Hi!
Yesterday i thought: "Hey! It would be a great idea to root my phone!", sadly I had no idea what I was doing...
So, I followed this guide on cnet, didn't realised that the guide was about a year old..
So basically, i can get 2 screens. When I turn it on, I get Samsung Galaxy SII's logo. Nothing more, nothing less. And it stays that way. Doesn't load anything besides from that...
Then when I press Vol Up + Home + Power, I get a screen with 4 options:
1. Reboot system now Does no good, results in the bootup "Samsung logo"..
2. Apply opdate from sdcard Haven't got an sdcard in the device..
3. Wipe data/factory reset Does nothing except rebooting the device, and then comes the "Samsung logo"
4. Wipe cache partition Does nothing.
I can't restore it from "Wipe data/factory reset", all it does is reboot the phone. The other options doesn't change a thing either.. Can someone please help me? Or atleast link to a thread with a solution(so far I haven't been able to find any..)?
Thank you so much! And I'm sorry if this thread violates any guidelines.
If you had no idea how you root why did you attempt? That is risk.
If you follow the guides on this very forum they will help you.

You just need to flash a kernel compatible with your firmware version via Odin.
Please answer these question:
1.What's the model no of your phone?
2. Is your phone on ICS or gingerbread before the problem started?
Swyped from my Galaxy SII
Just be glad you didn't hard brick your device. Aslong as you can see the Samsung Galaxy screen at start up, you can still fix whatever problem you're having. Have a good look on the forum (I would have tried to find you the appropriate links, but it's a big section the SII one lol)
Good luck and take your time with these things.
Thanks for the quick replies!

That's a soft brick , not a hard brick
Get into download mode ( volume down + home + power till u see the samsung logo , as soon as u see it , release the combination)
Download odin3 v1.85
Download samsung drivers
Download siyah kernel http://www.gokhanmoral.com/public/files/siyahkernel/v3.0/Siyah-v3.3.3d.tar and flash via odin ( insert the file using PDA button in odin) after that put a rom.zip on ur ext sdcard and flash it via recovery mode using install zip from sdcard in recovery
OR just download litening rom 6.1 from here http://db.tt/5k6MRAZH ( it is gingerbread 2.3.6 and already rooted .. Installing siyah will root ur phone automatically too )
I dont think the tutorial on cnet has got any flaws.
I just rooted my phone using same tutorial.
Never be in a hurry. With XDA u need nt worry .
lol I was a noob, just installed CM9 today so feeling confident.
Thanks for all your help! I got it working following Jokesy's and Tefanym's help, big thanks!
Will definitely look closer at what guides i will follow now

Heyyy, buddy just relax...
1. Go download mode (odin mode) - [((Using three combos, if not from recovery mode to download or using jig))]
2. Flash stock rom I9100XWLPX (4.0.4) using ODIN software..
3. Then again in download mode flash custom kernel for root.. Flash Siyah kernel for touch and dual boot... better support
4. Then you can download install new roms in siyah kernel recovery BUT BEFORE FLASHING WIPE DATA/DALVC CAHCE..
Its good practice wiping data because it only clear installed apps and apps data that's it....
It just minor software reason are simple you might download broken or might have flashed rom without wiping or whatever be the case it fails to boot thats it....

I recently updated my phone from 2.3.3 to Cyanogenmod 7.1 I believe and went to overclock the phone, Unfortunately, I overclocked it too much and now it is stuck in an endless loop on the boot screen..
Phone is obviously a Galaxy Ace, Network carrier is Vodafone UK.
I have been trying for the last two hours to look for answer's on how to fix this and I haven't found anything, So I thought the best idea was to come to here.. Any help would be appreciated, I have also tried to install other ROM's on to the phone to correct it but it look's like the CPU is still at the overclocked setting and because of that, Won't boot up.
thanks.

I tried wiping everything before but will give ODIN a try. Thank you. I really like the phone and am trying my best to get it working again. lol
So, I downloaded ODIN and I have absolutely no idea what I am doing.. I don't want to risk breaking the phone anymore.. The only tut on how to use ODIN is for the Galaxy 3..
I have never done anything like this before so it's all new to me.. :/
Ok, I used ODIN and I have the original ROM that came with the phone, But still in an endless loop on the Samsung boot screen.. :/ I am totally stuck now.. I have tried all I know to get it to work
I managed to sort the problem, the "One Package" on ODIN didn't work, Luckily I had the 4 seperate files needed on my laptop, So all is workign now.

Excellent work having a backup on your laptop. First thing now do a full backup on your phone before you think about further experiment. If overclocking make sure "set at boot" is not ticked. Finally read up a little on xda before you do anything - a good place to start is "Tutorial" on top of dev section and the "q & a " thread here.
I hope this works for You.
You've a one packege STOCK Rom?
so open ODIN 4.38
Untick Reset Time
Choose your one package file.
choose OPS; attatched here.
press start.
to sum up: you have this ticked only:One package, auto reboot, protect OPS
if doesnot work go to recovery and try factory reset& cache wipe.
if doesnot work, try flshing CWM and install any backed up rom, if you want one. just PM and i will upload backed up stock rom.
I really hope it helps because I got the same issue after flshing a stock from ODIN, but been removed from wipe data& factory reset.

I had a boot loop on my galaxy s 2 .. out of nowhere didnt do anything.
It was too weird. I spent time reading lots of forums about this and saw different techniques.
What i did was i flashed back to 2.3.6. Did factory reset. then flashed back to ICS.
I think it happened because of some cache bull****. Just thought i should share.
Boot Loop Solved
I don't know where to post this so I'm posting it here. I have been scouring the internet for HOURS trying to figure how others got out of boot loop so I could get my phone out of it. I have a samsung galaxy s2 i9100g. I was in the process of unrooting it and while rebooting after installing the stock rom BOOM- boot loop to the samsung logo. I tried everything; battery out, in, pushing all combinations of volume(s)+home+power= nothing worked. Finally after a lot of trial and error one thing worked. I unplugged my USB and took the battery out, then while holding the three buttons I put it back in- and suddenly after hours(of trying to get something to happen) I got the download screen. (My phone wouldn't turn off or go into recovery as other suggested). So I downloaded a different stock rom and tried reinstalling via odin a few times but the problem persisted- still boot loop, still only download mode. Then I tried something different. When in download mode I decided to see what would happen if I pushed the volume down to 'reboot'. To my amazement my phone started up and went past the samsung logo for the first time in FOUR HOURS. It went into recovery mode! Then I factory reset it, and restarted it. So keep at if you think your phone is soft bricked or boot looped. I appreciate everyone else's questions/answers that kept me going while trying to figure out something that worked for me. So I'll break it down into steps.
1)unplug USB, take out battery. Hold down volume (holding down the 'down' volume worked for me), home and power button then quickly slide the battery in(while still holding down till the screen comes up). It may take a few times but the 'download mode' screen should come right up.
2)using odin install the stock ROM for your phone
3)when re installation is complete follow step 1 to get into download mode
4)instead of clicking the volume up for download, click down to restart and recovery mode should come up
5)factory reset your phone and reboot
I genuinely hope this helps someone. Nothing worse than rendering your phone useless.

The problem is I don't find a ODIN that works... links seem to be broken.
I have even risked to download a couple (4) different odin versions and some windows drivers / stock roms from the wild internet (who knows what crap those executables and files may come with), but I had no success with it...
I don't know how we can find trustable files that are required, or at least verify checksums somewhere to be sure that we don't get any unrequested present instead....
Will create or post in there asking for some help I think...
Hi all,
I was running XWLPT and decided to try Chameleon 1.3. After flashing, it would not boot up. I've tried all kinds of things for the last 2 days, and read quite a bit. I've even tried the method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
At the moment, I can get into recovery and I can get to download (power+vol down+middle button). But it's stuck at the Galaxs SII GT-I9100 very beginning boot up. Nothing seems to be working. I've tried several pit repartition and I know it's risky. But at this point, I have nothing to lose I guess.
Can anyone help?

Boot into recovery, wipe data (factory reset), wipe cache and try to flash the custom ROM again.
Good luck !
The issue is, I can't even wipe factory data. It will start and then just sits there, unable to complete the wipe. I'm so out of ideas.

Have you tried upload stock rom to phone on download mode? I saw your checked link, maybe you should try with different stock roms like 2.3.5 and etc.. If you try that, what the say ODIN as error?
Flash a siyah kernel with odin.afther you have cwm...

First of all stop doing things that you are not sure about...
If you can get into Recovery then your problem is simple.
1. Wipe Data/Factory Reset,
2. Wipe cache partition,
3. Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache,
4. Flash a new rom (from sdcars probably),
5. Wipe cache partition,
6. Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Let me know if this helped.
Hey guys, I apreciate all the responses. panagiostis4te - I am unable to wipe data/factor reset. It just hangs trying to do that. I've let it sit and it never completes.
sinasi11 - ODIN never throws an error. Depending on what firmware I flash, it either get stuck at datafs or data. It just sits there. I've even left it overnight and nothing happens.
I was able to flash to completion a few or the 4.0.4 rom (XWLPF) and it would reboot, show the android logo with animated progress bar. Then it reboots and is then stuck at the Galaxy S2 very first boot screen. I'm so out of ideas.

Questions:
1 . Have you seen This Warning Thread before?
# I don't think so
2. Were you running a safe Custom kernel before flashing Chameleon?
# I don't think so.
Here are my conclusions
1.
You were affected by the infamous Brick bug.
# You should blame yourself for this, for apparently failing to read that sticky warning thread, or even ask questions before messing with your phone while running the Dreadful ICS 4.0.4 firmware!
2.
The reason why your phone is still partially coming on is because you have a partially insane emmc chip.
# If you were using a fully insane chip, your phone would just black out without any sign of life.
3.
Your Nand /Emmc chip is corrupt!
4.
You can try combinations of pit file and ICS bootloader (where suggested). Who knows, you might be lucky
# Visit here and try the suggested solution
## If it doesn't work, then you can try the combinations suggested here.
5.
Jtag service will probably not work for you.
6.
The only (probably) solution (if the suggestions in 4. doesn't work for you), will be for you to replace the motherboard of your phone.
# Changing motherboard costs between $120 to $200
7.
If your phone is still under a valid warranty, the best solution would be to send it to Samsung Service center. Repair if free.
Sorry about what happened to your phone, but you really must shoulder the blame!
jokesy - thanks for the suggestions. I accept the blame. I was running stock and I read the Chameleon 1.3 thread and didn't see any warnings. I thought everything was safe. I guess lesson learned the hard way!

I seriously don't know but if you have any important thing you want to extract from your backup, follow these steps:
1. Flash siyah kernel
2. boot to CWM recovery,
- dual boot options
- restore ROM to 2nd ROM (you need about 2.1 Gig free in your internal storage)
- done
3. Boot to your Second ROM
- Extract all info you need
4. Restore these info to your 1st ROM
5. you can delete the Second ROM when done, using the same dual boot menu in CWM recovery.
Thanks Jokesy. I did have 2 backups, Titanium and another backup app (name escape me at the moment). I think I'll restore app data and do it that way instead.
Just go back to original OS

You can go back to the original OS using Odin and a package found on many sites for the original Gingerbread that came on it... then go to Kies and update to the ICS and there you go. I have done this several times and unbricked mine after a mod. This was the best way for me.

You said you have Titanium - it can restore elements out of a nandroid backup, almost everything, stright back into place. Much easier than second ROMs.

Good to know. I am actually waiting for my microsd to sd adaptor to arrive. I accidentally formatted my microsd card with all my data in desperation of trying whatever method to format the device. I accidentally selected format emmc. Took out the card immediately, and am hoping to be able to unformat it in windows since it's using fat32. Fingers crossed!
Hi everyone,
I gave it a shot at rooting my phone and upgrading it from android 4.0.3 to 4.2.1 (rootbox) but I failed miserably. Somewhere in between the phone got stuck at that warning yellow marker and it would only allow me to get into download mode. After trying 5-6 different firmware versions, I finally managed to get one of them to work with Odin and the phone works once again but this firmware version does not work with kies.
I have no idea what the original version was, but I can get all the details from an identical phone from the same operator if you tell me what would be needed. I know it is a silly question, but is there a way to download the firmware from another identical phone used by the same operator?
I want to either restore the phone to a firmware version of local Swiss operator or properly manage to upgrade the firmware to a light version of android so I won't have to deal anymore with all those useless default apps which start automatically and eat up the battery.
I welcome any and all advices.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for the help. With this new firmware on I finally managed to install RootBox 3.8 with Android 4.2.2.
It would be great if I someone would lend a hand in fixing the following 2 small, but quite annoying issues:
1. finding a way to remove 3 of the 5 home screens - I just don't need them and its annoying.
2. finding a way to disable the vibrations that happen whenever I use the on-screen keyboard to write anything

1. If you are on TwLauncher (original one) put two of your fingers on opposite corners or homescreen and then move both fingers to middle. Then you'll see all homescreens and just long press one and a dustbin will appear. Put the homescreens on it
2. Settings > sound > there it will be an option to have you vibrate while pressing and you can uncheck it.
This is very basic stuff, you should explore everything on your phone before asking questions. Keep in mind for next time.
Till then, cheers.

This is very basic stuff, you should explore everything on your phone before asking questions. Keep in mind for next time.
Till then, cheers.

Thanks for the feedback. Be it basic or not, it simply does not work. I used the basic Rootbox as described in this thread.
1. No matter how much I move my fingers on the screen no menu appears
2. System settings >> Sound >> "vibrate on touch" is disabled yet the phone vibrates when I type on the screen keyboard which is really annoying to others if I am in a meeting ... I googled for about 6 hours for a solution and when I failed to find one I posted here. I am sure that the time of everyone here is quite precious I would never want to waste it.

Thanks a lot gastonw. I am now cMIUI which should be based on CM10 and even though it is based on Android 4.1.2 instead of 4.2.2 it is still running great.

If you can get to the samsung boot logo, then no. Can you access recovery? Or just download mode? If you can access recovery, then factory reset>clear cache>clear dalvik cache and flash one of the firmwares you'd have on your sd card, assuming that you used CWM to flash a zip in the first place (you said that you had cMIUI and rootbox working, go back to one of those.) If you can't get into recovery, then try download mode. You need to keep trying to flash with Odin if you can only access download mode. There's a set of troubleshooting steps to follow if you get another bad Odin flash. Search through my posts for them, I posted them a week back or so.

If you're attempting to flash a stock ROM through CWM recovery, stop now. That'll never work. The only way to flash a stock ROM is to use Odin, Mobile Odin (which in your case won't work, requires phone to boot) or Heimdall (I've never used this personally). So if you're using recovery, DON'T flash stock. You have two options to flash a ROM at present:
1) Stock ROM using Odin
2) Custom ROM using CWM recovery.
Done and working Thanks a Lot

2. Stweaks,Super User and CWM have disappeared how do i get it back??
3. Strange thing Whatsapp is not working Unable to connect using my datapack
4. Can i Software update irrespective of the JB Stock ROMs region I am from.
Good job getting it working again now, time for you to do some reading. Read about what flashing a custom kernel will do for you. Then pick one that's compatible with your firmware and flash it.

Can you flash any s2 stock rom? I see there is difference in the modem code for different countries...
I have
PDA: I9100XWLSH
CSC: I9100OPSLSB
MODEM: I9100XXLS9
So i belive only this ver of stock rom can be flashed???
Hello everyone
here's the story from the start:
I was chatting on Skype when my Galaxy S II GT-I9100 suddenly freezed. I removed the battery and booted the phone but it was stock at the Samsung logo.
What happened since then:
1- My device has never been rooted before.
2- I was running official Jelly Bean 4.1.2
3- I have only access to download mode.
4- I tried flashing stock Jelly Bean "I9100XWLSD_I9100OJVLS6_I9100XXLS8_HOME.tar" and "I9100_CODE_I9100XXLPH_CL118559_REV02_user_low_ship.tar" using Odin 3.07 and Odin 1.83.
5- The device started to show "firmware upgrade encountered an issue ..."
6- Tried to flash stock kernel. "KERNEL_XWLPM"
7- Tried to flash custom kernels. "Siyah-s2-v5.0.1" and "Siyah-s2-v6.0b5"
8- In download mode: Current Binary changed from "official" to "custom" and Custom Binary from "no" to "yes" (3 counts) WHAT IS THIS?
Questions:
1- Is my S II soft bricked or hard bricked?
2- Can I install CWM recovery with my S II in the current situation? I read somewhere in the forum that this could help me install a custom rom.
3- Can I flash custom roms via Odin? I have no problem using any rom available I just want my S II working again
4- Please keep in mind that I'm new to this so I hope that you can provide me with step by step instructions.
5- Thank you everyone in advance for your help.
Flash JB leak:
PDA: LSJ
PHONE: LS6
CSC: LS1

no luck
Try another usb port.
Sent from the little guy
1- tried different usb ports. even usb 3.0 ports
2- tried different Samsung drivers. (kies is not installed)
3- used the usb cable that came with S II.
What about Re-Partitioning the device, will that help? What are the danger of using it?
It won't, it'll likely brick your device.
Install kies, by installing different drivers you're creating conflict.
If it fails, try with another PC/laptop.
Sent from the little guy
downloaded kies; still nothing!
don't you think my S II is bricked already? If so, what options do I have?
It's not.
Keep trying

Since you can still go to "download mode", first recharge your battery till full, get CWR and flash CWR only via ODIN, boot to recovery, format system, cache, data partitions. Obtain any custom ROM, flash with custom rom via CWR. Your device id soft brick only .... have FUN dude !!!
a million thanks x1123
However, I have few questions on my mind:
1- How am I supposed to know that the battery is fully charged while the screen displays "firmware upgrade encountered an issue ..." while charging?
2- Where can I get CWR? Would you be so kind to provide a link?
3- Which custom rom is the most stable that you can recommend?
4- Do I need to flash a new kernel? Which one is the most stable\safe?
thank you so much for all the help

thank you Raghavendra_atp for the advice but I already tried that but my device refused to be flashed due to NAND corruption.
I'd appreciate it if you could read my first post to know more about my current situation. Thank you.

If that means u r mobile motherboard is gone it will cost nearly 8000rs sorry for that b'coz i had also same problem
i replace the mother baord in samsung service center
Have you tried following the guide on how to recover a soft bricked GS2?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
On an off chance, are you trying to flash a rom for an i9100, but maybe you have an i9100G (newer GS2)?
This can be checked on the sticker behind the battery. Just suggesting that because you were previously on the factory rom.
I did follow that guide; tried flashing the provided kernel with no luck.
I'm positive that I have i9100 not i9100G.
How much does a motherboard cost in USD?!!
150 buck but I'm pretty sure this is a drivers conflict.
Keep trying, we've got plenty of threads about that.
