[Q] Tasker with Locale execute plugin assistance, please - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems there is a lack of support for using tasker. If I'm wrong, someone show me a nice forum or something just for tasker that I may read in. But first, I'm hoping someone with tasker knowledge will assist me with this simple request... this should be a simple thing...
My aim:
When ran, use a tasker task to execute the WiFi for Root users tether start, and if I'm lucky, stop as well in a separate task.
What I have done:
I have locale execute plugin. I start an execute task
and in configuration I typed
Code:
/data/data/com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether/bin/tether start
as this is what is displayed when enabling tethering in the WiFi tether app itself.
The problem I need help with:
Though when ran, this exe task does nothing. What am I doing wrong? Wrong code? Wrong plugin in tasker? I want to do this not just for convenience, but also to learn.
See attached for reference.

Nudge.

You may have already figured this out, but I think you need to include and exclamation point (!) at the beginning of your execute string. That's the command I'm using, and it works for me, although it takes upward of a full minute before it actually starts the tethering. Not sure if that's due to WiFi Tether itself or if it's the execute plugin that runs so slow.
Also note, in my experience, starting the tethering this way does not affect the display of the WiFi Tether app. That is to say, the tethering could be running, but the app still has the greyed-out wifi signal and says 'Press to start tethering.' For that reason, I included a status-bar notification to my Tasker task when the tethering is active, so that I know it's running.

APPS ARE A FEW POSTS DOWN CREATED BY RYANMOGUL
I ALSO LINKED ADDINTIMER TRIAL WHICH SCHEDULES RUNTIME OF APPS
certainly there are the registry hacks to disconnect the internet
but i'm looking for a method to turn it on
i've seen the registry hack to make the internet on permanently
this isn't what i'm after
i'll tell you why i want it
voip phone...specifically PortSIP
it doesn't connect to the internet on its own
and i dont like opening the browser everytime i want to use PortSIP
thanks for any tips at all about firing up the internet easily
i'll continue to search but figured i would make this post after my first couple hours of unfruitful digging.

I got you covered, i will write you a mortscript that doesnt eat battery or nothing. I can either make it to assign a button, connect internet when pressed, disconnect when pressed. Or I can make it automatically connect when you open a certain program or game or w/e. Let me know what you want and the name of the exe you are trying to use.
Edit: Let me know the name of the exe ex: GoogleMaps.exe and also the location of the exe, not the shortcut. ex: mydevice/program files/googlemaps, mydevice/windows, storage card/program files. Etc.. Otherwise I will just make you a Connect/Disconnect mortscript to assign to a button or click to run.
nice ryan
um is there anyway just to have an .exe or something i can link to in program files to run the connection...
shutting off the connection would also be a major plus...but i wont hold it against you
if i have to settle for one prog access here is the lineup
portsip is located at: /Program Files/PortSIP/PortSIP_WM6.exe
thanks for your dedication
i will donate for this
this is the last step to achieving scheduled running of portsip to enable free incoming calls using google voice/gizmo5 during day minutes
i may have to use a different voip app in the future so if at all possible to just be a unique mortscript.exe that would be ideal...
and probably more usefull for others and whatever they might need done
(free incoming calls = paid unlimited data)
You must not know what mortscript does. I can make it any way you want. It requires skill and know how so you can only make one script per program. Thats because you have to create a shortcut to the Mortscript file and make sure the icon looks like your program (if you want it done professionally). I use shortcut manager and edit parameters.
To make it automatically connect doesnt cost the battery or any memory resources. It doesnt use any "while" commands that run at all times. Now this other way uses more battery but I can also make it so that when you launch the program it will automatically connect to the internet and the script will continue to run in the backround until you actually close the program. At that point it would disconnect from the internet and stop running the script.
Or I can make it just a shortcut in your start menu folder somewhere and you can click on it, or assign to a button.
Now if you dont care what the shortcut looks like and you just want the liberty of being able to use it for other programs thats very easy. Just open my mortscript file with notepad, or wordpad (on PC) and edit the run command matching where your exe is. then simply copy and paste it on to your ppc wherever you want in the start menu.
Just really let me know what you want, and I will get to work on it now.
if you can do anything about making sure the data connection stays active that would be nice
i'm not actually sure at this point of it times out or not
some apps close the connection when exited...
registry edit would be nice...again not 100% sure if its a concern or not...
just saw your last reply
to save complication
i will opt to just have portsip connect when started and close connection when exited

you said you already found out how to make the data connection always on?
I never asked if it times out, but it probably goes stale "times out" eventually. Plus setting your phone like that EATS mad battery.
Yes some apps do close the data connection, thats all commands in the programs .dll's. No registry edits for it, registry is not the magic answer to every workaround on PPC's. Thats why they have the program Mortscript, and its Mortscipters "me"
yea i just meant in general...not app related...
i'm not sure if the internet connection will time out at all
i'm assuming that would be in the registry
timeline wise:
portsip opens & connects 7am ::: 12noon internet disconnects from timeout
(not looking for scheduling...i'm using a program called addintimer to start/stop portsip)
Now the information you are giving is getting confusing.. You said that PortSIP doesnt automatically connect to the internet and now you are saying you use Addintimer to automatically open and run it.. You are leaving out details, like how you set up your addintimer to run it, did you have to point to a shortcut for PortSIP? Did you have to point to the EXE, I need to know these things or else you are not going to get what you want out of the deal. So you are saying addintimer opens PortSIP at 7am and connects to the internet like normal right? You just want it so during other times if you open PortSIP that it will automatically connect to the internet right? Am I on the right page now let me know. I will get started.
ok...thanks
addintimer starts or kills the process
using addintimer you assign a start or kill on a schedule to the .exe directly
hope that helps
if its easier just to create a program shortcut which enables the internet by all means
then i can just link addintimer directly to your mortscript 1 minute before portsip...etc
i think this method would be more universal for others to make use of it as well
sorry to leave the decision in you hands...
i know its easier to work with specific direction...lol
and thanks again for your attending to my needs

So what do you do right now? Just leave your data connection running before you goto sleep? Because you still arent answering if the program addintimer launches the internet also.
ok
well if you want to just post up the .exe that initiates the internet then i can just link it into addintimer
i dont know what starts the internet...hence my issue here...
right now i manually connect to the internet before using portsip by opening a browser and leaving it open
day minutes are 7am to 7pm...and so i see an extended battery purchase in my future
but my phone is plugged in most of the time anyways...so this isn't a huge deal for me
Ok gotcha, mortscript file is not an exe. Its a .mscr or .mortscript extenstion.
and the files use the app Mortscript.exe to run the commands.
I am making a cab which will install mortscript, and the Data Toggle shortcut in Start menu.
i have mort installed...however it might help others to include it
its not that i dont understand what mortscript does...
its more not knowing what initiates the data session
thanks again
well i just found this registry entry which may help with the potential stale connection issue
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}
dword: StaleCellularConnectionFixEnable
maybe setting it to 1 will insure she stays on once i get this all working

PortSIP WM6 Auto Connect Only and Auto Connect and Disconnect PATCHES
These patches are only for PortSIP WM6 version. The patches do not install PortSIP, but they overwrite the shortcut to it in programs. So if you uninstall this you lose your PortSIP shortcut which can easily be re-created through your phones file explorer.
These Patches will work perfectly with how you have your PortSIP set up and any programs you may use to launch apps at certain times or automatically "addintimer".
The Auto Connect and Disconnect "ACD" Patch will install Mortscript files to a new folder in your Start Bar/Programs called Scripts. There will be ConnectData and DisconnectData those are obvious what they do, and there will be Startscript and Endscript. That way you can set your addintimer to Startscript, then PortSIP, and then Endscript. This will save your battery life! Say you start PortSIP the while command is running, when you exit PortSIP the while command and mortscript stop. So in between uses it does not waste battery life. Thats why I have the shortcut to PortSIP set to re-launch the while command and the PortSIP.exe. Now another thing say for example when you reset the phone the While commanding mortscript in startup folder is running until you start up PortSIP and exit it. You can use the Endscript when you first boot if you are not planning on using PortSIP to save battery life.
You can just click to run each of these mortscripts. If you arent going to use PortSIP run the Endscript so it turns it off. The PortSIP will automatically start the script when launched from Start Bar/Programs folder. I hope this explains how to use the Patches I spent hours trying to figure out the best way to accomplish your tasks.
These Patches will install Mortscript.exe and its registry entries, it will also install 6 mortscripts. 4 are explained above 1 is linked to the PortSIP shortcut and 1 is in your startup folder and that automatically connects and disconnects PortSIP when opening, and closing the program. Its the main script that runs automatically at startup and that Start and End will work with to enable or save battery without having to soft reset).
But for installing the Patches you have to soft reset afterwards to activate the Startup file PortSIPacd.mscr that the CAB installs in your start up folder.
The Auto Connect Only "AC" patch automatically starts the data connection when running PortSIP without using while commands (will only work using PortSIP shorcut in programs). Downside to that is it will not end the data connection. That can easily be ended by pressing and holding the End Call key for a couple seconds. The Patch also installs Mortscript and Connect and Disconnect shortcuts to scripts folder for you to use.
***This paragraph is for people not using PortSIP that still want to use the Data shortcuts! Here is a Data Toggle Shortcuts CAB to install. It will install Mortscript and create a scripts folder with Connect Data and Disconnect Data shortcuts.***
Each patch should be uninstalled before applying the other patch..

[DEV][Coder needed - simple task] Switch off GPS static navigation

Hello there,
I already talked a little bit about this topic in the general forum. The thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324219
I think that this would be an easy, straight forward task. The program should work like this:
1) Start the program
2) The function MI_SetStaticNav (inside gps.s5pc210.so) is executed and the static navigation mode is switched OFF
3) The function MI_GetStaticNav is executed to check if the new status is really "OFF"
4) Display the new status and exit the program
So, all which has to be done is to load the /system/lib/hw/gps.s5pc210.so file in the android program and execute the two functions.
Sadly, I have no clue of programming and therefore I would like to ask if some of you could help me by writing this little program. It would really be a great benefit for the GPS part of the SGS2, because with static navigation the GPS part is nearly unusable if you are walking (you can see this in the image I posted in the other thread).
So, I would be glad if someone could help me out of this.
Best regards and many thanks in advance,
Chris
Hi, I have developed a tool called GPS Control for SGS2. You can check it out on market. It does exactly what you need. However, the device needs reboot when changing SN settings. It requires root access and works only on I9100.

Running apps

Not sure if this is strictly 'development', but it turns out the nexus Q with debugging enabled can run pretty much anything. So far I've only tested the doubleTwist alarm clock and firefox, but it works! (Admittedly, navigation is slow, but still, it's nice to see that Google was open with this)
how are you controlling the apps?
Well right now I'm just feeding it xy coordinates from a computer, but I'm considering trying to rig something up for wireless communication...if I feel motivated enough.
Nice! If i can run things like netflix and a web browser i will definitely pick one up.

Pandora would be nice with this. How are you running the apps? What if we could have an app that would directly communicate to the Nexus Q and just push the running app to it? Just brainstorming ideas
1. I have actually done some web surfing using firefox, and it works (although its not very easy right now)
2. Netflix streaming in fact does work, although I haven't really tested for video quality at the moment.
3. I can try pandora at some point during the week. Unfortunately, I don't currently have access to speakers for it, so I haven't tested any audio yet.
4. I'm running the app by sideloading apks using adb and then running adb shell to start the app.
5. I was considering writing a service that would allow me to send some commands from an android phone...but somebody may have done that already (there's an app on the play store called Tablet Remote that I may try) so I may just give that a go.
I just got my Nexus Q so I'm definitely interested in development. If you need any testers feel free to hit me up!

I've had similar experiences, side loading works just fine and all the apps start up. I looked into this tablet remote, and it seems like it would work too, but I hate the idea of Bluetooth pairing.
In the spirit of this device, I suppose the "right" way to do this would be to forward commands through a server. The receiver service running on the device end with a remote on the client end.
The limitation of the Tablet Remote is that it would require all of the apps to be started via ADB. I'm thinking of making a simple interface that starts some of the apps you would want to run (Pandora, Crackle, Netflix, etc).
I've actually developed a little app that I'll post here in a day or two. Its an app that starts a custom web server that runs in the background. I have a few commands running on it now that list the installed packages and to launch a package. Now I'm working on adding support for intents.
The idea is that you just need to load this one app through ADB (and any other apps you need installed). After that, you just go to the URL of the Q to control it.
Some commands that work now, where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the Q:
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8081 - shows home page with a list of supported commands
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8081/listpackages - shows a list of installed packages, each with a hyperlink to launch that package by clicking on it
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8081/launch?package=com.xxxx.xxx - will launch a particular package
So at this point, I'm not sure how to do touch or keyboard input. Has anyone tried a usb hub to a mini usb adapter, and plugging in a USB mouse and keyboard. I guess you can't do bluetooth devices since you need something to select the action to actually do the pairing.

nwadams - I had to edit the android_winusb.inf file manually. Put this in both the [Google.NTx86] and [Google.NTamd64] sections. I'm not sure if you need that &REV_0216 at the end or not. Then I manually had windows install the driver, and pointed it to the android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver folder.

thanks man. worked like a charm.
Yeah I was actually going to try something along the web server route. We'll see: I won't have access to a Q until thursday
I've experimented with bluetooth pairing (Magic Mouse) but I couldn't get the pairing to actually complete, and logcat was rather unhelpful with that one.
Also, how're you handling starting apps where the activity needs to be specified? I've found that ones that don't handle the Launcher intent or w/e don't really start properly unless I give it the activity name manually.
I just uploaded my test app and started another thread "Juice Receiver". I figured that would probably need a thread of it's own to report problems or request features.
The background service should autostart since I created a broadcast receiver to start the service. In the manifest, I set this for the broadcast receiver: action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"

How exactly did you send it x, y coordinates? I got the netflix apk up and running on it: https://plus.google.com/110462891087801857205/posts/Ufu6hT8GX9i
Obviously useless without some sort of input. I noticed that someone got a HID mouse working with it though.
Also to note: this was not rooted, just did a normal adb install with an apk.

Cool, thanks.
I actually got passed the login page for netflix, just gotta somehow figure out how to press the movie to initiate streaming something.
I actually just eyeballed the screen and guessed where to press until I got a movie to play. Not precise, but good enough for testing.

[Q] Tasker/Torque Integration

I'm looking for a way to use data from Torque in Tasker.
I want to take data from torque and use it to drive actions in Tasker. Specifically, I'd like to turn the screen on when the engine comes on. Is anyone aware of previous work done in this area that might get me started? Or, would I need to code a Tasker plugin?
I'm aware I could accomplish this using ACC power as the on/off flag, but I'd like to charge the tablet at all times and not just when the car is running.
I know this is an old post but I'm interested in this same thing. My goal is to actually get intake air temperatures onto my pebble watch by passing them from Torque to Tasker and finally to the Pebble.
Hi, so still nothing new *push*
I'd also like to integrate Torque variables into Tasker very much. E.g. disabling the security keyguard as long as the motor is running, enable security when the motor is off. (So you can leave your phone in the car with others whilst refueling...
Any ideas?

Hi
You'll need to use the AIDL 'api' interface that Torque supports to talk to it. Sensors information is retrieved only when it is asked for (and if the data was broadcast over intents, android would probably go slow when you're doing upwards of 100sensors/second refresh rates)
The AIDL interface will be the way forwards to get what you want though (then you can do with it what you want in terms of rebroadcasting if you want) - there's some information on it on here: http://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpforumaction=viewtopic&t=438.0 which should be enough to get people started
Tasker plugin for Torque Pro
Is anyone working on this? It would be very useful to be able to have Tasker monitor Torque variables and be able to perform actions based on their values.

I've been able to do this following some disperse advice from the web.
Torque
As you see, Torque is able to write a CSV file with selected parameters. All that it basically does is to add a line at the end of that file listing those parameters values. In its settings you can change the frequency of modifications to that file. In my device this file is stored at /storage/emulated/0/torqueLogs/trackLog.csv.
Tasker
Once in Tasker you should set a profile to act on each change done by Torque to it. I've found the profile to be Event > File Modified and to retrieve those parameters inside the file, set up a task that runs the following Shell Command:
tail -1 /storage/emulated/0/torqueLogs/trackLog.csv
This retrieve the last line of the file and stores the output inside a variable. I called it %OBDLOG. A second action inside this task splits this Comma Separated Values (CSV) from that last line using the action Variable Split, and the separator ",". This creates N variables named %OBDLOGN. Example: %OBDLOG1, %OBDLOG2, %OBDLOG3...
Done that, we have to check which value corresponds to the parameter we want.
Bonus Info
You might want to clean this file once it reaches a specific size.
I've done this so that I can say commands through Bluetooth usingTasker Plugin AutoVoice. You can check the logic used by me to say the Coolant Temperature once it reaches 70ºC in the attached image.
Sorry not to be able to link outside. XDA prevents me as I'm a newbie! hehe
Cheers!
I'm having trouble finding the trackLog.csv file. I have files in the .torque folder on my sdcard but what options in logging do you have to enable to generate loss in the torqueLogs folder?

Just set up something similar. Setup torque as describer by "dirceucorsetti" above, except I dont use "log rotation".
Below is for tasker.
Profile: Torque
State-Net-BT Near
Name-find your OBD adapter in the list
Min uses regular old BT, so I had to check "Standard Devices"
Enter Task:Start Torque
Exit Task: Stop Torque
Task: Start Torque
App-Launch App-Torque
Task: Stop Torque
Misc-Send-Intent
Action-org.prowl.torque.REQUEST_TORQUE_QUIT
Package-org.prowl.torque
Script-Run Shell
Command- tail -1/storage/emulated/0/torqueLogs/trackLog.csv
Store output in- %OBDLOG
Net-Compose Email
Recipient - your email
Subject - TorqueLog - %DATE
Message-%OBDLOG
File-Delete File
File- torqueLogs/trackLog.csv
Of course you could send the file anywhere. I just wanted to share how I start and stop torque automatically. That seemed to always be the issue.
Interestingly I can also start Waze in this task. I could never figure out how to get taker to detect when I was driving. Until I remembered the OBD adapter.
good info! I started googling about tasker and torque integration not really expecting much result. I want to build a custom interface to run on my in-dash nexus7 that reflects some of the torque info/stats. Thats a good start!
Also found this listing of torque intents and data it logs.

Not exactly on topic, but do you guys have any idea how to launch a torque plugin from tasker? I'd love to get my racing dash to launch automatically, but I cant seem to figure out how to make that happen.
I would like to see an actual plugin for torque. Just starting to work with it. Would like to use utter to announce things. And autovoice to ask it questions. Never can get torque to tell me its at operating temp. Also looking for any more creative ideas from people. This could be fun.

[Q] Unified Remote - Launch Chrome, and open specific URL

Hi guys,
I want to know how to do this, I've been fiddling with Tasker and Unified Remote but can't get it to work.
Basically, I've got an NFC tag outside my apartment, when I step in, I tag it, and that triggers a tasker profile which does a few tasks:
1) Switch off data
2) Switch on Wifi (and connect to home wifi)
3) Launch Airdroid on phone
4) Launch Chrome on PC and open Airdroid url (this doesn't work!)
5) Launch Foobar2000 on PC (this works)
6) Launch Foobar2000 android controller.
Everything works, except for launching the address in chrome. I can launch chrome just fine, but the url I've set doesn't open. How do I do this? Any ideas?
Thanks!
No one? I'm sorry to bump this, but I really wanna know, I've tired doing it myself, and I've tried Googling it.
I just wanna be able to get Unified remote to launch Google Chrome AND open a specific address on my PC. Using tasker.
Try Command Prompt
Have you tried UR's Command remote to open a URL on your PC that way?
I too need to make this work, so I'm going to dabble with the Command remote now...
Hey! I was searching for the same thing but couldn't find any easy solution. One solution I have in my mind is to integrate join and Eventghost on windows. But this will be lot more difficult than on android. I have noticed that eventghost has a steap learning curve. Do let me know if you have a better solution for the same.
Cheers!
