I've read a bunch of the threads regarding rooting my Rezound and started the process the other night, but seem to have confused myself. I'd like to get some input as to what I need to do next before I do it.
I unlocked the bootloader and loaded Amon Ra 3.15 recovery. After going through that and rebooting, I have the Superuser app installed, but Titanium Backup says it cannot obtain root privileges. When booting into the bootloader, the top of the screen says "Tampered" and "Unlocked". Do I need to relock it, unlock it again and immediately run superuser through recovery? Or can I just load a rooted ROM? I am currently S-On, but my ultimate goal, I think, is to be S-Off. I guess I'm a little confused as to which point I can do the wire trick to get S-Off.
Thanks for any help.
Do a search for a supersu.zip that you can flash in recovery. That should get you where you need to be. Or be fore you do that you can try to install superuser via the amon ra developer menu.

Uninstall superUser
Download the latest version of SuperSU zip file and install it with Amon RA recovery

I'll give that a shot. Thanks. Once I do that, I should be good to go on trying the wire trick, correct?

You don't even need s-off to flash roms everything is achievable in both s-on and off it just changes how you go about doing some things. but it make everything easier

I installed the unrooted ICS but i have tried over 5 different superuser.zips and note of then will root my device. I even tried a zerg rush root script and it failed with htc sync, without it, in bootloader, in fastboot, in recovery and off. I would appreciate a way to flash a superuser.zip, i tried the prerooted earlier and i got extreme stability issues

Sometimes Amon Ra doesn't work. Usually you have to use this method as a 2nd resource. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22680227&postcount=1036. Honestly I prefer using the 2nd method and flashing this .zip
So I see there's a way to unlock the bootloader via HTC, is there anything there way besides that? For example revolutionary. Link would be helpful too since I'm on mobile. Thanks I'm advance!

nope, no other way yet.
Read around.
Only two ways to unlock bootloader.
By HTC or S-OFF by Juponutbear.
Either way, you have to do HTC's unlock before you can do the S-OFF procedure.
There's no revolutionary-ish method I'm aware of, root comes easily through ROMs, flashing a SU.zip, or adding superuser through Amon Ra.

You must do HTC unlock first.
This unlocks the bootloader and allows you to root.
Then you must root, and the only method of doing that that I'm currently aware of is to use Amon Ra to root the phone.
Then you can get S-OFF via the Juopunutbear method.

No.
Only a custom recovery, which would at least need HTC's unlock.

Hey OP, there are root methods for the stock firmware, the 1.02.605.6 that comes with the phone new.
If you have not gone to the OTA firmware yet, 2.01.605.11, you can use those root methods.
Someone else feel free to tell me to go back to sleep, if I need it, too
Edit 3: Removing my tinfoil hat and going back to sleep for now, sorry.
Okay I'm on the latest version. Will the tool from the development forum work still?

If you are updated to the OTA firmware, you can only accomplish root by Unlocking the bootloader first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415615
This guide details the process succinctly and is what I used, however:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504824
If you download the All-In-One toolkit and follow the guide it can simplify the process greatly. Perm Root option is in the Extras section for you after Unlock, and AmonRa recovery is recommended. Some ClockworkMod users have some nasty trouble charging battery when it becomes fully drained.

I got my Evo 3d off Craigslist this morning and i love it. Traded my Evo 4g plus cash for it and i couldnt be happier. I was very successful in rooting the 4g amd never had any problems that i can think of and im hoping the same goes for the 3d.
Anyways ive been reading and reading on how to root it, get s-off so i can install a recovery and them flash a rom and kernel. Ive managed to confuse myself because it seems that if you root it one way, you may not be able tp fash custom kernels and if you use another method to root it, your more than like to have all sorts of problems.
Basicall i need help and if someone could post a link to show me best method on how to root, s-off, install custom recovery, and install a rom on the 3d it would be greatly appreciated.

The twrp recovery has a method to flash that recovery without a computer by downloading it as a zip and naming it properly. See their site for detail.
I still recommend s-off since it is easier to flash Roms and the ics Roms tend to bootloop with s-on.

It looks like you renamed it to the wrong thing. If you downloaded TWRP 2.2.0 zip, it must be renamed PG86IMG.zip on the root of the sd card. Then when you update in bootloader, it should work.

Hmmm... Does your phone boot? If so, you could download 4ext (see my signature) and install their app. Then it will push the custom recovery for you. I use 4ext myself anyway.

Your welcome. Glad you figured it out. I personally have never had an issue with the 4ext recovery.
I have bootloader ver 1.05.0000 and my S is on. I am trying to get it turned off. Both revolutionary and thunderbolt tool fail at the rooting portion. I already hack clockworkmod flashed and am running a thunderstick full blown (for now). I want to update my radios and attempt to fix my wifi. So how do I go about getting the s-off on this thing. I have adb and can log into the phone push/pull files and send it commands. What am I missing?
Ever since i flashed clockwork and got a working rom installed my wifi has been KIA.
Thanks,
Barry
I tired this method: http://www.thunderboltforums.com/fo...690-downgrade-get-s-off-now-unneccessary.html
No dice. Still says S-on revolutionary still didnt work thunderbolttool worked then opened revolutionary, but revoutionary still failed.
What now?
Make sure you disable your computers firewall and virus protection. Sometimes it can cause it to hang up.
Also make sure USB debugging is turned on.

It seems to me that you're going to have to unroot. Restore the stock ROM RUU and unroot. Then root again with the tool and then you will have s-off.

You don't need to downgrade, but you do need to be on a stock rom (.19 or lower) for the root to work. Here's a stock .19 ruu that should work for you: http://goo.im/devs/trter10/PG05IMG.zip
edit: just noticed the last post. Just going to warn you, you will not be able to flash an ICS or AOSP ROM with just htcdev unlock

re install clockworkmod recover and custom rom
Sound right?
In terms of my WIFI what could be wrong with it? It doesnt work on any custom rom.

Well I give up After relocking the phone and installing the stock ruu I tried both the revolutionary toool and the tbtool. Both failed when they tried to root/s-off. I tried unlocking the phone then running both tools again. Same result. So I'm back to stock for now until I figure out what I am missing.
Thanks for all the help,

XDA has been great help so far with unlocking my phone, but I've gotten stuck and can't find an answer anywhere.
Since following several guides to unlock my phone via HTC Dev, flash a recovery and superuser image (which may not have worked), changed the CID, and ran Juopunuts bears s-off tool, which has given me s-off.
RootChecker has confirmed my phone is NOT rooted. I cannot run 4EXT or BusyBox. My phone was definitely unlocked before I ran Juopunuts Bears/wire trick, and so I think I must not have properly flashed the superuser file.
My question is - If the bootloader is still unlocked after I set s-off, can I just flash Superuser from here, or do I need to start over again? (ie. go back to Stock RUU, s-on, etc). And is there a tutorial link anyone can recommend to follow, along with an up-to-date superuser image?
My bootloader doesn’t say Unlocked anymore, it says Juopunuts bears. My hboot is now 1.5.7777.
Cheers, and apologies for the noob question!
Just boot into recovery and flash superuser...or supersu
Probably should wipe dalvik first
Hope that helps

Thanks so much for clarifying! I figured the s-off would have granted the same control, but wanted to play it safe.
It also helped digging around for the latest CWM and SuperSU, I think I was using versions from 2011 (there's not too many modern tutorials for the Evo 3D now!)
