my place and he asked "what is your battery out" I pulled it out and said 39% then went "Woah i left and it was at 39%" two hours worth of hiking and the battery didnt drop 1%??? so we were looking at our stats for about 20 seconds on mytracks and then we finished so i put it back into my pocket after turning off the screen then 5 seconds later the phone made that 'time to charge' sound and i pulled it out and it was at 10%. i was like.. wtf? it was 39% then 10%! First time I've seen it do this. No root, or custom rom, just stock UK rom from last month...

This problem is with my phone too, but the battery stats show the correct percentage.

Wipe dalvik and cache, and charge your phone to 100% while its off and then enter recovery and reset battery stats.
Has happened to me a few times but this trick usually fixes it

Already tried that with no success.

Doesn't reseting your phone fix this? Because i just reset mine and its back to normal. How often does this happen to you?

Phone not switching on: Battery and phone very hot

Just woke up and my phone is boiling, especially touchscreen and battery. Its not switching on, I left it on charge like I do every night.
Just to let you guts know, never flashed or rooted my s2. Its still on 2.3.4 with kernel 2.6.35
Turn the phone off remove battery and let it go cold .
Then connect to Samsung charger and see what happens .
Problems
One factory reset after backing up data .
Two try a another/new battery
Three return to service .
jje
Try with another battery, I'm pretty sure that that will help

We've had it happen when a app has "hanged" and not closed on Gingerbread. Haven't had it happen yet on ICS *touch wood* .. phone gets hot and huge battery drain quickly.. even while on charge.
Maybe a recent app you have installed has caused the hang?
leaving your battery on charge overnight is NOT the problem
I posted this few days ago, I'm having another problem now, unsure if its linked to this. But occasionally when phone on charge, I'm getting a pop up notification saying 'battery paused, temperature too low or hot'
This happens regardless of the battery or charger. I've taken screen shots of they help. Battery temp is 67 with condition over over heating. How do I solve this

Bump, anyone?
Have you a bumper on the phone or other case protection ?
Depends on which battery I use, if its the official 2000 mah battery then I use a cheap £1 mesh case. If its the standard battery then I don't use any. The extended battery is now charging.
A friend with a phone shop told me to warm the batteries up before putting them on charge and to my surprise its worked, weird since batteries were saying over heating

What is gpsd and why is it eating up all my battery today?

Phone has been unplugged for 9 hours and the battery is down to 17 percent. I looked at my battery usage and this gpsd is eating it up.

It's related to your gps. Did you download anything that could be using it. Google it and it could possibly be malware that's stayed on even if you've uninstalled the culprit app. Recommend a full wipe

Just a little update: I let the battery run out, recharged it, and the phone has been fine today. gpsd doesn't even show up on the battery usage screen.
Maybe it was something that got stuck on yesterday.

So odd--same thing happened to me. Noticed it dropping like a rock, looked and it's gpsd running. I haven't used anything with gps. I'm on omega 5.0 with stock kernel. Rebooting now.

So is it better after rebooting?
Well?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I can only guess that GPSD is obviously the GPS demon, which means turning off GPS does not affect it, however it would seem that a process is locking up the demon, so another application would be hogging it. A Reboot will fix the problem however, well until you launch that app which nails it again.
Samsung Dive also triggers gpsd and doesn't shut it down. After reboot it is solved.

Now that you mention it, I was messing around with dive when this happened.

facebook app also seems to turn gps on. As buggy as that app is, I wouldn't put it past it to mess up the gps part as well.
I had the same thing too. A reboot seemed to solve it. I wasn't using dive.

Restart the phone and suddenly battery has half of the juice!

Hi all, as the description says it's quite weird. While I have let's say 56% battery and for some reason I restart the phone, then suddenly after booting it show I have 18%!!! (screenshot attached)

I have latest 4.0.4 official UK unbranded firmware and it happened on 4.0.3 too. I have tried factory reset and doing a battery cycle.
Could it be a pure battery problem or may it be a bug? Anyone else has this problem?

I also have this problem... It's a huge issue for me! Constantly having to recharge! grrrrrr!
I'm running 4.0.3 UHLPK
Have you tried recharging to 100%, taking battery out for at least 3 mins (180 secs), then allowing full discharge?

Yep tried that. Tried anything I can think of.
Yes I have tried all those battery tips in general...even tried to leave the battery disconnected from the phone for one night after doing a full discharge and them charge with the device turned off.

It's normal. The fuel guage chip in GSII doesn't need calibration, but the downside is sometimes after rebooting below 60-50% battery it can show wrong battery info. The battery still has power just reporting is wrong. If you wait for sometime you'll see the battery climbing back to pre reboot state.
So DON'T PANIC normal operation.
Restarting the phone resets the fuel gauge. If you leave it for a while, the battery will come back
Thanks for the replies!

Battery question

Hi guys, after a little cruising around the forums I managed to get my galaxy s2 working just how I want! I have a question though... whenever I do a battery pull or restart my phone the battery life shoots down like crazy!? Does anyone else's i777 do this? Is it normal or do I need to fox something. All the roms I have used have this issue for me. I am on CM9 right now. Please share your thoughts! You can see the 2 pulls I did during the day

You should not pull the battery out while the phone is on. Holding the power button for about 20 seconds achieves the same result. Hope this helps

This is something I think all of our phones experience. The way I understand it is a bug in our battery's fuel gauge, the battery level does not actually drop, but the phone just mistakenly reads it that way. I've read a few posts where if you remove your battery for a couple minutes and then charge the phone to a 100% after putting it back in, it recalibrates things. It seems to work for me until I flash other roms, but I cannot confirm 100% if it really does work.
Very true and sometimes its very frustrating to see a drop from 40% to less than 10% right after a reboot.
Will some battery calibrating apps can fix this?

[Q] SII Sever Battery Issues after 4.0.4 and even while phone it is switched off

Most of Galaxy SII users have had good battery backup but not me, my phone once went into a bucket filed with water. Had a friend to open it up and clean it with a chemical (Usually used to clean phones circuits)
The phone was fine, then battery problems came up, changed the battery still has issues average time it lasts is for 8-9 provided i do not use it for anything but 2-3 calls or text. or 3-4 hrs is maximum. All this has happened after 4.0.4 update.

Can anyone please explain what the problem is with this phone. I am not sure if it is a bug/hardware problem. the phone is out of warranty now.
**I am a noob, I do not know how to root a phone however one of my friend helped me root HTC Wildfire which now has EPIC Battery life.
Thank you

it is common when you drop your phone into the water that the battery will start having problems.
For example suddenly you get a drop from100 percent to 50 percent.
I could be wrong, you can check the guide that is in my signature for your battery problems.

The thread is FAB! but like I said I am a noob hence doing everything you suggested is tough for me to understand. Looking at things like removing live wallpapers, stopping auto sync, keeping wifi and data plan off minimum brightness. I have tried it all. Still the problem exists.
Short circuit, perhaps? My suggestion would be to bring it to samsubg and see if they can repair it. I think it's a hardware problem

Seems more like it but they say there is a bug in 4.0.4. Should I try root before handing it over to samsung or just leave it up to them?
