Is anyone else experienceing worse browser and chrome surfing experences after the newest ICS update? I was under the impression that the buggs with the waiting dialog boxes and random crashes have gotten worse... Also i know chrome is a beta but its performace has also been worse since the update... I starting to wish i would have held off and waited for a more refined experience...
Anyone else having these issues? Or found a fix? I tried a search and followed a couple guieds about the gpu issue to no avail..
This is not a pitch for the browser I use because I think it is great (or maybe it is...)
I've used Dolphin browser HD and it only gets faster and faster. I'm running on .14 virtuous rom but it was fast even with stock.
I'd suggest you try that browser
yeah.. same here.. notice this more and more each day. some sites better then others. just thought is was maybe a html thing.
I never had browser issues before the update and now it closes all the time. Lags too. I'm just using stock but am going to try dolphin to see if it's any better.
I didnt use the pad for long on honeycomb but the lag is noticible.
as a matter of fact, the first comment i got from a friend who had a playabout on my prime (already on stock ics .14) was that the browser was laggy!
I also noticed that download bars keep flickering throughout the download! (esp apparent when downloading large files)
I just delete my browser's data ad cache from the Apps Menu and it definitely smoothed out a lot of browser issues I have been having since the ICS rollout. I have been using the browser over an hour now and haven't gotten a single "wait/close" error. Pages are also loading smoother.
Feels like over the last month my cm9 has become much slower, especially when loading web pages. Applies in all browsers, but also some apps.
Dolphjn browser has also become buggy and annoyjng.
Does cm9 store some system cache/temp files i should clear? (i dont mean thecache in eachbrowser)
Thx all!
Maybe give cache cleaner ng a try?

Why don't you try flashing one of the more recent nighties? And why don't you use chrome?

chrome
found chrome to be a bit buggy, havent found my ideal browser.
mostly been using dolphin, though it tends to load web pages as blank and i have to press reload
stock browser tends to randomly close
chrome drives me nuts as i cant get tabs to close!!
opera seemed weird
maxthon took to long
will try cache cleaner apps! thx, never thought of looking for one
I had that aswell....was using cherrykang for a month or so and it just started slowing down and giving me wifi problems. On top of that if the tablet went to sleep sometimes it wouldn't wake up until i reset it.
Finally i gave up and flashed classicnerd
not having any issues here with my firefox browsing on the latest CM9 nightly.
maybe it's the internet connection?
will try firefox
connection is ok, the whole tablet slows right down, you can see it drawing the various sections of a webpage.
My touchpad has definitely slowed down lately. Both quadrant and Antutu benchmark have dropped considerably. I run the unofficial nightlies, and have the CPU set to 1.7 max, 384 min
I've noticed a very slight improvement the last couple of days.
My thought on this is that it's something I've installed. Too lazy to search it out.......
Edit : ICS Browser+ works great for me.
I guess I haven't noticed the slowdown. I use the unofficial nightlies and i think my TP has been running better than ever. I use Chrome as my browser and haven't had any problems.
What kind of issues do you get with chrome?
Also does anyone know of any Web browser benchmarks for mobile devices? I know certain companies claim their browser loads pages x% faster than others browsers. Just curious more than anything.

Ever since Honeycomb, the absolute biggest problem I've had with this tablet is the browser. It doesn't freaking stay open. No matter what browser I use, no matter if I'm running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean, the browser always crashes. And it's not a typical FC either; It just closes right back to Launcher.
I've been hearing that it's caused by some null pointer exception in JavaScript; But you mean to tell me between Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 - 4.0.4 and 4.1, 4.1.1, that this issue STILL isn't resolved? Not to mention, it only happens on tablets (Tegra 2 issue? Xoom has the same issue).
For me, it most notably happens when I'm browsing a Twitter page. In the past minute alone, I've had browser crash on my SIX times trying to load a page on Twitter. Let's make that 7 now.
So what the hell really causes this, and why won't it go away? My Sensation and myTouch 4G can browse just fine, and this temporary Galaxy S III works perfectly too, so what's with the tablet?
EDIT: Disabled JavaScript and set plugins to ondemand. Same damn result.
I've used the stock browser, Dolphin, Chrome, and Skyfire and none of them have ever crashed on me. Ever. Sounds like there is either something defective about your device perhaps your internet connection. A factory reset might help, as might going into applications, finding the Google framework and clearing data. Do the same for your browsers as well.
That's funny, I've noticed just the same thing. Browsers work terribly on this tablet.
With me, they only do crash sometimes – a lot more than on my HTC phone, though. But using browsers is a real pain, as they all feel kinda buggy, and I don't think it's their fault, since they all show the same "bugs". They're all kinda laggy. I've updated to ICS today and I was crying in emotion for being able to finally download Chrome, as it's the most stable one I've ever used in my phone, but I was disappointed when I noticed it too felt quite laggy. I'd rather go home and turn my Mac on than to struggle with web browsing on this tablet, honestly. I've tried many browsers –*stock, Dolphin, Boat, that other one with green icon, and also Skyfire or something.
If anyone has a better thing, or a solution, or anything, I bet there are many desperate people that would die to hear it.
(I know I sound more dramatic than I should, but let's face it, web browsing sucks in this device.)
I've never had any problem web browsing on my Tab. None. I'm not rooted, maybe that's why, or maybe it has to do with the sites you visit. Dunno.
On my tab with HC 3.2, the stock browser would also just disappear to the home screen, but not all that often.
I flashed to ICS, and the stock browser got a bit quirky. The address bar would no longer hide when I scrolled down
on a web page. Would stutter as if it was trying to hide but wouldn't.
Installed Dolphin and it worked fine.
I went back to HC 3.2 (had some other issues besides the browser) and so far the stock browser is working fine.

Dolphin does the same thing though, just a lot less frequently. Motorola Xoom users in a thread from a year ago reported this same problem (in a filled up 14 page thread), and several of users report the same exact issue. I'm gonna poll some more Tegra 2 sections and see if they suffer from the same thing but it looks like this is just another issue with this ****ty SoC, like the portrait mode lag.

Not to sound rude but your opinion isn't really credible to me, you're the same one who went crazy when I said this tablet sucked. You have bias written all over you.

Come on dude, I'd have to be rooted to be running Jellybean. And as everyone else has shown, it does seem to vary by website. Full pages on twitter ALWAYS crash, (they work once in a blue moon). Other times browser crashes when browser feels like it hasn't crashed in a while. I could get through a day perfectly, then bam, crash.
I'm not a dude.
I've never had a problem with any of the browsers I've tried, I think maybe you have a faulty tablet.
I to have the same problems. The browser would even close and reopen with no webpages there.

Yes Google.ca. The browser just shut down without a force close notice and opens blank. Plus it becomes non responsive, on pages that have a lot of javascript.

That specifically happens the second time. On the first crash, I'd relaunch and it would reload my pages, but 99/100 times it would crash seconds afterward. Upon opening it again, i get one tab with the Google homepage.

Sounds like JavaScript is the culprit, but it still crashed for me even after I disabled JavaScript
I think it's all about memory management, I cant tell about HC 'cause I barely used it, but JB is still very experimental.

I'm biased because I've never had any problems with my browser crashing? Whatever. I also never "went crazy" over anything. All you do is complain and complain. Why not just get an iPad and move on?
I have tried several browsers also, and for me I really only have problems with chrome freezing (not force closing). It seems to be random, but happens more frequently when opening new tabs. However, the stock browser on the same sites seems to work every time. My guess is that it may be due to timeouts on the network connection or possibly memory related. And, it seems to be random... I may go a day without a freeze, then have two back to back freezes. Oh tegra2, why don't you behave?
Hey guys,
It's been almost a week since I flashed the stock ICS and installed Chrome. So far so good, no complaints. I'm really relieved, as I was almost giving up. Give it a try

Chrome is the way to go. The ability to create an account and sync all relevant browser data to your devices via the cloud - why hasn't anyone thought of this before? So obvious and useful.
I also strongly recommend trying out Boat Browser, which is highly underrated. Smoother and smarter layout than Dolphin and the best alternative to Chrome, IMO.

Chrome acts really weird on JB. I'm still running pershoot's 8/4 build but I'll be updating and trying out Chrome again. Last time I tried it I would always get a white page while switching tabs, and scrolling was odd. Browser does a much better job but Chrome has too much nice functionality lol

I doubt it's memory relate, it happens a lot with 1 tab open, and with a full Gig of RAM, browsing should be painless when it comes to memory management, not to mention, but Android's memory management scheme is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Tabs and apps actually know how to stay open, and Android knows what to close. Works a lot better than any tablet I've used, even better than crapple's iPad.
If you have not tried the Boat Browser then you are missing out on a great experience.
Not only does this browser support Flash, but it also includes a really good password manager, bookmarks speed dialer and full screen mode.
If you want a Windows browser experience on Android then this browser provides it.
I've used Boat extensively and while it's pretty damn good it really can't hold a candle to Ocean Browser as far as rendering speed and scrolling speed. Ocean is essentially the AOSP browser, but unlike AOSP, it can be found on the Play Store and you don't have to be rooted to run it.

I tried the Ocean browser and it is fast. However it crashes when you try to play video on full screen and it keeps losing the Desktop mode. It also lacks a Password manager and Speed dialer, which is probably why it is fast, because it is not a fully featured browser.
I have the Ocean browser as a backup, but so far the Boat browser copes with everything.
I particularly like the password manager which fills-in my login details and the speed dialer where I keep all my bookmarks rather than use the tablet home screen.
I personally like AOSP and Chrome (Chrome on stock ROM, AOSP on anything else). I rely on Google Sync, and I just like having "stock" browsers I guess (Chrome is stock on stock; AOSP is (usually) stock on anything else).
Haven't really had any want to use a 3rd-party browser yet. Even on stock Chrome hasn't disappointed me (I hear horror stories of crashes and slowness from others, but I can't recall me having any crashes, and performance is very acceptable, for what I view anyway).
My mom's Galaxy Prevail has Boat Browser on it though (default by ROM creator). Works alright I suppose (or at least I haven't found a need to switch to anything else ).
Hi all,
I did a forum search and somehow didn't come up with anything, so here goes...
Has anyone else been experiencing ridiculously slow browsing in all browsers, even on WiFi? I've tried:
1) stock browser - fastest in my experience, but still a dog;
2) Chrome - dreadfully slow;
3) Puffin - slightly slower than stock;
4) Dolphin - slow, and dislike the UI/UE;
5) Firefox - again, slightly slower than stock browser.
With all browsers, my cold load speeds are somewhere in the 25 to 45 second range (sometimes they don't even load due to browser crashes; which has happened at least once with all of them), and hot loads are never below 15 seconds, even on fast & strong WiFi connections. I am running stock rooted, 4.1.2, RAZR XT912. Otherwise phone is quite speedy and stable (all window animations turned off, and ROM debloated).
Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated... What you did to fix/minimize it, etc. Will be interesting to see if this issue is specific to my handset.
Many thanks in advance to all!

stock and firefox seem to work better for me. chrome is slow ,but seems more snappy on 4.4.
For me Chrome is sucky-slow. Stock is better speedwise. Been awhile since I've tried other browsers.
How about non-browser software? Slowly too?

Most other software runs quite smoothly and responsively. The primary exceptions would be Google Play and Maps. So now that I'm thinking about it, possibly a hardware issue?
