[SOLVED][Q]Wifi problems on ics/jb - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi all,
I've got an xperia mini pro, and if I'm on ics or jb, wifi doesn't work right. It works, so I can connect, but after less than 1 minute, wifi is so slow, that I have to turn off wifi and turn on again. 1 minute working and again same problem.
Do you know if I could to anything to get it better working? Cause it works, but every minute turn off/turn on wifi is very bad. On gingerbread it works wonderfull! So I don't know, if it's related to my device or to my rooter (Speedport W 920V)?
Thx in advance
Mihahn
Edit: Just found that German site, which says, that it's a know problem by sony, but there's no fix yet. So is here any fix for the unstable wifi connection?

Are you on stock Rom?

Jup, but on custom Roms/Kernel higher then gb it's Not working,too...
Sent from my SK17i using xda app-developers app

Nobody around here has got a similar problem?
Everytime I use a custom rom/kernel higher than gingerbread wifi isn't working correctly. On sony ics stock rom, too.
Could it be related to my speedport w920v? Or because I dropped my phone?
It connects I can use it and after 30 seconds or 2 actions/clicks in playstore it's not really reacting anymore and I have to turn off wifi and turn on again. It works for 30 secs and same problem again.
Can somebody help me please?

Same problem with me too, until i was using Real ICS r5.1, it was working great, but now, as i'm using Real ICS r6 beta v3, the wifi automatically disconnects n reconnects after a time interval,
One thing for sure that this is not a problem with every ics or jb rom, but yes, for few roms, definitely its a problem.

Hmmm...you do understand that all xperia 2011 lineup are all base on GB right??? on GB we can use burst mode or dual channel by editing tiwlan.ini (Root Needed)....Somehow Sony forgot to add burst mode in ICS update...tho you can add the line but i don't think it does work like on GB....
the only way to (well atleast) to fix WiFi problem is to modded wifi modules inside custom kernel....

if this problem will be in jb from fxp go to friend who have router and check if the problem persists, if you do not need to replace router ;/ or set the operation mode of the router b / g

Thank you so much, read about disabling n standard wlan before, but never thought it could be the reason on my sk17i.
Now it's working very very well, I enabled only b/g standard and waouhh. Now I can enjoy jelly bean and google now :good:

Automatic WiFi/3G data connection switching on 2.2 ROMs

While I was running the Stock SE 2.1 .435 release (rooted of course) my X10 was capable of automatically switching between the GSM data connection to any of my configured Wifi networks (at work and at home) without any user interaction.
I have a friend with a Motorola Milestone on 2.1 with this same behaviour.
Every 2.2 ROM I have loaded seems to have a problem with regards to this feature. Basically I have to perform a manual switch but here are two of the behaviours I have noticed.
On FreeX10 the SSID basically becomes disabled. If I am at home and connected to my home network and leave the cell area my 3G network becomes established and everything is fine. Once I get back home within the cell area of my WiFi network the WiFi connection does not become active. Instead I have to go into Wireless Settings and that's when I see it is disabled. Long press the SSID and choosing Connect gets me connected.
On [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] the SSID does not get disabled but rather it continuously fails. Same use case as above except when I go into Wireless Settings I see the SSID "Connecting" and then failing and entering the "Remembered" state.
My friend with the Milestone recently upgraded to 2.2 and will test this scenario to see if it is inherent to 2.2.
My question is, would it be possible to take the 2.1 Wifi component and use that in the 2.2 ROMs?
It would be great this could get fixed, same problem is with the gingerbread roms.
Like u said, it doesn't even help when switching WiFi off/on again using my WiFi widget. U have to manually press connect on your specific WiFi connection.
Pain in the ass!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the same problems, tried both roms and ended up sticking with Cyanogen, simply because it was less of a pain re wifi but i still have reconnection problems when leaving my house. The answer is to manually turn off wifi then leave, then reengage wifi manually when i return. A pain but, a small one
Agreed. Toggling the power does not help.
If it is possible to take the WiFi component (for lack of a better word) from another build I strongly suggest considering .435 because it worked phenominally under various conditions.
yea my wifi doesn't seem to work well either with the FreeX10 rom
I assume you already tried Blade Wifi Fix? If not, do so.
The Blade fix was included in the CM ROM I installed. It looks like all it did was power cycle the wifi which as already stated doesn't help.

Try to delete included BladeWifiFix and reboot test again and if still not working install BladeWifiFix new from Market and test again.

FreeX10 is almost the same you can try it there too. What it does? Fix Wifi maybe, for some it fixes for some not so just try it you dont loose anything^^
i have been running free x10 for 3 months i suppose. it switches fine for me.
there where issues of WIFI NOT CONNECTING , no problems of switching though as u stated. so i installed blade wifi and everything was well.
i suggest what wolf says.

I know what it is intended to do but I was wondering how it was doing it. being a technical person I don't like the shotgun approach because the end results are very hard to interpret if you don't know what you are actually doing
but I digress I have installed it and I will be testing as soon as I get home

hi,
after reading this i though ...
me and wolf include blade wifi on our roms.
for me i don`t have any issue regarding wifi on my rom. i get out of home with wifi connected do a 1 hour trip to my work and when i get there wifi pick signal without any issue.
but......
i don`t check right away, so.
like i said me and wolf we include blade wifi and do some changes regarding build.prop to save some battery. one of the most consumer of battery is the wifi.
on SE roms search for wifi every 15 seconds. on mine i change that to 380 sec and wolf around 200 (i think) so...could this be the cause of ????
i personally don`t believe removing blade will do any difference but...maybe those who had this issues try to change build.prop to 15sec ?
well we might be onto something...after installing Blade I was able to switch but I did not time it...seems to have taken quite some time though. I'll time it next time but I'm sure since it will vary because it looks like it runs a timer and I don't know what the details are.
I wonder if Z made the same changes to build.prop as you guys have. I would be interested in testing without this change.
Also, it would be great to know what Blade actually does. I wonder if it circumvents the changes you made to the intervals in build.prop.
Also, any idea as to whether we can use the WiFi component from the .435 build in these ROMs?
Ren,
Is it possible to go in and change the value in build.prop:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=
Without reloading the ROM?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes.
Through root explorer. Just make sure you check all boxes on permitions and after that reboot.

OK. I've been watching what Blade does and all it seems to do is reinitialize the wifi. Seems overkill so I found this:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/WifiConfiguration.Status.html
I want to write an app that will monitor configured networks and set their status to Enabled.
The challenge for me is that I've never developed an app before but I have the SDK installed and it recognized my x10 so I'm good to go. Ill try to get as far as I can but I will need some help. Is there anyone interested in offering themselves as a resource if/when I need some help?

I found alrd but only one guy got the same problem with me but not solve. Actually when using 2.3.4 wifi it ok but when update to ICS so bad
Hi, i have as well some issues with the wireless after updating to the nordic ics ftf. Mostly when streaming audio, after some seconds paying stops. Wifi in statusbar is still connected, but browsing the web etc. isn't possible anymore. Need to reenabe wifi again. Some access points work better than others. Could it be related to the baseband . 70, or has this no influence to the wifi?

I'm using Aire kernel..
• Sony Ericsson ST18i Xperia Ray (Urushi) •
hello to everybody.
Unfortunatelly I think that this post will be useless...but i want to share what happened to me.
With gingerbread (both 2.3.3 and 2.3.4) I had serious problem with wifi: long long time and much attemp to obtain an IP address. And also the rare time that i can connect to a net (I tried with several net and several modem), connection was very unstable.
Only with same public network (for example in hotel) or with same fastweb network (it is an operator present in Italy) I had no problem.
I've update the phone to ICS a week ago....after the update I have no problem to connect with every wifi, and connection is fast and stable!!!
So I've experienced the opposit than you!
Abut this consideration, i think that the problem is in the phone and not in the OS version. I think that if you are lucky, an hard reset can solve your problem.
I talked with many people that had the same problem with gingerbread, and other people that sayd that they had no problem with wifi.
Becouse I don't changed the hardware between GB and ICS, the only thing I can think, is that the bug is indipendent by the OS and happens random.
sorry for my bed english
bye!
edit: with GB I tried to change every parameter in TWLAN.ini and other file...but without "good" result (wrost result yes ).
Moreover, with static IP and DNS I'd obteined positive result whit my home wifi and GB (I can connect in this way, but the connection was quite slow).
but I don't think this is a solution becouse you can't configure a static IP for each network you want to connect!!!! (also if the extreme case, with ICS you can )
Hi.
How, ok, i am on stock kernel. It is still useable, but not as stable as GB. What about the baseband? My is .70 now. Would it be the same with an older version? Strage to hear that some do better with ics.
Sent from my ST18i using XDA
now my baseband is 8x55-AAABQOAZM-203028G-70 (i think is the .70)
I don't remember with GB. for sure it was the stock GB baseband
bye
Don't know exactly but on GB the baseband was .64?! But i am not sure if the wifi is influenced by the baseband? Maybe someone knows that?
Sent from my ST18i using XDA
With Gb i have no problem with wifi evrthing fine. Wifi problem occur when i updated to ICS.
I had the same problem after upgrading to ICS
I've tried the official firmware, custom firmware, the official kernel, kernel aire, kernel doom ... with various possible combinations
but still the problem exists, it usually happens when you're playing games
maybe we should wait for the update from sony?
wifi problem
my problem is also different, i used speedtest on my neo v stock ics and download speed is 1.5mbps, but when i'm browsing its very slow and also on play store it wont load images the download is very very slow. what would be the problem is it my wifi?
Same problem for me. GB->ICS .70-GB->wifi problems... will flash .64 and post feedback here...

I'm running on CM 9 on my Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman. For almost a month I haven't had a problem with my Wi-Fi connectivity. But, since the last 2-3 days, I'm having connectivity issues.

the teethering stops after the screen turns off because the default settings turn off the wifi after the screen is locked ( to save battery).
so go to settings and find the wifi sleep policy option. there you can change it to remain on even after the screen is turned off.
in reply to your other question-> minicm7 2.2.1 is the best rom out there ( at least thats my opinion).
Oh, man, thank you very much! Didnt know about this option, although I saw it months before. Now I have the right settings so dont need to change to different ROM

So, the same problem still remains. Searched and tested many different settings and still, after screen turned off, the wifi tethering stops working and all devices are disconnected.
And the best joke is, that there is NO wifi sleep policy option in phone settings (or I didnt find it there). Show me the way to that option please. THX

btw. when using wifi tethering in girlfriends Galaxy Ace, there is no problem and all working great (even when screen sleeps). She got stock ROM with root only - no special settings!

Yeah, but it didnt work. Tested all three options and each working (including that NEVER) only when the screen is in standby or charger is plugged. When locked after half a minute wifi stops working - ALL OF THEM!

Youtube stops playing after a while

I have Xperia Mini with custom ICS rom, and I have this problem on every ICS rom I try:
When I play video on youtube, it just stops after a while, and its showing like its loading, but it wont load, no matter how much I wait it...
Anyone else who had this problem and solved it?
EDIT: This also hapens on an Xperia Mini Pro on my friend, also with custom ICS rom.
PLEASE, no responses like Have you tried this, have you tried that, I WANT someone who knows whats going on to help me.
Thanks
I had exactly the same problem on my mini. I tried using tubegod and it worked for some time then that too stopped. Check this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695249
Finally I went to Sony and tested it on their WiFi and it worked there. So it must be a problem in your ISP.

Do you mean to say that youtube works fine on stock ics? If it is not a problem with your wifi devices, then it must be a problem with the router. Just reset your router to default settings and re-configure it. Also, set the channel of wifi between 1-3.
Weird.... it really was my router... here, have my thanks
Actually wait... it happened again.. tried with channels 1, 2 and 3, still stops, any idea if I should set the frequency to be 20/40MHz or to leave it at 20MHz?

Isn't there any option of auto frequency? Because my router has that and it sends mixed signals.
Screw it, if it happens again I will call my ISP and ask them about it
