It affects the performance this much |_| ...you decide.
Your card might be a class whatever. The output of:
/sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
and
/sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:16/read_ahead_kb
affect the read ahead performance however. The card by itself is a load of old ****.
Ignore the people who have bought themselves a big waste of money.
Huge difference. Stupid serial access synthetic benchmarks as detailed above are of no relevance. Of course faster access medium is better. Like the difference between an HD and an ssd. Anyone saying otherwise has no idea what they are talking about.

Balls.
Proof of any measurable positive impact on an SIII from such a card? Not waffle... proof.
Good luck with that. I have a 32Gb Class 10... no difference whatsoever from a poxy class 2 2Gb card.

Don't be ridiculous. Why not go on and argue that a 2mhz processor is just as good as a 1.4ghz quad core one? Simple logic and a very minor understanding of science will confirm it.
I edited my post as you were posting...
Where is your proof though
I'm not holding my breath though.

Rubbish. Of course a class 2 card is slower than a class 10. Proof? Look at any benchmark or try it yourself. Your argument is akin to arguing that a car with a top speed of 100mph and 0 to 60 of 20 seconds is just as fast as one with a top speed of 200mph and a 0 to 60 of 5 seconds. Get a grip. God there are some muppets on this forum....
It was to my understanding that a class 2 means that it will at least write at 2MB/s. It is by all means not limited to 2MB/s. Am I wrong?

The card doesn't control the read-write rate. The ROM does.
You are correct though. Example: A Lamborghini will do, let's say 180 mph... but the driver may never go above 50.
EDIT: I'm looking forward to seeing Dr Pepper's stats and data though.

Anything above class 4 is a waste of money for me. (class 4 is sufficient for HD recording.)
So in between this argument what do u guys think what should i do should i go for class 2 card or a class 10 ????????
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It doesnt affect the performance because all if the phones data is stored in its internal Card which is much faster than any external card

See.. Cards performance will only be affected if you store game Data on the extsdcard.. Even then class 4 would be good enough.. If you don't want to buy class 10 buy a class 4 sdcard.. You won't notice any major speed differences

If you're recording hd video onto your card then you'll be better off with a class 10. Other than that, it won't affect the performance of your phone at all if you get a slower card.

And tranfer files from sdcard to microsd.

I've had lags+stutters while recording video at 1080 and superfine quality directly to my class 6 SD card. Those videos were quite long (10-15 min).
Changing storage location to phone memory removes all the lags. I'm planning to change mine to class 10 soon.
Other than this, I don't see any real performance issue with lower class sd card; at least for me anyway.

Read up on the cards. Most people think class 10 is the best but class 4 is faster at random read and write speeds.

10 is better for transferring large files. 4 is better for music, pictures, Apps, etc

I have that card. I've had to return it once since it just magically died one day in my OG Evo. Probably didn't help that I flashed ROMs daily. If you have problems with the card, Wintec will take several weeks to send you a new one. Definitely good for large file transfers as mentioned above.

I also have this card and have had it corrupt once. I reformatted it and it is fine. The write speeds are always right around 10 MB/s. And the read speeds sit at about 18-20 Mb/s. So if u backup you card regularly and don't mind possibly having to reformat it then go for it.
I've Went through two they suck the rep said anything higher than a class 4 would keep crapping out on android phones its on the website same with kingston

i had that card in my OG Evo and aside from an occasional reformat, it worked pretty good. I put it in my 3VO and BOOOOM... it died and wouldn't recover... I say for the 3VO, use at your own risk.
I need one exactly for theses reasons like music, photos and apps. So I guess a class 4 is better.

I've had two of them, one in EVO, one in EVO shift, and their 32gb class 10 is in my 3d. No issues ever. 32gb gives maybe 15mbs write and closer to 25-30 read.

I've had that same card for over 6 months now and no problems whatsoever. I use it in my Asus Transformer for extra storage now, but used it in my OG Evo for a while and in my NS4G. Like I said never a problem for me. I do remember the thread on the OG evo board and a lot of folks did have problems though.

I take hundreds of photos and videos with my phone. Now that I've got more storage space in my drop box and turned on Camera Upload, I can clear out old media from my micro sd for new ones to take and the old ones would still be saved to my drop box.
What kind of micro sd (size and class#) would be best for this kind of use?

First of all, this threads needs more info abiut what you prefer.
Budget? You prefer speed over memory? Your phone etc.
Anyways.. i would recommend you go for a class 10 sd card .. size of which depends on you. You are a better judge for how much memory you require.

Sandisk 32GB class 10 microSDHC. $23.99 from Amazon. I think the price has gone up slightly to $30, but that's still a great price for a regular price $100 card. They also have 64GB class 10 microSDHC cards as well although I can't recall the price.

How do you tell card class? What is the class of card that came with the Thunderbolt 32 gigabytes?
They usually have the class printed on them. Classes are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and UHS1 (SDXC). Most cards that come with phones are class 2 or 4. The number is usually printed in a circle.

The class refers to the minimum sustained read/write speed the card is capable of. So a class 2 card can handle 2 MB/sec or higher read and write, Class 4 is 4 MB/sec, and so on. You could get a class 2 card that is capable of class 10 speeds, but there are no guarantees of it. The faster speeds will be good when something is reading/writing data to/from the SD card, think Gallery and Camera being the two big ones. It would be able to load pictures faster for gallery, and save the faster when taking them with the camera.
If it isn't printed on the card, move files to and from with windows and note you're Transfer speeds

Hi guys
I wish to know how much a fake microSD can influence
general System Speed on android devices like our L9.
I've a class 6 microSD 16gb card and i think is fake at 80% because taken it from ebay.
Can you suggest a tool (for windows) to show real class and speed of a card?
THANK YOU SO MUCH! :good::good:
PS
can you post me write/Read result on Antutu?

Try this.
It's not for Windows but an app for the phone itself. I think you'd be better off benchmarking it in the phone anyway since that's where you'll be using it. Good luck.

Just Google your self: Class 6 means 6MB/s or more. The picture you attached gives 20MB/s reading and 6MB/s writing, which means it is not a fake.

Are you overclocked? Your memory speed is way faster than mine.
Wow the price of these things are dropping quick. I'm quite happy with my 64GB at the moment, but if you haven't got an SD Card yet, you can't go far wrong with this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IIJ6W4S/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1ZDU17XPVG7AC&coliid=I3SM1TXE7RYBSL

Great but please note that you are not able to put anything on the SD without the root process. You can use only default transfer option in menu (videos, photos and music).

Good question. i do have one, but recording is set to internal memory.
As a 50second 4k video is around 380mb in size, 7.6MB/sec are easily reached by that card.
