I've tried the Jellybean builds, I've noticed the audio output is very low. I use my phone for music in my car through my auxiliary cord. With the samsung roms music is a lot louder. I did download VOODOO louder which did work well on CM9/AOKP builds but I can't find a solution for Jellybean.. I've tried extweaks with siyah jellybean kernel and jacked up the audio to 6DB but it doesn't do much at all.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yes. I'm well aware. I'm just wondering if anyone has had a work around for it.
I have the exact opposite problem on any cm or others like my output volume is super loud

I had the same issue. AOKP JB as secondary ROM with Siyah 4.1, all the way up to the update ont he 9th. I installed DSP Manager, and it makes marginal changes maxing out the equalizer. Today I downloaded EX Tweaks to figure out how to tinker witht he CPU (locks up when 1600 max selected by the way, 1400 is the highest I've gotten working, but haven't bothered with 1500 since it's running great), and noticed it had audio options, and it only goes to +3, but it's a massive difference. Maybe uninstalling everything wipe, and fix permissions, then try with just Ex Tweak, and if it's not that different, put DSP on there. That might be the combination that's working for me. Not much of any significant increase in battery drain. Though I have an extended battery anyway so if it did it wouldn't bother me. Either way, try it out. Used to have my car volume at 22, to listen womehat loud/enjuyable, bumping it up to 26 for the 'good songs'. When I put JB 28 was the ok with like 35 being the good songs. Now, 18-20 is just right. Just for reference I guess. Just search for DSP manager in google for the apk. Hope this helps. I'm a f***'n savage noob so all I can to is trial and error.

go to the market and search for Beats audio. Do a Nandroid backup then run the app installer. It puts the drivers on your phone. It works and definitely increases the sound. My 2/15 is more like 10/15 stock. I've had to download Fine Volume Control to allow me to get the music to a volume that isnt too loud.

Anyone know of an app like dsp manager that will allow bass reduction? I drive an s-10, and have a 1000w Rockford P2 subwoofer sitting behind me. Even With the bass turned all the way down on my radio, the bass still overpowers the treble. I ran a rom on my old droid that had dsp manager with a check box for bass reduction, but it won't work on my tbolt. Any ideas?

I can't tell but are you saying that setting in DSP Manager in CM7 for the TB doesn't work? or you just want that CM feature on another rom?

I'm just saying there is a version of CM done by Slayher for the TB.
And since it's CM, it includes DSPManager which seems to work.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049542
As far as pulling that out and using in another rom, I'm not sure as I've never tried.
I would imagine there are other music players on the market that have equalizer settings like that you can use to reduce bass though, if you don't want to flash CM for whatever reason.
I've got it working with gb BAMF. I was just using the wrong apk (d'oh). For anyone else interested, this link will get you the cm7 dsp manager:

I've already looked around at various options for boosting the volume on the phone, and I've run into issues at every point:
I've seen people reply to these threads saying that it's the headphones at fault: My headphones are fine. I'm comparing volume to an HTC Desire, and the SGS2 is distinctly lacking. And yes; I have plugged my headphones in fully
Another common reply seems to be that MIUI volume is higher than Stock so there is no issue. There is an issue: it's quieter than an HTC Desire!
Using *#197328640# to access Service Menu -- I'm running MIUI and therefore do not have the stock dialer, so codes don't seem to work. I could flash the stock ROM, do the code, fix the volume, but apparently the setting is lost after reboot -- so flashing MIUI after that is certainly going ot lose any settings.
I had a go with a couple of apps off the market, with low expectations, and they didn't work either.
I'm rooted (of course) and reasonably tech-savvy so I'm quite comfortable with a Linux system and ADB, quite happy to hack and patch. Is there any (permanent) fix I can apply to increase the volume? I'd prefer something fairly elegant, like applying the Service Menu options manually (somehow) at boot.
Have you tried Voodoo Louder?
Great tip, I wonder how I didn't find a reference to Voodoo before... I just bought the app and it seems to be working as expected!
Thanks a lot I'll test it through the day!
try the fix that in my signature then if u like to use voodoo louder u ear will blown lol
^^
+10000000000000 this ;-) Have been using Yahyoh's fix for a while now, have tried Voodoo Louder but this little app increases volume much more & also gives a "fuller"/less hollow sound.
Thanks for this info yahyoh, it's quite interesting that it's using
Code:
# alsa_amixer sset Headphone 31
I had a quick look (via BTEP) and found the names of the devices:
Master
Headphone
Speaker
Side Tone (NB. my previous research suggests playing with this will create echos in phonecalls -- so probably don't play with it!)
There are a bunch of others; I got the list via
Code:
# alsa_amixer | grep '^Simple mixer'
I am slightly wary of this solution, however, since it sounds like it keeps executing these "sset" commands on a regular basis (every second or so) and it doesn't seem like that elegant a solution. I'll stick with Voodoo for now, and if it isn't enough, I'll revisit this modification of the ALSA settings.
I'll pay special attention to the warmth of the sound, too, as I've installed the CyanogenMod DSP Manager, so thanks for the tip MistahBungle

Yeah it will; MIUI is AOSP, as is CyanogenMod (which MIUI is based upon).

As I found out after clicking on link
Apologies - I'm stupid today - bloody toothache
Yea the volume is way to low. I would love a fix. No programs
There is no fix without a program. That little app of Yahyoh's doesn't work with ICS, Voodoo Louder will give you up to 6dB extra volume with headphones/headset.
Does this increase system volume also?
would like to know this as well
the sgs2 just becomes picker with headphones - you gotta go with low impedance models. something like < 20ohms
I have an issue of volume being very soft when using a earpiece or playing music compared to stock. Anybody have this issue or any solution to it?

Maybe try Voodoo Louder from Google Play. Gives you up to 6dB extra volume thru headphones/headset.

Any other way except 3rd party? Like copy audio lib from stock etc??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Probably not.
There was a little app (free) that used to work on AOSP GB roms that played with the ALSA settings to increase the volume on headphones/headset (a lot; much more than Voodoo Louder does), but it doesn't work with ICS. At all.
Voodoo Louder really is the only option that will give you a nice kickup in volume without reducing the sound quality (I've seen people claim some other apps increase volume more, but tend to mess the SQ up).
I guess you could try copying the audio libraries from stock, but good luck getting them to work. They're obviously not going to work on any AOSP based rom, and you'll likely have a lot of problems getting them to work on non-stock Samsung based roms as well.

Hi there.
How to manage DSP on Cianogen 9 ROM?
I tried DSP manager and Awesome Beats but they don't work...
Tks!!
DSP Manager works fine for me as long as I'm running CM9 kernel. If you use another kernel chances are it won't work unless it's supported on the kernel side. If you're using Siyah, don't expect CM9 DSP Manager to work anytime soon; Gokhan is too busy to get it working.
Edit - If you're using a music app with it's own EQ/plugins, you probably won't notice DSP Manager unless you have EQ set to flat & any settings which 'colour' the music off.
Further edit - With Beats, I doubt you'll notice DSP Manager no matter what you do given how ridiculously bassy they are.
I'm using CM9 ROM and it doesn't work...

try clearing data/cache of that app and see if it wrk's
Already done, no luck for me...
Just use fe. PowerAMP for music and/or Equalizer for overall eq...
Got them, but i can say the result will never be like using the DSP, dynamics and frequency range are so much limited...
Rubbish. Clean your ears out.
Poweramp's EQ & other settings you can use to colour music are much better than DSP Manager. And get some decent headphones as well, that might help
Dear, I've been using Poweramp and Equalizer for years.
1st there's no compression, and compression is mandatory to get something good off the worst yamaha this mobile integrates.
Then, all effect are not so deep like with DSP, it seems that DSP uses some hardware aids.
I use Bose in-ear, except for low frequencies they're not so bad...
Common sense says if you have a problem with CM9, you ask in the CM9 discussion thread. But if you want to sit in this thread & hope someone comes along & helps you with a problem that seems to be only happening for you, be my guest.

Well, you're right.
I asked before directly on Cyanogen forum, but no solution at the moment...

can yu please explain what yu meant by ''dsp using hardware aids '' ??
I mean hardware DSP...
I've tried many different dspmanager apks and libs and never managed to get any working apart from DSP Manager V1 which if I remember correctly was included in the release candidates of CM9. That still works if you take the apk from one of the RC builds and overwrite the one in CM9.1 and possibly other CM9 related ROMs.
A better solution though was to flash this instead - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709497
Even though this is for a different model of phone, it gives you the latest version of DSP Manager on CM9.1 on the SGSII and it works perfectly.
Give it a try but remember...do a backup first before flashing!
After installing the latest CM9 built on my P7510 I noticed that the sound coming from either the speakers or the headphones is very low compared to the official ICS ROM. I tried to adjust it with the DSP Manager but I cannot bring it to the levels of the official ROM. This is a problem particularly when watching movies because even at maximum level the audio is low. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is the a fix? I use pershoot`s CM9 built of 29/09/20212.

lol ...... I have the opposite problem for ganbarou v1.0 as the volume seems to be too high even when I have it at lowest with my headphones which is why I use vodoo sound to decrese the sound while I listen to music. U an use vodoo sound to bring up the sound too beyond default Max ....... so yeah, just install it from play store and give it a try!
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
I've used an app called Volume+ but it distorts the sound. As for Voodoo, it says that the kernel should have a patch which allows its use but I am not sure if the kernel in CM9 supports that.

OK, I installed the Voodoo volume app and I managed to get a proper sound level. The strange thing though is that the DSP Manager already has this functionality installed but it does not affect the sound. The standalone app however works properly.
