Slide notification bar short cut - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've just found out that when you slide down the notification bar and the for example you keep your finger on wifi, data or bluetooth for 2 seconds it will take you to the settings of the selected icon.
I've never seen this on any review or read of it anyware. I'm on latest Ics Checkrom.
Thanks
Oz

Yeah I just noticed that by accident recently, very handy. No idea it was there in ics, I'm on latest jellybean leak.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

It was added few jb leaks ago, so it was not included in ics or first jb leaks.

Yes it works on checkrom. Don't think it works on stock.

That's been a pretty standard feature since like forever. I swear people don't read anything about their phones.
Came with jellybean? lol.

Actually he is partly correct. It is standard feature for AOSP ICS and JB roms BUT Samsung has only implemented it in JB and not in ICS for the S3. So, you're the one who isn't reading.

Actually thats not strickly true i have always been on stock samsung ICS rom and it worked as a direct shortcut straight out of the box- has done since i got the phone. Found out by accident when playing with phone when i first got in - held wifi for a tad long (couple of seconds) and it went straight to wifi settings menu!! Useful little feature..
Hmmmmm just trying it now and it don't work anymore!!!! ... it deffo worked on the samsung ICS rom out of the box, Had a update via Kes a month or so back which put me on I9300XXLH1, I9300XXBLG8 4.0.4 so either that stopped it working or something i've frozen has stopped it!!
I know for a fact it worked coz i used it several times when i first got phone and was messing about with all the settings etc!

What did you expect? They have to design consistent software across their product line.
XPlay-Swype
oh, was it meant to look anything like how it does on Nexus or is that a Nexus only deal, coz all icons are the same, dial pad etc.... ALL THE SAME
That is one of the reason I am still on GB ... and moved to MIUI GB now mate..
They dont want a change on their treditional touchwiz look.....but salute them for making the hacking very simple....lets find our own AOSP...
i'm on slim ics now.. it's pure google way.. but me too think ics gives nothing new.

Should use F1 ROM if you want pure nexus feel.

You have to produce a model that is workable and usable by your customer base and their IQ .
jje
anyone that expected samsung ics to be like stock ics is an idiot
ICS on gs2 is sooo disappointing. I'm on XWPL7 with Sayid kernel v3.1rc5. Looks almost the same and battery sucks and i get freezes and random restarts... wifi is flakey... I guess we'll be the guinea pigs for now
ICS for SGS2 sucks...
IQ? IQ has nothing to do with anything. IQ testing is and always has been a failure for testing ones intellect
Whiners go back to lovely GB and flash all the kernels you want to make the already fast phone fly and
Run quadrant and be happy

Does samsung intentionally delay 4.0.4 update?

Does samsung intentionally delay 4.0.4 update? (because they want s3 to have more softwate feature advantage maybe?)
I mean where the hell is 4.0.4? I'm pretty sure they have the update ready since s3 and s2 rom are very similiar..
Maybe. Marketing.

Have you ever wondered that they will never release 4.0.4? Just saying...
Its possible but updates always lag behind the latest Android version. Its always been the case whether a new flagship is on the horizon or not.

Hahaha, clearly it is going to power the next space shuttle.
It may not turn any phone into rocket launcher but it is rumored that it will fix the problem of the e-mail app with the exchange servers and other problems that you might have not faced but exist Warhero141
It is fixed in WLPG, at least for me.
nothing to do with SGS3, how long did they took to launch 4.03?
this should be enough to know how long..........
4.04 brings many fixes in ICS, its the stable of all ICS yet
If Sony even released the 4.0.4 update for the low/mid-end xperia ray, and Samsung won't support/update a 1 year old high-end phone, i say shame on them!

Are we getting JellyBean?

So yeah...are we getting an AOSP build of Jelly Bean it is going to be like ICS TW. Which I hate...if that's the case, I might as well switch back to a GNex...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Yes we are If you see cm9 is supporting the galaxy s3 but as soon as cm10 Will have it too, supply is easier to integrate jelly bean with ics
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
We might get CM10.
Is that in the near future or the far future? Becuae the source code just got released and I think TouchWiz is a ***** to be incorporated with AOSP or something like that.
And even then, I don't think all the features will work right? I think...
I just don't wanna get rid of this phone. Mainly for the Camera. I don't care about the processor at all.

Samsung announced that the S3 will be getting the update in Q4. So sometime before the end of 2012. I'm thinking end of October or early Novermber.
Of course we are getting both. We will be getting an official update from Sammy with TW and an AOSP rom from the CM team. Hell even old GS1 phones will be getting JB because where there's a will there's a way. One thing for sure though is you need a little patience; Source just dropped a couple days ago. Let these cooks spend some time in the kitchen and you'll be rewarded greatly.
Samsung is probably waiting until right around the new iPhone release to release gs3 with jelly bean lol

But will it be AOSP or a TW JB like ICS?

What do you think? Do you really think Samsung is going to wipe out TW because of Jelly Bean? We'll get TW Jelly Bean, and I'm sure CM10.

Really worth updating to 4.1?

I recently got myself nexus 7 which has 4.1.2 and doesnt have any flash support but i installed flash and im using firefox with it. The performance of flash is still isnt great and some times crashes . Have tried different browsers but still the same issue.
I personally use flash quiet alot .. does the crashing issue exist on s3 4.1 update aswell?
Can some one with the new update shed some light please
Because atm ics is doing just fine for me .
Thanks

Updating to 4.1 is a pretty good advantage.. that way you get updated to most of the things.. anytime, android will abandon ICS soon like how they abandoned GB </3
hahahaah
Of coarse its worth it, always.. unless the update is a buggy as hell release but, for the most part- it only gets better

GB or ICS or JB stock rom only

Hi
I am running xxlsj for a few days and its good with Nelp4 modem.
I was wondering for an optimal performance os for galaxy s2. Will it be ginger bread or ics or jb?
I know there are custom roms kernels etc available but I am only interested in stock roms so please keep it to the subject.
Any thoughts?
Ta

for battery life: Gingerbread
for performance: Jelly Bean (although there's only AOSP builds afaik)
I'd go with a ICS stock-based ROM like WanamLite
If you want only stock roms, go with ICS. It's more recent and have many options that GB don't have.
Notice that really official Samsung stock, there isn't any JB versions yet, but Samsung claims that will release it until the end of this year.
There is a Samsung JellyBean leaked that you can use, but it's not an original stock release, keep that in mind.
Search for xxlsj on google and you will find your below statement incorrect in regards to jellybeans for gs2. I am already using jelly beans leaked "official" version.
Thanks for your input though.

Leaked versions are not releases.
My response was for dewalla's original post which he has edited since.
delawalla has just replied :***************If you want only stock roms, go with ICS. How about if we leave the cynicism on English language itself and focus on real question?
No one mentioned release so where are you coming from?

This is just another glorified "whats the best rom thread".
If your happy with your current setup, then use that.....and if not, try out other roms.

I take that to mean him saying: "but it's not an original stock release"; and you saying: "Search for xxlsj on google and you will find your below statement incorrect in regards to jellybeans for gs2. I am already using jelly beans leaked "official" version."
He specifically has the word "release" in his post. So he mentioned it. You seem to dispute the existence of a "release" by saying his statement is incorrect, and you are using the leak as evidence of this.
There is no cynicism here. I interpreted what you said in the context of the response to his post. If that's not what you meant, then clarify.

Yes, I edited my post because it was wrong, so I corrected and complemented it.
