Hello all
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to hide the fact my EVO is rooted from the bright house tv app?
All the I devices in my house can use it but when I open it on my phone it won't work and says the reason is because it's rooted.
Is there anyway to hide the fact I'm rooted from this one app without actually unrooting?

Have you tried supersu, it has a hide feature that should work. Also for reference might want to post in q&a next time. Good luck with the app
well if its like the time warner app all i gotta do is disable supersu and i can stream tv.
I'm running meanrom and have supersu, but don't see an option to hide. The app itself doesn't request root it just checks if you're rooted.
I haven't tried disabling supersu, how do you do it?
Thanks for the first help.
its on the settings tab, uncheck enable superuser. thats all i have to do to get the time warner app to stream.

Thanks, that's what I meant, lol.
I just finished doing that And cleared App data for the bright house tv app and supersu and it still says I can't do it on a rooted device.
Why so much hate towards root, I mean I have to log in and can only use it at my own house where I pay for my services so I don't see what the problem is.
Is that check something that can be pulled out of the apk itself?

It could be taken out, u just need to find someone who has it that wants it out to do it for u.
Also, try disabling su, clear brighthouse data/cache, then reset phone. Still not working?
Well, I disabled supersu.
Cleared bright house tv app data in settings.
Booted into recovery and cleared cache and dalvik.
Still no go as far as hiding to it the fact I'm rooted. It still knows I'm rooted and won't play.
I'm not about to unrooting for this one app either. Just wished it would work. Damn u bright house
I just flashed meanrom and same for me with the twc app. Won't play cause I'm rooted. App works fine for me on bad seeds tranquility Rom.

Hey everybody, I think that this question is going to pop up more often since yesterday (April 17) Time Warner Cable released updated version of their app that now allows you to stream live tv on your ICS device.
The problem is that they implemented a mechanism that checks if your tablet/phone was rooted, if it was they show you message that the app is not supported on rooted devices.
Is there a way to work around this? I would not mind unrooting my TP to test this app. How can this be achieved?
Thanks for any tips!

Same problem with Sky which I would like to use.
Try to set the root permissions to adb only in the settings. Its probably on adb and apps. Let me kw if it works cuz I might get the app then.

Try the app permissions denied in the market and see if you can disable the root check.

There is a patched TWC app that doesn't check for root. I found it in the Galaxy Nexus forums and have the apk for phone. Let me find the post and I'll put it up for everyone.

I changed the name of superuser.apk. Turned debugging off.
App starts fine. Can look through the guide and everything but black screen when I try to watch Live TV. No matter which channel I change to. I haven't seen this issue in any other thread yet. I just installed cm9 for first time, so its fresh.
edit: of course I found the answer a minute later after this post, after i searched for an hour. of course. i had to change test-keys to something else

1) Use Root Explorer or a similar file explorer app to rename Superuser.apk to Su.apk
2) Open build.prop (/system/build.prop) with Root Explorer or a similar file explorer app and rename test-keys to dEris-badass (lol)
3) I left USB Debugging enabled (some need to disable this)
4) Log in and watch some TV =]

At least you got it to install, I get the message telling me that it's incompatible with my device. However, the TWC TV app (which it is likely rebranded from) installs fine. Just doesn't do much good when I have Brighthouse.
Brightouse is claiming "A rooted device does not allow us to set the permissions the LiveTv app needs to function properly".
Is this not such a bunch of crap. If their coders were worth a gain of salt they should have no problem changing or modding any permissions their app requires.
I'm guessing they are scared that rooted devices are able to record anything on the desktop. Sadly there are apps to help non-rooted devices to record the desktop too. So what would be the point of even searching for the xbin folder, which again I'm guessing that they are doing.. If this in fact what they are doing, could we add an app to rename that folder when the BH app is launched and rename it back when it closes?

Sounds like a bunch of bull****. A bit pissed that it aint working because of the stupid rooted crap. Someone has to find a way to modify the installation of this app but who will????
Thanks guys for the responds. Like everyone is saying it is a bunch of BULL****, but hopefully someone will come up for a solution to break this. By the way I started thinking why does it matter if our phones are rooted to B.H.. We pay them for service to our TV/Internet not our phones. It is not of their business what we do with our phones and if we made a decision to root, they should not block this app. to us. We pay the same amount that the person that did not root and they get to use this App.
I tried a little but the program won't get far enough along to help because usb debugging was enabled. I was using eclipse to monitor the log file while I launched the app.
There's a somewhat interesting (too much iFruit for me) discussion here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27195196-iPhone-Android-tablet-users-get-Bright-House-TV-App-Joy- on the subject. Looks like the reason behind the ICS only is because of DRM. Is it possible, the same reasoning was applied to devices being rooted or not?
the TWC app got a fix for rooted users, any chance there will be a rooted-compatible apk for the brighthouse app?
Wahoo!!

Hi all
Create a cwm back up of your phone before trying this.
Found a app that actually hides root so that you can use google movie rentals/ skygo restrictions and any app that checks that you are rooted.
It temporary unroots the phone and can restore su after you finish film etc...
Make sure to Backup Root in the app.
This hasn't been tested yet on my wildfire as wife at work with it but will test soon as she home.
It does say works on some phones. If you want to test it before I do search google play for ''OTA RootKeeper'' Its the first app that actually does what it says for me well on my sg2.
Note if something goes wrong Su you can restore in app, failing that reflash a backup rom

i tried this when skygo 1st came to android and it doesnt work.i found an alternative (hideroot) but it disabled my root altogether and the enable root option never gave me my root back, even the dev of the app was baffled and eventually stopped replying to my needs to regain root.it did however allow me to have a nandroid for my skygo needs.
something i never tested but its been mentioned over in the skygo thread is the supersu app which allows you to hide root also i believe but i never got round to testing it.
Thanks will try it
Can you keep us posted with the results about SuperSU?

If anyone figures out how to root this PITA let me know please. My family is technologically challenged and I help them with their tech problems. This meep is something only an overprotective mother can see any good qualities in. You can't even look at it without it being logged and sent to the parent control panel, which has been bugged out and half working every time I try to use it. Anyway, I guess my point is that I want to root it and make a proper tablet out of it. Until then, I suppose I will try to convince my family to return the damn thing and get my little sister a Nexus 7 instead.
I found it out by accident. Just install super su and some app which relies on root, I installed titanium backup and it works.
I also installed nova launcher and its also working. For app market, you can try and install root explorer and change permissions.
This could work, but since this tablet is for my little daughter, I am not interested in using market on meep.

I might have to go through with the process later, it would seem that there is yet another problem (big freakin surprise there). I did a factory reset and i may have to log into my sister's google play account again, the only problem is the only way i know of to open google play is to use the parent control thing to do it, and that is not working. I'd call support and ask about it, but honestly i've read all over the internet that they will just put you on hold and hang up on you.

I've tried several apps that hide root, and none work. Does anyone have any idea of the right way to get HBO Now working on a rooted device? My device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 running a custom rom.
The apps I've tried:
Hide My root (Can't even run on my device, fails to hide su, seems to work best on HTC devices?)
Hide Rooting Lite (acts like it works but doesn't)
RootCloak Plus (Cydia) I've added the app, rebooted and it still doesn't work.
Anyone gotten this working on a samsung device of any kind?
I was going to focus on hardware specific forum but really this is a more generic issue at least on the surface, how to hide root from an app.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I just tried Hide My Root and it didn't work.
I'm running a T-mobile HTC One M7 with ARHD 91.1 and also tried RootCloak.

I've got HBO Now working on my rooted Note 3 (AT&T).
First, I installed HBO Now and tried to watch a movie, which failed with the "rooted device" message. That lead me here, which got me worried.
Second, I installed Root Cloak via Xposed, went into Settings - General - Application Manager and cleared the data to HBO Now, rebooted. Tried to watch another movie which failed.
Finally, I installed Hide My Root and chose "Hide su binary", stopped HBO Now and cleared the data again. To test, I tried to navigate to / via Root Explorer which told me I wasn't rooted. I loaded HBO Now back up and was able to start watching a movie right away.
I'm guessing there are different root methods that can or cannot be hidden. If this didn't work I had planned to use a dual boot to install a non-rooted stock ROM, since my kernel itself is rooted (i.e. I didn't root via app).
I pretty much did the same thing. Had the HBO app stopped and data cleared. Hide the su binary and then logged back into HBO app. For a moment I thought it was working as the video played longer than before. But after about a minute it came back with the rooted error.

As mentioned above, this worked for me... Installed Hide My Root and granted it root permissions, hid su binary via Hide My Root, cleared data for HBO Now, and that was it. HBO Now worked fine (other apps needing root would not work while su was hidden of course). After testing I used Hide My Root to restore su binary, and things were back to normal, although I did have to re-grant root access to applications which previously had it (not a bit deal IMO). I'll need to do more testing during this trial period, but maybe I'll keep HBO Now after all.
Oh, and I should have mentioned I don't have Xposed installed yet, so I didn't do that step at all, just used Hide My Root. It worked on my Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
Tried Hide Rooting Lite and still no luck.

Thanks this works perfectly for me also on GPE!
None of the hide root apps mentioned earlier have worked for me on my rooted Nexus 10. The apps themselves are working, as attempts to modify system apps in Root Explorer don't work because of a lack of root privileges, but when I play videos in the HBO app they fail. Not sure what else to do here.
Well, it didn't work on my Verizon HTC One (m7), using a GPE ROM from Santod. Are you using a custom GPE rom, or the stock one which came with the phone, just rooted?

For anybody wanting to use it with Chromecast, and controlled by your rooted phone, you can.
Make sure to click on the Chromecast icon BEFORE trying to start the stream. Once you see the HBO Now icon on your TV screen, you can start the video on your smartphone/tablet and it won't complain about your phone being rooted.
