Windows XP can not install usb drivers. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am using windows xp 32 bit sp3.(work pc) I can not get any of the usb drivers to install. I have used the drivers I downloaded from the tool kit 5.0 still no good.
Messege I get is phone has been used before and needs to be ejected and pc rebooted.
I have tried every way I know to do what messege says.My problem is the phone is seen as a digital camera. This is not helping matters.
I can only connect via the camera and take pictures from phone to pc. Thats all.
Any ideas? ( I am in UK)

Install KIES that install the drivers .

Does a USB icon appear on your phone at the top left of the screen when you plug into USB? If so, drag down the notification bar. Does it say "Connected as a camera"? If so, tap that and select "Media device (MTP)"

http://db.tt/bcP5fVPt or go their, download the windows drivers, and run....simples

I have that driver. with out phone connected and everything uninstalled through device manager The drivers will not go in.
Messege is still either phone is or has been used and needs to be ejected then pc rebooted before trying install again.
None of this works.
I have tried using debug mode..phone came up in Device manager but with yellow question marks..no drivers could be found.
I am on a work pc with no admin priv.
I have connected phone in MTP mode. PC still sees a digital camera.
My work mate next to me has identical pc...When I plug S3 in to his pc I can connect to pc correctly It sees phone as portable device.
I looked at the drivers via device manager. My set of drives that don't work are..
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbscan.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ptpusb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ptpusd.dll THESE DO NOT CONNECT PHONE CORRECTLY
the pc that does connect correctly use...
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wpdusb.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys THESE CONNECT CORRECTLY
How do I remove all trace of incorrect drivers and put correct ones in.
Kies does not allow my old S2 or my S3 to connect.
can not connect to microsoft update via works pc either.

I've finally fixed my usb problem on a WinXP pc by updating Windows Media Player (?!!). I was on version 9 and updated to 11. Then i've reinstalled the Samsung USB Drivers and there, it magically works. You won't probably like me, need of WMP 11 but it was the only solution for me. Hope this will work for you too. I guess, the update to WMP 11 has cleaned up and installed some required libs for the drivers, who knows.

Try to disable the usb debugging and connect GSII with the computer.
Some windows will pop up to alert you some drivers are missing.
Let the computer install drivers(just use automatic).
Done.

I think it is clear the the OP had already tried your suggestion many times, and it didn't work. I have the same problem, and have resorting to using a second PC to load files, or removing the SD card and plugging it into a separate SD card reader. I have done as you suggested many times. When I install the phone USB, it finds the USB device, selects the correct drivers, then spins for a long time and then fails.
I have not tried updating windows media player yet, will follow up with status after I do.

Silly question but have you tried uninstalling whatever drivers there is in device manager then reinstalling kies?
Just a thought

mtp relies on media player to use. had same problem until i updated my media player.

Good Thought

Thats a thought. I also might have some reminents left over from Samsung drivers. I might also try uninstalling media player completely and reinstalling.

Don't ask me how I found this or why it works....but I have 3 Xp machines and one of them worked fine after installing WMP11 but the other 2 were still not happy until I installed the attached Microsoft framework file. INSTANT success after that. Download it to your XP pc, unzip and install.
Report back please.

thanks! :good:

thank you, Thank you, Thank You! to all the solution-contributors in this thread. Updating Microsoft's User-Mode Driver Framework (either via Windows Media Player, or the direct files) solved the maddening headaches of USB connectivity with my phone on XP.

When I updated my XP pc with WMP 11, it installed version1 of User-Mode Driver Framework; the current version for XP is v1.9. The only site I found that has the direct files is http://rghost.net/36571160. I have also attached the file here.

[Q] Archos 80 G9 and Usb Driver problem

Goodmornig everyone..!
I just bought an Archos 80 G9 Turbo 16GB and I cannot connect it with my computer that runs Windows 7 64bit
When I plug it, it is detected as an Unknown Device (error code 43) and nothing is mounted.. (but tablet is in "slow charge")
In an old Win XP computer is working good, this made me think it's not completely tablet's fault..
here what I've tried, deeply searching on internet:
-Downloaded ADB android Drivers (in Archos site, on internet, various sources), forced installation of them, problem come out: Drivers are not for a 64 bit Os
-Uninstalled Kies, LG Pc suite and rebooted after every change..nothing changed
-Unactivate and reactivate after reboot Windows Media Player 12..no change
-Changed Usb Mode in tablet from MTP to PTP.. nothing changed
-Installed a lot of USB apps in Google Play and tried changing values..no change
-Upgraded tablet from GingerBread to ICS, deeply wiped and restored several times, and in every configuration, I allways had same results..
-Changed USB cable, several of them tested..and guess?? Nothing..eheh
-Tried shouting at it, tried kissing and asking for his forgiveness..but nothing
I'm stuck on Stock! i cannot upgrade it with XDA custom, I can only connect to pc via FTP server....!
Any Clues?!?!
Thank You to all!
1. To root and to enable SDE menu you need only adb driver
2. You can transfer archos.ext4.update files using FTP from pc to tablet
3. Recovery for flashing firmware update or custom kernel creates ramdisk which is seen as standard usb storage device- "just works"
You need to give full access (Everybody) to the folder where Android SDK is installed in Program Files (x86) and through Android SDK Manager select the second item "Android SDK Platfrom-tools for download.
This worked for me on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Ooops overread something... forget it!!!
Have you checked for the correct MTP driver package...
Regards,
scholbert

Strange thing, it accepted me usb drivers for Samsung Mobile, it installed them.. but not ADB from android... obviously, Samsung ones where not working with it..

Dowloaded and istalled a few from windows... the problem is, if it would be an MTP problem, I should not have it in PTP mode... I suppose...
EDIT: tried disabling Integrity Checks for non signed drivers with these string in cmd:
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
nothing changed

These are the first one I tried.. From their site.. Not working.. Thankyou!
I wrote them in Contact and support in that site, copying and pasting the same I wrote here, they answered me, two days later.. Excited in what solution they could give me,from the heights of their knowledge, I suddenly opened and the answers was:
Please write the email in English.
Are they kidding me? This makes me suppose they have not even tried in reading it.. Well.. 1000 thanks for you and you support..!

Second reply from Archos, this time they read it, but only first few lines..
their reply is:
"We invite you to connect the device to a 32 bits system and then to check if the Archos is seen by the pc."
Already done, and it's working with that (WIN XP)
Did you try to install manually the MTP driver from the device manager of the PC ?
YES.
any new clue from here?
Thankyou!

1 thing, when you are plugging into your PC, are you plugging it into the main hub (rear of PC), or a front port?
I had a devil of a job getting mine to recognise the driver, in the it turned out it really needs to be plugged into the rear port, it may have been a conflict on my PC, but worth a shot.

Yes, tried to connect it in every usb my laptop has, even tried in disconnecting every usb device and turned off the pc. After that I took off battery for a few minutes and started again.. no change... ERROR 43...!
In the old win xp pc I use front usb I installed 10 years ago, and works..!
ADB USB drivers from archos site are not recognized, it's not possible to manually select them.. I was able to select an old symbian driver I have in an old backup directory, but not that one... any clue?

Yes, that one and a modified one.. the problem is, it remains as an "Unknown Device" (error 43).
I tried now to move that driver you suggested me in USERPROFILE (c:\USERS\"myname" and c:\USERS\"myname"\.android) is this you mean?
and same error: can't find in directory any compatible driver for the device. make sure it's done for a x64 system...
It seams to me device is not recognized at all.. not PTP or MTP or USB DEBUG....
but it works with win xp...! I tried again..!
Another doubt I have is: when I plug it to the wall charger I found on the box, it goes on "Slow Charge".. is it normal? why not fast charge or Normal? may be an hint?

OK try this :-
Download the naked universal drivers attached to this post and unzip somwhere!! (got this from the Sensation forum, would say thanks but I can't remember who posted them).
Attache your G9 then go into device manager.
Now find your badly installed driver and uninstall it. Keep doing this until all drivers are uninstalled.
Now unplug and reattach G9, let windows do it's thing. You will still have a excalamation next to "Android Drivers" at this point.
Right click on the driver in device manager and "Update Driver Software", then click "Browse My Computer....", now click on "Let Me Pick from a list...", then click the "Have Disk" button. Browse to the folder where you extracted the Universal Naked Drivers and select the andorid_winxusb.inf file.
If you get unsigned warnings click on the "trust me" or whatever it says.
Driver should now be installed.
The adb_usb.ini file is really for if you use adb, if you do it need to go in c:\users\you\.android directory (create the directory if it doesn't exist).
You can test adb connectivity by using "adb devices" from the command line.
Hope this helps

I think this is probably because your USB cable only has 2 internal cables, not 4.
IIRC, the outside 2 are USB and data chat and the inside 2 are for 5v power.
If your G9 detects the cable doesn't have the two middle connections then it will do a slow charge regardless.
Are you using the cable you got with the G9??

I now tried in installing it as this samsung, just to have something to uninstall...

Samsung Galaxy S3 not recognized (with drivers)

I have installed Samsung USB Drivers manually and also tried Kies to install the newest drivers, but my Samsung Galaxy S3 still isn't recognized by my computer. What can I do?
EDIT: It only works sometimes, so when I plug it out and in like 10 times, maybe I'm lucky and it will connect once.

You can use MTP mode to copy the files to the computer.
The device will appear with a phone-logo in 'My Computer'
Just plug Samsung USB cable into USB port on a PC with the Samsung USB drivers installed and cut and paste as many GB as you want .SD Phone or EXT SD card via Windows Explorer as normal .

This problem is quite depressing Has a restore fixed it for anyone?
I use mac OSX and after searching for a month or so, I couldnt find a solution to connect via USB. So now I use 'Air Droid' app from Play Store. Its pretty good and simple!! Plus, you can do alot more stuff like send or read SMS from PC.. Dont need to connect via USB anymore
I found that installing that rootkit installed the drivers to connect via USB - didnt root it just installed it for the drivers. THANKS!

If you are using x64 Windows 7 this will EXE file can be found here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Kies\USB Driver\SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe
back this up and then you can remove KIES. This is all you need to have your phone connected without ever really needing KIES.
Or you can use the driver provided by the TOOLKIT that MSKIP has designed (thanks - love it).

Kies problem

Hi,
I have S2 and for months i backup and sync my phone via kies to my outlook. One day I update the kies software on my computer, and since then kies on my computer doesn’t work properly.
Regardless if the phone connect to the computer or not, it doesn’t show any icons in the program window and the menu options are block except the help option, see the photo.
I tried to remove and reinstall software, even remove it from the registry, waited for new upgrades, downgrade to previous version that work well on my computer, tried to upgrade java and reinstall Silverlight but nothing fix it.
I have windows 7 64bit and Kies_2.3.3.12085_7_5 version.
What else should I do??
Thanks in advance

You are right; I don’t think it related to the phone because even after new Kies installation from scratch without connecting the phone, I get at the startup window the same problem (no icons on the home window and disable options).
On another PC its work well but I need it to work well with my workstation PC at work to sync meeting & etc.
What can I change in my computer that might affect it? After all it did work well in past.
Is that so complicated issue? maybe you can refer me to another place that can handle this.

I do not know how complicated the issue is. If I knew the solution I would have posted it, believe me. I tried in vain to reproduce the error you are facing.
I also do not know any better place then XDA to seek for help, but you could try to talk Samsung directly. Sorry but I'm out of ideas
Try this (KIES SGS2 connection working)
I had a big problem with getting my SGS 2 connecting to KIES. I've got repeatedly "Cannot start service ont the device" or "device not detected".
Then I tried several combinations, like:
a. connecting the phone with the SIM and SD card,
b. connecting with SIM w/o SD
c. w/o SIM and with SD
d. w/o SIM and w/o SD
Apparently KIES started to recognize my phone when SIM card was not present (as in c and d). Then I tried to connect the phone with the SIM and SD card in but the SIM was not initilized (i.e. I wasn't entering PIN). KIES recognized the phone and then I was enetring the PIN.
Everuthing worked.
I hope this helps

I am having problems using Galaxy S3 i9300 4.1.1 with Windows 8 RTM x64.
I have installed Kies latest (2.5.0.12094_28). And i can see device is connected and i can even take backups. But when i am trying to send mp3 files it is giving an error "File Transfer from PC to 'GT-I9300' has been interrupted"
Also when the device is connected to PC via USB, i can see the contents in Windows Explorer but if i try to delete something, or upload a document there it says i dont have permisson.
With the same phone and PC, in Windows7 or XP there is no problem.
I have tried severel options like, "USB Debugging Mode", reinstall drivers, remove ghost drivers etc.
It just never worked for Windows8.
Any ideas or solutions?
I can tell you only: get used to it...nobody likes windows 8 and most likely even big companies will most likely slack doing drivers, even those who doesnt will yake their yime to make win8 drivers-dont get me wrong, i love win8, im running it since consumer preview

I mess about with stuff saved on my microSD card and phone very regularly with both my Windows 8 notebook (Release Preview) and tablet (RTM), connected by USB. My notebook has the Kies software installed, whereas the tablet doesn't. I don't have the problems you speak of.
On my notebook's Device Manager, with my phone plugged in, I have a category 'SAMSUNG Android Phone' with 'SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface' beneath it. Do you have that? My version of the driver is 2.9.503.726, dated 27/07/2012. On a side note, I also have the category 'Modems' with 'SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem' beneath it.
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers, and letting Windows install suitable drivers for you?

I have Samsung Android Phone with ADB Interface as well as Mobile USB Modem
Which version of kies are you using? Did you install the drivers seperately or using the ones that come with Kies?
Im also on legit W8 x64. No problems for me. I dont even have Kies. Lol

I also use 64x Win8, everything's fine. Try different drivers, maybe those from the S3 All In One Toolkit
Similar problem here, using a HP Elite book with Windows 8 (My Win7 machines and 10.7 Mac have no issues)
I am in the process of trying some drivers to see if they solve this problem.
Search for galaxy s3 toolkit andbinstall the drivers in that package they deffiniyely! My main build machine is runninh win8.1

Here's a list of things i've tried

diffrent usb cable
i would like to be able to do it on my main computer but its not working if someone could help that would be great
also please dont hate on me for having windows 8 jk i dont care :good:
I'd have to say that your drivers are all scrambled. Look up "android SDK" here on xda and install that for a bigger variety of drivers. Or just download Google's USB driver and manually install it through device manager which always works for me. Windows 8 is new and very complicated.

Android SDK is installed in the main drive right? local disk c?
You have to click the folder (usb_driver) and then click update.
In the android sdk folder there should be and exe file called SDK manager. There you will be able to download all the drivers for your current android version also the latest Google drivers and SDK tools etc.
I was stuck on this process for a long time because it allways works different for everybody. Just keep me posted on what you do I'm more than glad to help.

So what exactly happens when you click update? What does it say?
Is your PC up to date? (update wise)
Do you have the the drivers for the phone itself like samsung drivers?
And did you try rebooting your PC after installing your drivers? <-- that is important. You should always reboot after install or uninstalling drivers otherwise you'll end up scrambling them.
From the pictures it shows you have the drivers but I'd also try going deeper than usb_driver, try clicking on i386 or amd64.

OK make sure there are no HTC drivers on your PC. When you hook up your phone does USB storage work or anything like that?
Check those out and then I want you to go to Google, download pdanet latest version via pc (dont install yet) and go to the play store and install on your phone turn on USB debugging and the install non market apps and hook your phone up to the computer. Then install pdanet via PC and see if that works. HTC drivers get in the way of Samsung's BTW.

I want you to uninstall all your Samsung drivers(not android SDK) under control panel/uninstall programs. If you see something like Samsung kies definitely uninstall it. Reboot your computer and follow this guide for windows 8:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038555
After this if it doesn't work I'd recommend pulling out your old computer for android modding lol. I'll still look up some threads for your problem. Let me know what's going on after that. Make sure when you follow that guide your phone can not be plugged in the computer. And when you plug your phone into the computer after everything is done and after you reboot your computer for the second time, USB debugging has to be off and when phone is done unplug and turn back on USB debugging and plug back in and wait for that. Adb should work.
[Edit] you can also try running your drivers in windows 7 compatibility. Sorry I couldn't help much.

I think I know what the problem is. Make sure you uninstall all the previous drivers, then have the correct drivers ready.
What you have to do is to disable driver signature enforcement.
Step 1. Go to the right bottom corner of the desktop and wait for the side menu to appear. When it's there click on the gear icon with the title "Settings".
Step 2. Now click on the entry "More PC Settings", then click on the entry "General".
Step 3"Restart now" (under "Advanced start up ") and click it.
Step 4. Now click "Troubleshoot", then "Advanced Options" and after that click "Windows Start up Settings".
Step 5. Click on "Restart" and wait, then on the next screen press F7.
You will now reboot, and try now to install the drivers (by manually selecting the folder in device manager).
I'm not sure what is the correct drivers for you.
But try this. It's still worth a shot.
