ROM question - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been researching the (many!) different ROMs out there and wondering why, the ROMs that appear to be the more popular ones (Resurrection Remix, Revolt, Thunderbolt) don't appear in the XDA forum category "Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 > Galaxy S II Android Development"
ie. in the article "Index of ROMs" I would have expected these to show up or some indication that they are the "preferred" ROMs... but instead I see a list of 10, 20, etc random ROMs that were just updated today/yesterday.
If someone can help with my newbie confusion...
1. Is it true that Resurrection Remix, Revolt, Thunderbolt are the more popular ROMs
2. If so, why are there so many other ones mentioned here?
I apologize in advance if this is a silly question, but trust me, I've been doing my fair share of research and can't figure this out

They don't appear in original android dev because they're not 'original' ie, built up from scratch. Some are AOSP based, others AOKP, CM, yada yada.
Why are there so many? Simply because, as the first thread in the Q&A states, theres no such thing as a best ROM or a preferred one, for that matter. There are many to choose from as you may have noticed, so pick one that fulfills your requirements, or merely catches your fancy and use it. Some ROMs have turned out to be more popular than others, but that doesn't imply they're the "best" and so other ROMs shouldn't exist.

Your questions have been answered already but I have to add that those ROMs you mentioned are popular, but they are not the most popular.
ParanoidAndroid, which is available in Original Android development of this forum, is the 4th Most popular Custom ROM for Android in the present day.
Anyway, don't choose ROM by popularity. It does not work like that everytime

its a tweaked/optimised version of AOSP Android.
The current build is CyanogenMod 7.0.0 and is based on Gingerbread 2.3 Android, but all the ones that have been ported to our beloved x10 so far have been CyanogenMod 6, which is FroYo based.
It is quite a bit faster, allows you to customise it yourself (via a simple menu interface) and has several apps that are otherwise unavailable on certain handsets. There are many more differences but that is the basics anyway. As old mate said above, you can find out more at http://www.cyanogenmod.com/

[Q] Which ROM do you use?

Hey everybody!
Now as there are a lot of ROMs for our S2 it's quite hard to decide which one to take. To make it easier for someone who's still searching it would be nice to know which ones are the most used ones.
I won't put any versions here, just the main name cause the versions change very fast
So, which ROM do you prefer and are you using at the moment?
Why do you use it?
Double thread, why?

Because he didn't know how/if he could make a poll. It's quite clear if you read the redundant thread
Is there any quick summary of the key features of these kernels? I'm finding the ROM threads a little light in the first post on features and limitations. I know it's subjective, but it would be nice if someone could collect a 2 line summary of each rom. Along the lines of [perf/power] [de/odex] [stock apps/minimal apps]. Also if they are supported only with a specific kernel or not.
leomar for me is the best! if you read the topic of this rom, you will see that the developer is also creating the revolution app...i suggest to stay informed about this rom!
i like cognition S2. always up to date.
Self adapted Cognition 1.2 with added boot /sounds /ringtones/ home brew CSC Hardcores Kernel .

[Q] AOKP support

Hi, I'm a noob so appologies if this has already been answered...
Q: Is AOKP not supports on a Galaxy S2? The official web site does not seem to support the device. Does this mean the the devs specifically mod the ROM to support AOKP?
Thanks in advance oh guru.

1. Questions typically should go in Q&A, not General...
2. I don't think you really understand what AOKP is.
3. There are a bunch of AOKP based ROMs in both the Android Development and Original Android Development sections.

1. Apologies, noob.
2. This may be the case but you certainly haven't answered my question.
I'll try again.
I have Resurrection ROM which is AOKP. On going to the AOKP site, the Galaxy S2 is not listed as a supported device. So, I'm asuming, because it's not listed, that it's not supported by the AOKP team. Install at your own risk??
Am I correct in saying that any issues that may arise are up to the ROM dev team to resolve and wont be looked at by the AOKP team.

"Install at your own risk" is pretty much true for any ROM.
Edit to add: sorry, I forgot to say: though I'm not on the AOKP team, so my answer isn't a definite one, but I'd imagine it would be up to the particular ROM dev, yes.
Hi,
For having tried many, AOKP works great on S2.
I've change for having stock FM radio working, but if you don't need that, there are great.
Enjoy
Instead of actually creating a new thread; does anyone know of a "stock" AOKP for the S2?
I want to try one that hasn't been tampered with.
Oh, the irony.

Please remember that this is for advanced users, who can read with UNDERSTANDING.
No one is looking? OK, use This thread, it will provide you with definite answer.
Do NOT post threads asking which the best ROM or kernel is

//please note i am not asking which rom/kernel is the best! I am purely asking your personal opinion on which i should use between the selected//
OK, you are not asking which one is a best, you are just asking which one is better in the personal opinion of users.
In other words, you are not looking for a hooker, you are just looking which girl will make sex with you for 50 bucks.:laugh::laugh:
same thing buddy.
You're playing semantics. The rule of thumb is that you should flash it out and try it. ROM choices are personal preference. While one may love Omega, another would swear by android revolution, and the other would diss both omega and revo and stake their parent's soul on Foxhound.
Test it out and see which one works best for you.
EDIT: damn you spamtrash for posting before I do... now my post is offsync from the appropriate reply....
Please guys just keep reporting these rule breakers . Mods are going to get fed up and take proper action one day .
PS they are all crap roms .

wrong forum. this is i9300. t999 is here
but in fact:
1) no, samsung gimmicks are based on samsung framework and won't work on aosp based roms, either you find alternatives or someone who has ported it (what is quite unlikely)
2)no, see 1
3) ask in the correct forum
4) best fastest kernel questions violate the rules. test for yourself and make your own opinion
