Noob'd out- Jellybean camera help - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I use quickpic so I deleted the Gallery and didnt back it up. :crying:
I backed up lots of stuff but I "knew" I wouldn't need this, well little did I know it's a package deal
Anywhere to get this, rather not wipe/flash the ROM on again as I just did Alpha 7 from FJ ROM yesterday from Alpha 5.
Thanks very much

Just extract it from your ROMs zip file and put it in /system/app then change permissions to rw-r--r-- (644 I think) and reboot.
I cold send you mine, but I'm on ParanoidAndroid and I'm not sure if the app is the same. It will be Gallery.apk or Gallery2.apk depending on your ROM.

Just reflash your rom zip file. It won't do anything but replace the deleted stuff.
For future experiments, use Titanium Backup and freeze any app to see what else that app affects.

Accidentally deleted the stock Camera.apk

So I was using Titanium Backup and accidentally deleted the camera app without a backup so I am hoping someone can send me the Note I717 stock camera APK...thank you!
galaxy note I717 camera.apk
I tried sending via PM but evidently the site was having problems with me sending a PM. I would be more than happy to send it to you. What is your email address?
[email protected]
thank you so much
you should have mail (;
i got it thanks, but the app will not install, do i drop the file in a specific folder?
should go in "system/app"
im gonna have to odin reflash the stock software cause it's not working, thank you for all your help tho, i do appreciate it
You're welcome, sorry it didn't work out for you.

Glad to hear that.
This same thing happend too me today, I was trying to install a mod for the samsungcamera.apk and i copied a back up of the camera.apk and went to install the modded one but it wont let me..so i said screw it ill go back to the stock one..and when i click on it too install it says application not installed.
Soo..in other words im SOL but ill have a look around and see where i can find a resolution. The problem isnt that i dont have the stock camera.apk cuz i do have a back up its just it refuses too install now... ughhh Lol
***UPDATE***
I could not install the samsungcamera.apk stock & the modded one.
I tried everything possible..flashing it through cwm as a .zip file & had signature verification turned off
even tried copying and pasting manually..
What I just resorted to just installing camera360 from the playstore..
this solved my issue of not having a camera at all.
Remember i tried re-installing the original camera.apk that i backed up and for some
reason it wouldnt let me install it. Dunno if it had to do with permissions or just because its a system app.
But im glad i have camera360 i have alot of new features and filters Go filters!! haha
still if anyone has a resolution to installing the apk let us now im desperate!!!
U can't install system apps. U have to use something like root explorer, put it in system/apps folder, fix the apk permissions and reboot

[Q] Apps adding to ROM before flashing

Hello,
I would like to try one of the FishmanMod ROM but would like to add my own apps into the FishmanMod ROM. Can I just copy them into /system/app and they will get installed when I flash the ROM?

Get 7zip if you don't have it. Use 7zip to "open" the rom, not extract it.
Copy the .apk's to /system/app or data/app whatever's appropriate, then close the zip. Be aware some apps have dependent files or are dependent on the framework so they might not work.
Thanks, will give it a spin!
So technically, I can use all the .apks from my titanium backup save, and put them into system/app and have it all flash pretty quick >10 minutes and be good?
Just curious seems like a better idea than
Flashing ROM
Waiting for first boot
setup wifi
going to market to find and install titanium backup
waiting for everything to finish restoring after 20 minutes
etc.
Not sure about that bc of some variables with the services.jar and framework-res files but for generic apps like Angry Birds or something like that it seems like it should work. Batch restore suck with TB and usually cause more problems than worth it, so this could be a better option for that.
I am piece some theme parts for a Froyo build and was thinking of trying this out.
Tip for you buddy. Make a flashable zip of Titanium and you can flash it right after your ROM as either a /system or /data app. Then when your ROM boots up, launch it, search for your back up folder, restore your pro key and away you go without ever logging into the market. I do this all the time.
Love your new signature btw.
I've been doing this for a while now, but I do it with root explorer. I extract the ROM onto my SD, replace the mms.apk, and add a few others in system/app, then rezip, and flash. Haven't tried putting anything like TB in data/app, but probably will now.

Deleted Phone.apk

I deleted my the Phone.apk file on my rooted Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1CWY/XAA) running the stock rom awhile back to save on battery life.
I have done the same thing on my Nook Color, and figured that it wouldn't cause any problems, as the Player isnt a phone.
Recently tried to record some video, and found I was unable to do so. After doing some research I found out that deleting phone.apk causes the stock camera app, but not 3rd party camera apps, to stop functioning.
While I was sure to backup the file when I originally deleted the file, the backup has been lost in the intervening months.
Do I just need to find a specific phone.apk file for my device and return it to the correct directory?
I assume a factory reset will solve the problem, but I would rather not try that unless I have to.
Thanks!
a factory reset will not solve the problem, since it was a system .apk it will reset everything except for that particular apk.

In which case do I need to track down a copy of that specific apk or will I need to download odin and perform a full recovery?
put back the phone.apk file back on your device. Go to a ROM(best if its that ROM you are using) Find the phone.apk, and take it out. Then transfer it into your device, and use Root Explorer or something and put back phone.apk.
i dont think that will work because i uninstalled the screencapture.apk from my 5.0 and i backed it up so i tried to reinstal and it would not let me... but try aznflawless' way first if not you may want to flash a stock based rom...

This seemed to work for me!
I tried looking in various roms before, but they were all formatted for flashing with odin.
I should have just went straight for the cwm package. *slaps forehead*
Thanks so much!
i shall try that sir thanks
As others said... find the phone.apk... preferably from the same rom you are using... use RootExplorer and copy the phone.apk to the system/apps folder. Change the permissions to match the other apps in that folder... reboot and you are good to go.
For your future reference, it is not a good idea to delete system apps without knowing what they actually do... I think you made a real good guess since phone.apk should not be on a device that is actually not a phone by function. For example, the Android Market app is actually called phonesky.apk or vendor.apk... nothing like what you would normally guess it to be, such as market.apk or something to that matter. So if I were you and I wanted to keep using my device and not brick it, I would becareful what I delete out of /system and it's sub folders...
Good luck...
Try to reinstall your custom rom!!

[Q] how to pull a .apk

I was running miui and recently switched to a jb ROM mean horsey face. I would like to have the news/weather app from miui on this ROM but have no clue how to do it. Also want to make sure I'm not going to a crew anything up by doing this. Thanks!

Extract the apk from the rom zip. Copy it to the system/app directory on your phone. Set permissions to match other apps in system rw-r-r. Reboot.
It may or may not work. If it doesn't, just delete it, no harm done.

good info...thx

Whoops....

I did a factory reset on my phone yesterday and decided to really clear out a bunch of stuff with titanium that I never use, including widgets. I deleted the stock clock app thinking it was a widget. Does anyone know where I can find that? I'm open to a different app but I'm quite happy with the stock JB clock app.
Thanks!
Did you try doing a reset again?
tell your version and Rom so someone can upload it for you
i717, 4.1.2, stock and rooted
I haven't tried that because some of the bloat I deleted previously (Yahoo, some other stuff) was gone this reset.
also there are 2 other ways to get it back
flash stock Rom and you will lose root
flash custom Rom
also next time i suggest doing a backup via CWM

Factory reset won't replace any deleted files. All it does is delete user data and downloaded apps, and makes all settings to default.
Flashing the same rom on top of your rom will replace missing files and put back all the apps you deleted.
I suggest you use Titanium to freeze any unwanted things, then run a few days like that, then eventually delete the frozen apps.
I am on Telus and when I want to revert back to stock with all the bloat (well not quite all the bloat) I simply flash the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268617
[ROM][Modems] Custom Canadian Jelly Bean - Rooted & Deodexed. A similar thread exists for ATT. Then I restore additional apps via titanium backup or my apps in play store.

here is stock clock.apk and odex file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8psbgzybq5y3ze0/ClockPackage.apk ___ https://www.dropbox.com/s/0c0u7eoyyph22c3/ClockPackage.odex. download and move to system/app and make sure permisions are set properly then reboot. if you are running a stock deodexed rom you will need to remove clock package from that rom instead.
Thanks guys!
The dropbox clock downloads but doesn't install. Permissions are correct.
did you try installing like normal apk or did you place in system/app? should place in system/app. both clock.apk and odex.apk
Like normal? I'm afraid I don't know how to do the second one.
using a file manager that has root access(i use root exploerer but there are lots) move the apks that you downloaded into system/app folder. then long press the file until you get menu to come up and select set permissions. should be rw-r--r--. change if not. then reboot.
