I read Intratech's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 Page 1 for more than 5 times and I "think" I know how to execute the steps to restore my GT-I9100M just like the 1st day I got it. (since I'm a newbie, I wasn't allowed to post my questions there!)
Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100M
Country/Carrier: Canada Bell Mobility
Product Code: GT-I9100LKABMC
Latest firmware: I9100MUGLD3/I9100MBMCLD3/I9100MUGLD3/I9100MUGLD3
Build number: IML74K.UGLD3
Android version: 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
PDA: I9100MUGLD3
CSC: I9100MBMCLD3
Phone: I9100MUGLD3
Build date: April 19,2012 15:39:18 KST
I downloaded GT-I9100M_BMC_ICS_4.0.3_I9100MUGLD3_I9100MBMCLD3_I9100MUGLD3_Original.zip twice from two places (one from http://www.sammobile.com) and using MD5 checker, they are identical.
The zip file has only two files 1)I9100MUGLD3_I9100MBMCLD3_I9100MXXLD3_HOME.tar.md5 file and 2) SS_DL.dll
1) Now I just need confirmation that since it's only one tar.md5 file, I only need to use the PDA as in this http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg and I can forget about http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg, correct?
2) Do I use Odin 1.85 or Odin 3.07?
3) From reading various threads, it seems like one must install Samsung Kies in order for Odin to work?
Thanks in advance.

yes just put that file in pda section, you can forget about the second link, use odin 1.85, it is recommended to have samsung kies, and remember do NO pull usb cable in the middle of the process

1. You only need to use the PDA.
- Your first image is correct and you can ignore image 2
2. Use the lower version of Odin first. 1.85 has always worked for me.
3. You need to install kies first, which installs your Phone's drivers but you must know that:
- kies runs in background even after you exit it.
- kies is not a friend to Odin
So to be very safe, do this:
a. Install kies, then
b. Connect your phone to pc, it will install all the drivers
c. Disconnect phone from pc
d. Uninstall kies (kies will be uninstalled, but the drivers will still be installed in your Pc)
e. Reboot pc
f. Now you can safely flash via Odin
Good luck

I don't have kies & i still use odin.. Anyways if you're doing it forst time i Recommend you installing kies...
And it dont mattet much whether you have ¹ firmware file or 3 file package their work is same... Happy Flashing... xD
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

The only reason to have kies is for default installation of Samsung usb drivers... The same can be done without kies too as the drivers are easily available for download.
Thanks sanjayshah_cs, Jokesy, Omaxe and WhoIsJohnGalt1979, you guys are a helpful bunch:good:!
I hope after doing this, all remaining leftover files from Root_SuperSU.0.95.Only-signed.zip, busybox and galaxy s unlock by helroz will be wiped from my phone and I'll redo them again.
Thanks again and have a great day!
It does not matter which version of Odin you will use. It will work both on 1.85 and 3.07.

Hi Guys,
My Galaxy S2 came with KE7 I bought it in the UK and it's not branded to any network, I flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4 and then the stock kernel and all was good.
A while later I tried to flash the clockworkmod from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693 ... that flashed OK but I couldn't get into the CWM recovery so I flashed the CF-Root back.
The recovery menu now works, but I still have the warning triangle on boot (I have tried reflashing the stock kernel again). This in itself doesn't bother me too much - I did this a month or 2 ago.
I've been told by someone that there is an upgrade available via Kies, however when connecting the phone Kies on Windows just tries to connect for ages and then gives up. (I have disabled USB debugging). Not that it should be relevant but I have previously removed Kies.apk, KiesAir.apk and kieswifi.apk using g-script but I put these back before trying to do this.
My phone currently reports:
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKE4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
Looking at these values, is the mix of XX and XW correct? (It's possible that I might have downloaded the wrong CF-root version the second time)
All I would really like to do is get the official version Samsung version and then root the phone. I believe that the Kies upgrade would still keep all applications.
Any help would be much appreciated.
You can find official, stock roms in the development threads

Thanks.
I've seen the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 but I'm not sure which is the correct stock firmware for me.
Given the other issues I've described above I'm a bit 'concerned' that I've already done something wrong :S
EDIT:Re-editting my post cos Im blind and cant read good
Sorry dude I got all screwed-up there I have ta apolagize.Anyway you can download the one i told you and all will be cool as its a UK+Europe generic as stated and its XWKF3 but you are indeed on KE7 and you will find it here

its XWKE7 ,Build Date 18/05/2011 generic XEU

its a kernel flash via odin that takes, from hitting the start button, about 10 seconds to complete. It roots and puts CWM on your phone. The kernel you want is one of the first ones (xx-xeu-ke7).You Cant go wrong its all explained.
EDIT: You can also check to see if it really is unbranded by checking your product code by typing this number and checking the last 3 letters of your code *2767*4387264636#
Thanks very much. The PCode I have is GT-I9100LKAXEU.
I'm going to try the latest KI3 and see how that goes, failing that I'll reflash the I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1 I've just got (I note that this lists KE4 and KE7 in the filename, which does match the version I currently have).
The important part about your code is the XEU which is your local CSC.this is recognized by kies when you connect. The first thing Kies does when you connect is rcognize this code to identify the phone and look for the appropriate firmware update. When you flash a new firmware if its not official obviously kies wont understand it cos it doesnt register.Your Product Code says your phone is a UK model (XEU) so for example if you flash an official firmware and by default the phone sets KOR then kies has 2 conflicting CSCs and thus might decide not to connect. If you want your phone to work properly on kies then when you flash an official FW make sure you have XEU selected as your CSC marking *#272*(IMEI)# this will then reboot your phone although its always good to do a factory rest too.Do this anyway although not on an official FW as it might not always set the CSC to your area so it pays to check.
This is what Kies looks at for an upgrade .

When I read in various forums, I read that many have the ability to update their phone to 2.3.5. I'm still running with 2.3.3 and examine every day there's a new update. I connect my phone to Kies or I put the phone to see whether there is a software update - but no.
What is it that makes some can update and others can not?
My phone was purchased without subscription to any mobile operator.
Short answer:
KIES is crap.
Slightly longer answer:
For some reason this software is unreliable. I had exactly the same problem when I wanted to flash a stock rom back on my phone. I got the oldest one available on the Web and wanted to update it using KIES. But it didn't work.
My suggestion:
Find the update you're waiting for here on xda and flash it with Odin.

Is it equally safe to use Odin, and how do I ensure that it is the real "file" I use -
If you follow the instructions it works safely. The best is to compare the screenshot on the thread with your actual window before flashing. Odin has some features you don't want to use like the "pit-file". However it's said multiple times that you should never flash it unless strictly told to do so, what stock firmwares don't.
So just check everything twice and you're good to go.
You know whether you have the right update if you have a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
So unless you live in India, a firmware with the Indian letter-code is wrong for you.
Just get the most recent, official one available for you region, read the instructions carefully and forget about KIES. KIES needs longer to recognize my phone than Odin needs to update it. I think that reason is enough to uninstall KIES and use Odin instead.

How to Upadate
a site www.sammobile.com has all the latest official ROMs for all the Samsung phones. These ROMs do not require rooting or anything. Though these are "official" they might not be perfect by they offer the latest Samsung has to offer.
I never update with Kies. Learn to use Odin. Usually, the ROMs on www.sammobile.com have the appropriate version of ODIN attached as well as any PIT file that is necessary.
Spend some time learning how to flash with ODIN. I've flashed both my Samsung phones 10s of times with no problem whatsoever.
The great thing about buying an international version of the Samsung phones is that there are software updates at least monthly and sometimes twice a month (posted on sammobile.
Samsung got a bad rap for being slow to update it's software a couple years ago. That has changed. I consider them the best now and buy Samsung Phones over HTC primarly for this reason.
I have install "Android CSC Select" and the only one I can see is "XEF", is this because I have en international firmware in my phone right now ?
I'm from Denmark sow why can't I see the NEE for scandinavian ?
I am very unsure about which file I need when I update with "odin" ..
Is there a good and safe program that allowsme to take a backup of the firmware I have now so I can use if all goes wrong?

There are, but they require root-permissions to run.
As for the firmware. Take a look at your system information, at which firmware you have installed right now.

I took the time to install and test both firmwares (the one you have right now and the one I think to be the proper one for you now) on my Phone.
Worked nicely.
Here is what firmware I took and why:
Your "Baseband Version" is:
I9100XXKG1
Your "Kernel Version" is:
blah....I9100XWKG1...blah
And your "Sales Code" is:
XEF
This is the following firmware on Intratech's thread:
XWKG1
Firmware info
PDA:XWKG1
PHONE: XXKG1
Date: 05/07/2011
Android 2.3.3
XEF (France): "Downloadlink you would use..."
Click to collapse
The updated firmware is this one:
XWKJ1
Android 2.3.5
This package has: PDA: XWKJ1| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: "Downloadlink for the first file"
Click to collapse
Note that it has the "XEU" Sales Code instead of the "XEF" Sales Code.
However, if you scroll down you can see:
Individual CSC Packages
...blah
XEF CSC (XEFKE2): "Downloadlink for the second file..."
Click to collapse
So what you do is:
Download the first file (.exe ~ 276mb)
Download the second file (.exe ~ 14,9mb)
Extract them both (you get a ~ 539mb .tar.md5 and a ~ 33mb .tar file)
Make sure KIES does not run (not in the tray as well)
Put your Galaxy S2 in download mode and confirm that you know what you're doing
Start Odin and connect your phone
Click on "PDA" and select the ~ 539 mb ".tar.md5"-file
Click on "CSC" and select the ~ 33 mb ".tar"-file
Make sure that only the following 4 checkboxes are checked (Auto Reboot; F. Reset Time; PDA, CSC)
Wait until "ID:COM" has an entry and becomes yellow (entry like: 0:[COM12])
Click on "Start" and wait untill it finishes
Disconnect your phone once it reboots
Report back if it works
The links to the 2 files I should download does not work.
What is the reason that I also need to install a CSC file (I'm just curious)? and the files you reference makes it possible to run my phone in Danish?
You find them in Intratech's thread I posted earlier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
The CSC is the contry specific code and contains info for your mobile network. To keep it simple, just flash both. Otherwise you'd have to set up your mobile network manually.
PS:
I ran both firmwares on danish when I tested them.
First file:
http://www.multiupload.com/QYQLC8KGJ8
Second file:
http://www.multiupload.com/1TCEUGSFKA
Before I start I would like to hear whether you use a backup program that makes it easy to restore programs and settings after the opdate ?
You don't need to wipe data (at least I didn't and the settings weren't reset). So you shouldn't have any problems. You're not flashing an entirely different rom, just an updated version of the same.
I don't know, doesn't KIES have some sort of backup function? Besides that your contacts, calender and google-mail can be synced with your google-account.
Anyway, if you want proper backups, you'll need to root you phone.

Hi.. I'm very new to this and just got an unlocked Crazy Johns GS2:
- GT-I9100T, version 2.3.3
- PDA DU-KH1

- CSC VAU-KG2, 11 Aug '11
Is it possible to get Kies to see my phone as unbranded and for a region (eg. Poland?) where Samsung has officially released version 2.3.5, so I can update via Kies (rather than risking Odin, flashing and maybe voiding warranty) - for example by changing the CSC?
To do that, would I first back-up (Kies and Google sync), then key in *#272*<my phone's IMEI># and then select a region code (?Poland) and click Install? Any help would be greatly applreciated.
Use intratechs original stock Samsung firmware and Odin to flash not kies.

Thanks for your fast reply and advice. I'd read about Odin but was worried I couldn't revert properly for warranty. Can I first take an "image" (like on a PC) to restore if needed? Would the exact setup (firmware, CJ/Voda apps, carrier settings) be available for restoring (there'd be so many variations worldwide how could they all be available)?
I'll take your advice, thank you, but for the record is what I initially asked viable - to "trick" the OTA process or Kies into seeing my phone as unbranded Polish and providing an official update (and for warranty, change the CSC back, re-update)?
OK, I've downloaded Odin v1.85 and XWKJ2 (pda XWKJ2, phone XXKI4, ver 2.3.5, 21 Oct 11, XEF/France) and the related XWKJ2 Stock Kernel.
However what would be the right "restore" firmware, in case I need a warranty repair? My phone is an unlocked Crazy Johns GS2, GT-I9100T, originally:
pda DU-KF4
phone DU-KF4
csc VAU-KF4 (ver 2.3.3, 29 Jun 11)
..and Kies "properly" updated it to:
pda DU-KH1
phone DU-KF4
csc VAU-KG2 (ver 2.3.3, 11 Aug 11)
..so either official version would be OK, but can anyone suggest where I could get one? Otherwise I guess I'll have to wait for an official update
Please ignore my previous post, it was at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Cool glad you spotted it.
You don't need the stock kernel really. Once you're rooted with a cfroot kernel you're good to go.
If you want to send in for repair, flash back to original firmware, root will be gone, then grab a USB jig to reset the flash counter.
Jig will also get rid of the yellow triangle if it annoys you
Good luck.

I'm now on version 2.3.5, pda xw-kj2, phone xx-ki4, csc xef-kj1 and all looks good - except when I have a weak GPS signal (eg. inside) Google Maps shows me as being in China! Walk outside (good GPS signal) and it swings back to by actual location (Adelaide, Australia).
It wasn't doing this with the original firmware. Maybe the 2.3.5 firmware from XDA (pda XWKJ2, phone XXKI4, XEF/France) that I flashed has a Chinese GPS.conf file? If that's the issue then is there an additional file for an Odin flash to revert the GPS.conf?
I think fasterfix is what you need. App from market I think.

Hi all,
I have read about the root procedures and am going to try it. The only thing I'm unsure of if I have the correct files, so if you could let me know if these are correct then I can start with the rooting
My phone details:
Android: 2.3.5
Kernel version: [email protected]#2
Buildnumber: Gingerbread.XWKJ3
PDA: I9100XWKJ3, Phone: I9100XXKI4, CSC: I9100XENKJ1
It's a Dutch phone.
I selected this file for the root: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KJ3-v5.0-CWM5.tar
Once that is flashed with the use of Odin, I will use this file to get rid of the yellow triangle: I9100XWKJ3_I9100XENKJ1_I9100XXKI4_HOME.tar.md5
I'm not sure about the .md5 at the end of the file but I think I can select this without any problems in Odin to get rid of the yellow triangle.
Once I'm finished I will have root access and be back to my custom firmware so I'll be notified through Kies if new firmware is available.
My questions are:
1) are these the 2 correct files to root and get rid of the triangle
2) .md5 can be selected in Odin
Thanks for your time and patience with these 'amateur' questions!

Hi, guys!
I've been searching for a while now but can't find the answers I need.
Recently, I upgraded my S2 via Odin from:
PDA: I9100XWKI4
PHONE: I9100XXKI1
CSC: I9100OXFKE1
(2.3.4, Croatia)
file: I9100XWKI4_I9100OXFKE1_TRA.zip
to:
PDA: I9100BUKJ3
PHONE: I9100BUKI1
CSC: I9100VIPKI2
(2.3.5, Croatia - VIPNET)
file: I9100BUKJ3_I9100VIPKI2_VIP.zip
You might ask why did I flash the branded firmware - I did it because I was tired of waiting for updates that would come who knows when and Vipnet already had them.
Now, here's my problem description:
On the 2.3.4 firmware, after typing in this code: *#272*IMEI#, I could see lots of sales codes including the "TRA" code that works with Kies in my country. Kies also sees the firmware correctly (.../.../...) - no problems here.
On the 2.3.5 firmware I can see only one code and that's the one in the text field, there are no codes to select and change. Kies says that my current firmware version is: I9100BUKJ3/I9100VIPKI2/I9100BUKI1/I9100BUKJ3 (TRA)
and that my device does not support software upgrading via Kies.
Something happened here that got the software version confused, I believe it should be: BUKJ3/BUKI1/VIPKI2 (TRA)
So, finally my questions are:
How can I correct this software version/csc thing in order to get Kies willing to update my phone again?
Is there a croatian 2.3.5 firmware that installs correctly or csc I can flash to fix this?
Thank you!
Ivan
Edit:I just wanted to tell you that I've found the way to fix Kies after flashing the update with Odin. The answer is quite simple - just format your computer and reinstall windows. If you're not able to do that, use some tools that will clean your registry and your disk of all the junk that Kies put in it.
Kies now sees my software version as it should from the beginning
from reading what you have written it seems that you have flashed a leaked firmware..
if thats the case then kies would respond the way it is till the official update rolls out..!
its nothimg to worry about because you can always change firmwares via odin!
hit the thanks button if i helped you..

Unless the codes match firmware uploaded to Kies then it cannot update .
Once you start altering the firmware you may no longer have matching codes .
Or their is no update for those codes .So, finally my questions are:How can I correct this software version/csc thing in order to get Kies willing to update my phone again?
Flash the original firmware or the same vendors firmware .
Remove Kies and Kies registry settings reinstall and try .
Or flash stock rom via Odin from the stock rom thread or search for the CheckFUS page may help .

Kies works with the original firmware that was installed on the phone (after flashing again). I just wanted to flash the newer firmware but on the other service provider since there is no update for my provider. The phone is not locked...
Would it be safe to flash ONLY the CSC (CSC_I9100VIPKI2.tar.md5) file from Odin (after the 2.3.5 firmware from the first post)?
Would that fix the wrong software version I've been getting from Kies?

Unlikely as CSC is just a list of the local area networks settings thats not actually needed for the phone to work .

I just remembered something - I flashed the .tar.md5 file under the PDA section in Odin. Is that maybe the cause of this? Would 3 separate files for PDA, PHONE and CSC make a difference?

But their are some firmwares around that are in three parts
Flash via PDA rom Plus Modem In Phone and CSC in CSC .
They can always be flashed again /or separate .
jje
Is there some procedure for splitting the .tar or are those 3 parts something different than files in the .tar?

Hi, guys!
I just wanted to tell you that I've found the way to fix Kies after flashing the update with Odin. The answer is quite simple - just format your computer and reinstall windows. If you're not able to do that, use some tools that will clean your registry and your disk of all the junk that Kies put in it.
Kies now sees my software version as it should from the beginning
Could you please share with us, what registry files need to be cleaned. A step by step instuction " if available" would be heaven sent

Wow, just for Kies
Anyway, I think you could just : unninstal kies, download ccleaner or something like that, everything 2x, restart pc, reinstall kies.
I don't mind doing that as long as the result is good
Hi! Where I can download 2.3.5 for SGS2.

Thanks!

Search Samfirmware.com for the firmware you need.
Yes, type i9100 in the site's search box and them look for firmwares for Croatia. It's there...
