Liquid ICS 9/9/12 Bluetooth issue - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI all,
I can't post in the Dev section yet so I will ask here. I installed this ROM last night and it all went well except for today in the car while testing bluetooth I have no audio unless I switch the source away from Bluetooth and back (say, set it to Speaker then back to BT). I did a full wipe again and re-loaded the ROM and still have the same problem. I am using the .19 radio if that makes a difference and my car has the older (2008) Ford Sync system (2.1).
Is anyone else having a similar issue?

This seems to happen quite a bit. It's a semi known issue from a number of cusom ROMs. Have never seen a solid fix for it except what you just described. Some people have this problem and need to competely turn it off and back on to get it to work! If it truely is a dealbreaker for you (it shouldn't be...not that big of a glitch), best bet is to stick to a ROM closer to the original tbolt software.

Its not that its a dealbreaker but it kind of defeats the purpose of using handsfree in the car when I would have to pick the phone up and switch BT inputs to get it working. I had a low Bluetooth volume problem with a rom before which was fixed with, I think, a different radio but I never had this one before. I noticed someone else posted the problem in the official thread so hopefully comes out if it. Thanks.

So this happens every time u get a call, or only every time you connect to the car?

I haven't received any calls yet while connected to BT but it happened when making calls and it seems once I do the toggle to get things working then it "sticks" and works thereafter. I haven't tried reconnecting while in the car to see if the fix would stick afterwards but this morning when I got into my car I tried making a call and it worked great first time and I know I rebooted the phone multiple times last night with doing backups of the rom, etc. Maybe it somehow worked itself out or maybe it's just an intermittent thing. I didn't change anything since the install.

Phone mic voice too soft

My phone is giving me a problem in this area. When i talk on the phone (without using bluetooth or handsfree) people say i sound very far, or very soft. I've tried alot of different radios, and schaps diff versions. Including the latest 4.22ROM
Other then the rom itself i didn't install any other thing. But yet i'm still having this problem.
I've read in other topics that might be about setAcoustic.exe problem, but it doesnt' seem to solve my problem.
Anyone got any other suggestions? It's been causing me a big pain :
anyone know how to fix this??
update, it seems to be happening at random atm, some phone calls it's very clean, other it's too far..
hi, im having this same problem on my 8525. sometimes people can hear me and sometimes people can't hear me at all. any one else have this problem?
there was an old thread on this, search setAcoustic and you'll find it. if that fails , then i guess you can join me to wait for another solution
on the side note, bluetooth works nicely and i don't get any voice distortion or volume too soft.
Update:
So far things seems to be better atm, but it still happens. Sometimes while talking halfway, my signal can get very bad.. does this have to do with radio?
hey guys .... this is my first post here and i too am facing the exact same problem.... any solutuins? please HELP! (sorry for the caps)

Here's something to try the next time someone complains you sound far away/too soft: Switch over to your bluetooth handsfree without moving the phone. If you start sounding better then, I would guess that your built-in mic isn't working properly. You'd never know especially since you got it from eBay
Signal strength shouldn't matter too much, unless you start getting a marginal signal (say, one bar), and if that happens, try moving your head about (with your phone) - that should help the signal a little.

haha yeah, recently it seems to be working though, a few times people called me and said can't hear me but i called them back and it worked.
well just an update, nothing seems to be working for me.
Flashing to the latest schap's rom = not working
flasing to other radio versions = not working
Changing to non 3G network, same problem
i'm beginning to be convinced that it might be my phone hardware that's screwed up.
now i'm flashing back to original official dopod rom. see if that fixes things.
Update: While installing my officail dopod rom, i realize that the officail ones install alot more stuff into my Dopod.
Is this normal/ as per compared to schap's roms?
this is the 1st time i'm installing a WM6 official rom, does it make any diff? Everytime you reinstall a rom = kinda like format drive C and reinstalling windows right?
If startup animation is enabled, and set acoustic parameter is not ran. You will have low volume issue. It is Rom/WM related, not necessarily a hardware problem. My Rom ahs startup animation disabled, acoustic parameter is properly set.
Second that, I highly recommend u all try k's 1.30b rom!
how do you make sure acoustic parameter is properly set?
bump.. any one figure this out yet? im tired of texting i just want to talk on my phone hahah. ive come to the point that im gonna buy a razr.
hi all, just another update.
things was working very well for a long while while using K's rom, but now it's starting to happen again while i'm on k's rom.
setAcoustic Param is done (i read in K's rom it's set properly)
anyone got any other suggestions?
update: I've been reflashing a few diff roms, apparently all of them have the same problem, including K's one which i see setAcoustic running at 1st run.
I really have no clue why my voice is too soft. Now i'm flashing the official HTC one, hopefully it works...
anyone got any new info on this? i'm still having the same problem
if it is an hardware issue, is there anyway to figure if it is an hardware issue? or how do i open my phone?
just another update.
Now my voice fades in and out.. it's literally mood swings.. sometimes sounds good, other times sounds bad..
but i'm resorting to use wireless for now. it seems that wireless is more stable. there was 1 time which i was trying to talk on the phone's mic but the other party couldn't hear me, so i switched to wireless immediate on the same call and the other party could hear me immediately.
I've changed countless of roms already, the problem is still there regardless of what rom, official ones from HTC or others cooked in here, (schaps, k's, and many others) i can only assume that my mic is broken....
this i'm in malaysia and this is a orange phone.. i wonder if i can get any warrenty here at all.. or someone that knows how to repair this phone..
Hopefully this will be my last update
I've sent my phone for repairs. hardware wise, they say they fixed it. After that, my volume is pretty stable.
There are once or twice that my voice still went out, however, i found out that by disabling WOW HD Settings, it solved my problem too.
So far, i'm happy with my hermes

[Q] Bluetooth Issue

Have had my SG2S for about a month now. Everything works great except for the bluetooth.
In my wifes car ('09 BMW 3 series) and in my truck ('11 Ford F150) the phone connects perfectly when I get into the vehicles. The problem is during phone calls. In both vehicles, I get dropped at random from the vehicle during calls. I'm talking on the phone and poof, I'm kicked off. Sometimes I can pick up the phone to continue the call, sometimes there's nothing anywhere?!?
I've reset the phone, I've even changed the phone. The 'store' tells me that they have moved 'LOTS' of these phones and nobody has come back with this complaint. I've also read about manually reseting the bluetooth application in 'running services' in applications... no change there either.
PLEASE for my sanity... can somebody tell me what I'm missing!?!?
I've always had Blackberry's before and have NEVER had this issue.
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thx.
Anybody? Anybody??
Nobody else has had this issue?!?
Bluetooth on the SGS2 has "issues" in some cases.
If your phone is rooted you can try editing /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf and changing the "Master=False" line to "Master=True" then reboot which can help with dropouts.
You could also try just updating your firmware to the newest version you can, but Bluetooth support in Android 2.3 (and earlier obviously) is not very good.

Subaru Nav + ICS i777 users

I think this is the right forum to post. Please move if not, sorry mods.
Is anyone using an ICS ROM on their i777 with a Subaru navigation system and has Bluetooth streaming working properly? More specifically, are there any 2010+ Subaru Outback w/ Navigation users using ICS and having Bluetooth streaming working correctly?
If so, what year/model is your car? And what ROM/kernel are you using?
Mine works flawlessly in GB, but in any ICS ROM, streaming will start for a couple ms, you'll hear a fragment of the song, then it will pause for a second. My logs are showing a buffer issue in the BT stack. Is anyone else having the same problem?
I might have some time to get to the bottom of it, but if someone else has it working I'd like to hear that too.
I have Subaru BT audio disconnect issues also.
The disconnects happened with deep sleep on ICS, Shostock2 and AOKP roms.
I have found that keeping the charge cord plugged in will prevent deep sleep and avoid the disconnect.
My thread on this from a few months back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609686
Someone else posted a thread yesterday that was moved to Q+A about the same issues.
He claimed to avoid BT disconnects on CM9.
Subaru and Audi owners are the biggest groups complaining, so their BT stuff must be a little different from most.
I am using Tasker on Shostock2 to avoid the issue as posted in my thread.

This is different than the disconnect issue. This is a constant stutter. Basically, you hit play, you hear a couple ms of your track, then silence, repeat ad nauseum. During this, you see the head unit and phone flip from PLAY to PAUSE repeatedly. logcat shows a buffer issue in the bluetooth stack.
If you pause, then hit play, and repeat that for a while, it sometimes begins to function normally for the remainder of the BT connection. But the issue is ALWAYS present when first starting to play from a fresh BT connection.
My Subaru HU is made by Kenwood. That's why I asked for other similar models/years, since I could at least then do some research on what model Nav unit was being installed and figure something out from there. Unfortunately I don't know about Audis or I'd try to help there too.

Ok, I think the Subaru radio CD on my car was made by Clarion.
Definitely problems with the BT software somewhere.
Good luck

What year? And did you have that issue with a GB ROM, or only ICS?
I have the same bluetooth stutter issue with my 2011 Prius. I am running the stock ics rom. I would be very interested in hearing about an ics rom that does not have this problem.

Seemed to work on seridipity 9 from mikeymike. It is missing the volume up/down for changing tracks, so it is a deal breaker for me. He did a great job of de-touchwizing it.

My wife is running ShoStock2 3.0.4, and is experiencing dropped bluetooth connection on phone calls in her '12 Outback. I suspect it is due to the phone going into deep sleep, as she tried changing her screen timeout to keep the phone awake, and didn't get dropped calls. As with everyone else, waking the screen will re-establish the BT connection and the call will continue.
Prior to this issue coming up and digging into it, I didn't realize these phones would go into deep sleep while on a call, so that was an interesting piece of info for me.
Guess it's time for her to get tasker and learn how to use it.
Thanks for all the input/advice here on how to work around this guys!

What would be so unique about the car side that would cause the phone to timeout? I ask because I routinely have hour+ long conference calls over BT (Jabra Cuiser 2) and have never had a BT dropout - dropped calls yes (it is ATT afterall) but never a BT dropout.

Wish I knew. Hers is the only vehicle we have access to with built in BT,.so I don't have a way to test it on other setups. I'm not 100 percent positive the problem appeared after the change to an ics ROM, but I do not recall it ever happening when she was on GB. I believe, but am not certain, that the phone call over in car audio via BT is handled through an a2dp media connection with the car, rather than a more typical BT mono phone headset type of connection. I'm admittedly very unfamiliar with the specifics of BT connection stuff, so I may be talking out of my a$$ here. I do know that I've had no issues at all with my el cheapo BT headset on various ics roms...

AT&T HOX+ 1.19.502.1 Update... What's been your experience?

Alright, so I recently decided to upgrade my AT&T HTC ONE X+'s firmware to the latest 1.19.502.1 update. Ever since I got this phone, I've never really been 100% happy with it, so as soon as I saw an official update being rolled out I jumped at the chance! I re-flashed the original recovery, re-locked the bootloader and ran the HTC RUU pc executable, effectively putting my phone in a 100% stock state and fully updated.
So far I can say that the phone experiences less general app crashes than before. The Bluetooth Call audio quality issue is 100% fixed. It would also seem like the Google contacts syncing issue is gone too. AT&T Address Book app now works (I don't like it, I don't actively use it, but at least now it's a functioning app). And Power management & Battery life seemed to have improved ever so slightly.
On the other hand, the phone does seem a bit slower (apps take longer to load, some phone functions take a little bit longer to react, stuff like that). The distorted streaming via Bluetooth (A2DP) bug (not the same issue as the call audio) is still un-addressed. I've always experienced random Bluetooth connection interruptions, and with the update this hasn't changed. Another thing I was hopeful they would fix with the update and they didn't is the Automatic Time Zone option in the Date & Time settings menu (It will often not recognize my time zone - GMT -4:00 - forcing me to set it manually... no big deal, but still a bug none the less). There were no GUI/UI changes or improvements whatsoever. Also, I like to use Nova Launcher Prime, and for whatever reason I've found myself pressing the "back" button to exit some apps and it would return me to the Sense home instead of the Nova Launcher home (which is set as my default launcher). That last one is no big deal, but thought I should mention it just in case.
What about you guys? What has been your experience with it? Did you update OTA or through the RUU? Share your experiences here!
the only thing i needed from the update was fixing BT A2DP audio. Like you said, it is still broken. Highly disappointed. Hopefully a ROM will fix it soon.
The update broke a bunch of apps for me. Chrome, Google Search, and Google Drive no longer work, they crash on startup.
Other people have similar complaints, here: forums.att.com/t5/Android-Discussion-and-Support/HTC-One-X-update/td-p/3469653
This is a stock phone. So far the phone is pretty unusable without those apps.
Really annoying. AT&T hasn't said anything about it yet. Maybe I should contact HTC directly?

You can try to contact HTC directly, but from what I've read around in the forums, they aren't much help. Allow me to suggest you try running the RUU on your phone (you can download it from http://www.htc.com/us/support/news.aspx?p_id=529&p_name=htc-one-x-plus-att ). It'll fully wipe it, so make a backup of all your important stuff (contacts if they aren't cloud synced, pictures, Angry Birds scores, etc) and then run the RUU. After the initial setup, re-download/install all your main apps and see how that goes. If you do get to do this, please post here if there was a difference in your phone's behavior. (Hope that helps)
I really honestly haven't had any issues with my phone since the OTA update... I still lag on playing a simple 2D game Drag Racing" but runs butter smooth when playing 3D games.. WTH?.. Really annoying to me... but then again, it lags even when I'm using my Nexus 7, yet runs lag-free and smooth on my Pantech Burst? Explain that one.. lol..
But all in all I've noticed a lot of small enhancements with the update. Now if they can just fix the game play of Drag Racing app.. lol..
I haven't noticed anything significant either way. If I didn't do the update myself, I don't think I would know there had been one. I do have to say that I never experienced problems playing music over BT, and I use it in my car, at home, and with BT earbuds. Maybe it's because I'm using PowerAmp.

The problem is still there with poweramp. It is a bitpool setting for connection between the phone and BT speaker devices. Some people just don't hear it even though it is there. I have a few friends who are now on JB thanks to recent updates and they have the same issues but they don't seem to hear it. I can hear it plainly though. One of them I could get to hear it but he doesn't care and thinks it sounds good enough for him.

Well, I haven't tried that particular game, but try this and let me know if it works for you. Go to Settings\Developer Options\Advanced\Force GPU Rendering, and turn it on.
Disappointing feedback. I work from home and have a Plantronics Savi 700 series headset. My HOX+ is connected to the Savi via Bluetooth, and if I make/receive a call on my HOX+ the call skips/distorts for the first 5 seconds or so before stabilising. Is that a known issue?
EDIT: to clarify, I am not using the headset when making/receiving the call in my example.. it's merely just connected via Bluetooth at the time I use my cell phone.

That hasn't been my experience receiving calls (although making them, the first ring does sound louder and coarser than the rest) but there have been some posts here on the forum from people describing a similar issue (since way before the update). Apparently it's either an inconsistent issue, a bug that only affected a few handsets, or an accessory hardware specific issue (eg. compatibility issue with specific bluetooth devices).

When u say BT audio A2DP that to ke means audio controls over BT. Well this has always worked from the start for me on stock and now custom roms. Now if I use a "wired" headset then no, audio controls do not work. All I can do is deal with phone calls and play/pause music. Cannot turn volume up or down or change tracks while using a wired headset. This from my understanding is a "hardware" issue. Now as far as actual BT is concerned, every aspect has worked perfect for me since Steve007 has fixed it for us. Also it has been claimed the new ATT update fixes this BT audio quality issue to an even higher degree than what Steve did so ultimate BT fix now on new ATT update.
So what is the BT audio problem now still not working?

What you're referring to are Media and Call control over bluetooth (First part of your statement) and Bluetooth Call Audio specifically (second part of your statement. This is what Steve007's fix addresses and the new update fixes). The bug badtlc and I mentioned is specifically when streaming Music or Video Audio through bluetooth (basically any type or audio that isn't phone call related). The audio streams just fine, but with a nasty distortion in the high frequencies. Many people just don't seem to mind the distorted sound because they just don't seem to identify it. If you compare the Bluetooth audio quality vs the direct audio quality (like with an Aux cable) you will hear a noticeable difference.
bluetooth volume level issue after upgrade
I've been having the issue of too low volume on bluetooth calls in my car since the upgrade to 1.19.502.1 I used the RUU from HTC site to do the upgrade and reinstalled everything. I have to literally turn up the bluetooth volume all the way up in my car and the people on the other end complain that I'm not loud enough. Did anyone else notice anything like this?
The first time I did the OTA on a stock, locked, not rooted HOX+ I noticed some improvments, I'm not really sure might have been placebo effect, but it did break my Wi-Fi. It would stay stuck on "Turning on Wi-Fi" the slider would be slid to the on side, but say off and be grey and unaccessable. Well I had to get it replaced under warranty, the headset speaker was dead too but that happened before the update, and it came with 1.15 and I want to know how common of a problem my experience was I know of at least a couple people who have had the same thing and I'm not sure I want to try the update again on this one and have to go through replacing it again.

The official updates from HTC never wipe anything from the device. They just UpDate the OS. There might brake an app and very rarely, but that's just when changing the SW version, due to app incompatibility with the new OS vers. That's just my experience with HTC over the last few years and the last few devices.
Best of luck.

Bluetooth Skipping on 23B

i have flashed back to 10B several times, updated to 23b three times and every time i have my bluetooth skipping, while listening to Pandora or any music really in my truck. Just want to know if i am alone on this one or is anyone else experiencing it. If i pause the music for a few seconds, its plays, then stops, like its buffering. Any help is appreciated.

I believe I've seen other people mention bluetooth issues in another thread in these sections, but I don't remember exactly where. Search for bluetooth and maybe you'll find it, hopefully easily.

After doing a little troubleshooting, I've narrowed it down to just the radio in my truck..every other Bluetooth radio I have works fine. I'll wait till we get a final OTA I guess..

You Know i am also wondering if the issue may be coming from what version of bluetooth those other devices use i know that my alpine in my car uses v3.0 of bluetooth and it has the issue but the i home speaker i have no skips at all.
I have the same problem with my Pioneer AVH 4500Bt in my MDX. What is funny is when my wife and I were in NYC yesterday, I had her sync her IPhone 6 to my radio and the problem continued. I played my phone with a pair of Bluetooth headphones today with no skips. This problem is weird.

The radio in my truck is a Pioneer FH-x700BT...plays my M8 on lollipop fine, but something with this version on the G3 doesn't agree. Hopefully the next OTA fixes something

Finding this post has finally convinced me to sign up and participate. Long time lurker...
I have the same problem and have been working on hunting this down.
I have a pioneer deh-80ors receiver with the vs985.
On 12b and previous bluetooth works great but everything after that introduces the problem.
The audio plays normally for 15-45 seconds regardless of the app used, then drops for a second, plays for a second in a hurried mess and repeats until the receiver is restarted or bluetooth is disabled on the phone and reconnected.
I have tried a handful of roms for lollipop without success (I do like skydragon though - nice and lean with the termal mod).
If I flash back to OEM 12b using kdz everything works great. If I load an old rom like jasmine 4 it works great. I have tried enabling and disabling all settings from the hidden menu for bt_test with no results other than it occasionally not working at all.
I have read reports of people turning off the call audio from the bluetooth pairing with mixed results, using an app from the manufacturer of the deck (which doesn't work here since pioneer connect was released like two years ago), disabling driving mode (for the S2 and S3), and all kinds of other snake oil. Based on the fact it works fine with the OEM revision up to the one before lollipop leads me to believe it's some problem with lollipop directly. I'm confident it's not the bluetooth drivers or firmware as flashing between major releases resulted in the modem being broken (intermittent LTE) but the same bluetooth issues. That is, unless the BT drivers are built into the release and are specific to each one in which case replacing the new drivers in a more modern ROM with the old ones may work.
The worst part is that most decks don't work with droid devices nearly as well as apple anyway, if we could just plug them in over usb I would be ok with that. Unfortunately the receiver doesn't even see the thing and no manner of apps or settings changes I could do ever got that working either. If anyone has gotten a usb audio connection working (preferably without USB Audio Pro App which is the one that most people like) I would love some input.
