Make sure the "Physical Keyboard" Switch is turned "On" when you have the dock connected. If you open a e-mail/note or any field that supports text entry, you can click the keyboard icon on the lower right side of your screen (next to the time/wifi icons etc.) Alternatively, you can find the options via Settings -> Language & Input -> Keyboard & Input methods
Also make sure that it's set to "Asus English (US) Keyboard" (or whatever default language it is you use), but double check whether it's the Asus keyboard and not a custom one. If you have any custom keyboard apps/mods/skins/themes installed, try uninstalling those to figure out if any one of them may be causing the incompatibility.
Lastly, if all of this doesn't work, perhaps something's wrong with your dock or the connector. If reseating (disconnecting/reconnecting the dock) doesn't help, and possibly resetting the device to factory defaults or re-installing the ROM you're currently on, you might wanna get it checked out and possibly contact Asus for an RMA.

so when im using my prime without the dock, i use swiftkey. When i dock, i want it to switch to the asus/android keyboard. i can still type, but theres a few nitpicky things. Like if im typing a question on the phyiscal keyboard with swiftkey on, and i end with a question mark by hitting SHIFT ? on the keyboard, it capitalizes the first letter of the last word.
example:
Hey how's it Going?
so is there an easy way to have it switch input methods when i dock, or is there a way to just use swiftkey and not have it battle with the physical keyboard
I'm also very interested in this - have you worked out the best way to get around this yet?
There is a program in the market called keyboard manager that allows you to select which keyboard to use when the prime is docked, landscape and in portrait mode. However it needs root access.
You can press ctrl+shift on the dock keyboard, to change input method and ctrl+space to change language inside asus keyboard.
Bought my Prime yesterday. On the dock, the keys for "@" (Shift+2) and " " " (Shift+') are mixed up. That means to make the "@" character appear, I have to press Shift+' rather than Shift+2. I'm wondering if this is a hardware fault or a software one and if I should take it back to the shop. Thanks.
i have the same problem the lay out of the Keyboard is UK but the input to the Tablet is US style. i have check the Keyboard setting and it defiantly says UK keyboard so kinda stuck the same as you
Are you using the stock Asus software keyboard? Those keys can get put back to the US layout if you use other software keyboards, for some reason.

Yep. same for me. (UK)
So not hardware fault I'm guessing? I'm sure as soon as custom ROM's come out, that can be patched up (I hope). I was concerned it could be a physically swapped keys.
Same here, installed Thumb Keyboard, and dock keyboard became US (AZERTY french initially). So have to select Asus Keyboard as default to have dock correctly configured...
Hey all,
I love my Prime and i appreciate the work Asus is doing to provide the best possible end user experience. But there is one issue with the keyboard dock which keeps me bugging ever since i got the first model of the Transformer.
Most of us prefer their own onscreen keyboard choice over the "Asus Keyboard". For example i love and use the default android keyboard and thus i am required to switch to "Asus German keyboard" everytime i dock my Prime, else important keys like Y/Z or Ä/Ö/Ü will not be mapped correctly.
I suggest adding the following option to the "Asus customised settings":
- Automatically switch to last selected "Asus Keyboard" when docked and return to previously chosen input method on undock
There is an app available for rooted users which kinda does the job, and demonstrates that it is possible to automatically switch input methods: Keyboard Manager But i think the auto switch feature is essential to non-root users too.
How do you guys think about that? Should we forward this request to Asus?

I am confused. My Prime does that already.
Using Thumb Keyboard. When docked, it asks to switch to ASUS keyboard. Undocked and back on Thumb.

Using the default android keyboard undocked. As soon as i dock the tablet i just get a message saying "change to asus keyboard to keep consistency". But it does not switch automatically.
If you got an US (QWERTY) dock, you may not notice the difference because the keys are mapped the same anyways. For example in Germany Z and Y are inverted, and they will not be mapped correctly unless the Asus Keyboard is active.
I am on version .11, you?
Yes, US keyboard.
On .14
When docking, it asks to switch to ASUS keyboard. There is a check box so it won't ask again. When undocked, Thumb Keyboard is back.

If you have root, get KM Launcher - it'll let you set the docked and un-docked keyboard. I'm using swiftkey X tablet with the t'former standard for un-docked and docked respectively.

this works great, thanks for the suggestion!
I found it last week or so. It is amazing - thought I'd share the love.
Now I just need to sort out my stylus touchscreentune settings to work out if I'll but it for a fiver haha
Hello all,
I just unpacked my brandnew prime. When booting up I could use the trackpad during the initial install, but the keyboarddock did not work. When finished with the initial install, I could not use the dock keyboard (except for the trackpad) in Android. In the lower right corner there is an icon for the dock (and the prime is charging through the dock). When I select a textbox, there is an additional icon (a keyboard icon) in the lower right corner, but not a single key (not even the top row) works...
Am I missing something or is this dock broken? I have hard reset the prime several times now and undocked and docked several times and am out of options.
Does anyone know of a fix (other than return the tab for RMA/refund)?
Hi
Go to Settings - Language & Keyboard
Verify that Asus Keyboard is set as default keyboard.
Hello Pnoire,
I have checked that the asus keyboard is the default. I have also tried setting the android keyboard as default. I then get a message about the hardware keyboard not being used. I tried toggling between the android and the asus one several times, but all keys remain dead. When I loose the mouse (happens after I change the keyboard), I can get it back by closing and opening tablet + dock. The keys remain non funtional however.
Hi dannykix
I don't know what you can do, now. It could be a hardware problem!
I contacted Asus support, they indicated that it is most likely hardware related. As I just opened the package the tablet is returned to the supplier as a DOA. I hope the new one arrives a bit faster then this one.
Case closed.
When I plug the tablet to the dock I see this popup where or how do I set this?
I use thumb keyboard which I've set to my default input device (when not docked) in Settings/Language & Input. When I first got my dock and docked the Prime it said that. I went into Language & Input and set the default input to the Asus keyboard thinking that the dock would not work properly. After getting frustrated using the Asus touchscreen keyboard I changed my default back to Thumb keyboard. Ever since I did that I've never seen that message again.
