I'm trying to get my note back to original stock GB so I can ota upgrade to ICS.
I did a complete 'backup' of the original rom before I started messing around, and now, no matter what I do, I can't get that backup to reinstall on the phone.
I've done a lot of searching around, and found many threads about getting notes back to AT&T stock, and am very wary about doing that.
I've also found a few threads about getting back to original bell stock firmware etc, but whenever I run the files through odin, I get wierd errors (some with chinese writing), and just get frustrated.
I liked a few of the custom rom's I found, but the crazy thing, is the spen gestures (specifically the double-tap with button down for quick memos) are just too important to be without. I got the phone for work, and thought those where neat 'features'. Well.. seems I can't live without them.
But NOTHING I can find helps. I've tried methods listed on rootgalaxynote.com to unroot and get back to stock, and everything looks fine till I try either ota updating or kies updating. The phone simply isn't recognized in kies, and the ota update says nothing is available. and I know it IS available, cause I did the upgrade just after it was released, before I did all this custom rom stuff.
I'm start to get at my wits end. I simply want my original stock firmware etc. back on the phone, upgraded to ICS, and then I can just forget about everything else.
Is there anyone that can help?
P.S. if you know of any links I may have overlooked, please just post them. Believe me when I say I've spent well over a week just browsing the forums and google, doing searches etc. Its entirely possible it's something obvious that I just didn't see... with my 3 older kids and a newborn, I'm getting almost zero sleep, and am constantly frazzled. I sometimes don't even realize my wife is talking to me (on the worse days).
Anyways, thanks for anyone's help.

If I'm you I would continue with a custom rom. GNote replaces what you want. You can always install a TW based ROM. What I do is have Gnote as a shortcut on my homescreen. With Gnote I can still write with my Spen. Personally, I'd never use a NON-JB Paranoid ROM. ICS has melted over the summer! Being able to tweak my DPI settings is very important for me for each app. The default DPI and screen layouts are too fricken big, ie; status bar and icons. My eyes are still fine so I don't everything humongous on my screen.
Make sure you have Odin3 v1.85 on your pc. Download the Bell ICS ROM from here:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/163095548/c1447e9/I717MUGLF4_I717MBMCLF4_BMC.zip.html
Unzip it on your pc. Restart your phone to Download Mode (Hold "Volume Down" and "Power" to start your phone). Once in download mode connect to your pc and start Odin. Put the ROM.MD5 file in the PDA slot that you just unzipped and update away.
This will give you the Bell ICS stock ROM. Better than the OTA when it comes to rooting it. If you have been reading for a week then I am sure you know what that means.

Thanks for the tips/suggestions.
I did a little more reading, and came to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599127
Flashed the kernal/system/recover like it said, and still a nogo. So then I figured wth, lets flash modem too.
BAM. booted it back, and its currently snagging the ota update.
So now that I have the methods and files to get back to stock, I am no longer worried too much about the future. I did have paranoid 2.0 for a while, and was loving it, but the simple idea of doubletapping while in ANY app to get a quick memo was still missing. Maybe after a bit I'll be hating the touchwiz ui yet again, and need a change. But at least I know now how to get back to stock.
Go figure. The thread itself looks vaguely familiar from earlier in the week, but I for some reason must have skipped it. I just got off a nice nap my wife let me have, and HEY... i figured it out. Guess 'sleep' is actually kinda important
Modem is the most important part for having you phone recognized properly for the OTA update. Link I gave you would have given you the update.

So I think I have a bit of a problem. I am rooted but stayed pretty stock. I only froze a few apps and such but I have no custom ROMs or anything. Well today I turned off my phone as it was glitching out (I use a number password and it zoomed in and I couldn't see the numbers to enter my passcode). When she turned back on I went straight to the home screen, no passcode and my home button doesn't work. I have no lock screen (when I hit my powerbutton I go straight to my home screen) All my settings were reset and such. I defrosted all my frozen apps and am ready to unroot and update (currently on ED01) as I think that is the only way to fix it. I would like to unroot to ED01 but the guide here only takes me to flash DL09. I don't want to have to then download ED01 again then ED04. That seems too much. I would like to know if you either know how to fix it so my home button, passcode and such word again or the best way to unroot. Whatever happens I will probably reroot but I would like to know what to do.
The DL09 route is not that difficult or time consuming but you will lose all data on your phone (not your sd card) . If I understand you correctly, you may want to just backup your apps and other data with mybackup or titanium backup then dl09, then update over the air to ed04 then start over the rooting process that you used before.
Or look into landsharks odin thread... http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ed-custom-roms-w-root-updated-06-12-11-a.html
I highly recommend community rom.
Or you could just wait for someone else that might have an even easier fix. Good luck

Do you have a link for where I could get ODIN?
Or does anyone else know a better way to fix it without losing all my data?
I am not that worried about Apps as I am sure I can find them all again, it would suck to lose my island in paradise island though!
Since I didn't install a custom ROM is there an easier way to unroot or will that not fix my problems? I just really would like my home button to work again and have a lock screen back.
I'm curious, do you still have the problem if you boot into safe mode? If you don't know how to do that, just power down your phone, turn it back on, and press and hold the Menu button as soon as you see the Verizon splash screen. Once it boots up, you should see the text "Safe Mode" in the lower left corner of your screen.

I never tried safe mode. However, I did reset it by going back to DL09 and updating.
I want to root again, but if the gingerbread update comes out soon how do I unroot without having to go back to DL09, if I stay on the stock ROM so that I can get the update to 2.3 when it finally comes.
Don't hold your breath for official gingerbread from vzw. From what I have read, the official GB ota update is most likely a long way off. Our fascinate dev community (TSM) is hard at work creating a stable custom rom from a recent GB leak that might be released soonish.
I would again recommend running a custom rom like community rom (kangbang) don't let voodoo scare you away, just read up on as much as you can. Look at http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/
Android central has some forums that are a little more noob friendly that got me hooked on messing with my phone
As far as an easy way to unroot look through the link above.
I hope this helps in some way
The link I use most is (from above post) [How To][Links] Themes, ROMs, Kernels, Boot Animations
Jaekar keeps the page up to date with the newest roms, kernals, and themes. Plus he makes b.a. bootanimations.
It all depends on how deep in the rabbit hole that you want to go.
Worse case scenario, there is always odin

Thank you very much. I guess rooting will commence soon then!
If you prefer stock , rooted, debloated, debinged, deodexed, ed01 which is very snappy as well then you may try what Dear dnoyeb had suggested to me ,

I agree - with both the suggested custom ROM and the opinion on Android Central. After reading up on things, if ComRom ends up being the way you decide to go check out this thread on Android Central for an overly detailed (and therefore hopefully noob-friendly) guide on how you can obtain it.
OK, Heres the scenario, This is a replacement T-959 vibrant, sent from either TMO or Samsung, really not sure! My 1st phone never had any issues with modding, and always cooperated! Until I used KIES to update one day and It bricked, because of primary and SBL corruptions. [I know!!, found out 5 mins too late about using KIES] Anyway, since Ive had this replacement phone its done nothing but fight me from the start, never has acted right I think and I feel there's something wrong HW wise with it. My problem with it now, is it wont accept any other custom ROM I try to install, and only works with either 2.1 or 2.2 stock OEM ROM's. Meaning, Anything else ROM wise, It wont go past the last part of boot sequence, and just keeps looping, and does it over and over again! Ive tried all of Simple Honeys, Toxic 8's Roms, and each time it goes thru the loading successfully, and then starts it boot-up, but every single Flash Ive done, ROM wise, it hangs up and loops at the very last part of booting up. Ive come to realize now, it isn't the ROMS, but the phone " I THINK" Each time I tried a Custom ROM install, I started with stock fresh JFD install, and wiped and cleared out everything before starting another ROM install, but with each attempt that I try to go past anything other than Froyo stock, It does this boot loop problem at the final part!! It seems like who ever sent it to me, did something to the phone to prevent this. Modding it I mean. like right now I'm on Eugenes Froyo, with the 2E RECOVERY, It was working fine, until I upgraded the Eugenes kernel, which is suppose to work with this ROM, technically the phone still runs, but as soon as I did this, I now cant get into the two drives as mass storage to tranfer files, says insert disk, like as if its a CD Rom drive, WTF!! And like I said, this phone wont accept any other ROMS now, past stock Eclair or Froyo OEM and kernels as well. I don't understand what the problem is, My guess is they flashed something to prevent modding or its just a corrupted HW issue, anybody ever seen this before. I wish I had just JTAG'd my first phone with Josh over at Mobile Tech, and saved myself all this heartbreak and frustration, but its too late for that now! So anyway, I need to determine for sure if this phones screwed, HW wise or if there is SW to get this phone straighten out, to where it'll work right like my first one used to, and begin to accept custom ROM's like it should be able to do!! I'm at my last end with this phone, and I'm desperate to get a solid reason/answer for whats happening here, because Ive followed all the instructions and standard procedures to insure that all the attempted installs of the ROMS I mentioned go correctly. And its boiling down to either HW issues or a SW issue they created before they shipped it to me, or last but least hopefully a SW fix here, that can get the HW/phone to act right again, and maybe salvage this phone, otherwise I'm thinking I need to buy another brand new phone and hope for the best. I just don't want to be stuck and limited with Froyo stock, for the rest of my time using this phone, I want my freedom to choose again, like I had before, and also It ran so much better than OEM anyways!
Go back to stock using the sticky on the q&a then root using that same methOd and when you flash a custom room make sure you wipe dalvik and cache and delete user data

If you had picked up on it in my post, have already done this dozens of times!! Oh and BTW, when at JFD = 2.1 Eclair, it wont allow the 2 drives access to in Cabled USB mass storage, and therefore unable to CWM flash with zips, then I must go to 2.2 Froyo next to be able to get past that problem, but again when I go from there to any custom ROM, it fails to boot at the very end, and starts its looping. Again, the 1st phone I had, never ever, behaved like this!! Same phone but, different dates of manufacturing and also this one came from either Samsung or TMO in Plano,TX where that's all, they do is send out phones for replacement, and this one wasn't in a original box, something they worked on, grabbed off the shelf, and sent to me!! Its just a shame that 99% of all the ROMS are in zipped form, instead of TAR files, at least then I could've tried flashing some of them from, Eclair to see if that made a difference, but when they are zipped, you must use CWM recovery to flash, and thus again presents another problem as far as what I'm going thru here!
Got any thing else, Idea wise, that actually hasn't been tried yet, that makes sense??
OK, Ive made some progress, It seems for whatever stupid reason, that unlocking my phone, [jailbreaking] was the culprit of this phones renegade behavior, I simply restored it back to a locked status as a TMO provider, and Wholla, the phones now acting right!! And I have been able to get it to the ROM I wanted and flash a better kernel as well with 0 defects!!! And then I jailbroke it again, and its working flawlessly.
Personally I don't understand why that had a bearing on its behavior, but nun the less it did. And has cause me a few extra wrinkles around my eyes in stress trying to figure this out by myself, especially when all the suggestions and procedures I did was for nothing, until this phone was restored to a locked condition again!!
Go figure Right???? Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Anyway I hope mentioning this will prevent someone else in losing their hair or sanity!!
hello i think we have the problem, i also have openline my vibrant to be able to use here in our country.. i have 2.1 eclair, i just want to know what 2.2 ROM did you used coz you've said that it's ok to upgrade it to 2.2, but not other ROM, where did you get it.. can you pm me the link
thanks
Hey All,
I've been looking for an answer for over a day now, but can't seem to find anything about my specific problem. Here's what happened:
I had flashed to ICS 4.0.3 on my Samsung Vibrant about a month ago and everything was working great until yesterday when I woke up to find the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen on my phone. I did a little research to find out that there is a fix to this and to NOT reset the phone. So, I took the steps to ODIN the phone back to Stock Eclair in hopes that starting from the beginning again would be easiest way to fix the problem. The ODIN process finished completely fine (PASSED), but now when it reboots, I only get to the first "Vibrant" screen, then it shows the battery and spinning circle icon. Apparently it won't fully reboot. I've tried to ODIN it back to stock several times, and I keep getting the same results. I can get it into download mode and plugged into my computer, but that's about it.
From the posts I've read, it sounds like my phone might still be okay to recover since it does power up, but I can't seem to find a solution to get it fully back up and running.
Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Maybe your JFD file is corruption. Check with your MD5 sum if there any error or mismatch.. Just give you an idea.BTW what Odin are u using. I recommend Odin 1.7 I stay away the older Odin or the newer Odin
You are screwed.
Sorry to tell you this but i had the exact same problem and found no solution whatsoever to fix the phone. I finally gave up and bought a Galaxy Nexus. You can try flashing Eugene's Unbrickable Froyo Rom which is flashable through odin as a .tar package along with the pit file. You might be able to fix it but i highly doubt it. I flashed Eugene's rom and got the same results as you described. By any chance did you click "Reset Phone" when the "Encryption Unsuccessful" showed up? If so well yeah your phone is pretty much paperweight as of now...until someone finds a solution. Like you i am also able to access download mode. So i guess there may be a way to fix your phone. Not saying it's impossible...hopefully someone finds a solution soon.
Here is the link to Euguene's rom: http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=8
Good luck.
OP, what ROM were you running (specifically. Not just ICS 4.0.3-what is the name of the ROM)? Also what kernel?
Since you are not the only one this happened to, I would like to know the above and see if it correlates to the others that this happened to in the Vibrant section. I'll post the same in their threads too.
Check here out for a possible solution/workaround.
Replacement Vibrant Coming
Thanks for your recommendations/help guys.
I decided to go to T-Mobile and complain and they are sending me a replacement phone. Apparently it's still under warranty, so it won't cost me anything, and if my data is lost, then so be it...at least all my contacts will still be in tact through my Google account.
Merio - I did NOT hit the Reset Button when I saw the Encryption Unsuccessful screen. Before doing anything I did a little research and I found a forum here on xda that said to not hit that button, and tried to explain a way to fix it using the Heimdall One-Click. Basically it sounded like I'd be flashing back to a Gingerbread ROM. So, instead I just went ahead and tried to flash back to stock Eclair. The results of that were obviously not good.
Woodrube - I was running the Passion 13 ROM (ICS 4.0.3). Was really enjoying it until I got the Encryption "Screen of Death"
I don't know what Kernel it was, actually, I don't really know what a Kernel is...
Thanks again guys. Hopefully I'll be up and running on my replacement phone soon!
Hello,
First off, this is such an awesome website, my hat's off to the hard working Developers here. Kudos to you!
I got my Gtab about two years ago, and quickly found this site, having found that I can return my GTab back to stock, with little or no trouble, I starting trying many Roms, all of which have been great! I always found my way back to stock, having all the hardware fully functional eventually made a difference. I kept a clockworkmod backup, and always would return to it, until I accidently deleted it. So I redownloaded the stock rom, 1.2 4349, and was back on my way to restoring my Gtab, then I hit a snag, a LONG time ago, I downloaded Robeet's Stock Recovery enhancement pack 1.2, as everything else I had problems with, now I can't find it to redownload it, and every Gapps download seems to have a problem with 1.2 / 4349, which became worse when my Gtab had the OTA update to 5399. Which I'd like to stay on.
So my questions are these,
Is there a good stable Gapps package out there for 4349 / 5399, that doesn't change the gallery, or make the address book crash?
and what version of Clockworkmod should I install? 3028 makes the Gtab freeze on the three birds, or Gtablet logo, after 5399 update.
I've been flashing, reformatting, and reflashing, and combing this site for about two weeks now. and don't want to give up on it, even though I just bought an Acer a700, still love my Gtab.
any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
Do you know the name of the file you need?
I have the following:
gtab.1.2-4349.recovery.pack.1.0
gtab.Brilliant.Corners.1.2.0
gtab.Brilliant.Corners.1.2.1.suppl
gtab.Brilliant.Corners.1.3.0
nvflash_gtablet_2010110500
nvflash_windows_20100500
Not sure if one of those is what you are looking for but I haven't seen anything from Roebeet on any social media site since 09/2012.
I am going to upload the files to my Google Drive. Let me know if you need access.
Thank you for your offer,
I have the Rom (stock 4349 with stock 1.2 BL) I need some advice on what Google app package to use with it, that also will work with the 5399 OTA update, then some advice on which version of CWM I should use to avoid freezing & reflashing.
Tablet stable
After several boot freezes, and a host of other glitchy problems, I had to reflash the rom again, and nvflash stopped about two thirds through, and never finished. My G Tab stuck in APX mode, so I powered it down, opened up the case and did a hard reset, I had to solder the power connector earlier last month, so I made sure I knew where the reset was, after doing that, the nvflash finished, the rom installed, it did an OTA update to 5699, and I flashed clockwork mod 3028, then 4015 onto it, and it seems to be working fine. put GApps on, and the market updated itself extremely quick. So now im looking for a few apps that were included in some earlier stock roms, I found Tegra zone, Im still looking for the "Picture Frame" widget, (Not "Picture Frame plus). Anybody have the Apk for that lying around, I'd greatly appreciate it!
I got the S4 back when it first came out, and messed around with some CM ROMs and other custom ROMs that worked fairly well. The big killers for me though were bluetooth audio not working, not being able to use headphone microphones, and the proximity sensor being all weird. So I reverted to stock but kept root, and eventually upgraded to MJ7 while keeping root. When I boot I still get the 'Samsung Custom' bootscreen.
I've never been happy with Touchwiz, and have all of the Samsung features turned off. The stock messaging app is really the thing that bugs the hell out of me, since it takes forever to get messages (sometimes up to an hour, while Handcent will get them right away), and I love my Nexus 7 experience. I'd really like to get as close to a 'Google' phone as possible, but I'm currently stuck on Verizon.
I've tried using GooManager to download the recovery managers again, but it's having problems with 404 errors downloading the scripts. I tried ROM Manager and it says it installs ClockworkMod (6.0.44 in fact), but it refuses to boot into recovery mode. Most of the tools I'm finding are not for MJ7, so I'm kind of hesitant to solutions that aren't for my current version. Since I can't make any backups without being able to boot into a proper recovery mode, that's another kind of notch against using most of the guides.
I don't mind the actual process of doing the work, I'm just not sure where to go from here. What are my options?

Well unfortunately for you you're on MJ7 which means your only options right now are rooting and Xposed. Other than that though, there's really nothing else you can do at the moment. If you were on ME7 or MI1 still you could at least run Safestrap, but even then you would be limited to Touchwiz based roms. Unless you're willing to go on the hunt for an MDK S4 you'll just have to deal with your limited options for now. Oh and before you ask, there is absolutely no way to revert back to earlier firmwares. Once you update, you're stuck.

Yeah, I know I couldn't revert the firmware to something earlier. Is it possible to revert to stock even? At this point I think I just want to revert it and sell this phone off and get something else. I don't care about KNOX status, just getting it back to stock so that whomever buys it won't keep getting security notifications.

Yes I believe it's possible, I found this thread that gives you an Odin image to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217
The security notification was actually fixed and supposedly an update was pushed out, but maybe yours didn't grab the update properly? I'm not sure, but that Odin image should get you back to factory stock. If I were you I would get an HTC One if you can live with not having a removable battery and sd card.
Awesome, thank you very much.
I'm re-flashing today take it back. I'll have a look at the HTC One, since it wasn't out when I got my S4. I know that (at the time) the S4 was the only Android phone I had found, with the One a close second but not available. I would really love a Google phone, but I get the feeling that will probably never happen on VZW.
