I'm moving to France from the US. When I get there, I'll probably get a new Android phone (unless Win8 looks enticing enough).
My questions are...
- When I log onto this new Android phone with my same gmail address, and presumably be connected to France or Europe's Google Play, will I have access to ALL the apps I have now? Will some become unavailable to me? What about my purchased ones? If they're to be lost, any way to get those .apks now?
- What will happen to my purchased ebooks on the nook app and the Amazon Kindle app?
- Is there any way that I can access the US Google Play while in Europe? Is there such a thing as proxy servers for mobile phones?
Thank you!
No you will not loose any of your app
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.
Also you can use market enabler app to get access to any App region. Vpn networks can also be used for ex. Vpn reactor

Would btguard work? I already pay for them.
Also, just so you guys know, I've now moved here and via my Android account on my new European phone I lost a bunch of apps that were I guess only exposed to the US including the b&n nook app. But I got the .apk off my old phone.

Did you pay for torrent proxy or for VPN? If you payed for VPN then it should work.

Amazon Cloud Player tip
Other than the music stopping when the screen turns off....amazons cloud player is perfectly compatible.
Load the web player website in landscape mode. After it loads...put it in portrait mode and you should be able to scroll through your lists.
this clearly has to do with the cloud player detecting the screen resolution...but without an app or SD card...I have to rely on the cloud player for music....would suck if it didnt work

wipe your tablet and tell it you live in USA during setup and the whole market will be available. Search the forum, this was already covered.
During that setup i did tell it English, USA but the it recognized I was from Puerto Rico and didn't give me much of an option.

Here's what I think might work,
Connect a laptop to ethernet on your home internet connection then use VPN to connect to a vpn server in the lower (upper?) 48. Then set up your laptop to share internet over wifi (hotspot). Connect your touchpad to it then start over with registration etc.
How does a cool, refreshing, and free 6-Pack sound?
If you have an HP TouchPad, get ready to spend some quality time in the HP App Catalog. We’ve selected six apps that normally sell for as much as $14.99 and we’re making them available at no cost to HP webOS customers for a limited time. (See free offer details below.)

I've tried to fix it by creating another account, but then when I tried to access the App Catalog an error message was displayed. It seems that it does some kind of validation with the IP address.
Try the VPN approach, it's gonna work. Or maybe you can try with Impostah, which you can download it from Preware.

I was just coming to post this. Thanks. I have tried glimpse and it's pretty useful. Just sucks that I paid for it two days ago. Should have been patient. On the bright side, maybe it'll motivate the developer to maintain support for the app.
Glimpse and Sparkle already "ran out" last night. Was able to get the camera though.

i think i may be a little dense... how do i go about getting these apps? for example, big boss isn't on the hp app store...
Any luck with the Apps? I'm from PR but I have yet to open my TouchPad since a friend bought it for me. Its weird because I had full access to the Apps when I had my Palm Pre. I wonder if the information sticks from my old Pre to the new TouchPad if not I'm planing on registering it using my Sprint phone as a hotspot to be on the safeside.

Static libraries could be imported without changes most likely, but Java is not officially supported in webos (it uses javascript based on nodejs I believe), so you would have to do a complete program/ui rewrite other than perhaps any c/c++ compiled libraries included (but the different libc version may require those to be recompiled).
Hello,
I am currently floating around in the Atlantic with an incurable case of boredom. My ship does not have wifi or any hope of coming close to a domestic cell tower anytime soon. I would love to be able to download apps from the market or another source so I can transfer to my personal laptop and then to my T-mobile G2x to stave off this dreadful condition. Any help would be MOST appreciated!!!

Or just look for apks on google, they are out there.
Also what kind of internet does your laptop have, satellite?
I am on a US Navy ship and we get our connection over satellite.
www.freewarelovers.com/android
All freeware and has a lot of apks just download transfer and install.
Sorry i dont get it, am i missing something.
If you have internet access you can download anything from the Android market and it installs directly to your phone. ie/ google the android market, login with your gmail account and it will detect what phones you have with a gmail email logged in.
Then simply browse, find the app you want and click install, select your phone and then it will automatically install on your phone (as long as it has some kind of internet access).
So unlike other websites, there is no need to copy, paste, or transfer anything.
Sorry if i missed the point, i assumed thats what you were asking???
He does not have internet access on his phone (i assue the satellite connection is strictly wired on the ship). So answers above above are the answer. Google will ultimately be the best place but alternate markets should also be checked out. Cant think of te name right now but if anyone knows the market that yongzh moved his emulators too, i believe they offer direct to pc ownload for ree and paid. Im not sure though so dont blame me f im wrong

The phone itself needs to be connected to a data network for that to work.

To make a long story brief, does anyone know of a hack that would fool a region protected app?
I downloaded the APK for the BBC I Player from mediafire and I opened it via Astro whilst connected to my UK proxy and also used a location spoofer app. When I tried to play content a message pops up saying it's only available in the UK. I then tried using my VPN account and got the same result.
Does anyone know of any way to make that app think i'm in the UK or is it impossible?
I did search XDA and as far as I can see is still an unresolved issue.
try market enabler from the market.

That won't have any effect. He already has the app but it's restricted to working only for those within the UK.
OP, try tvcatchup using your Flash enable browser.

Firstly, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
Although it was a great idea (and one I hadn't thought of) it didn't work because it gave a message saying my i.p. was not compatible with the service. I suspect that's because I'm probably number 10,000 to sign up and use that i.p. and it was therefore blocked long ago. It did play the ads so in theory you're right, it would definitely have worked, so for anyone else reading this who has access to a 'clean' proxy, try it.
It wasn't a massive issue for me because I can get I Player via my browser using the proxy but it is a bit of a pain navigating it, as opposed to the clean interface of the player itself but it's better than nothing.
Also to anyone else reading this, I do get ITV Player and 4 On Demand via my proxy and I can get all the sport on 5Live, Sports Extra and Talksport, so it's only the stand alone players themselves that can't be broken.
Thanks again for the help and whilst i'm here, do you know of any other UK tv catchup services besides the one you gave me?
* UPDATE *
whatsontv.co.uk works like a charm through the proxy, the only downside being there's no live feeds but it is worth having.
Also, Blinkbox works with a proxy. Plenty of good free series but no live feeds.
123webtvdotcom is also a good service that works with a proxy and it simply gives you a grid of live tv programs that it then forwards you too.
All in all, three good finds thanks to the posters suggestion, so thanks.
Hi everyone, as you all may know its Christmas! Merry Christmas! Anyways, i want to buy a kindle or nook tablet for my aunt as a present but the thing is that she lives in South America. Would the nook tablet work there? I ask because maybe the market doesnt work because of the IPs, since Netflix doesnt work in south america due to different IPs.
Thanks in advance, and please be safe today!
The Kindle Fire (similar to Nook Tab) forum has more info on use outside of US. Check below threads:

For Netflix/Hulu/etc in particular, you need a proxy service. One mentioned is http://unblock-us.com. You may find others with http://google.com/search?q=netflix+outside+us.

I am living in Germany and am using a rooted Nook Tablet. Unlike the Kindle Fire, the NT will allow you access to the B&N marketplace from outside the U.S. If you root, you get full access to the android marketplace without any issues. Unfortunately, if you're getting this to run Hulu or Netflix don't. It won't work unless you use a proxy service or VPN which until now the NT just does not yet do. The same thing applies if you sideload the amazon app store, it doesn't work.
I'm hoping for vpn setup like normal android can do, but as of right now, its a no go.

With regard to accessing the BN marketplace, how do you work around the need for a US-based credit card?
I'm asking because the gf got one, but has been unable to purchase anything (although she can access and view the store). I rooted her NT and put Android Market on it, but it would be good if she could buy the ebooks from BN too.
Living in Luxembourg I had the same problems as you or your girlfrind with my nook color. To add my credit card, i first had to use a valid US billing adress, second: buy and use an electronic gift card from bn.com via paypal. After having used the full amount i was asked to add my creditcard (same as paypal), and don't ask me how, my bn.com account now allows me to use my luxemburgish creditcard. All purchases however have to be made via vpn (to get a us-ip), and as the devices Nook, Nook Color and Nook tablet don't let you use vpn (even if rooted), you either have to do your purchases via vpn on a computer, smartphone or vpn enables tablet. Simply start your vpn connection, check your ip (has to be identified as US) an do the purchases via the bn.com website). I recommand using vpn express(available through itunes app store and very inexpensive if you want to do your first tries with vpn connections)
However if you want to use your Nook as if you where located in the US, it gets rather complicated and to some degree "expensive". As the nook(s) don't let you configure vpn connections, you will need a wireless access point, so you can surf through a vpn tunneld wlan.
To do so I connected a second router to the second lanconnector on my win7 pc and connect to the internet via adapter 1, started the vpn service and shared the vpn connection with the second lanadapter linked to my access point.
This works perfectly well for me and as I upraded to purevpn (much faster than the initial vpnexpress connection), I now can watch netflix, hulu and do my app, magazine and bookpurchases from any of my nook devices. (as long as I have the PC running and vpn connection enabled.
If anyone needs a more detailed explanation of how it was done, don't be afraid to ask me.
Mine works very well, I did buy it Hawaii and now I came back to Mexico, I register my credit card (mexican) and can buy content from B&N store app, in Mexico I use a WRT Router with my VPN network configured wich has a San Francisco's IP, haven't tried with no VPN but I guess it should still work.

Hi
I am using the Lumia 920 in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). There are numerous apps i wanna buy, but I cannot access them coz the market says its not available for your market. Is there a way around it? I really need to buy some apps I wanna use !
Nobody can help me out here? Isnt there any way I can access and install the necessary apps?

I'm not sure if this is still true (worked for WP7), but if you create a Microsoft Account and have your location as one of the other markets (say US or UK) and login to your phone using this account, you should be able to see all the apps.
Of course, it would be a pain if you're already setup since you'll have to start over with this account as your main account.
Might be worth a try.
That wont work coz I need to give a mobile number to send SMS and to activate the market

I live in Germany but I could set up an US Microsoft Account for my Lumia 920 no problem.
I didn't have to provide any mobile number and for the free apps I didn't even had to provide an US address.
But maybe it worked so hassle free for me because I set up my US account on my computer first (which is routed through an US based VPN connection) and then just logged in on the phone (which [for now] still has a German IP address since WP8 unfortunately doesn't support VPN yet) using that account I did set up before.
I even managed to add my German Visa card to my US Microsoft account so that I can now even buy payed apps in the US store no problem - that was a little bit more tricky though. If you're interested in how this can be done let me know but it might be a little risky since it involves entering an "incorrect" postal address and I can't take any responsibility of course.
Today I figured out that I can even download apps from the German store with my US account by just chancing the "Country/Region" in "language+regions" settings to Germany. I downloaded several apps this morning and they sill work after changing the country back to "United States". Haven't tried if I could buy payed apps from the German store so far though.

What is your location? Never heard of having to sending an SMS to activate store.
I am in the UAE. I believe it is coz I activated the acc on the phone. I will try to create another ms account and set the country to the US.
But before that I need to get access to a US VPN. My current VPN is UK based
Then I realised that I cannot do this yet, till Whatsapp is officially avaialble back on the market. I was one of the few lucky that downloaded on 920 and still use it daily! If I reset the phone now, I will loose whatsapp and will not be able to install it again !
Unless there are other ways...... to remove the current MS Account and activate the phone with another MS account.
