Hey guys,
I just wanted to share this because it might help someone. I bought the extended battery directly from Verizon because I wanted more autonomy and at first it worked as expected.
Over time though, I noticed that my phone stuggled with 4G and would switch to 3G most of the time, and when it stayed on 4g, it wouldn't really work. The browser would start loading and then be stuck at 80% for ever.
With new kernels available, I figured I should give the regular battery a test drive to see how it performs and I was surprised to see that my 4G problems went away.
I had noticed that my extended battery cover was getting very loose and I'm guessing that the contacts for the antenna weren't working properly anymore because I had to remove that cover so many times to do a battery pull.
It also seems that the regular cover that came with the phone has a lot more metal circuits in the cover so perhaps the regular cover works as a better antenna than the extended battery cover.
In any case, it worked for me. I would get 1x or 3g on a good day at the office and right now I'm listening to Pandora over 4g with no network shortage. So if you do have network issues with the extended battery cover, see if the regular cover helps, it did for me.
I think it is a hit or miss, my cover is great. Tight and works well.
Extended battery is great. Still creaks though.
I just decided to use my extended and I don't even get 4g. It was a cheap one so i could care less. Never had 4g in the area when I first bought it so never noticed it.

If your good with a sodering iron you can superglue and soder a piece of aluminum(tin foil or cut up pop can) on the inside of the extended back cover attached to the gold leads.. it'll strengthen the antenna. It worked previously in the past for me I just went back to using two stock batteries with an external lith-ion charger to keep me always up with at least one full battery no matter what.

I have always assumed the extended cover provides inferior reception of wifi and cell due to smaller antennas.
Over the years I never purchased Verizon's accessories like chargers. Verizon would buy the cheapest available that would work. Instead I purchased accessories made by the phone manufacturer.
On the other hand I got my Verizon extended battery and back free when I purchased this phone and it does seem to work okay. I assume the HTC cover works better.
I am currently using the standard htc cover cut for extended battery in a cut otterbox defender case.
Btw my rezound gets far more wifi signal bars at home compared to my Motorola Droid X.
thanks, more reason for me to keep my standard cover & battery

Well, first of all, the extended battery Verizon sells is the HTC battery and cover...they just repackage it in a Verizon branded box. Second, the Verizon branded car charger is by far the best car charger I've ever had. We have three of them because we replaced all of our other ones that were complete junk.
Inthe extended battery cover, the antennas in it are the exact same size and shape, and are in the exact same locations. If you just glance at it, you might think otherwise, but if you take a second to study it, you can clearly see why it looks different. Instead of being the bare gold colored antenna wires, they are futher coated with some kind of protective coating that makes them the same color of black as the cover. However, if you hold them in the light and study them, you can see the shape of the antenna inside the coating, and it's the same as the standard.
Anecdotally, I can say that there is no difference in reception between the standard and extended battery cover for me, and I am in a situation where I would notice it. My house gets awful signal, barely one bar in most places, and switching to the extended battery didn't change that at all. If it actually got worse reception, then I would not get reception at home.

I bought that Mugen slim extended battery, it is ever so slightly thicker and stops the creaking in the factory battery cover.

Strike, you are right!
There is some kind of black coating in the same areas where the standard cover has its antennas. These are not the exact same shape, but very close. Thanks for telling me about it.
Btw I stopped buying verizon chargers in my flip phone days. They did work, looked cheap, and cost more than buying genuine oem on the Internet . It is possible verizon chargers are better now.
I can attest to the standard battery cover not working any better than the extended one. At home, I seemingly get the same number of bars on WiFi, 3G and 4G and the same speeds with either cover. At work in the office, I still get spotty reception at best, with occasional drops to 1x or no data.
Perhaps I damaged my extended battery case then because I tried again and I definitely get way worse connection with it. I did take it off and put it back on a LOT and it's to the point where it's really loose so perhaps the phone connections don't make good contact with it.
I'm not too worried though because with the new kernels, the battery lasts longer and I can put a case on again without making my phone look like a brick.
I'd like to see some pictures of that!

I hope bumping an old thread is better than creating a new one.
I'm having awful 4G connectivity issues. My phone doesn't drop to 3G, the "Quick Settings" shows Mobile Network into "Connecting" then "On" then back to "Connecting" and etc. etc.
I have dropped my phone in the past, so could it be the case, but what about the SIM card? I'm still on GB, is that possibly the problem?

I agree on the verizon car charger. It charges much faster than any other car charger I have used. Even on my galaxy nexus.
Didn't read much but I'm pretty sure the antennas in the ext bat cover are exactly the same as the standard one. I haven't had any reception issues, never have.
The first cover I got with the battery was loose and would halfway pop off on the side that doesn't have the charge port. I exchanged it at Verizon for one that fit pretty good but now it's creeks on that side and it's kind of annoying. I'd exchange it but I think it's past the return date or will be in a few days (if it's 30 days) actually I should check that because the store is a mile and a half from me lol. Ridiculous to me that a 50 dollar battery and cover has fit issues (Yay HTC -_-) . Not to mention how ugly and awkward it is in the hand. Ugh and it's annoying how it rocks on the table. But the battery life is awesome.. 2 days of use now with normal use for me on 4G lol...
Edit: also I cut one the back of one of my silicone cases out to fit the battery door. Feels better that way, went through two to get it just right... I actually prefer the girth and weight added. (heh)

****AFTER SOME USAGE I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS CASE DUE TO SUB-PAR PERFORMANCE******
I received my Droidax case today and first impression is the case is made very well. It has a 1650mAh battery built in so you are doubling your battery life and protecting your phone the same time. I made a quick YouTube video of the case and have attached a few pictures below. The case makes the phone maybe 3/8 inch longer but when you compare it to the outer box commuter case its only 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch thicker. I tried to show this in the pictures below. Hopefully you can see it. I will report back on the battery life after some use. I'm really liking the looks of the case. I think it looks much nicer than the Samsung version that's out there and its like half the price.

I am really digging on this! I like the 2 piece case design which makes it easier to remove the phone. Couple of questions:
1. It looks like the top and bottom mics are covered? I didnt see any holes.
2. Do you know if the phone can still be synced via USB with the cover on?
I had something like this for my iPhone. The major issue, as opposed to switching out to a larger battery, is that a lot of the charge "disapates" in the transfer process from the pack's microUSB to the phonel. Under optimal conditions, you're probably getting 60-75% of the pack's capacity.

Yup, I had the Mophie Juicepack Air for my iphone 3gs and I would get approximately 75% more charge. Though not optimal, is is still way better than not having the extra power.

Yes the instructions say the case will actually use 25% of the batteries power to charge the phone so in essence you are getting 75% of a 1650 mAh battery or if you let the phone run down to 25% you can then turn the case on and charge the phone back to a 100% in theory. Unlike the Mophie Juice Pack this case will actually stop charging the phone once it hits 100%. The case at this point shuts off. Not as much waste. The Mophie would continuously charge the iPhone until it would run dead.
The big push around here has been the 2000mAh battery with cover and then a case to protect it all. That's a lot of $$$$. This case is only $50 with free shipping. $12 to the US for over night FedEx and your getting the case to protect and an additional 1650mAh in battery power.

Hey, just got this case. So far I do like the feel. I had a casemate which provided a lot of protection and the kick-stand (which I did not actually use much). The casemate was pretty large/heavy so moving to the Droidax is not much different other than now I have a lot more battery time!
Will have to see how it goes over time but so far so good. The one thing for people to consider is that this case does not provide any protection for the front of the phone (unlike the casemate)! If you drop your phone face down (especially if it slides) there will be damage to the screen I would think. Other than that not a bad case.

Glad you like it. As far as the screen, after watching some drop tests the s2 definitely outperforms the iPhone 4s. I would agree with you though. I do like it when the case wraps around the front a bit.

I am new to this forum so I can't post a link yet.
I purchased it a few weeks ago for my At&t S2. It works great! When at home on the weekends my battery only goes down to about 70% by the end of the day, before it usually dropped to around 30-40%. Although the battery fits perfect the new cover was made to fit only the Korean version of the phone. I used an xacto knife and trimmed the interfering catches on the sides of the new cover so it fit in place. The end catches of the cover still fit. I then placed the phone in a TPU case which fit perfect without any budges or stretches. Actually feels better to handle and still weighs 8 grams less than my old iPhone 4.

Looking at the pictures it seems that the new battery cover is every so slightly larger. Is that true?
Yes, the Korean battery cover makes the back of the phone flat instead of dipped at the bottom. Also recesses the camera window slightly which is good to protect it. Same texture on the new cover as the original one. It's too bad Samsung didn't make the catches the same on both covers.
The battery works w/o reboots when charging via USB?
So, does it say "Near Field Communication" on the back of the battery like the original 1650maH one?
I have an extra 2000 mAH NFC battery for sale. PM me.
The Korean 2000ma battery does say NFC on the back and I have not noticed any reboots when connected to my PC. I actually don't connect via USB very much, just use Kies air which works good.

Would you say that the back would have no problem staying on if you didn't use a case? I have the car dock and a case won't fit, but I think the battery would. Thanks.
I have not tried to carry the phone without the external case. Mine won't fall off but doesn't require much effort to pop it off with a finger nail. I would be uneasy to use the Korean back without the external case. I did have to give up my home charger base because of using the external TPU case, but I felt it was justified by the extra protection provided by the case.
I have a Ballistic SG case on my phone. Would this battery possibly still fit?

So I got the Battery today, the battery cover doesn't fit perfectly. I had to get a buffer and do it to both sides of the insertion cover (left + right) for it to be "snugly", though I went overboard on the right side and it's pretty ugly if you look in between the cracks.

Sounds far less than ideal. :-(
The less than perfect fit on the battery cover was not an issue for me. I knew of the issue before ordering the battery. What was important was extended battery life and I wanted to put the phone in a light weight case anyway. The TPU case was a perfect fit and affords a better grip then no case. I am running JuiceDefender in auto mode with a very stock AT&T phone. Bluetooth and wifi are always on and two imap email accounts. On work days I'm usually down to around 70% by night, weekends typically 80% left. I use the phone only on a moderate level, no game playing or videos. Just nice to know I have plenty of reserve left just in case I need a heavy use for a few hours.

Juice defender is so crippling. If you're only using 20-30% all day with JD enabled, why bother? Might as well unleash your phone's full potential, and let it do it's thing. You may only have 20-30% remaining at the end of the day, but as a non-power user, why do you bother using JD? Are you OCD like me and hate seeing less than 75% battery remaining? LOL
It fits perfect now, and it's still thinner and lighter than the original Galaxy S (Captivate)!

haven't noticed any drop in reception so far with the extended battery, or squeaking. Will keep an eye out for it.
Also, did a side by side comparison in the verizon store of the nexus and my rezound and the rezound blew away the nexus in a speed test. Both were on 4g with full bars.
The door does squeak a bit. I have 2 external batt covers, and both do the same thing. The external cover has the same copper but the antenna isnt exposed like on the standard cover. I get equal reception with standard and the extended cover.
For me the squeak of the door is a non issue since I always keep the VZ extended battery holster case on the phone. Minus the holster half.
I cut a business card in half and placed it on top of the battery. It makes the cover just slightly tighter and does help with the squeaks/rattling.
Did you cut it to the size of the battery??

No offense but, that thing is hideous. It takes less than 30 seconds to swap out a battery. For $80 you could buy the OEM charging station (includes OEM battery) + 2 spare OEM batteries. You would in effect have 10,000mah of battery power at your disposal.

Don't buy it. I had an extended battery on my Captivate that had a hump too and I hated it. I would just rather have the whole door be big then just the bottom part.
That is my opinion of course.

They designed it that way to keep NFC intact. Look at the backdoor of your Note and will see two contact points on the NFC antenna that need to make contact with two contact points next to the microsd card slot. NFC compatible extended batteries on eBay have the same design. Also might explain why Mugen is taking so long with their variant because they could not find a work around.
However, that battery might fit with one of the non NFC compatible back covers on eBay. So you could sacrifice NFC for a better look with the extended battery.

I had one of these type bateries for my blackberry storm...same crappy backing same lump. Only case u could buy was their case lol
Not only is the battery expensive but it makes your phone ugly as sin. The phone is big enough but when you add this battery it turns it into a brick. Don't know why anyone would buy this.
Seidios next project, the 10,000 battery.

lmao!
I would love this battery. The only reason I havent purchased it yet is because I cant find a damned case that will accommodate it. I could give 2 ****s about NFC or the size of my phone (in fact i have always used extended batteries and I think it makes me drop them less). Does anybody know whether there is a case for our ATT version that fits around the camels hump?

I have one of these extended batteries on my Note. I also had one on my Blackberry before I switched to the Note. I require a long runtime with my phones, and I am not going to carry multiple batteries around with me to do so. Tried that with the BB, and hated it, and went the extended battery route.
So...I agree with the previous post about the battery door being stupid looking.
When I bought the extended battery (from ebay), I received a door for an international version of the note. I knew that was what I was getting since the extended battery door for the LTE version was not out yet, but I wanted to see if I could make it fit somehow. I also was aware that NFC would not work with the new door, and didn't care, since I haven't found a need for it yet.
I got the battery and international door in. battery fit fine, but door did not. I tried trimming the tabs a little and was able to make it fit, but not *lock* in place like the door should. The company I bought the extended battery from said they would send me the LTE door when they got them in, (that is another reason I was willing to try all of this).
I got the LTE door in. Yes, it is ugly. I like the style of the international door MUCH better. I am using the LTE door for now. Battery life on this "cheap" 5000 battery has been awesome. Previously, I was getting only about 6 hours per charge. Now, I am getting 10-12, which gets me through my day. No...it probably isn't a true 5000 battery, but for $12, and a company willing to work with me on the door, I was happy to try it out, and I am happy.
As for protection for the phone with an exteneded battery door, I have this coming in:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120841214598?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I am hoping that this will give some slight bumper protection but allow the battery bump to stick out. It only surrounds the very edge of the phone, not over the speaker like some of them do, which won't work.
Ok...to make this post even longer....
Anyone know of an extended battery door that looks like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-GT-N7000-Extended-Capacity-Replacement/dp/B006W4JNZ6
that will work on the US LTE? I know it won't have the NFC antenna, but I don't care. I just want one that is shaped like that instead of the ugly bump one I have now.

Local cobbler appears to have seen this thread a +1ed your comment. Says he won't have his name attached to something so likely hideous. He did apologize though and offer me a free shoelace in consolation. :/ I guess I will never have a case that fits over the extended battery for this phone. Maybe someone with some milling tools could make me an aluminum shark cage for it. Hmmmm.

ATT 5200 mAh all over ebay, but.....
No kickstand so still have to buy a cover which will then make our Note truly as big as a brick........Need the kick stand for as much video as I watch on my Note.
That thing has Girth!
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

Can you post a link to the battery you are talking about?
The Seidio cover does not even come in white Even if it was not ugly.

Hello all. A friend of mine developed this new car dock for the Note 3, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy S4. I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy for my GS3 and found it to be the best dock I have ever used. I purchased one for my Note 3 and I did an unboxing. Please give it a look. Thanks

This looks like everything I want, except I wonder about the aluminum back plate. I wonder if it interferes with radio reception at all, as every aluminum case I have used before has. Granted, this is nothing more than a backplate, not an entire wrap around case.
The only option that could possibly make this even better is the option to get an extended backplate for extended batteries...
Thanks for the link
I love it but am sporting a UAG case that has saved me a few times already. Nice work though.

I'm also using the cover for the Note 3 and I've checked the impact of the aluminium plate with apps like 'Network Signal Strength' and have not been able to find any negative impact.

Hi Ed, I have not noticed a drop in signal but I have not done a switch of the back plate while sitting in several places to test the signal. I would be interested to know if the aluminum on the back has any impact on signal. I would think not because it doesn't wrap around the sides.

Hi Q9.
Radio waves tend to bend around any metal quite well. I expect that is why Mountr has combined ABS/PC with aluminium and designed the aluminium part in such a way that there is enough free space for the radio waves to bend around the plate.
You can search for the app 'Network Signal Strength' in the Play store to get an app that helps you get proper readings of the actual signal strength. Let me know if you come up with different findings.
This is not an inductance charger. There are pins in the mount that hits a ring on the back.
Also there is no nfc in the back, but without a QI coil in the back maybe the battery nfc still works. Doubtful very well with a aluminum back.
I think the $40 wireless auto mount and a $20 samsung QI back is better.

I'm not sure anyone thought it was, but I guess it's still "wireless", and the OP didn't say anything about induction.
Having a Qi coil on my battery, I use wireless inductive charging for home, often. In the car it would not be as practical, I don't think. Since Qi charging is very under powered, and since we tend to use our phones in the car with navigation, calling, music, etc, I'm doubting any Qi charger would be able to actually stay ahead of the use. (I could be wrong here, but with my Qi pads used in my car, it was useless)
This charger posted above uses the next best idea. And that is why I like it. Maybe not enough to spend that kind of dough on it, but it is a good idea.
I'd like to here for sure if the NFC works, but I betting it does.
It could be even better if it had support for aftermarket cases.
All that being said, if I saw it sold for $40.00 or less, I'd give it a try.
I am using the airdock in my car. It works good. Except I cant use a case with it since the magnet and the suction isn't strong enough to hold it up.
That's my only issue at the moment with it. In my line of work, cases are a priority. Without them, you mine as well not carry it. When/if this idea enables case usage, I will be all over it like white on rice.

Good news, Mountr recently dropped prices significantly in their web store.
Any idea if the will make one for a Note 4?
