I created a bootanimation.zip file, placed it in /data/local. It is ignored. If I use root explorer, and move the file to system/media, it works. Am I missing a step somewhere? Was there another config step?

Heres a modded framework-res.apk that has the ICS transitions built into it. Install by doing the following:
1.) Backup current framework-res.apk in the /system/framework folder with root explorer.
2.) Copy the attached framework-res.apk into the system/framework folder with root explorer.
3.) Set permissions as follows Owner(read,write) Group(read) Others(read)
4.) reboot your device.
5.) Enjoy ICS Transitions.
You might have to resetup your google account and resync contacts.
Video shots at all please??

Might be a dumb question, but could these work on other phones with cm7, such as the Incredible? Or would someone have to mod it to work for it? Thanks.
it should work if the resolution is the same
WVGA?

U could try it. Not sure if it would break your rom or not.

Thanks for this!
It will bootloop your phone because the framework is sgs2 att specific do a mastoid because if you put that on a device running cm7 I'm pretty sure you will need to reflash your rom again
This is just my thought please correct me if I'm wrong

I Resized the new cm9 boot animation to fit the note. Looks awwsome. Cant wait for it to hit the note but until then enjoy this kick butt ba. You must have custom kernel installed that allows boot animation change. Check development threads to find these kernels.

Rename it sanim.zip and place it in system/media or use absolute system from the app market.

Nice!!!! Thanks!!!
I'm assuming you forgot to mention this only works on GB, not ics
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Sorry thats correct. I know theres no kernel out for ics that allows boot animation changes. Thanks for pointing that out for those who didnt know.

Renamed it to sanim.zip, added it to system/media, rebooted and nothing. Still stock bootscreen.

did your move the original one after you placed your new one there Ive got it working and it looks great
just a AFAIK
I remember noticing that on "the unofficial (GB)" the file sanim.zip actually linked to a file called bootanim.zip (or close, you can check by doing a properties on sanim.zip with root explorer) Anyway I had been just renaming my animations to that, putting them in the /system/media folder and not messing with sanim.zip
I think that's called a symbolic link or something?

You have to flash kernel that allows the boot animation change using sanim.zip. Check out dagr8s in development section

I renamed the original to a .bak file and left it in system/media. Still no go renaming new one to bootanim.zip
Is the kernel needed for GB?

I'm now on UCLE2- via Flappjaxxx Rom, I removed the 2 bootsamsung files within system/media and placed the CM9 zip (renamed to bootanimation.zip) and now get a blank (all black) bootanimation, I flashed your zip w/ my fingers crossed but still to no avail... If anybody has the 2 bootsamsung files I will gladly be happy with the animation that comes w/ the UCLE2 build.. Thanks
Esco...
I dont believe that build is compatible. It uses stock kernel. If no one beats me to it I'll upload the Samsung files for you in an hour or two when I get back to my shop

Gotcha, thanks, I've been debating doing a reflash, I just have this puppy running so smooth @ this point I think the two files would be more feasible, but I'm on brink of reflashing.. I'll hold on for a bit longer..
Edit:
Just reflashed... Pure Bliss now w/ UCLE2!!!!!!!
Or you guys could install the cm9 in the dev section

A bootanimation.zip and shutdownanimation.zip made to sport the LG Optimus G(E970) and its S4pro CPU. I haven't tested it on any other models, so proceed at your own risk.
Uploading a preview to youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t_47gDGCxE&feature=youtu.be
TO INSTALL:
You must first be rooted
Download the two zip folders
Paste them into /system/media
DO NOT forget to backup your original boot/shutdownanimation.zip folders (if you need a copy of them let me know and I will upload them.)
And you are finished
Instructions on rooting and more can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946&highlight=root
soo, just flash in recovery?
Put the zip files in the /system/media folder. And it works like a charm.

All credit goes to its420oclock :good::good:
YouTube Preview:
DO NOT FLASH IN RECOVERY!!
---- REPEAT ----
DO NOT FLASH IN RECOVERY!!
TO INSTALL:
Download bootanimation.zip & shutdownanimation.zip
Move to phone memory (or SDCard)
Use RootExplorer to copy & paste both zip files into /system/media
(If you want to keep your original boot/shutdown animations as backups, add .bak to their file name before pasting the new animations)
Here's another version... Animations are slowed down slightly and the shutdown animation is reversed, so the OG logo gets smeared, then erased.
