Can I flash a Rom , I am HTC dev unlocked as of today and this is my first time being rooted this way, but I don't see super user so I can't use cwm so how can I flash a Rom this way, I mainly want google now working
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
That package that you need to flash is just to enable root on your ROM, if you have twrp already you should be able to just flash a new ROM, just make sure you fastboot the kernel. Unzip the ROM you are going to flash and put the boot.image in you adb directory and then type fastboot flash boot boot.image then jump into recovery wipe dalvik, cache and then factory restore and wipe system and then flash the ROM zip
Make sure to flash a custom recovery first. You need twrp before you can flash ROMs. Also you should read my guide. It goes over a lot of things you need to know to avoid any issues
I don't have twrp, and where is your guide located?

In my sig. Go to the team win website and get the recovery, make sure its for the evolte, it comes in 2 flavors, recovery.image and update.zip. update zip is probably the easiest method
Will I still b able to accept an ota on a stock rom
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
With stock rom you can accept ota, you have to make sure you have stock recovery. At this point there's no real benefit. The fixes to lte seem negligable

As a rooted user, you shouldnt be accepting OTA's. Thats just rooting 101.
There are some very persistent people around these parts lol
I went to the teamwin page and did the Android App Install Method, downloaded the app and chose install OpenRecoveryScript and got the error message unable to find a recovery for your device
Download their update zip or fastboot the recovery.image

Yes I'm unlocked, I just saw that as the preferred method so I was tryna take the easy route lol

The update.zip is the easy route lol fastboot requires you to open a terminal, navigate to the adb directory and the flash command with isn't all that hard, but is a bit more work and requires you to understand the termimal just a bit

Yes, I'm persistent about it. Recommending people take an OTA when they don't fully understand the ramifications of doing so isn't the right thing to do. This isn't just about attaining S-OFF.
If you think you're experienced enough to do so, fine, but someone who just unlocked their device today and doesn't know how to flash a ROM should be taught how to do things properly. That includes very basic things about rooting such as never taking an OTA.
/rant
Yeah yeah, sorry, i didnt exactly recommend it, I just didn't really make any attempts to enforce advisement against it. I'll give you the gas and matches what happens afterward is your responsibility. If they burn themselves, then they burn themselves, most of the users here are not children, they can make their own decisions. If they take the time to look they will see the issues posted.
---------- Post added at 05:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:40 PM ----------
And i wasn't talking about you being persistent, I was referring to the last 10 threads or so (that I've read, skipped a few initially) with other users asking the exact same thing. I'm pretty sure that in the last 4 threads or so the op mentions they know its not advised
But taking an ota from my understanding on a stock ROM will just make me lose root which if I really want to unroot when jb comes out seems like an easy unroot method since I only want root for google now as of now

That would be incorrect. By suggesting you not take the OTA I'm saving you from yourself really.
But in the end, you'll do what you want to do to your device

I just flashed my evo 3d to MIUI current build. Install went successfully, however, once it boots I can not get the touch screen to do anything. It brings me to the unlock page, telling me to slide to unlock but unable to do so. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated. Not sure yet if it's just the rom or something went wrong in my unlocking. I used HTCDev Unlocker.

I don't see the download link?
lol, u really should have posted in miui forum, but i would reccommend using adb to reboot to recovery and either reflash or flash back to the nandroid u made before flashing to miui.
This has been answered several times in the miui thread. Plus why start a thread for this??
Anyway, it's because you have to flash the kernel associated with the rom through fastboot.

Ask this in the miui thread and/or forum. Or anything put in different section. This is android devolopment. No need to make a thread here at all. Not being a ****, jusy sayn, this happened like 5 times this week. People should know, common sense.

I don't think the update will install if you are rooted. But I am not certain of that since I have not personally tried it.
It won't install upon reboot, but haven't had the chance to try and install manually. Just don't want to lose root abilities by updating.

You won't lose root. You'll soft brick.
What is soft bricking? How can I update the flyer without any issues?
Soft brick is when your device won't boot because there are aspects of your software that are not compatable, but can easily be corrected. Hard brick is when you are shot out of luck

How do get root if I made already the update and have s-on??
That depends on whether you want to use HTC unlock (not recommended) or not.
Elfuente, any chance you can give me a teamviewer session for 20-30 minutes at some point today? In return I'll get you to S-OFF, rooted with your current (US) software on HoneyComb.
Is there a simple procedure to get the ota working with s-off, without using adb or digging through tons of threads to figure this out? Now trying to avoid soft bricking and confused to the correct procedure. Thanks.

Yeah, the procedure is to use the search function, or just look on the first page of the Development subforum.
Seriously, I used the following process on my Best Buy WiFi-only Flyer to get S-Off, root and upgrade to HC:
I used the following guide to get S-Off and root. Once you have the required files downloaded, the process takes about 10 minutes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
Then globatron's guide to upgrade to HC can't be any easier. I just used the beginner procedure in Step 2. Just download the file and run the .exe.

If you try to install it, it will hang on the boot screen. And the only way to boot is restart in recovery and delete the file. At least, that's what happened with the previous OTA.
AFAIK, you shouldn't install an OTA if you are rooted, on ANY Android device. You will either get a device that won't boot, or an updated but non-rooted device.

Guy, this weekend I have to flash a custom ROM onto an i717. There is so much info on here that I can't seem to find a decent guide on how to install a custom recovery without tripping the flash counter. I've rooted and custom recovery on a Skyrocket, SIII, Nexus 7, Kindle Fire, Motorola Atrix 4G. I'm not a noob when it comes to this so please help me out. I've searched and searched can't find a decent guide.

Yeah and they all lead to the same things. Root method #1 uses kernel, which i read doesnt work for ICS. Then some root by mashi. I don't want to waste time rooting the stock OS, I just need to install a custom recovery WITHOUT tripping the flash counter.
You do realize that there is a zip file you flash to reset the counter once you done installing a recovery or anything else for that matter right?

Yes it works on ICS. That's what I'm was running when i used it (stock ICS). Read the thread for it and you'll see others have used it with no issues. It may be only for AT&T phones though, can't remember for sure. TWRP is great, but not sure if there is a TWRP file that's flushable through Odin. May need to flash CWR through odin first then install GOO manager from the market a and then install TWRP from that app. Once you've done with eventing, flash the counter reset file and it will put the counter back to 0.

Also from my experience, TWRP won't install through the app unless you are already ruining a custom recovery. Meaning it won't install over the stock recovery. That's why I suggest installing CWM first.

What is the concern with increasing the flash count?
When you flash you increase. If you need to claim a warranty you reduce it.
OBTW since I have had a galaxy device (at least seven) I haven't seen one person on any forum mention their warranty claim was rejected for this reason.

I have no idea why people have this paranoia about getting their warranty claim refused over a flash counter...Do you actually think that the mfgs. spend hours and hours to inspect the thousands of returns they get in every week to see if you flashed a custom rom?
I also have NEVER seen ANYONE say their warranty was refused over a flash counter...
It's not about warranty claims. Its a personal preference. If I can flash a newer phone without tripping the counter then why is this older device get tripped. Its practically the same hardware as the Skyrocket, and that counter was never tripped.

Well if you're applying the same method to something that is supposedly the same and getting different results.
It would imply that something is different in the device foreign to your software methods.
From what i can see a solution has been offered and rejected due to not being minimalistic?
I can see any need for further efficiency unless you plan to work some patch into odin or something all rom creators would add to their deveilop to reset the counter upon flashing a rom.
My money is on them just adding that same zip you rejected earlier.

Hello there! Glad you dropped by.
The ROM Manager is almost decrepit now and not many people use it. In fact, I haven't seen support for many of the new devices lately. You can't install CWM through the phone; you'll need a PC to do that.
LET'S GET STARTED!
Since you're already rooted, you can get the CWM for LG Lucid from here. BTW, make sure that you have some version of Windows installed, as this works only on that.
Unzip the archive and place it on the desktop.
Make sure you enable USB Debugging in Settings > Applications > Development.
Connect the device via USB cable to the PC. (Make sure you don't use any hubs to connect.)
Double click on the Installer.bat file
Follow the instructions displayed on the screen
Once the process is over, you've finished installing CWM Recovery to you LG Lucid 4G!
You can now install CM10! Good luck! :good: Post back here if you have any problems at all!

There is no "installer.bat" file in the zip linked to
http://www.shabbypenguin.com/OUDstuff/cayman/CWM-Installer-Lucid.zip
thank you noseph for having the one box account where I have found the required files (except the CWM install files) (CM, root, cab to kdz, gingerbread downgrade, ect) (Not a fan of RomManager to install CWM)
Everyone on the interwebs seems to have linked to shabbypenguin's now dead links.

Have you rooted it? Try 'reboot recovery' in terminal. What happens?
Yes its rooted..Now to use TWRP since I could not get the stock recovery to work.
Nothing Just reboots....tried re-installing stock FW with the Flash tool and when I upgrade DL it gives me the Factory Reset Status 2
If I Upgrade Board DL.......I get to the OS but no recovery
Have current LG Drivers Current Flash Tools.......Im stumped (No Pun)

We probably will get lollipop via TWRP before ota. If not it won't take long to rip the required parts and package them for TWRP.

I have not, I'm 95% sure it works though. Try it before you need it though just in case. Also you may still not be able to take an OTA as you will be rooted and modded.
