It's pretty easy but a guide never hurts!
The first way is to download apks straight from the internet. Credit to yaggermr for finding this first. Thread Here
1. Find your apk. Heres some to get you started
Go Launcher
Amazon appstore! You need to enter your email and they will email you a link.
2. In your notification area, when the download is completed click on it to open it. A popup will appear click the second option package installer. Now click on install. and you are done!
3. To find your apps click the nook button then click search and start typing in the app you want.
The second way is to use ES file explorer I was able to install apk's I had on my SD card through ES.
GO Launcher
**** started new thread ****
I have a rooted NT and GO Launcher v2.65 running with little to no problem except that everytime I reboot any widgets I have added report back:
"Problem loading widget"
None of the apps are loaded on the SD-Card. I've tried a clean install with a reroot with nothing done except Go Launcher and a gapp or two to test the widgets but still get the error. Am I the only one?
On a side note after I rooted I didn't have to search for the Go app link anymore it just accepts the default setting.
Thanks in advance.

This is a Go Launcher error, the program's data has become corrupted. Clear the program cache and then go to the Go Launcher settings and restart the program.
After flashing regular MiniCM9 there are only left ~11 MB in the System ROM internal memory, so I wanted to free up some space. Other thing that I had in mind is that android is running many background apps that I don't use. And by removing them, there is also freeing up some RAM.
Before starting anything make CWM backup.
You can use one of the 3 methods to remove unwanted apps:
a) in windows, you can open downloaded MiniCM9-3.0.XXX.zip with WinRar or 7zip and remove unwanted apps in system/app folder. After that move modified MiniCM9-3.0.XXX.zip to sdcard and flash via CWM,
b) using a Titanium Backup app and delete them there, OR
c) use Root Explorer app and navigate to system/app and remove unwanted apps.
I always delete following apps that I don't use. Browse the list, and delete ones that suits you:
ApplicationsProvider.apk - Provides the list of installed apps to Play. Fetches the list of applications installed on the phone to provide search suggestions.
Browser.apk - There are better alternatives such as Opera or Boat Browser
CMUpdateNotify.apk - I am really often on xda and checking nAa's updates, so i don't need update notifications on my phone. i always delete this to save extra 2,3 MB of RAM (sorry nAa )
DSPManager.apk - As stated multiple times across forums, it often drains battery, runs in background, using 3-5 MB, and i can't really see any difference in playing music with/without it. There are better fixes for audio. Search for paul-xxx audio fix for ics.
Email.apk - i dont use pop mail accounts so i always delete this. But if you are using pop mail, there are better alternatives like K-9.
Exchange.apk - Email transport system. If you dont use email.apk it is safe to remove this.
FileManager.apk - I use RootExplorer as alternative.
Galaxy4.apk - This is one of ICS Live wallpapers, and i really doubt that anyone is using them on our phones, remove this!
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk - Another one!
LatinIME.apk - On screen keyboard. You can remove this if you don't use qwerty software keyboard. I found it bit difficult to use it on our small screens, so feel free do delete it if you don't use it.
LiveWallpapers.apk - This really don't need further explanations..
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk - same here...
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk - again...
NoiseField.apk - this is a bubble Live Wallpaper.
PhaseBeam.apk - again live wallpaper
PicoTts.apk - Text To Speech, remove it if you don't use it.
QuickSearchBox.apk - Google Search Box that can be placed in homescreens, i really don't use this.
SpeechRecorder.apk
Stk.apk - SIM Tool Kit
Trebuchet.apk - Pretty slow and bloated launcher. If you really want ICS look, use Apex Launcher Instead. But if you want fastest performance and lowest memory usage i recommend LauncherPro which is by far smoothest and fastest launcher out there. Too bad it is bit outdated.
UserDictionaryProvider.apk - Dictionary for word prediction on keyboards. Needeed for LatinIME.apk. Do not remove this if you are using software qwerty keyboard (LatinIme.apk)
VoiceDialer.apk - I don't use this.
VpnDialogs.apk - I don't use vpn
SoundRecorder.apk
There are more apps that can be safely removed, this is just my standard 'setup'. At start, rom was ~108 MB in size, and after removing this apps got to 93 MB.
Eventually I will update this post, with Gapps removable applications and their descriptions.
Feel free to post your feedback.
Thank you!
thanks mate. i must add about dps manager is that it is used by apollo to tune the music.but hell i dont use it in anyway so i deleted it as well.
you forgot to add geniewidget
Some of the optional removes (depends on user). I dont use and I always delete them.
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk and the one associated with syncing your browser (i think ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk) if you dont use account sync option. I always backup my data locally and hence I always remove these. BTW these also run in the background always
Market Updater (you may not be able to update market app automatically. For me thats OK)
My Uploads (always runs in background)
downloads.apk
Calculator.apk if you use a different calculator.
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
talk.apk
Most of these apps are from gapps and most of them always run in background
I also remove default android keyboard as I always use swype

that shouldn't be related to any of this apk-s removed. i have removed listed ones, and much more, and i'm not having this problem.
first try to clear market data, and if that doesn't help, try flashing gapps again, and if that fails too, try flashing original minicm9 again (your data will be saved)
Thanks! I deleted a lot of things, but I can't delete DSP Manager! I deleted it before, but today I installed the "notification bar fix" to ICS and it reinstalled DSP and some other applications alone...

what "notification bar fix" are you referring to?
if it flashes those unwanted .apk-s you can again delete them from system/app with root explorer.
Google Feedback.apk can be deleted too
CM9 byNaA/XDA Premium
Use Link2SD
The best way to safely remove system applications is to use Link2SD.
I've been using that since a year; never had a problem. You can batch uninstall, move to SD card, clear cache, freeze, sort, etc.
One of the best apps available on Play Store and its free!

I'm using MiniCM9 and I uninstalled DSP Manager successfully once, but I had to use the "Make It Faster" by roobeyn because the phone hangs sometimes and that helps. Unfortunately that fix make your notification bar disappear and you have to use the "StatusbarOriginalFix". After all, it installed DSP again and I can't uninstall!
I tried with root uninstaller, SManager ads and with File Manager. The Only option I have is to "force close".
Sorry for my bad english.
I recommend install the TouchPal after erase the keyboard

hm, did you actually read my first post? have you tried deleting it with root explorer?
and second thing - "Make It Faster" by roobeyn is made for MiniCM9 - 3.0.1.
Ok in this post I will be telling you what they are about the downloads will be in second post so if you dont fell like reading the go-ahead so let's get to business
TO PUT THE APPS IN YOU HAVE TO USE 7ZIP OR WINRAR YOU CAN NOT USE WIN EXPLORER JUST PUT THE APPS IN DATA/APP FOLDER THEN PASTE IF YOU ARE USEING DATA ZIP AND FOR SYSTEM USE SYSTEM FOLDER THEN APPS THEN PASTE THE APPS IN
The system will flash and become a system app and the only way to uninstall will be to use no bloat on the play store(if you want me to and the apk the tell me and I will)OR what ever bloat remover you have
***NOTE***
Some apps will not play nice with being a system app
now the data flashabul will install like a app from the play store and you can delete with out no bloat
I have all so add text in the updater script plz do not take out the line with ZIP MADE BY FLASHALOT just keep that in at lest because I did make it there are lines I add for you text here
DO NOT MESS WITH ANY THING OTHER THEN UI_PRINT("") OR ELES IT WOUNT WORK AND CAN MESS WITH THE MOUT POINTS AND CAUSE A BRICK
Give I like if I helped you

As far as I know, you can replace, but if you do a factory reset then, it could be that the needed home.apk isn't there, so you have to flash firmware again using flashtool, cause phone boots up and there's no home.apk (someone here had this problem!).
Wouldn't do it, you can choose which you want to have as default, why uninstalling home.apk?!
Cause it takes memory...
Thx for the advice!

Hey you can move the stock home.apk to sd card. When you don't need apex launcher anymore then copy back the home.apk to system. Thats easy

I've had re-customized many custom roms zip files for my fitting. Generally I always delete the default launcher in /system/app and replace it with HoloLauncher which is less than a megabyte. Android is smart enough to default to the third party launcher even if the default isn't present.

Yes it is, but as pointed out by mihahn, if you ever do a factory reset on the go, you'll be proper screwed unless you:
- keep home.apk somewhere (prefferably a flashable zip)
- have a computer so you can "adb push" it into system/app
Yes it happened to me once. Not anymore!
Hmmmm....no need to remove/delete default Home from system or make a flashable zip incase of something wrong....
just frozen/disable the default Home from system....when you do factory reset, default Home will enable again....
remember this method only works if you have install other Home launcher such as Apex, Holo and etc and made them as default launcher...then only then you can disable default Home Launcher...

I have a rooted HTC Droid Eris with CM7 installed. I am new to the android game a long time Windows Phone hold out. Question?? If I want to customize the CM7's launcher all I have to do is remove the ADW launcher.apk file and then copy a new launcher apk file in the \system\app folder. Then flash the ROM. If this is so, can i add any apk file I want and delete any apk file I want without having to modify anything else in the zip folder.

you will need root.
First, open root explorer.
then go to "system", "app"
put the launcher you want in there.(apk)
then find your stock launcher(its in "system "app") and move it to your sd card.
exit. you will be in the launcher you want. if your phone crash...do a factory reset...aka hard reset...
it worked for me...tell me the results...no gaurantee it will work...and i am not responsibly for any thing that happen to your phone...
make sure you do a back up before doing this...
you can use the trebuchet launcher if you want...its similar to apex...
attachment is in this post.
Hi guys
I have been trying to theme my current installed app's icons using 7zip. i know i want to do this way coz i'm on honami stock launcher which doesnt support iconpacks.... So i can change icon successfully on playstore app apk using 7zip drag n drop replace way, but then after reboot playstore wont open/force close. ( changed in data/app/com.android.vending-1.apk icon. Then i wiped dalvik cache and fixed permissions. So it opens and but it appears like previous version in UI and when i open second time it upgrades to latest version and stock icon back
But i edited the latest apk in data/app/... So any way around this... i know this is strange way of doing it and you may ask?? but i want to keep stock laucher and theme icons .... any help appreciated...
