Quick question about updating to newest radios / HBoot - HTC Rezound

So I'm S-Off / Locked, running ViperRez 1.0.3 on 1.22.10.0421r/1.22.10.0424r radios and HBoot 2.25 (Stock, not JB).
Can I just download the 2.27 PH98IMG from http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/-Support_Files-/SuperChilPil/[ICS][2.27][STOCK][8-12]PH98IMG.zip
And flash that in HBoot, without running the RUU? I've seen a few posts where it's fine to do that, and a few that recommend flashing the RUU.

Yes, you can do that. Either way works. The link you posted is basically the RUU stripped for what you actually need from it.

That's what I figured; just wanted to check to make sure. I always want to be positively sure about HBoot / radio stuff before I attempt to flash them. Thanks for the help.

As someone new to all this, just curious why you'd want to update the Hboot? What benefit does that give you? I know there are eng hboots that offer some extended fastboot commands, but are there other reasons?

hboots and radios usually work as matched pairs, so if you want the latest radios, you also want the hboot that matches it.

Like shrike said, HBoot / Radio's usually come together when updated. New radios = new fixes, possibly better reception, etc. And now global firmware is unlocked on the latest radio, in case I were to for some reason need it (I don't forsee that ever happening...but you never know).

Not the final but another leak with a new radio. Hopefully this means the OTA is close and im praying we finally get some custom kernels. Wish we could flash the radio seperatly though.

You CAN flash the radio separately... but I believe you still need to lock the phone first and flash the firmware.img file inside a PH98IMG.zip at HBOOT.

No.. I believe you need S-OFF to flash it from recovery, or to flash it without first re-locking your phone and doing it from HBOOT.
Can we RUU back if there are issues with this build?
Im not updating until this goes final but how do we relock the device? I assume after we upgrade we can unlock again?

You appear to be correct... Even though it does say it includes new radios in the original post, the screenshot clearly shows the same radio versions that I currently have on my phone after updating the radio with con's PH98IMG.zip from the last OTA..

Yes, you would just have to go through the procedure at HTC dev again to unlock.
to relock in fast boot at a command prompt fastboot oem lock.
and that will relock it .

yep I figured they wouldn't release ever since they announced the one series of phones.
we will not see sense 4.0 because of the HTC One Series phones.
Once those are released, we have a ten fold better chance at seeing sense 4.0..Officially..
we will be getting sense 4.0 as a ROM that's stable and nice, IMO, soon.
So the phone has to be stock, not unlocked..and I can install ics that easy? Any riskz?

Just to let u guys know the screenshot is incorrect for whatever reason. I updated to the new leak and it does have new radios. I don't know how to post a screenshot but the baseband version now shows 1.22.10.0310r, 1.22.10.0308r. Also, new PRI version is 1.16_002, 2.07_002.

I completely dissagree.
as unlocked is great, as we have root.
s-off is desirebale, and this is why,
with s-off, you can flash radio's in hboot, you can't do that with s-on, you must install the OTA, RUU.
but I do agree that unlocking us is a very good thing, but s-off does have many more benefits.
with s-off we could flash the new ICS firmware, and if you didn't like it flash back to GB OTA.
withs-on, if you flash that "leak" firmware, (or any other firmware, radio, hboot) you are now stuck on them.
The main things I miss from having an s-off phone was these,
1) flashing anything and everything I wanted, I could accept OTA, flash hboots, flash radios, whatever I wanted.
this was thanks to the XTC clip and having s-off.
i miss s-off.

Thanks for clarifying this. So what you are saying is even with the MainVer "fix" (setting to low) we can't flash a GB RUU after we flash an ICS RUU?
If so then I was misinformed or interpreted my research improperly. I was under the impression that we could still do whatever we wanted even though doing so might require additional steps.
TIA
Edit: Apparently this is looking bleak. Doesn't appear as if you can downgrade the RUU. This was apparently tried unsuccessfully as discussed in the Scott's Rom thread. Really sucks and is a great reason why S-off is needed. Not that you would want to downgrade but this is MY phone dammit'.
Edit 2: Good News. Scrosler just flashed back to a GB Rom and had no issues other then the "SD Card" issue which he stated was an "easy" fix. This still doesn't allow for a radio downgrade but apparently the new radios are still compatible with the GB ROM's. LINK

Global RUU!

Alright. So I am still on the original GB firmware. I am running RezRom with Sense 4 (obviously an ICS rom) with the GB firmware patch.
I am also S-Off with JuopunutBear's 2.11 HBOOT.
I am looking to upgrade my firmware to maybe the global version 4.03.605.2 and I had my eye on upgrading my HBOOT.
What prerequisites do I need to have completely done before going about these procedures? I also am a bit confused on the firmware upgrade. The instructions seem pretty simple. I keep thinking I am missing something.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all.
bump for anything?
simple... just flash the OTA Released on Android Police.... Just remove from the zip the hboot/recovery and your good to go.
Your good to go man.

If you're sticking to the same rom you have now, you'll get no benefit from upgrading your firmware/hboot.
I am definitely going to flash a new rom. Probably the OEM one which is recommended with the new firmware. Is the newest hboot 2.24? Or 2.27.

the RUU will update your hboot automatically.
if you want to run fastboot commands you will need to download the patch update hboot and install after the ruu

Honestly if there is a new rom you are looking to move to because you like it, just flash the ruu, then flash recovery and install. I wouldn't suggest mixing radio's, hboot versions or you could run into data issues.
thank you guys for the quick replies. I guess I will just flash the RUU and the new recovery and then finally the new rom I want.
If you don't mind me asking...What are your guys' setups? New hboots? S-Off? Roms?

I was having 4g/3g switching issues where data would just drop until I toggled data, and was hoping that something in the new radios would help. I ran the ruu, installed recovery then restored to CleanROM DE. Not optimal, but it works and seems to actually improve some performance along with fixing my switching issues. Once a good senseless rom comes out I will jump on that and hopefully take advantage of the new firmware.

If you are s-off, just keep your bootloader UNLOCKED.
This is what I do.
There will be no need to relock to install leaked RUUs.
Also no need to install customized hboot. I keep the stock hboot that was installed by the RUU.
Custom hboots sounds like additional bricking risks and provide zero practical benefits at this time.
It is true that the custom jbear hboots can do more additional fastboot commands, but no developers are using them - not yet.
S-off and htcdev unlocked let's me fastboot flash kernels and recoveries.

How Can I Flash New Radios with S-On?

I have Hboot 1.15, Fresh EVO OS. And used the Regaw Autoroot following the OTA Update. I heard you can do this using fastboot or HTCdev, but I'm not sure how to do this... And could not find any answers (My concern is that the new FRESH updates use the new radios, and I updated to it, but can't flash the new radios)
If this has already been answered I apologize, but I couldn't find it.
Thank you for the help!
Dude there's threads all over the forum about this issue. Just spend 2minutes looking and you'll be all set
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
You can't update radios if you are s-on hboot 1.15. Your only option to update the radios is to relock and take the ota or install the new ruu. Then unlock again, install twrp, and then install your favorite rom. As many will state, never take the ota because you may loose ability to get s-off in the future. This may be true, but there is no s-off solution for your hboot anyway so you might as well bite the bullet now and live in the present instead of waiting for something that may never happen in the future.
Interesting. All right Thanks for your help. And as for there being threads "all over" I was getting conflicting reports, since I saw on one page where it was possible to flash using HTCdev with S-on, but there was no link or instructions given.
To address ur main concern, there is no need to update your radios. If you want to run a rom that is based off the latest update all u need to do is make sure your kernel matches the kernel in the rom. You can update your kernel with Flash img GUI, found in the app store. Just download the rom u want open flash img GUI select the rom and choose to flash kernel img. Once complete, wipe and flash rom. Njoy!

I am S-ON HBoot 1.15. Is it possible to flash HTC Stock recovery, go to stock rooted rom, use OTA root Keeper and take the new OTA?
You don't need OTA root keeper because your going to have to do HTC dev to unlock the device again.
With that being said I wouldnt recommend taking the OTA or running the ruu to update because you'll be on the new hboot
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Not to mention the new base for stock has introduced a few of its own issues that the new firmware/hboot can not fix. Several people have attempted to downgrade thinking its the best alternative and brick their phones in doing so. The new firmware doesn't change much anyway

Yes, I used ZedoMax unlock tutorial to unlock the first time. Why do you not wish to have the latest hboot?
I was hboot 1.15 when I ran the latest RUU unlocked and updated on the firmware. I decided that having the latest radio was important and you can not get one without the other right now from what I could find. So, I now have the latest radio and hboot, I unlocked the bootloader once again and reflashed my custom ROM.

Hope this helps...I love mine after the latest hboot and radio together. It now has none of those pesky issues I was fighting.
P.S. after you relock, the phone will NOT reboot. Just keep it on "bootloader usb" and then run the RUU from your computer. Then unlock again. It will be all updated and run great.
I would suggest waiting as well. Chances are your missed calls and texts aren't going to be fixed by a new radio

Its being worked on. Nobody is going to announce "oh hay guize I'm working on getting S-OFF". You'll know who is is when they find S-OFF and announce it.
What makes you think 1.19 will be found first? That doesn't really make sense.
I just think it makes more sense to have the latest radio. It was updated by HTC for a reason and everyone that wants it, not being s-off already, has to do what I did. Consequently, since the update I have LTE nearly everywhere I go in NW Houston, prior to the update was spotty connectivity at best.

Most people don't have LTE coverage yet, so for most the radio isn't worth hboot 1.19

Unless of course, you're having issues running a custom rom on the latest firmware and older hboot. Then, one may wish to look at the options even if they are the "most" as you say or the least as I clearly represent in your estimation.

latest RUU is 4.03.605.2 which i think has 2.22.10.0801r, 2.22.10.0803r
with 2.27 Hboot which you can check by going into bootloader
im not a radio genius. So someone correct me if I'm wrong
but check the rest of your "about phone section" for RUU information
4.03.605.2 is the newest radio just google i and you will find it. I use this one and I think it has more stable 4G signal,
Be advised that 4.03.605.2 is a Leak. Since you are s-on if you flash the global leak you will not be able to take any official OTAs.
I would use the official RUU which will update you and then take the OTA that just came out a couple weeks ago. Find the RUU here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
It's the top one, 3.14.605.12
Then if you are not happy with your reception you can always go up to the global leak if you want, you just can't go back down to a lower version without s-off.
Before you do this back up everything you need as this will wipe your phone and put it to factory stock.
You need to relock your phone to run it:
fastboot oem lock
And then you'll need to unlock again and flash Amon Ra before flashing a custom ROM again.

So, this build number is confusing me. This is what I presently have and I'm not sure how I got here
Baseband 2.22.10.0801 /....803
Hboot 2027
Build 1.11.401.110
Seems like everyone else with this radio combo is on build 4.03 or something like that.
Is there any advantage to me upgrading to that build? I am S-Off and hate the prospect of relocking or having my internal SD wiped if I don't have to go through that.
Build number has nothing to do with firmware. It's set by the ROM. You're already on the global firmware.

Thanks. I can sleep now.
Is there a rooted version of the RUU? I'm relatively new to locking and unlocking my device so I'm not sure if I'm ready to do all that by myself. (a friend helped me root my device in the past)

Ruu takes away root when you flash it. But you can re root in custom recovery

Ok thanks, I thought i read somewhere that there are custom RUU's that are built specifically for root users but i guess not.
Oh I've never heard of that befor. You may be thinking of the option of downgrading hboot for s-off users
Those are flashed the same way like ruu's
