My phone thinks it's a tablet, from what I can tell. And the screen can't handle it, so it stays blank. From the second I hit the power button, the backlight turns on, and the phone boots up, but the screen is completely blank and the touchscreen is non-functional.
The first time this happened was when I let the battery drain all the way, but after pulling the battery many times, charging for a while, and booting several times, it went back to normal. This most recent time I have pulled the battery tons of times, booted up plugged in, not plugged in, and anything else I can think of. The battery is actually fully charged. But still blank screen (except for the backlight).
Androidscreencast shows a single image of a tablet interface, but I can't send any commands, mouse doesn't work, can't unlock, etc. I'm running unofficial AOKP, and tablet mode is not a feature of that ROM as far as I know. I have done a complete wipe, reformat all, fresh flash of a newer version of the ROM in between blank screens, so I don't think a bad flash or the ROM in general is the problem. Any ideas?
View attachment 1308968
Are you on a nightly build of AOKP? Where did you get your ROM download from? It looks like you have a Jelly Bean build, so I'm guessing it's not anything stable.

It's Mazda's AOKP JB rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831841 It's actually quite stable for everybody in the thread.
I'm back in business for now, just kept battery popping, waiting, charging, rebooting, and finally I got my screen back, it's back in regular phone mode. But I am now deathly afraid of rebooting, because I could lose my screen.
Thanks for the reply

That's so odd... Yeah, it seems like a good ROM. I'd probably be using it if a few more features were working. If you're interested, you might check out this CM10 ROM based on Agrabren's work. I'm using it now and it works pretty well so far:

Thanks for the tip, I may give that a try. Not sure if the ROM is the problem, or bad hardware, or what. When the screen won't come on, I can't even use the recovery or the boot loader.
Ok, sorry to bring this back to life. I'm dead again, and I've battery pulled/rebooted 50-100 times today to no avail. The touch screen actually does work, but nothing displays except through Androidscreencast, where I can see a very strange tablet interface which now has no notifications bar (it did before, see previous attached image). Can't launch any apps, and the buttons at the bottom do nothing.
So... I was trying to find a way to do a complete wipe, partition all (except SD card), and flash a new ROM all via ADB/shell commands. Is this possible? I couldn't find anything helpful on Google. As always, thanks in advance.

Do you mean randomly some time after plugging in the charger, but not the 100% notification?
Screen turns on when a charger is plugged in, and also at 100%. A custom ROM can fix the 100% notification.
randomly, comes on about 1-2 minutes after plugging in
i don't have the answer, but i think we're talking about powering the phone off then charging. it's supposed to just show a battery pic but is powering back on. it might be the kernel you're using. that's what people said it was when i tried Sprint's version. mine didn't power back on with this model, but i haven't tried it lately.
using Zedomax stock kernal, phone is off ,plug in to charge normall battery pic will appear after a minute or so it will boot up on it's own
Ghost in the Shell...
Can't help but sure sounds strange... Have you tried to reflash and see if the problem persists?

reflashed still there

Make sure that the rom you are using is one which is designed for the SGS i777 phone.
It might even be a good idea to re-download the rom just incase the first download
some how got corrupted during downloading.
Do a clean fresh "wipe data/factory reset" and re-flash the rom but don't flash any custom
kernels and don't install any apps at all until you have had enough time to see if the
problem still persists.
Flashing roms like any of the i9100 rom or any other rom which was not
intended for our phones can cause unexpected and random issues.
Good Luck!
I have the same problem. I turned off the phone to charge up, a min later, the phone automatically turns on by itself. I rooted it with Zedomax kernel (SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel) before. Could this be the cause? Any other users have the same problem?

Not true. There are minor differences between i777 ROMs and GT9100 ROMs. The main differences are the radio, kernel, and button mapping; which have all been fixed with Hellraiser and HapticFix.

My phone does the same thing. I don't consider it to be a problem because my phone is rarely ever turned off. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If it bothers you enough, you could always do a warranty exchange. Personally, I'd rather live with a minor annoyance, than have AT&T send me a refurbished replacement.

You can try out nomoarpowah app. It replaces the battery charging 'off' screen with one that has reboot controls and shows the time.
It might be able to stop the phone from booting itself. Not to mention it's really cool and will only work on Samsung phones.

Try Entrophy's kernel to see if it does the same. Screen off charging is controlled by the kernel from what I'm told. When I was running MIUI it use to do that until they added the function in the kernel.
EDIT:
I just decided to try it since I never charge that way....lol and mine did it as well.
ah well.... I think this may be an issue.

Well if it's any consolation my phone is doing it too. I guess I never left it off long enough. Starts right up after a minute or so.
But once this issue gets figured out I'm sure you'll really like the app. It's good to turn off the phone every once and awhile. And with it you can set it to boot the phone when it's done charging or at a specific time.

I'm also having this problem. Is it hardware? I have the latest unnamed rom. Phone won't stay off no matter what...I've tried pulling the battery and everything.
I don't have this issue on miui if it helps...
IIRC, I also didn't have the issue with UnNamed, but its been a while since I ran that.

i am having the same issue, using a zedomax kernel, if anyone has a solution i would like to hear it, i like to be able to shut the phone off when charging it some times, it seems to charge faster when its off
This is a known issue with my kernel's 11/23 release, and ONLY that release for my kernel, it was a result of adding support for the Interactive governor.
I have no clue what the results might be for Zedo's kernel - he released one kernel, lots of people had problems with it, then he disappeared. He probably enabled Interactive governor too.
It could also affect CM7, I know for a while CM7 builds had issues with not supporting LPM at all - CM7 devices would go to the bootanimation and stay there.
I've had my GS2 since launch and had Litening Rom pretty much weeks after that.
I've not flashed anything in the last 4/5 weeks but I keep getting the following problems
1. Black screen when waking phone up, soft keys light up and vibrate, so the phone is on but the screen is black. This is my main problem! Sometimes the status bar will show and is draggable but the rest of the screen is black. Sometimes the phone wont turn on and is quite hot. If I restart the phone I can do what I like but soon as I leave it for a few mins I cant get back on. It's also produced a black screen when the screen is on just by me touching the screen.
Its not overclocked it running stock voltages, I unistalled Go launcher and various other apps, I've restored it to a month old back up which I've used before with no problems, this gave me lots of FC's which I sorted but the black screen problem and not being able to get the phone back on without restarting is still present... I've tried re-flasing Litening Rom, I've tried a different kernel and I've wipe all data/factory reset etc etc...
Can anyone help?
Your best bet is to go completely back to a stock ROM ensuring everything really is wiped/factory reset, don't restore anything at all and see if you still have problems. If you're unable/unwilling to do that, you're probably best posting in the Lite'ning thread.
Is all support gone from Litening Rom thread? It think you can get more help over there.
I was too slow.
I don't think it's the rom. It's been stable at 6.1 for months.

Fantastic. Well I wish you good luck troubleshooting then.
I'm not ignoring your advice, I will try restoring the stock rom.
how many apps installed? I have this kind of black screen problem since 2.3.5. It is caused by having more than 300+ apps.
Never had that many, did a full wipe so I only have stock apps at the minute.
How stable is the cm10 18/04 ? I flashed the one before it and it would gave black screens and it would not let me download any music or documents from internet.
Try Chris's CM10 0.05.3, I've been using it for a few days now with no reboots or SODs.

I,average about two to three BSODs every other day. When they occur they seem to cluster, so I get a few, stops happening, and everything runs smooth for the next few days. Other than that, this rom has been smooth as silk and stable as can be.

Taking the plunge with the sgt7 cm10 2012-10-08 ROM
I just finished installing the 2012-10-08 ROM, and wanted to report my experience so far.
My Nook Tablet was already rooted and running CM7. I have been waiting to make the move to JB once the stability of the various ROMs seemed to be improving, and the recent work seemed promising. Thus, I decided to dive on in.
Here are the steps I took:
1. Downloaded 08/10 ROM, JB gApps, and CWM as referenced in the OP. Moved them over to my SD card.
2. From Rom Manager on the NT, I booted into recovery and flashed the new CWM. Rebooted the tablet.
3. Booted back into recovery again, did a factory reset (format data/ and cache/), then formatted Dalvik cache as well.
4. Flashed the 08/10 ROM.
5. Flashed JB gapps.
6. Rebooted the tablet.
After a short while, the OS booted up. I connected to my local WiFi, and then I configured the tablet with my Google account info, installed necessary apps, etc.
Everything seemed to work very well until the screen automatically turned off after the tablet stood idle for a while. Pressing the N button or power button did not turn the screen back on. I assume that this is the dreaded "Sleep of Death" (SOD) I have heard so much about.
I held down the power button for 10 seconds or so, released it, then held the power button down until the tablet rebooted. I thought that maybe turning WiFi off before it slept might help, so I experimented a bit, and it did seem to work.
I'm home now, and the battery life of the ROM seems very nice so far. I am playing around again with WiFi left on before it sleeps, to see if I can reproduce the same problem, but so far it is waking back up and working just fine.
All in all, it is a very impressive ROM, and I am glad (so far) that I decided to take the plunge!
Bug with 4/10 version
hi,
i also want to report few bugs with version 4/10: before i went to bed, and charged my NT 16G. from the screen, it confirmed that the charging started. but next morning when i checked again, the battery is still at the same level.
this means that it doesnt really charge, even it said the charging was under-way.
i can confirm that the charge cable was properly connected to my NT, so this is a software bug i think.
Besides, it seems i have the SOD problems sometimes. i tried to reboot, but the power button didnt seem to work. finally, i removed the microSD card, and it seemed to help to reboot my NT. another problem???
thanks.
I think I have to revise my endorsement. The 4/10 rom without enhancements is a buttery smooth, very reliable, daily driver. BSODs are rare, wifi dropping rarely happens. The enhancement pack and the 8/10 rom do fix the wifi dropping and imprive battery performance. Unfortunately they also seem to break a fairn number of apps, including com2us, scrabble, and words with friends I also experienced video freezing. on youtube and netflix. Also memory use seemed higher and I had to frequently (4 or 5 x per day) run fix.permissions to prevent force.closings.on apps . That ended up being a deal breaker, I ended up reverting back to the 4/10, the enhancements ended up causing more headaches then they fixed.
Still, the 4/10 is easily the most stable, functional rom currently running on the tablet. Huge thanks to everyone.who worked on this.
Just a quick update on the 2012-10-08 ROM. Last night, I picked up my NT after having it sit for a couple hours, and pressed the "N" button to wake it back up. The screen turned on, and I briefly saw a notification message scroll up top that said something along the lines of, "SD card unexpectedly removed", and then the tablet rebooted.
I saw that someone else had a similar issue on the DEV thread, and just wanted to confirm that I, too, seem to be having the same problem.

I've found that manually disabling Wifi before sleeping prevents the sdcard issue. The I have no idea why they seem related but it works here on 04/10 that way.

Running Sho3. Was running fine, then yesterday started noticing screen time out wasn't working (set to 30 seconds like always). The screen still dims like when your not touching it for a couple seconds, but then it stays like that. Tried reflashing, wiping etc. I pulled the battery and that worked, but then just noticed I got a text and it stayed on, checked the browser and same thing, won't time out (but still dims).
I'm stumped... and this is annoying as I gotta keep manually doing it which I don't since not used to that all these years lol, so battery keeps draining faster.

Tried a reflash with a new download, worked perfect yesterday. Then this morning it was still working, got a text, and now screen time out doesn't work again (doubt it's text related as a I got a ton yesterday and had no probs).
Flashed AJs kernel to see if there was a difference but screen time out still doesn't work. I've searched and searched on XDA and no clue what the issue could be, the only threads about this are the normal fixes that are common sense (uncheck something etc).
this sucks lol

This is not a rom issue. Best guess, from a distance of course, is that some installed app is at fault. Have you flashed back to stock to verify that the problem goes away? You would need to wipe and install stock without any additional apps to be sure.
If it works normally on stock, then go back and wipe data/factory reset and install Sho3 without reinstalling anything, and see if you have the problem. That will tell you if it's an app.
Also you can turn off the screen turn on when you get a text option in messaging. May help.

Yeh I had tried that and it seemed fine (then again Sho3 runs fine and then out of nowhere like a day or two later the screen won't time out), but the odd thing is all the apps I have are the apps I normally use. Checking wakelocks etc, everything seems a-ok, nothing unusual. I've always ran Sho's roms. Haven't downloaded any new app's, only 1 in the last month (Scramble), had installed that to re-check but the issue still happened, don't run widgets either.
I've did find a few threads as well as searching online about people having similar problems and looks like nobody could figure this out as a fix was never given. Seems to be all JB users though reporting this, especially with GSIII where even turning off stay awake etc doesn't help, some said they just had to keep rebooting the phones or hard reset removing the battery but that's only temporary fix.

OK wtf LOL... I always actually keep that off as it's useless to me. But I just checked and it was on, but I know I had it off with Jeboo, AJs must have turned it back on?
This looks to of fixed the problem, I don't know why since this is a text setting, but I could of been in the browser, email, game, music, even the lock screen and it would stay on.... no clue how that option in text affects everything???
I'll update if any changes but as of now turned it off and screen timed out when I opened the browser and left as is.
thanks!
Np man, glad you got it fixed

I flashed a kernel that was apparently non compatible with aosp so actually it would never do anything and the fact that my phone was not able to turn on after force shut down is completely ridiculous and I'm afraid now it might happen again if system gets frozen or something; I might need to remove the screen again...
Heyyo, weird turn of events indeed hmm... So you were trying to flash AOSP from Google with a LeEco kernel on top? I'm unsure if that would work since it would require vendor blobs and device tree for the Le Max 2 to be properly compatible.
I'd recommend for custom ROMs to check out the ones currently available and stable Nougat. You can try the experimental Oreo builds but they aren't what I would call stable for regular use.
OmniROM would definitely be the stable Nougat ROM I'd recommend first. It's definitely stability above all else and is a great first way to get your feet wet or stick with for custom ROMs.
There's other ROMs you can try such as SlimRoms if you want more recent tweaks and they have been coming along quite nicely. SlimRoms is more of a balance between performance, battery and stability.
If you want optimization over stability there is BlackX as another example.

Heyyo(?) Why omni? If I say Omni vs DU, what will be your pick? And which one will give better battery?

Heyyo!
Hmm that's a tough one since both share a lot of code but andr86rus would probably know best since they are his ROMs so DU might have a slight edge over OmniROM.
I switched on my letv and it said file manager stopped I couldn't do anything so I switched it off and it wouldn't come on again
